I surprised my husband with a romantic weekend get-away...just two of us...no kids...it was perfection! We stayed in the barn section of the estate, in the Begger on Horseback suite. The suite was similar to a chalet in the mountains...it had its own kitchen, living room and bedroom loft. Also, we had our own private deck where we just out...enjoyed our bottle of wine, and complimentary cheese plate. Dinner at the estate was incredible! The staff and chef were extremely attentive and friendly. The estate is right down the street from Peddler's Village, and about 12 minutes from New Hope where we enjoyed a day of walking the shops. BTW: we also had in-room spa treatments that were fabulous! We plan on returning ASAP...this was the best B&B we have ever visited.

My husband and I had our wedding at the bed and breakfast and it truely exceeded our wildest dreams. The grounds were perfectly manicured, the staff was very friendly and accomodating, and the rooms were extremely unique. We loved that the jacuzzi was very large and roomy. As I got ready for the wedding in the suite I was able to look out our balcony as the wedding was being set up. While Tom (the chef) did not caterer our wedding, he did cook brunch for us the next morning. The spread was more than anyone could ask for and Tom was also available to cook specialty omlets for those that wished. We were very proud to have our dream wedding there.

My husband and I spent a much needed “getaway” weekend at Barley Sheaf Farm Estate and Spa in late June and enjoyed every minute of it. The property is amazing, with a long tree lined drive, gardens, gazebo and swimming pool. The main building is a beautifully restored stone manor house. The common areas, accented with antiques, are elegant but still cozy and inviting. Photographs illustrate the history of the property, including the era when it served as vacation home to George Kaufman and hosted guests like the Marx brothers! Each suite is identified by the title of one of Kaufman’s works, adding to the character of the estate. We stayed in “The Man Who Came to Dinner” suite, in the main house. This suite includes a dressing/sitting area with a vanity, Jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace. The separate bedroom is decorated with beautiful antiques and amazing linens and the luxurious marble bath with steam shower was to die for! A second sitting area, surrounded by windows, opens to a private balcony overlooking the grounds. Breakfast in the morning was truly gourmet, with different entrée selections each day, pastries and fresh fruits. Since the weather was warm, we enjoyed our breakfast on the patio, but the dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful murals would have been just as pleasant. The staff at Barley Sheaf was very friendly and helpful. We felt like our stay was very intimate and private but, when we did have a need, someone was right there to assist. I only wish we had been able to try the wine tasting dinner offered on certain evenings. We will definitely include this on our next visit to Barley Sheaf!

My husband and I were appalled when we woke to our final morning at the Barley Sheaf and found...no one. There was a plastic bag, yes, a plastic bag of bannana bread and a pile of envelopes with the names of guests I presume were to check in that evening. When we called to complain that we were not told that there would be no employees and no breakfast upon booking our room we were offered a 12.50 discount---$12.50. Needless to say we will NEVER spend such an outrageous price for the bed without the breakfast. The economy is down and so is their provision of services...what a shame.
Innkeeper Response
This guest was a repeat customer who was here for an extended stay of three days. The first two mornings, they had a full gourmet breakfast and complimented on how wonderful it was. The third morning was New Years Day. Our entire staff was given off , and our guests were aware of this. However, we left a Continental Breakfast for them to enjoy. None of our other guests complained, but since this guest did, we reimbursed them $25.00. Unfortunately it was not a gourmet breakfast, but it included fresh baked goods( wrapped in plastic for freshness), fruit, juices, coffee, and tea. We are open 365 days a year (1 day without service).

My wife and experienced or most enjoyable weekend getaway due to Barley Sheaf website descriptions being spot on, exaggeration free. The art deco "You Can't Take it With You" suite was as presented by images and descriptions. The grounds are well thought out, maintaine. Birds and blooms galore. Tom and the kitchen succeeded in perfection in each brunch, as well as the dinner tasting. Our massage experiences were top notch as well. No effort or attention to detail was spared for the entire weekend. Rates while appearing on the high end are appropriate since no surprises produced no disappointment. Will return.
