Arthaus is a unique experience of Living With Art in a house filled with antiques and creatively reclaimed objects from around the world and through the ages where we provide an intimate, communal, respectful convergence of people, ideas, and aesthetics. More often than not Arthaus guests will include creative professionals such as filmmakers, dancers, poets, writers, designers, musicians, and painters. We are located in the historic Head House district of Queen Village in a historically certified 1790's house originally occupied by John Douglass, a Captain in George Washington's army and one-time Sheriff of Philadelphia. In one direction we are steps away from the excitement of South Street complete with bars, characters, and of course cheesesteaks; in the other direction you can explore small gourmet restaurants, and BYOBs, eclectic stores, and tons of Philly history. We are also within easy walking distance of the Philadelphia Convention Center, Italian Market, the Gayborhood, Theater of Living Arts (TLA), the Magic Gardens, Independence Hall (where the Liberty Bell lives), the new Jewish Museum, the Seaport Museum, and Old City. All room rates are inclusive of breakfast and taxes. We offer taxi service from the airport and 30th Street Station with lower rates than commercial taxis. There are multiple parking lots (paid) within a few blocks of the house. We speak English, French, Spanish, German, and Haitian Creole. If you'd like to contact us by phone, please do so between 7am and 4pm Eastern Time. Please also visit our website where you'll find reviews, our availability calendar, many more photos, and detailed information about our policies. We also have a Facebook page! We look forward to welcoming you to Philadelphia and to Arthaus.
Our popular ground floor suite includes a private bathroom with a rain shower head, and a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, refrigerator, microwave, ironing board, hairdryer, flat-screen TV, DVD player, and library. One small child per reservation is welcome - we have a playpen, books, and toys available upon request. There is no window in the bedroom of the suite, however the adjoining living room has a window looking out onto the residential street. Jo's Room is the quietest room in the house and we've taken great care to insure excellent lighting and airflow in the suite.
Also on the third floor, Moishe's Room boasts a fireplace, full-sized bed original 1790s pine floors and an innovative, beautiful, reclaimed walnut sliding door. Perfect for guests who love the city, the window faces the street and sounds of the city are occasionally heard, especially on weekends.
Occupying the top floor of the house, Sashou's Room is a charming, cozy space with a dormer ceiling, full-sized bed, and original 1790s pine floors. With this room only, we offer access to our roof deck with beautiful city views for an additional fee. The windows in Sashou's Room also face the street where you may hear some city noise to serenade you to sleep.

I will definitely return to Arthaus next time I'm in Philly. The host gave fantastic restaurant recommendations and I loved that I could walk everywhere. Also want to point out that even though the website is beautiful the photos don't do justice to the actual house!

We loved Arthaus! The location was perfect, host was great and we were especially impressed that the gorgeous breakfasts looked exactly like they did on the website!

From the moment [the host] opened the door of this beautifully decorated, warm and cozy house I was made to feel welcome, appreciated and respected. The house is well situated to walk to many landmarks and to the Convention Center (as my stay was primarily a business trip). Both days [there was] a nourishing breakfast to begin the day and the conversation amongst [the host] and the other guests made for a warm, hospitable start to the day. As I told some other guests that were arriving as I was leaving "the only thing better than the house is the host". [He] went above and beyond the call of duty to make every guest feel welcome, cared for and confident in the fact that this was going to be a good stay, and indeed, that proved true for me.
