  • c.1714 Pennsbury Inn showing the original blue granite stone house with flemish bond brick addition and wooden clapboard section added for coachmen and servants.
When arriving, enter into the comfortable library with built in wall of books and comfy chairs and loveseat to relax in. An antique lawyer's desk and printer's cabinet are full of brochures and informative guides to the attraction filled Brandywine Valley and menues for the myriad award winning, gourmet restaurants nearby.
The huge Garden Room/Breakfast Area overlooks the patio, four acres of landscaped gardens and four acres of wooded trails. You'll enjoy your sumptuous candlelight breakfast here each morning, in front of a roaring fire in the walk-in fireplace during our brisk Fall and Winter days. During the Spring and Summer you'll be able to gaze out at the multitude of flowers and the many varieties of birds that come to our birdfeeders. Come back to relax here later in the day.
Our Music & Game Room with Pumpkin Pine mantles over both fireplaces, encourages lounging with a good book, a lively game of chess or playing the piano, on the other side of the room.
The antique brass queen-sized bed in the Daniel Webster room will immediately catch your eye as will the very realistic flame in the electric firestove insert in the original 1759 mantled fireplace. The shower in the modern bath is large enough to have a party! Multiple antiques will add to your comfort and the room's charm. Don't forget to ask about the intriquing history involving Daniel Webster!
Facing both the side gardens and the back is the Four Seasons Room-with a step-up, antique four poster "king" bed, two wing-back chairs, walk in closet with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, a modern shower bath and Pierre Deux French toile wallpaper depicting all of the seasons. The soft green toile somehow immediately relaxes you when you enter the room. Gaze out your oversized windows, to our "mini" Longwood Gardens complete with fountains.
The queen-sized antique-spool bed in the John Marshall room, matches the dresser. The original 1749 stuccoed fireplace, now contains a cozy electronic firestove. A full-sized elaborate antique desk allows you to keep up with your travel diary. The adjacent private full bath, overlooks the reflecting pool in the gardens.
Winterthur Suite-step down into your sunken bedroom with a huge palladian window, flanked by casement windows, overlooking the expansive, beautifully landscaped grounds. The Nina Campbell toile wallpaper extends up to and across the slanted, beamed ceiling. Sink into the featherbed on your queen, "Select Comfort" bed or relax on your overstuffed sofa or antique rocker. Your full bath, includes a deep soaking tub with spa attachment. Many extra little luxuries increase your enjoyment.
The Longwood room, originally the coachmen's quarters, as it overlooks the carriage house so they could watch over their horses. The twin beds shown can alternatively be arranged into a king. Each of the three bedroom windows overlook the lush front gardens. The largest bathroom in the inn has a massive shower and pedestal sink.
An optional daybed usage along with the 4 poster king bed, allows three to enjoy the General Lafayette room. Adding the optional first floor parlor, turns it into the Up & Down suite. Antiques abound to make this a most charming abode. Sleep to the sound of the garden fountains in the fish pond and reflecting pool outside your windows.

The Pennsbury Inn's five sitting rooms, seven bedrooms, dining rooms and eight acres of landscaped grounds comfortably blend colonial heritage with casual elegance.A study done a few years ago by a well known historical architect and six Penn grad students, reveals much of the Inn's past. The inn is a large but cozy retreat with uneven floorboards, slanted doorways, winding staircases and walk-in fireplaces. On acreage purchased from William Penn's Commissioners, the Inn's original dwelling house was erected in 1714. It was enlarged mid-century by a stone and brick addition and in the 19th century with a clapboard extension. Until recently a private home, owners Cheryl and Chip Grono have returned the structure to its 1800's role as a country inn. Let Cheryl turn down your covers and leave a home baked goody on your pillow and start you off the next morning with a sumptuous breakfast on your next special trip to the romantic Brandywine Valley. All the rooms have feather beds, modern baths, phones, computer modems & wireless, as well as cable TV.

    Historic delight

    March 28, 2013

I've stayed at Pennsbury Inn twice and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The food is original and delicious (and abundant!) and the rooms are comfortable. My favorite is Winterthur for the luxurious size and the lovely garden view. Rooms in the back are much quieter than those in the front - I've stayed in both. The innkeepers are wonderful about giving good local recommendations. Can't wait to go again!

You should stay at the Pennsbury Inn!

    August 28, 2012

We spent our 28th wedding anniversary at the Pennsbury Inn, in Chadds Ford, PA. It was a wonderful visit. Comfortable, good food, relaxing and the innkeepers were available at any time to offer suggestions, directions and assistance in meeting all of our needs. We considered spending our anniversary at a multitude of possible locations throughout the USA and chose this one.....you should too!

The Innkeepers were hospitable and very helpful. Our room and bathroom were clean and comfortable and our breakfast was delicious. The grounds and gardens were spectacular. One tip, the reception area was dark and cluttered and didn't give a good first impression, however, our overall stay was enjoyable.

    Wonderful, wonderful inn

    May 16, 2012

Our second stay and it was every bit as wonderful as the first! Chip and Cheryl are wonderful hosts, and delightful to be around. The inn is lovely and welcoming, the lawns and gardens beautiful. It was my granddaughter's 10th birthday and they went above and beyond to make is a special time for her. She didn't want leave - neither did I!

A lovely getaway, even in winter!

    March 16, 2012

Our hosts, Chip and Cheryl, were interesting, knowledgeable, & fun. The inn was so comfortable, with lots of history as it was built in the 19th century. Loved our room, the Lafayette, with a private stair, fireplace, king-size bed. Will go back!

    First time ever

    January 24, 2012

We were impressed with the history of the inn, quaintness of rooms and overall service & meals. However we thought the common areas were a little cluttered.

    Innkeeper Response
Every single room in the inn is decorated for Christmas and most guests are delighted to come see all of its festive nature, without having done the work. Of course one guest's delight may not be another guest's cup of tea. We've won awards for our decorating for the holidays, but I'm sorry that it was too much for these guests. I'm very glad that they had an enjoyable time otherwise and hope that they will continue to enjoy the B&B experience in the future as we're all very unique.

    Excellent B&B

    January 21, 2012

We spent one mid-week night in order to visit a museum in Wilmington. The inn is a beautiful old (some of it 18th century) house with extensive grounds. The room was nice (I cannot say it EXCEEDED my expectations), the bathroom adequate, and the bed very very comfortable. The room was up a steep narrow staircase (it is, after all, an old house), which was not a problem for us to negotiate, but would be for some people. The most outstanding feature of our stay was the service and friendliness of our host and hostess, Chip and Cheryl. We really felt as if we were guests in a private home. Lots of little touches. Chip cooked an outstanding breakfast. Their website suggested half a dozen restaurants for dinner. We chose one and Cheryl made a reservation for us (a week before we made our trip). It was first rate. We would definitely stay at Pennsbury again.
