I Stades at Churchtown Inn B&B in the John Griffin Room and was put back to the times of Jane Austin tales! The Room was very cosy and represented the ancient times perfectly. The breakfast was outstanding!! The in keepers we're extremly helpful and had very interesting things to Tell - especially about Amish way of living. I will definitly Return!

I spent two nights in the John Griffin Room and I felt like a young lady in one of the Jane Austin tales. Jim and Chris are the most gordious hosts you can think of! They are always present when needed. They have very much to tell about the Amish and give helpful advised. The breakfast is just out of this world! I will defenitly je back!!
Hi Barbara, Thanks so much for the kind words. You are the very first to liken our Inn to Jane Austin. We are telling everyone about our very interesting visitor from Frankfurt, Germany. Everyone especially likes hearing about your Bear Blog. Warm regards, Chris, Jim and Gracie

Excellent innkeepers! Very kind, helpful and take very good care of their inn. The room I was in (Clarkson) was excellent. Good amenities and well-maintained (esp. for such an old building). Only negative is price. A little expensive per night.

Gorgeous accommodations! Delightful company! Delicious breakfast, never the same! Very clean, quiet, peaceful, homey! I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else! Jim and Chris feel like family! They are so warm and welcoming! Staying in their home is definitely a treat!

My husband and I stayed at the Churchtown Inn for a date night. We had a gear stay! The room was so pretty and the fireplace was great since it was a chilly night outside. The innkeepers Chris and Jim was so friendly and told us some of the history of the building. As much as we loved our room it didn't begin to compare to the breakfast! It is worth staying here just to have Chris cook for you!!! We will definitely stay here again.

What an awesome experience. Have been to B&Bs before, however this is one of my favorites. The innkeepers were personable, friendly, and very knowledgeable of the area and answered all your questions. The meals were so tasty and unique. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to stay in the Lancaster County area! Cathy (Stant) and Jerry Ushler - Bridgeton, NJ

When you arrive at the Inn, owners Chris and Jim make you feel like you never left home. The food is all home made and delicious. We were there for a reunion with all our friends and have made reservations for the same time next year and hope that we can do it again this spring. Thank you Chris, Jim and Gracie

Chris and Jim are fantastic hosts in their lovely historic home. A quiet retreat from the hectic world we live in. The garden area with the waterfall is so peaceful! Chris is a fantastic cook and the breakfasts feature many items from local Amish and Mennonite Farms. If you want to tour Lancaster county this is the perfect place to start!

Charming 18th century building with beautiful views and gourmet breakfasts. Jim and Chris were very gracious and helpful. Lots to do in the surrounding area.

We really enjoyed this property. The kids loved staying next to a cemetery Plenty of room in the house. Could use a second TV when you are traveling with little kids. Easy check in and check out. Not convenient to Hershey or Lancaster, not much around. We did not mind though, the countryside ride so pretty. We did not receive the "promised" milk, granola, etc. Property very clean.

This quaint little B&B is quite a jewel! The house itself is lovely and inviting, with several sitting areas for reading one of the hundreds of books they offer or playing a game, many of which are also available. We were warmly greeted by Jim before we even got inside, and Chris was right behind him (as was Gracie, their cute little dog). Cookies, Irish potato balls, and drinks were always available, and beer and wine were only $1 each. The nightcap was included! Our particular room was chosen because it has a queen bed and a twin bed. (We traveled with our daughter.) Though the beds were comfy, my husband and I kept banging our heads on the ceiling in the bathroom. This was he only negative point of the whole stay! The highlight was an authentic Amish dinner, which Nim and Chris arranged for us at their friends' David and Rebecca's house. Don't miss this experience! Breakfast was equally tasty, prepared by Chris with attention to detail. I would highly recommend! Just don't stay in the attic!

My husband and I stayed in the carriage house with our pup in October. This was a wonderful end to our honeymoon. We loved every aspect of it. We did not get to eat Jim & Chris's cooking (sure smelled good when we walked in) but I could rave on and on about how lovely these 2 are. We will definately be staying here again. Jim even allowed us to follow him in his vehicle down to the carriage house so we wouldn't lost. A++ Rating from us. Thank you so much again. The Hopfel's

This was our sixth trip to Churchtown Inn. We thoroughly enjoy staying with Chris and Jim who are amazing innkeepers. Chris fixes a gourmet breakfast and Jim tells a wonderful story about each course. If you stay on the weekend, you may even be able to eat with an Amish family, a real treat.

My wife and I stay at The Covered Bridge Cottage nearly every year - we have 2 boxers and the Cottage is dog friendly. The Innkeepers are wonderful, the location is great - very private - and the fact they are 'dog friendly' is the icing on the cake. We would live there if we could!
Thank you for your kind words. We are glad to have our guests be able to come and enjoy a "get-away" along with their pets. Boarding a dog is a hassle, and most dogs enjoy getting away as much as their owners.

Lovely historical building set in picturesque garden setting. The rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable. Hosts, Chris and Jim couldn't be more helpful and the breakfast was out of this world.....chilled apple soup, leek and bacon quiche with a sage sauce, accompanied by Bavarian nut rolls....just to add a sweet touch chocolate ginger fudge! Stunning!

Stayed mid August 2014 for two nights. Jim and Chris are excellent hosts and provide a wealth of information on the surrounding area/attractions and Amish life. Outstanding breakfast provided which includes the opportunity to meet and mingle with other guests and share experiences.Having a meal and a few drinks can be a problem as there are no Cabs/Taxis in the area so a designated driver is essential. Overall a great experience in beautiful and idyllic surroundings. Tom & Linda - Ireland
Thanks so much for the kind words. Having lived in the British Iles, I respect how seriously not drinking and driving is not done. We enjoyed your visit; make me homesick to go back across the pond. Warm regards Chris

We have stayed twice at the inn and it is well worth it. The rolling hills of Amish farms, the clip clop of Amish and Mennonite Buggies going by. Just a beautiful place to stay, visit and have treasured memories to share. Will visit again and again. Mrs. Karen Knippenberg
Thank you very much for your wonderful review. We enjoyed your visit. See you again next year.

Wonderful stone cottage is part of the B+B. Located just down the road from the B+B in the Poole Forge park. Quiet, peaceful. Lovely little house with 1 bedroom upstairs. Comfortable yet firm King size bed. My daughter stayed downstairs on the daybed. Nice kitchen, fully equipped (bring your own food of course). Chris and Jim who manage the property are very nice. They also allow a dog for an extra fee. I didn't make it up the B+B for breakfast but I bet is was good. If you travel during the first week of August, the whole main street is one big yard sale called Churchtown Days.

For my husbands 30th birthday we rented the Covered Bridge Cottage for the weekend and it was a really nice experience. At first I was skeptical booking the cottage due to the lack of pictures on their website but what changed my mind is how friendly Chris was on the phone when I called to inquire about their rules about bringing our doggie with us. The cottage is very cozy with great little details in the entire place .The kitchen is a very beautiful color and functional with everything provided. The bathroom was very nicely decorated, had plenty of great smelling soaps and a beautiful old style sink. The bedding was very clean but the mattress was pretty noisy with squeaking springs. It might be time for a new one. There is no phone in the cottage which is about 1 mile away from the main house. I didn't realize it was an issue until we wanted to make a call and there was no signal on our cellphones either. We set up wifi calling but every time we stepped outside signal was lost. This might be an issue for people that are older or that are not so good with cellphones and they need to make emergency calls or just a call to the main house. It would be great to have a phone that connects you to the main house or wifi that has more coverage. This definitely should be mentioned to guests when they arrive and help them out if they don't know how to use the wifi calling. Another surprise was that it is located in a park so you don't have complete privacy. There is actually 3 parking spots and a porta potty right outside the cottage door for people using the park but it was not bad at all. It was pretty quiet, we just had to be cautious with our dog when the cars where coming in the park. Overall me, my husband and especially our cutie daschund had a very nice weekend. We would definitely go back again and stay at the same cottage and would for sure recommend it to our friends. Thank you Chris for your hospitality and we hope to be able to come back soon.
Thank you for your candid and glowing response. I just wanted to let you know I sent your review to the Township Commissioners and the Port-A-Potty was removed the following week. The bed has been repaired. The cell phone coverage is a mystery. We now ask our visitors to check it when we show the cottage. So far, no problems...but we will keep abreast of this.

Jim & Chris offer a friendly, inviting atmosphere at the Churchtown Inn. We stayed in the Carriage House room, and from the moment we entered it, there was a sense of peace and having gotten 'away from it all'. I particularly enjoyed coffee before breakfast, where all the guests meet in the parlor (voluntarily) for coffee and conversation. The food was excellent.

We were so pleased with the warmth and hospitality of Chris, the owner of this B & B. Our breakfast was amazing; the room was spacious with a very comfortable kind sized bed; and, the inn is located in the heart of the Amish country. We will stay here again in a heartbeat.

We had our wedding party here in February last weekend (21st - 23rd), and had family fly in from around the world to celebrate in small style with us. We did the Amish wedding feast on Friday night, and the murder mystery night on Saturday. Chris & Jim made the entire weekend so memorable, even going as far as to get us a wedding cake. All out guests raved about it and had a blast! I wouldn't hesitate to ever recommend this place to anyone.

I have stayed at the Churchtown Inn for other events in the past and have always loved it there. My husband and I recently stayed there for our honeymoon and the new owners were absolutely the sweetest ever. In fact we enjoyed our stay so much we extended from one night to two. The room was cozy the breakfast delicious and service above and beyond. We so enjoyed getting to know Jim each morning at breakfast. It was like being among family. They even let us switch our room after it was booked. We are planning on staying for Valentine's day as well and I may even surprise my husband for his Birthday. We will be staying again and most likely staying for our anniversary next year. I would recommend the Chir brown In. To anyone wanting a nice affordable place to stay in Lancaster. It's close to everything but yet far enough away to give a retreat feeling to your stay. Seriously stay here. You will call in love with it just as my husband and I have. Judith M. McCarty

We were lucky enough to stay at the Covered Bridge Cottage last weekend. I have to say that the hosts were the most accommodating I have ever encountered. They not only allowed an early check in so that I could get a little sleep but they also provided a goody bag of snacks so I would be able to maximize my snooze time before heading out that night! The cottage was beautiful as was the surrounding park. We did have a time getting the temperature regulated in the cottage but it is construction from the 1700's so that was not entirely unexpected. Breakfast both mornings was very tasty. Hopefully we will be able to stay again soon. Thank you for a fantastic mini-vacation! Kim & Christopher

The inn keepers were very friendly and hospitable. The rooms in the cottage we rented were very neat and had plenty of linens. The kitchen had everything we needed for the meals we cooked there. The bed had huge people-shaped depressions and was like sleeping on bricks. Probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. The bedroom also lacked curtains - there were just some flimsy sheers, so no privacy or light blocking capability. I can't rate dining because we didn't eat with them this time. The last time we ate with them it was really average. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. It wasn't a bad experience, (except for my lack of sleep). I would consider staying with them again if my first B & B choice was not available, but probably not at the cottage (the bed ruined an otherwise lovely little cottage for me....can't have a good vacation on little to no sleep).

Our stay was fantastic. Great hosts, comfortable room and awesome food. Will definitely return.
5 on November 08, 2013
We have stayed at the Churchtown Inn's Covered Bridge cottage a few times. Each and every time it has been a wonderful experience. It is close to everything but also close to nothing. We have stayed here in both summer and winter. The setting is beautiful - in a park with a covered bridge in your yard. We prefer the winter stays since there are less people in the area around the cottage, however, the summer allows you to enjoy the surroundings. Pets are welcome which is very important to us. Grocery shopping is close by in a 'fun to shop in' store called Good's. The bed & breakfast is located about a mile up the road. We don't get breakfast but that is our preference. The cottage has a full kitchen with a microwave that sings "oh Susannah". How special is that? The innkeepers are extremely friendly. It is the perfect place to stay where you are pretty much away from everything but close to the little towns in this area.

We have stayed at this charming Inn twice in the last month , so I guess you would assume we loved it. We do! Both rooms we reserved were charming and quaint, with vintage décor and cozy amish quilts. The Innkeepers , Jim and Chris, are so welcoming ....it feels like your staying with family. Chris keeps a cookie jar of homemade cookies for guests and a fridge full of beverages too. They also arranged a memorable dinner at an Amish Family Farm. What a wonderful evening. Chris prepares a wonderful, hearty breakfast each morning with a unique main course and always homemade granola...It's yummy. We hope to return soon for another getaway at the Churchtown.

Charming B&B. Lovely and hospitable Inn keepers. Breakfast was amazing. Little Grace added a warm touch to the cozy environment. The room was small, but really nice, however, It was bit hard to adjust the temperature in the room. It was cold at first, then got really hot after we turned the heat on, and I finally just turned it off for the night.

We will certainly return soon.

THIS WAS THE MOST ENJOYABLE EXPIERENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD AT A BED AND BREAKFAST. JIM AND CHRIS FARR MADE US FEEL LIKE ONE OF "THEIR" FAMILY THAT WE HAVE KNOW SINCE CHILDHOOD. THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY BY PREPARING US A SPECIAL MEAL DUE TO OUR DOCTORS RECOMMENDATIONS. EVERYONE LOVED THE FOOD AND HOW THE TABLES WERE ARRANGED IN THE DINING AREA NOT ONLY OVER LOOKING THE GARDEN BUT THE MOUNTAINS TOO. THEIR SOCIALIZING WITH US AND THE OTHER GUESTS DURING OUR STAY MADE THE STAY FEEL MORE LIKE FAMILY THAN WE HAVEN'T SEEN IN YEARS. THE DINER ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT BY JIM AND CHRIS FARR WITH ANOTHER AMISH FAMILY NEAR BY WAS EVEN MORE EXCITING AND ENJOYABLE. WHEN CHECKING OUT THEY PERSONALY SAID GOODBYE TO EVERYONE AND WAVED AS WE PULLED AWAY. ANNE McCLAREN AND WILSON ARNDT.

From the moment Chris and Jim met us at the door when we checked in until we hugged goodbye 3 days later, our stay at Churchtown Inn B&B was as comfortable and familiar as staying with lifelong friends (which I hope they will be). They made us feel like we were at home from the beginning of our stay until we drove out of the driveway. Jim was better than a tour guide, with wonderful recommendations for evening dining and local attractions that were tailored to our interests and his knowledge of the surrounding area was truly educational. The Inn was immaculate and the staff simply wonderful and charming. Chris' breakfasts were delicious and she went above and beyond to meet our special food restrictions. We'll definitely be return patrons.

Churchtown Inn B&B is well located for a visit to Lancaster County. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully furnished. Breakfasts are excellent! Jim and Chris are very friendly and helpful. They have compiled a thorough list of places to visit in the general area, as well as restaurants within a 30-minute drive of the B&B. Overall, it's an excellent value.

The owners take extra care to make you feel part of the family and welcome. One night we attended an event which lasted longer than expected and then we drove to the inn during a terrible rain. Jim, the owner, stayed up late to insure we arrived safely and had no problems getting into the inn.

My wife and I were surprised by my brother and sister in law with a delightful Saturday night stay at the Churchtown Inn in the heart of Amish country. We are from South Carolina and really enjoyed the sights of the area. The inn keepers were very friendly and helpful, and our room was simply charming. A delicious breakfast awaited us on Sunday morning, after we had viewed the Mennonite buggies on their way to service.

We did a LOT of research on B&Bs throughout Pennsylvania Dutch country before making our choice. We looked at how the rooms were appointed (we prefer historic B&Bs with some authenticity), the price, the quality of the breakfast, and comfort criteria like air conditioning and a private bath. The Churchtown Inn had it all! That includes very accommodating and friendly hosts. The full breakfasts (we had 3) were all very creative and satisfying. We've been staying at B&Bs for about 28 years, including throughout the U.K., and we're giving the Churchtown Inn our highest marks.

My husband and I had the most wonderful time, Jim and Chris are great people and we felt welcomed in their home, breakfast was amazing - hearing the horse and buggies going by in the morning was a great treat - the second day - Jim had my tea ready and brought it outside I was really impressed - considering the house was full and he remembered that I drank tea and not coffee

The Friday before Christmas and all through out minds was an escape to Lancaster. We usually just do the 'day trip' from the Jersey Shore but this time we wanted something special. So we randomly picked a B & B and ended up with the Churchtown Inn. We were warmly greeted by Jim Farr who proceeded to give us a history of this historic B&B ... since it was a rare slow Friday night we were also able to scope out all of the bedrooms at this inn. Spying unique rooms that might be future requests on our list. The innkeeper's choice for our room was perfect with a gaslit fireplace, a very comfy queen sized bed and a room decorated to make us feel special. Having read the website, I had to ask about the one closet and ... as I opened the door I was truly surprised and impressed. The back dining area provides an outstanding view of Lancaster County farm land and the entire inn is just plain comfortable ... we were tempted to not go shopping but just to enjoy the ambiance including the sherry, homemade cookies and delicious choices of teas. We woke up before the morning breakfast bell and were treated to the outstanding hospitality of Jim and his wife Chris. Breakfast was yummy, filling and Chris' special eggs in wontons had both of us trying to figure out how to make it at home. The Amish made granola cereal was so good we brought two bags home with us. We lingered as long as we could before heading out shopping but have already decided that in the future we don't have to have any guesswork because the Churchtown Inn will be our only choice for a Lancaster B&B escape!
