Lippincott House

Marybeth is a delightful person and a wonderful hostess. We have had two stays at the Lippincott House and we plan to stay there as often as possible. If you have an appreciation for history and outstanding archetectual elements you will not be disappointed. If you want modern conveniences, I would suggest you stay elsewhere.

Marybeth made our wedding there a dream. She helped plan everything from room setting to connecting us bsmith for the catering, to arranging the flowers herself to finding someone to make my bouquet. The BB itself is absolutely gorgeous!! The only downside is parking is not easy to find. We had less than 20ppl for our wedding but we felt like stars that night. Our dog was even permitted to stay and be in our ceremony (a huge deal for me!) but got into a who is the cutest competition with their dog Jack, who is absolutely supper friendly and a cute little thing. The inside is a dream and exceeded our expectations. You are draped in some of the most beautiful wood I've ever seen and the bed is super comfortable. Highly recommend!!!

New Years Day thru 1/2. Enjoyed the Mummers parade and the local bar/restaurants then returned thru beautiful Rittenhouse Square with our friends to the old world charm of the Lippincott House. We relaxed in a hugh sitting room overlooking Locust St. Just a pleasure knowing we didnt have to drive home after a day of celebration. Every floor, every room presents excitement in its uniqueness and beauty and history. The host couple, MaryBeth & Jack are friendly and accommodating.

Visiting our daughter at UPENN made this location very convenient. Jack and MaryBeth are delightful. Recommended highly

Our stay at the Lippincott Inn, a lovely B&B in the heart of Rittenhouse Square, was really fabulous. The owners, Jack and Mary Beth, were amazingly accommodating of my wife, our 6-month old, and me, even going so far as to put us up for our fourth and final night in their library (free of charge) because all the other rooms were booked. The Inn itself is classic turn-of-the-century Philly, with arts-and-crafts wood built-ins throughout and a fresco painting in the main dining room. Our room was large, stately, and really lovely, and served our needs perfectly (they even brought in a Pack-and-Play crib for our baby). We didn't have a car with us, and there is no on-site parking which may be an issue for some. But I don't think there's a better value in fine B&Bs in the city.

My husband and I stayed at the Lippincott House for a week during the Christmas Holidays, 2009. It was fantastic. The building and rooms are beautiful, the location is perfect, and the proprietors, Mary Beth and Jack were the perfect hostess and host. We are from Philly so it was great to come back to a beautiful room after days and nights with family, without imposing on anyone. Highly recommend this B&B.

I always stay in B & B and have done so all over the US for the past 20 years. I learned about Lippincott House over the web and loved the look. While I read reviews, I generally do not use them as sole criteria to book. So as is the case with many B & B's I have booked Lippincott was a crap shoot. Thankfully, it was the best gamble I made over 20 years. Jack is a warm and caring transplant from England. He knows the area and the people because he has lived there for years. It is Jack's home but he makes you feel at home. Mary Beth is sweet, funny and a great cook. She has great warmth and energy. And JR is the quietest Jack Russell Terrier I have ever met. Good dog. But the place and the surrounding neighborhood is magnificent. I seriously took over 400 pictures during my stay there. It is like stepping back into the 19th century Philadelphia. The rich woods, the craftsmanship, stained glass, brass light fixtures and carved mantles are nothing short of amazing. It is right off Rittenhouse Square Park and in walking distance of a slew of great restaurants and the La Colombe Coffee House. Walking the street is a trip back in time. It was one of the best experiences I have had in my 20 year B & B travels. I am going to try and get back there for a stay over the holidays. It should look even more amazing. I chose the Lippincott House as part of the weekend on which I was proposing to my fiancee. Well, I am now engaged, soon to be married, and I certainly have Jack, Mary Beth and the Lippincott House to thank for helping make this a wonderful weekend. We'll be back again and again!

My daughter and I were in town on business and stayed a few extra days for pleasure. We happily left the loud and over sized Marriott Downtown for some peace and tranquillity. We found just that at the Lippincott House! The night before our arrival there, we stopped in to ask Jack where to eat in the area. He pointed us to the Snack Bar. Very cool place! Loved it. The day of our arrival we were greated by JR, the sweetest dog! It was a welcome site, since we were missing ours. Our room was also upgraded before we arrived, due to availability, a welcome surprise! We stayed in the Adams Room. Absolutely beautiful! The entire house is amazing. Mary Beth was very accomodating, easy to talk to and makes the best breakfasts! They taste just as delicious as they look. My only regret was that we didn't get to stay longer, but we'll be back just to stay there. Its such an easy walk to most areas of interest and the service is the best! A.V Altamonte Springs, Fl

My husband and I stayed here for the 4th of July weekend whilst visiting family in the area. The inkeepers Mary Beth and Jack are fantastically sweet and wonderful, and their pleasure at having people stay in their house is very apparent. The house itself is a masterpiece, and the guest rooms are made up beautifully with very personal touches. The game and media rooms are perfect for a rainy night in, whilst the lounge with the grand piano is a perfect place to relax and visit with friends. The breakfasts were better than a restaurant; delicious and very formidable and give you enough energy to go all day in Philly. The location of this B&B is ideal for anyone who wants to walk around the historic areas and visit museums, as most locations are only a few blocks away. The innkeepers also very generously provided us with bottled water for our trips around Philly, and at the end of our stay even took us back to the airport! We were sorry to have such a short stay at the Lippincott, and the next visit to Philadelphia we will definitely stay here again.

Both Jack and Mary Beth were wonderful hosts/inn keepers. They were warm, gracious, friendly and fun. We have travelled the globe, but this was our first ever stay at a B&B (we got brave). We will now explore this way of travelling, as we continue our travels. Beside all the normal attention given to us (and a house beyond compare), of particular importance to us was the extra effort Jack went to in helping us secure a table for 14 at a local Mexican Restaurant (Tequilas). Not only was Jack's help in getting a reservation (for 14!) on a Saturday night (Tequilas doesn't even normally take reservations) instrumental, but even as we were sitting down to our table, my cell phone rang and it was Jack checking in to make sure we were being taken care of. Want a great stay in Philadelphia two blocks from Rittenhouse Square? - Stay at the Lippincott House!

The innkeepers are super friendly and helpful! The breakfast is really good. It's fresh standard american fare...omelets, bacon, toast, hashbrowns...The rooms were quiet, clean, and comfortable. They are the only b&b in this part of town and the price is not bad. The place would be really nice to spend more time in or have a small business retreat. (meeting rooms, theatre, living spaces).

My husband and I stayed here after our wedding--it was fabulous. The rooms are cute and cozy and the staff is friendly. I'd recommend staying here just to see the inside of the house!

This building was gorgeous and the location can't be beat, walking distance or a quick taxi ride to everywhere I needed to be, including some wonderful restaurants recommended by the staff! Plan to stay here whenever I'm traveling to this lovely city.

Me and my wife have stayed all over Philly and this is by far the best place we've found! The design is beautiful. My wife took more pictures of the inside than she did of Philadelphia. Stepping inside is like taking a trip into the past. Until you realize there's free wi-fi (harder to find than you think) and an awesome theater room with movie theater chairs and a giant screen. It has a perfect location! It's right in the heart of downtown, a block from Rittenhouse Square. It's by far the most reasonably priced for that location. Plenty of bathrooms (important for B&B's, trust me...). And when we weren't out and about we loved talking to the Innkeeper, Jack. Very welcoming and funny! We'll be back there later this year. Highly recommended!

I'm so glad I found this place. Every room in here is a work of art, the architecture and the furniture are just so fantastic. SO much better than tacky hotel decorations! And it's smack in the middle of the best area in Philly. If you like Mexican food, try Tequila's, right across Rittenhouse Square. Otherwise, you might never want to leave this house. They've got a pool table, an eight-foot projection screen (bring DVDs!), and one of the most amazing murals I've ever seen. This has got to be Philly's best-kept secret right now.
