Iron Corbel Inn Bed and Breakfast

  • Inn Details

The "Iron Corbel Inn Bed & Breakfast" is a Second Empire, Victorian style house, located in the heart of Historic Hollidaysburg. The original house was built in 1854, but the house you see today was not completed until the 1880s when the third floor was added. The name originates from the cast iron columns on the front porch and the brackets "corbels" which support the mansard style roof and porch(which look like ladies faces). Marble fireplaces and converted gas chandeliers along with original detail create an elegant formal Parlor and Dinning Room. Floor to ceiling mirrors and stained glass windows make the Great room a magnificent place for a special event. The parlor and front porch provide areas to comfortably sit and read. The house is tastefully decorated with period antiques and artwork, yet still has a warm homelike atmosphere. Each guest room have there own private baths. Rooms have a variety of options for sleeping and some can accomodated children. While most rooms have showers the Guest Suite and other third floor nautical room have old clawfoot tubs in addition to a shower. Wireless internet, airconditioning, full breakfast are the largest ammenities offered. Additional meals can be provided with advance request, as the owner is a culinary graduate. Early breakfast is offered at 7am Monday through friday. Historic Hollidaysburg is a quiet residential neighborhood dating back to the 1800s. The sidewalks are lined with large old Victorian houses. The Iron Corbel Inn is both convenient and peaceful for travelers staying in the area. It is close to Altoona and just down the street from the Blair County Courthouse.

We decided to visit Johnstown, PA and found very few decent B&B's in that area, so I somehow found this Inn. Had a wonderful long conversation w/Heather and made a reservation & then found out it was a 40 mile drive! Once we arrived at the Inn we were not disappointed! Heather is an extremely gracious host who is very friendly, outgoing, a phenomenal chef, and made us feel right at home. The inn was like eye candy for us: from the numerous photos/pictures/plates on the walls to the floor to wall mirrors to the quaint piano off in the corner to the long comfy window seat you can sit in and read or just daydream about the clouds in the sky to the different patterned rugs on the floors to the big fireplace adorning the living room to the overstuffed magazine racks left there to peruse to the rich patterned curtains on all the windows, etc. Our room (The Cypress Room) was exactly what we expected with a nice modern bathroom and a very comfy bed that we fell asleep into after nice long showers. There are no TV's or radios, so be prepared - it took me a while!! Breakfast was wonderful: vegetable strata, fried potatoes, thick bacon, fresh orange juice and coffee and nice hot scones. What more could we ask for?? We are already planning our next trip up there for next month! Can't wait to visit again!!

    Iron Corbel well worth it!

7 of my family members stayed at the inn due to a family funeral. Everyone enjoyed their rooms. The house is beautiful. We loved the vast array of books and magazines. The black & white suite is huge!! Thanks for a nice stay given the circumstances.

The home has been completely restored and has a very welcoming and grandeur aura about the home. The garden room we stayed in had tall celings with little interesting trinkets, books, and artwork throughout the room. The bathroom had all the current accomodations and everything a normal hotel would have, i.e. towels, robe, and samples. Breakfast was served promptly at 9:00 on sunday morning, and was expertly prepared and was very delicous. There are so many things about the home that made it extremely interesting, and the history collected about the past homeowners make it that much more so. Heather was a excellent hostess and I would recommend anyone looking for a quiet getaway to the area.

The owner was kind enough to leave us a key since we arrived after 12:30 AM. The room was very clean and nicely appointed, however, there was no heat in the room and we froze for two nights. It would have been much more enjoyable if we didn't need the hairdryer to keep warm.

    Innkeeper Response
I gladly try to correct problems and accomodate my guests whenever I can. In october the weather can be unpredictable warmer during the day and sometimes the temperature does drop at night.I sometimes leave keys when I do not personally check-in guests after midnight,if guests do not eat breakfast I have no way to double checking details,a decision I will think twice about in the future. I am really sorry these guests had a poor experience.
