Scarsdale Cottage Inn

  • Inn Details

The Scarsdale cottage inn is a beautiful restored Victorian home from the 1900's located in West Newton, PA. Each room is lavishly decorated with antique and reproduction furniture in a style that is true to the era of the home. Highlights of the home include a hand carved staircase, original stained glass and a working Victrola talking machine. The home is situated on a large lot with an above ground swimming pool and spacious barn that is great for storing bike, skis, canoes or other large valuables used to enjoy the near-by Yough River Trail (part of the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail) and the Youghiogheny River. The centralized location allows for easy access to Frank-Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa, Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Hidden Valley Resort, Ohiopyle State Park, the Laurel Caverns, the Laurel Highlands, and dozens of golf courses (too many to name) while still being close enough to Pittsburgh for business. Bikes and canoes can be renter in the town shops located with-in walking distance. While you are there, you can check out the local antique and collectibles shops!

While the rooms and breakfast were quite nice, there was not a feeling of being welcome, from initial contact all the way to check out. Most disappointing was the lack of warmth and "extra touches" listed by other reviewers, like chocolates at bedside (there was a dish of worn Jolly Ranchers) and homemade desserts. I felt like we were a necessary burden to the innkeeper, rather than an appreciated guest. After checking out, we said "thank you," as this was not said to us. All guests we spoke to were self-check-ins, as the phone was the only way to "meet" the innkeeper prior to breakfast. If you like to be left to yourself except for breakfast (which was delicious and very ample), this is a good place for you.

We stayed here with two friends stayed here over the summer and it is really a beautiful bed and breakfast close to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. The food was fantastic and the innkeepers were wonderful. If you get a chance, you should really stay here and relax, sit on the porch swing and enjoy. - Lorie & Robb Hamel
