This is a' Partial view of the parlour. This is where the wine qnd cheese are served to guests in the afternoon between 5:00-5:30. In the winter the wood burning fireplace adds a unique ambience to tne many conversations. Many guests snuggle on the sofa and read or listen to the classical music which is heard throughout the inn. There is a piano in which a guest might engage another guest in "one moment in time", by playing a favorite tune.this is the beautiful Gen.Lee bedchamber with this lovely plantation bed typical for its time. This room has two large wing chairs where you can read, watch tv., or engage in a lively conversation about the revolution. You can look down on the street where Gen. Corwallis assembled his troops to board ships at the ferry landing to sail to Yorktown where he was defeated by the 19 year old the Marquis De Lafayette (Hail to the French). He visited Portsmouth twice in his lifetime.
This is the Agnew bedchamber which overlooks the garden below. The linens are English toile which reflects the time period of the inn. The Agnew is named after the infamous tory who was an Episcopalian Priest when asked if his almighty meant the Christian God or King Geroge III. He originally owned the plot of land and basement where the 1784 house now stands. This is a cozy, warm bedchamber.This is the lovely entry to this 1784 inn.
