The name Old Village Post House is a reference to the post houses of 18th century America, when innkeepers provided food, drink and lodging for postal riders and coaches traveling through sparsely populated areas. The inns became popular gathering spots for locals who enjoyed mingling with the travelers for news, entertainment and fellowship. Today's Old Village Post House provides the same welcoming services for guests from near and far. The inn is sequestered in the Old Village Historic Register District, one block from the Charleston harbor and within easy walking distance of Shem Creek, the home of Mt. Pleasant's shrimping fleet.
