The year was 1777... Jacob Gorgas, a member of the Ephrata Cloister was a clockmaker, but because he was married, he was not permitted to live within the Cloister itself. So over the years, he perfected his craft in a small, shadowy shop adjoining the home he built for his family: the home that has become The 1777 House at Doneckers. While Doneckers has added a few luxuries - Jacuzzi baths, queen-size beds and fireplaces in many rooms - The 1777 House has been restored and maintained with special care to preserve its historical integrity, retaining original stone masonry, tile flooring, and other authentic features.
