The closest inn accommodations to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and his Kentuck Knob, the Summit Inn sits majestically atop Chestnut Ridge in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of Southwestern Pennsylvania, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. With its turn of the century splendor, the Summit Inn beckons to the modern day traveler to stop, rest, and journey back to a simpler time. A time when life was slower and the cares of the day were not as urgent as they are today. Situated on the historic National Road-America's first federally funded highway, the Summit Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This historic landmark has hosted diverse travelers through the decades. From German outdoor enthusiasts embarking on a whitewater rafting expedition at nearby Ohiopyle State Park, to Australian architects visiting Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, they all agree that the Summit Inn is the center of both natural and major tourists' attractions in the Laurel Highland. Since its grand opening in 1907, the Summit Inn has played a key role in the history of the area. And like the mountains that it rests upon, it too has survived the passage of time. Long before man ever dreamt of flight, guests of the Summit were lulled to sleep to the sound of calm mountain breezes that blew outside its windows. Through four wars and one depression, the Summit Inn has afforded its guests a welcoming getaway where strangers meet and leave as friends.

    Quiet getaway

    June 24, 2012

The Summit Inn provided us with a very peaceful and quiet getaway. The view from the porch is positively gorgeous. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Our breakfasts and dinners were delicious and the portions were generous. Wish we could've stayed longer.

    Great stay

    July 30, 2011

Stayed here after our wedding last weekend. Summit Inn staff, especially Cathy and Pat, couldn't have been more gracious and welcoming. Wonderful stay. Great facility. Very comfortable bed. Wonderful view of the valley. Great outdoor seating for dinner and drinks. Great value. We considered Nemacolon and we're so glad we chose the Summit Inn instead. Nemacolon is needlessly expensive, fake facades and architecture, and virtually deserted. Summit Inn felt like a great place to come home to each night alive with people but not overcrowded. 15 minutes from Ohiopyle State Park (rafting, biking, hiking), Falling Water, etc. Great stay! Thank you Summit Inn!

    Fabulous and friendly Inn

    September 01, 2008

From the gorgeous five county view off the beautiful veranda, to the delicious breakfasts served in the dining room, the Summit Inn is a true find. The Inn is located close to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwaters,Kentuck Knob and spectacular Ohiopyle State Park. We enjoyed a wonderful meal on the expansive porch - the crab cakes were excellent! Friendly, accomodating staff adds to the perfection of your stay. Please say "hi" to Tootsie for us if you go...

    Great Place

    August 29, 2008

My wife and I stayed at The Summit in August 2008 and found it really charming. The service is friendly and the building itself was a treat, especially sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Afew things to note, first we went to western PA to visit Falling Water. The Sumit is close to FW but not "the closest" so if that's important to you, look in Ohiopyle PA. Second, the view, building, lobby, restaurant and pool are wonderful. The rooms have comfortable beds but the furnishings are very 1980 and could use replacing. I'd recommend period reproductions to match the 1920's decor of the lobby. Finally, the walls are a bit thin between rooms so there is some noise if your neighbors aren't courteous. All in all a great place to stay and we recommend it. Enjoy.

Quick stop in the Mountains - worth it!

    August 21, 2008

My family wanted to visit Fallingwater and couldn't find any place to stay on short notice (even with a pet). I read some poor reviews on line about Summit but decided it was worth a try for one night. Indeed it was! I recommend this location as the staff is very friendly, the facility is well maintained, food is wonderful and the view is breathtaking! If we could have stayed for another night, we would have...give it a try.
