General Information

This lovingly restored, Gilded Age Victorian is a Norfolk tradition, owned and hosted by Dean and Jean Marie Johnson. Nestled in the scenic Litchfield Hills of Northwest Connecticut, Mountain View Inn is the closest Inn to Yale's Summer Chamber Music Festival and Infinity Music Hall. A short 5 minute walk to either.

During your stay, we invite you to enjoy period appointments, an Art Gallery featuring original paintings and Giclee prints, along with The Gilded Peacock, a Whimsical Vintage Boutique. Our Oak paneled Great Room accommodates private parties and special interest events for the culturally minded. Our brand new Victorian Courtyard is the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding and our Uniquely decorated guestrooms with private baths offer spacious, comfortable accommodations filled with period antiques.

Mountain View is located 1/4 mile south of the quintessentially New England village Town Green (voted "prettiest green in Connecticut")and Norfolk's Town Center featuring Infinity Music Hall & Bistro, Mizza's Pizza, The Artisan's Guild and other speciality shops offering unique treasures. With over 80% of its land preserved, Norfolk is home to 3 State Parks. There are hiking trails in the parks as well as in Land Trust areas. * Norfolk is the home of Yale University's Summer School of Music and Art.

    Formerly a carriage house, the Mountain View Guest House is an attractively furnished home located in a secluded area 50 yards from the Main House. Off of the master bedroom there is a deck which overlooks an open natural field. Other features include: Living Room with vaulted ceiling, TV, private phone line and working fireplace; 2nd guest bedroom; bath with jacuzzi jetted tub; full kitchen (guests still get a full breakfast at the Main House). The Guest House is the perfect retreat for those seeking the tranquiltiy and outstanding natural beauty of Norfolk. Reserve now for the fall foliage season!

    Dean is a fine artist and old house restorer. The indepth restoration of Mountain View has taken precedence these first and second years, but he looks forward to resuming his painting and exhibiting his work at Mountain View. Jean Marie is an avid collector of vintage clothing. In 2004, she opened The Gilded Peacock, a Vintage Boutique located on the main floor of the Inn. The Boutique specializes in Wearable & Whimsical treasures circa 1920's - 1960's.
