Sheppard Mansion

Originally, my husband and I had planned to only spend one night at the Sheppard Mansion. But after meeting the staff who were so helpful and kind, and tasting the wonderful dishes prepared by the chef and other staff, we both fell in love with the mansion. The warmth, beauty and comfort of the Mansion was breathtaking and we had succumbed to it's spell. Both my husband and I spent an additional two nights at this magnifiscent home that felt like home. We had a very nice stay at the Sheppard Mansion, the dinner was wonderful and the new carriage market shop had a lot of nice foods and housewares. We requested a different room after the first night due to the "Horsehair" mattress in our original room, some people love it, we did not. Everything else was fantastic, including the breakfast in the morning. We would stay again.

Hanover is a quaint little town; the Mansion is breathtaking. I recommend this place to anyone who just needs a change of venue, or for the Civil War buffs. It rained for a good part of the weekend my husband and I were there; but there happened to be no other guests that weekend, so we were free to explore the place. The portraiture, the books, the artifacts were all very interesting.

We had a great experience and appreciated our morning conversations with the Proprietor. We definitely appreciated all she did for us to make our stay very enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

Our room was very spacious and had a nice bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. The highlight of our visit was dinner at the restaurant which we both agreed was one of the best meals we have experienced. The chef uses fresh local ingredients in unusual but outstanding combinations. Every one we encountered provided outstanding service. We would go back.

A friend gave us a wonderful wedding present- a B&B in my bride's home town!

Although we only dined at the Mansion, the owner and her staff made our Anniversary one of the most memorable in our 35 years of marriage. Making special arrangements was no issue to them, and they all worked hard to impress us. The ambiance and food are second to none. We've traveled this country and dined in many fine dining establishments, but they all pale in comparison to the Sheppard Mansion. I will never be able to thank them enough, except to say, "We WILL be back".

This place is unbelievable. We live nearby, but came for a weekend away from everything. From the moment we entered the magnificent doors, through a tasting menu in the dining room, and a delicious breakfast the next morning, everything was perfect! No detail was overlooked, including proper table settings, wine service, and beds that were more comfortable than my own! We'll be back for certain, and can't wait to tell everyone we know. It's the best kept secret around! And for a few dollars more than another chain hotel OR your average lacey-doiley B and B, you get a totally unique experience that we haven't had since our last trip to Europe. Just amazing!
