The Martin Hill Inn consists of two period buildings, the Main House, above, constructed circa 1815, and the Guest House, constructed circa 1850. The picket fence and brickwalkways seen here barely hint at the lovely gardens hiding behind and connecting the two buildings.
The Inn pays tribute to the rich ship building history of Portsmouth and the Piscataqua River by naming each room after one of the sleek clipper ships built here. From the well known "Ranger" which was commanded by John Paul Jones to the lesser known but eloquently named "Dashing Wave," each ship was built along the Piscataqua River by one of the several shipyards that flourished on its banks.
