Audubon Park House Bed & Breakfast

– New Orleans, LA

National Geographic has recommended that tourists explore the neighborhoods of New Orleans. Most tourists do not have an opportunity because so few are available to tourists. Audubon Park House is in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans where Victorian homes are cherished. This B&B offers the tourist a very unique place to stay in a very unique part of the city. Just recently National Geographic filmed the lagoon located minutes away which is a sanctuary filled with the sounds of wild birds, wild ducks, ibises, egrets, and herons. A streetcar runs at the head of the park which enables tourists to visit the historical French Quarter. At the foot of the park is the Audubon Zoo and at it's back runs the mighty Mississippi River. A swamp exhibit in the zoo captures the true nature of New Orleans before it was established as an urban center. One can experience the history of the city through the eyes of owner Barbara Lefevre Martin, who was born down River on land which was once part of a plantation where the British battled for the control of Louisiana in 1812. She will be happy to share her history with her guests.

The Laurel Bed and Breakfast

– New Orleans, LA

The Laurel is located in the heart of Mid-City. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Endymion Mardi Gras Parade are both a 10-minute walk away. The French Quarter and Central Business District are just a 10-minute drive away. There is a bus stop and the new street car (trolly) line within walking distance (5 minutes) which runs to both of these destinations. It is in a residential neighborhood and is only a 5-minute walk to City Park and The New Orleans Museum of Art. The home is a beautiful 2-story stucco structure with a red Spanish tile roof. It is architecturally unique and interesting with its arched doorways and doors. The original structure is intact with very few changes to the original design. There are original wood floors and ceramic tiles which have been beautifully restored. The long center hallway serves as the perfect photo gallery for Eliot's photos. The raised front porch and the front courtyard-style patio is wonderful and a great place to just sit and do nothing. The corner lot offers a beautiful view of the peaceful surroundings of the neighborhood. Guests can enjoy City Park's Museum of Art, botanical gardens and new walking park. Laura and Eliot Kamenitz have owned and resided in their home since May 1995. They are the fifth and current owners of this 1924 raised cottage-style house. They both have professional careers; Laura is an Engineer and Eliot is a staff photographer for the local newspaper, The Times-Picayune. Ranger is the resident cat whose main job is to do nothing when he's not sleeping. Come join us and enjoy the experience of being "At Home in New Orleans" with Laura and Eliot.

"Great location, great people"

"We just recently stayed at the Balcony Guesthouse for 4 nights on our first trip to NOLA and will most definitely be staying here again in the future. The proprietor and staff were so friendly and really went out of their way to make us feel at home. This is a great place located in a great neighborhood...a nice short walk to the French Quarter down really picturesque streets with friendly people...the cafe downstairs is always full of locals coming and going, you really get a great sense of what New Orleans life is like (and with free coffee and soft drinks included all day long, not to mention the excellent breakfast each morning, you'll spend plenty of time there). Other reviewers have mentioned feeling unsafe walking at night but we personally never felt uncomfortable...in all honesty, something is more likely to happen down in the more touristy areas of the French Quarter than in this quiet residential neighborhood of local families and recently-arrived YURPS (young urban rebuilding professionals). All in all, a wonderful place for the traveler who enjoys living like a local - highly recommended!"
