Maine's first certified "Environmental Leader" green lodging establishment (2004) and "One of 30 Great U.S. Inns" (Travel+Leisure, 2002) both aptly describe our unique combination of pampered service for relaxing getaways or business travel combined with our barnyard menagerie of llamas, pony, goats, sheep, cow, and many chickens. Featuring the largest solar electric array in Maine plus solar hot water and a wind turbine, this fully restored 1906 gambrel Victorian farmhouse (major renovations completed in 2001) is far back from the public road on many acres of unspoiled rural beauty, yet just minutes to Hallowell's National Historic District with unique shopping, great dining, and antiquing alongside the banks of the Kennebec River. You'll be greeted at the front desk made from a slab of historic Hallowell granite which once served as the front step to the farmhouse. Central to Maine's coast, lakes, and mountains (all within an easy hour's drive). Adjacent 600+ acre wildlife preserve provides a pristine pond for canoeing and trails for hiking or cross-country skiing. Our own free-range fresh eggs are featured in the full custom, cooked-to-order breakfast. Spacious antique furnished rooms have private baths, A/C, phones, TV, DVD/VCR, and individual temperature control. Four rooms have HUGE double whirlpool tubs, three have private decks, and five have gas fireplaces for the ultimate romantic getaway. The adjacent Carriage House, connected by the Porte Cochere, is ideal for meetings and intimate weddings, and the Gathering Place event center attached to the rear of the Inn is available for larger business and social events.

    Signature Dish

    Custom Cooked Breakfast
You can order whatever you'd like off the breakfast menu, including free-range eggs from the farm any way you like them, including coddled or even Eggs Benedict Arnold (Arnold launched his "bateaux" from Pittston, just across the Kennebec River from Hallowell, on his historic and ill-fated trip to Canada). You can have pancakes with wild Maine blueberries and real Maine maple syrup from the great north woods, or french toast, oatmeal, cold cereals, fresh fruit, juice, and muffins cooked fresh each morning. Whatever your pleasure, we'll create breakfast just the way you want it.

The handicapped accessible room and friendly, accommodating hosts made it possible for my 88-year-old mother to enjoy what may be her last ever road trip. Inn was charming, clean, and comfortably furnished. Breakfasts were made to order high end restaurant quality. A real treat at any age!

I stayed here while attending a 2-day conference at the facility. The inn is very comfortable and I was made to feel very at home - invited to help myself to snacks from the fridge, cookies. The room itself was very comfortable. I had intentionally booked one of the less expensive rooms so it was smallish but plenty big enough. Great light and cozy fireplace. My co-workers had huge rooms and incredible bathtubs. The grounds are lovely, though we choose not to explore too much do to hunting season being in full force. Definitely recommend!
