The Alexander Benjamin House

We stayed at the Alexander Benjamin house from Saturday thru Tuesday. My boyfriend and I wanted to take a mini vacation and we were on a budget. So we decided to look for places in Pennslyvania and that's where we came upon this B&B. It was a great value and near Jim Thorpe! The breakfast was so delicious. Every morning we were greeted with fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, and more! The smells of the pancakes and bacon filled the house and I was truly in heaven! I had the most amazing Blueberry Pancakes my boyfriend had the French Toast! Both were soooooo delicious and very filling! We stayed in the Green Room that had a two person jacuzzi!!!! After being out all day hiking or shopping, the best part was the both of us relaxing in this amazing jacuzzi with a glass of wine!!! We both felt too relaxed. :) The king size bed was super comfortable! Mark and Hilary were very kind and Mark knew a lot of information and helped us decided where to go. This was our first bed and breakfast stay, we had received a gift card from my husbands daughters. It was a great gift. This weekend was our 4 wedding anniversary and waking up to snow on the last Saturday in Ooctober was a shock, but fun.

My wife and I arrived very late, but got very helpful directions from Mark (thanks Mark!). Our room was spacious, the rates reasonable, and breakfast (cooked by Mark) was delicious. We only stayed one night, but we will definitely be back when we're in the area.

My hubby and I stayed at this B&B this October. We were just passing through the area but we had a great stay! The room was cozy and the fall colors in the area were beautiful. The "smaller" breakfast on weekdays were still very yummy and plenty of food for us. While in the area we went to the Martin Guitar Factory (mostly for my hubby, but I found it surprising fun as well!). Would stay at this B&B again.

When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Hilary. Who gave us a little tour and took us to our room. We stayed in the Green room for two nights. The room was very nice, large bed and bathroom. The room was spotless the low score for cleanliness was for the kitchenette, the refrigerator was disguisting. It has not been cleaned for a very long time as it contained rotten or spoiled food. Also, we didn't mind since we're eco friendly, we were not told that are room would not be cleaned during our stay. Also, we found it odd that the rooms did not have cups or tissues. We had to hunt down cups in the kitchenette and ask for tissues. Breakfast was inconsistent. One day it was freshly cooked by Mark, who mentioned that he likes to serve folks and was very social asking if we needed help with plans and ensuring we had enough food. Hilary perfers a buffet. The buffet was good, however it was not maintained. We did not see her during our meal and some food ran out. Checking out was easy as we paid in full when we arrived.

We appreciate your review, but let me clarify some of the following: We clean our kitchenette daily, and the house and refrigerator are professionally cleaned twice weekly. We do not throw any food out that our guests stock in the refrigerator until the weekend is over. If someone stored something unappealing, we would not have thrown it away until after the weekend, unless it was truly rotten. There was no such items in the refrigerator. Secondly, we do not clean our guest rooms while guests are in for a 1 or two night weekend stay. We always supply extra towels, etc. As for cups and tissues, all rooms are provided with Dixie cups and tissues. We do not stock highballs or wine glasses in any rooms because of insurance restrictions. You will have to walk to the kitchenette for those items, but the kitchenette is located within ten feet of our Green Room. Also, we ALWAYS provide ample food on our buffet, but unfortunately, it is not an "all you can eat buffet." We do serve our food at 8:45 a.m., and keep the buffet out until 9:30 a.m. and we do not continue to bring out food. We serve enough that each person can enjoy 3-4 eggs, 4 pieces of meat, 4 or more pancakes, etc., fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, bagels, and more. I am sincerely sorry if this was not enough food for your group, but this is our policy. Also, our food is always freshly prepared,not just on the one day. Again, we are sorry that you were unhappy with your accommodations.

My girlfriend and I decided to come here for a quick little weekend getaway. This is the first time either of us have stayed at a B&B so we really didn't have anything to compare it to. It was clean, it was quiet, it's in a beautiful area. The breakfast was outstanding and the owners were very attentive and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

A great find off the beaten path and Mark greeted us patiently and friendly even though we were late arriving. Hilary's breakfast was filling and tasty with a great presentation. The only problem we had was with the air conditioner coming on loudly when during the cooling cycle, but was resolved when we turned the temp up so that we only heard the hum of the fan.

My husband & I enjoyed our stay at the Alexander Benjamin House very much. It was like being a guest in someone's home. Hilary was very friendly. The room was lovely. Breakfast was wonderful - I loved the blueberry pancakes. I was actually a little disappointed when we got chocolate pancakes the second morning. That's how good the blueberry ones are. The B&B is very conveniently located to downtown Jim Thorpe, Mauch Chunk Lake State Park, and several wineries. Cell service is kind of spotty inside the house but I didn't mind because the whole point of our trip was to "unplug".

Just looking from the outside does not give this any justice. We stayed in the Pink Room. Very large room with plenty of space and a nice sized private bathroom. Very well priced, local hotels wanted to charge almost double the price. Only wish we would have known about this earlier. We WILL be coming back again. Thank you for being such a pleasant host.

We've stayed at the Alexander Benjamin House twice (in two different rooms). Both times, the rooms exceeded our expectations, and the breakfasts were delicious.

A wonderful breakfast every morning. Peaceful rooms, with soothing colors and wonderful paintings all around the house. More than enough to keep a person occupied, and many suggestions from the hosts. I will return for more of this pampering!

Reservation and contact with Hilary, very good. The third morning, no way to get the breakfast before 8 AM.

This group stayed with us on Christmas Day, and we did all we could to accommodate them, including allowing them a nearly midnight check in on Christmas Eve. We could not accommodate a hot breakfast before 8 am, however, due to the holiday, the needs of other guests, lack of staff etc. They were told of this, as all of the guests were, before their arrival, so that if this was a problem, they had the option of staying with another B&B. At the time, these guests said that it was not a problem, and chose to stay in spite of Christmas morning breakfast being served at 9 pm. We always do all we can within reason and within the constraints of our other guests comfort to accommodate requests, and we are sorry that they saw this problematic after the fact.

Hillary and Mark provide an escape from the hectic to a little serenity. It starts with a grand entrance to a beautiful country interior. A neat clean room with fresh Spring flowers. The most beautiful winery we have seen is only minutes away, also a great mountain top view a short drive and 15 minute walk. Try that after Marks excelent omlet for breakfast.

We really enjoyed this are of the Pononoes - right near lots of vineyards. The room was very comfortable, relaxing and warm. It was a cold, rainy fall weekend, so we got to relax away from our children and enjoy our anniversary. The food and hospitality were outstanding also!

This bed and breakfast is amazing! A group of us go every year to enjoy the Lehigh Valley wine trail and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The service is amazing, the people are so friendly and the food is fantastic. The rooms are spacious and clean. We stayed in the Amish room which was quaint yet roomy with so much character. The private bath was beautiful with a large shower and dressing area. We will continue to return to this wonderful establishment time and time again. We would highly recommend you try it!.

I was at the Alexander Benjamin house this weekend with my husband for a quick get away, and also to hike Hawk Mountain and enjoy the fall foliage. What an amazing B&B. The room was beautiful, clean and oh-so cozy! Mark & Hilly deserve a standing ovation for their hospitality and also their cooking skills, as they laid out a magnificent breakfast on both Sat & Sunday. Will absolutely be back! We were going to keep it "our little secret" but it's just too good a place not to share with others. Highly recommend this B&B to other travelers!

A lovely tranquil Inn with plenty of privacy yet attention whenever we needed it!!! Beautiful, clean rooms exceeded our expectations!!! There was plenty of delicious, homemade food for breakfast to satisfy anyone's taste. Hillary and Mark were excellent hosts!! We will definitely return!!!

My husband and I spent Labor Day weekend at the Alexander Benjamin House. The room was beautiful and clean. The Innkeepers were very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time.

We had a great time !! We had a wonderful room with a side porch and nice view. The Bed and Breakfast in a quaint quiet village with lots of places to visit and great places to eat. We had a wonderful hot breakfast eggs,bacon, fruit, danish,juices coffe . Mark and Hillary made us feel at home. Thanks Mark and Hillary for sharing your beauiful Bed and Breaksfast Great Bed and Breakfast !!!!

Amazing time. Beautiful house, wonderful breakfast (real breakfast, not "continental") charming and clean with terrific hosts! Mark and Hilary made us feel right at home and gave great suggestions on things to do during our stay. Also, loved Hilary's art studio. She showed us her artwork over a glass of red wine. Will definitely be staying here again soon, and also look forward to going back for the ski season!

They had friendly service, an excellent breakfast, and the atmosphere was peaceful.

My husband and I celebrated our 13th anniversary in the Green room. We had a fantastic getaway. The breakfast was mavelous. The house is beautiful. Hilary and Mark are terrific hosts. They treat you like long lost friends. They will definately give suggestions on wonderful area attractions. Listen to their suggestions. We did and saw the most breath taking waterfall. The coal mine #9 and the old jail were great too. Hope you choose to stay here. You will not regret it.
