Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast

Rose Cottage was a perfectly fine place to stay. It is centrally located to downtown Beaverton and close to the freeway. The proprietor was a bit more social than we were up for after a long day, but not a big deal overall. The Desert Rose room was nice (if slightly kitschy) and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very well made and quite elaborate (3 courses). However, my wife and I would rather have at least a small menu of options to choose from so our preferences can be taken into account. In this case, the omelette I had was made with bell peppers. I really dislike bell peppers and we didn't have time for the proprietor to make something else. A bit of a nitpick, but having a set of options would avoid that problem.

Sally (innkeeper) is a revelation in the kitchen. She has a set of house rules that encourage guests to keep the rooms in absolute perfect shape, all the way down to the nifty jacuzzi tub. I never did ask about the interesting mural of a cowboy who was taking a soak in the tub but clearly left his peacemaker a bit too far from him in case of a hullabaloo. Whoa. Big detour there. Back to the review! The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Sally keeps a strong focus on local and organic, which is a huge bonus for us locavore fanatics. The location was kind of odd, tucked away where you'd least expect it...but it was great! Quiet. Secluded. And amazing access to downtown Stumptown, wine country or the coast. This is a real treat. And Sally is a real charmer and resource for help. Plus, she is like a walking NPR station. A wonderful conversationalist and fun to chat with. Hooray for Cottage B&B. - Chris & Hil

the room is spacious and has so many amenities. Breakfast is delicious and nutritious. Sally uses only organic ingredients and each morning a different surprise. One must stay at Rose Cottage!

We stayed for five nights and once again had a wonderful experience. Sally is a great hostess who serves incredible breakfasts. From the scones to the fresh fruit to the fritatta to the baked french toast, you will not find a better breakfast anywhere. But maybe I should promote Rose Cottage too much because then I'll have trouble getting a room...

all i can say is; what an amazing find. the suite was charming and spotless. the breakfast was more then delicious and the owner had a story about the food and ingredients to go with each and every course. if you want a quiet beautiful atmosphere with a breakfast Chef Ramsay would rave about - this is the place.

We came down from Washington for a two night stay. There were four of us who were doing a "dinners drive-in and dives" weekend restaurant tour. We arrived Friday night late and left Sunday. In that there were four of us we rented both the Wild Rose Suite and the Desert Rose. The rooms were outstanding. Everything looks like it came out of a magazine. As to the innkeeper Sally Palmer, we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her in the mornings at breakfast. I cannot say enough about the breakfasts. As a result of the fantastic breakfasts, we ended up cutting back our trip to the actual restaurants that we had planned on coming down for. The inn is very close to the Max so we ended up using public transportation the entire weekend and let the car sit. Overall the experience was excellent and I will highly recommend the Rose Cottage to anyone wanting to stay in Portland. The price is about what you would pay for a downtown hotel but there is no comparison in value. We will with out doubt be going back. Thank you Sally for a fantastic stay.

A very comfortable and welcoming Bed and Breakfast, convenient to Portland. The room was very clean and had every thing you would need - refreshments in a small frig, travel information, hair dryer, magnifying mirror and more. Sally made works of art for breakfast. Each morning was a special treat and believe me you did not leave hungry! She uses local products and produce to create these wonderful meals. She has a wealth of information about the area and has good tips for getting around Portland. I would highly recommended this B & B. From Louisiana.

From the moment we arrived, met jolly bubbly Sally and saw the accommodation we knew we had a Host that was determined to ensure we had her undivided attention. The ample breakfast that was presented each morning was an example of careful planing, dedicated preparation and thoughtfully presented. Her reserch to assist us with our travels and advice on the local attractions was of a great help. The guidelines that were clearly set out allowed us to feel at home. When in Portland one can't afford to stay anywhere else. We have stayed at B and B's in the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, and at 15 B and B's in the USA on this vacation. Rose Cottage is a delightful, restful B&B which seems to be designed and operated for the sole purpose of raising one's spirit every morning and evening. My wife and I stayed in the Desert Rose Room for seven days recently, and enjoyed every minute. The room is large, prettily decorated in a country/mountain cabin style, with large windows which can be shuttered or actually opened, a huge, supremely comfortable king-size bed, a sitting area and, for those who absolutely must work, a working area by the windows. The bathroom is large and well appointed, with luxuriously thick towels, a glass-enclosed shower, and nice thoughtful touches throughout -- including a coffee maker that makes decent coffee. Everything, from the bathroom fixtures to the free WiFi, works perfectly. Everything is maintained, cleaned, polished, vacuumed, brushed, folded or organized to within an inch of its life; there's nothing left for the guest to do but relax and enjoy. The breakfast is a whole Portland experience by itself. It is prepared every morning by, and comes with the delightful company of, the Innkeeper herself, Sally Palmer. Everything served is fresh, plentiful, delicious, balanced and imaginative. It is a serious disincentive for lunch, but that was a sacrifice we were definitely willing to make every morning of our stay. We strongly recommend a stay at Rose Cottage when you visit Portland.

The food was great! We never had the same thing for breakfast and it was always tasty. Our hostess was very nice and had lots of great tips about visiting portland. We will definantly be coming back.

We stayed in the upstairs Desert Rose room and were delighted at the amenities--although the weather was wet and chilly, we were warmed by our welcome, the fabulous breakfasts and just 'hanging out'. We were delighted by the 'sunset' painted over the bank of shuttered west windows, especially in the evening with subtle lighting. Sally's attention to detail was extraordinary. Although within a short driving distance of the sights we wanted to see in Portland, we missed local walks and nearby dinner spots. We did enjoy the serenity--a nice anniversary getaway!

Because we found it in the dark, we were a little bit wary of the location (at the end of a street of duplexes), but inside it was a like a completely different world! It was far and away the nicest Bed and Breakfast at which we have ever stayed; the amenities were perfect to the last detail, and Sally's breakfast was better than perfect. Though we only got away 100 miles and just for the night, I felt as rested as though I'd had a proper vacation. Awesome!

We have stayed at Rose Cottage B&B four times, and we keep coming back. It is very close to downtown Portland, and the B&B couldn't be nicer. We stay in the Wild Rose Suite, which has a separate bedroom and living room area. We enjoy the fireplace in the evening, and often use the small kitchenette, too. You will sleep well in the comfy bed, with no sounds outdoors to disturb your sleep. Breakfast, served in Sally's home, is gourmet, presented in a lovely way, and is HUGE. You don't need lunch on a day you've had one of Sally's breakfasts. Please give Rose Cottage B&B a try. You won't be disappointed.

Pet owners should be aware, animals must be crated when left alone in the room and at night. They are not allowed on the bed or furniture. Also, this is not a great area for dog walking at night. Great attention to detail. Breakfasts are amazing. Rooms immaculate. Odd location.

I have been to many bed and breakfast establishments, both domestic and abroad. Sally's inn is a well run, immaculate, well equipped establishment. The food and her cooking is unparalleled - absolutely delicious scones!! Sally is a very cordial person who made my stay extremely worthwhile. The rooms have been thoughtfully equipped for your basic needs and the mattress was exceedingly comfortable. I would only stay at the Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast upon staying in Portland.

Sally was a wonderful hostess as well as cook. The food was deliscious every morning and we spent a pleasant hour each morning eating her breakfasts and talking. Sally never let our coffee cups remain empty. Sally asked if we had dietary restrictions and we said "no" and then when she served grapefruit and two of us were on medication for high cholesterol we felt badly that we didn't let her know that. This was a lesson learned by us and we will communicate our dietary restrictions the next time we visit.

Our stay at the Rose Cottage B&B was a truly wonderful experience. The B&B is nestled in the perfect location to use as home base when exploring Portland and/or surrounding areas. The room was meticulously cleaned, very comfortable, and quiet. We were not around in the evenings to view the sunsets from the Desert Rose Room, but we did wake up every morning to views of blue skies with wisps of white clouds over green treetops. Perfect way to start the day, not to mention the amazing breakfasts! What Sally prepared every morning was absolutely delicious and kept you satiated well into the late afternoon. We loved that she is conscientious and used local and organic products in everything she made. Sally is absolutely lovely and so is her B&B!

Sally is a remarkable woman and a store of information on Portland. We learned a lot in conversation over the gormet breakfasts. She is a very thoughtful and caring innkeeper.

The Rose Cottage is the best B&B I've stayed in. Sally prepares very wholesome and healthy meals. The inn is incredibly clean, cozy, quiet, and well-decorated. I stayed for a total of four days, and came back home so relaxed, as if I had been gone for weeks. The inn is well located with short drives to all of the sites. The gardens and patio are filled with roses, and lush foliage. A great place to meditate in the morning. I can't wait to go back for another visit.

Our experience at Rose Cottage was better than great! Firstly, Sally is the friend you want when traveling! Her suggestions on places to visit, along with loaning maps, places to dine (with up to date menus to help) made our visit fantastic. She even loaned me her winter coat and scarf (to cope with the snow on Mt Hood!). Other reviewers have mentioned her fabulous breakfasts; and I will concur! We went home with a wonderful recipe for scones which I can't wait to try! The accomodations were beautiful, sparkling clean and complete with anything we needed for a relaxed and happy stay. The bed was so comfortable - something you don't often find. She even made sure we had a nutritious packed breakfast to accompany us on day of departure, as we needed to leave very early and wouldn't be able to have a traditional breakfast. We would definitely stay at Rose Cottage again. (Her flowers are beautiful as well!).

There were so many "BEST"s about Rose Cottage it's hard to know where to start. Let me begin with the zippy trip to down town areas. Hardly 10 min away from Powell's (dntn Portland), this private getaway was as beautiful as it was handy. Now to Sally's amazing breakfasts! The quality and care applied to planning and prepping the all Organic meals was impressive. The ginger scones were direct from Heaven on High. Her concierge-like service to help us locate JUST the right restaurant, I've not experienced before--Kenny and Zuke's on Stark was just the right delicatessen food we were hankering for. The double jetted tub hit the spot after a tramp up and down the hill to the Japanese garden and the sitting room AND sun room made our spacious room seem like an apartment. Sally and Austin were the best hostess and canine team we've met. Do go to this Portland oasis-- you will be so happy you did. Discounts for a two night stay and an over 60 discount much appreciated. The Wild Rose Suite was spectacular in every way. Meticulously clean with plenty of room to stow away necessities, a fabulously comfortable king-sized bed, and a large luxury bathroom. Sally is a most gracious host, and her lavish breakfasts became the highlight of my day. Her love of cooking shows in every detail. We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to enjoy our vacation.

Sally is very strong on TLC. We felt very well-looked-after. The apartment we stayed in was pristine, with the worlds most comfortable bed!

Staying at the Rose Cottage B & B in Portland, Oregon was a true joy. We recently stayed at the Rose Cottage B&B from May 2, 2009 to May 4, 2009. We were greeted most warmly by Innkeeper, Sally Palmer. She gave us a tour of our suite, "The Wild Rose." Upon entering the suite we were in instant awe. The exquisite modern decor, amenities (sitting area with fireplace, TV and service area) and impeccable houskeeping were most obvious. We felt extremly comfortable and at home in this top notch, spacious B&B. We were even more impressed the next morning with the plentiful, 4-course gourmet, delicious breakfast that Sally served using only the freshest ingredients. It is most evident that Sally takes great pride and loves serving those fortunate enough to stay at her B&B. She was most helpful in suggesting restaurants and local areas of interest. Without hesitation, she willing accommodated breakfast due to our very early departure. We stayed for two wonderful weeks in Portland in September 2008 and enjoyed what Oregon has to offer. But even better than the beautiful Oregon Coast was Sally's Rose Cottage! Rose Cottage is run by a wonderful lady who is the perfect hostess. The breakfasts were delightful and varied, and the rooms and location were great. We were expecting to cab it to various spots when needed, but that was not necessary as the excellent public transportation (bus to trains) runs right near by. Our experience in Portland couldn't have been better, and Sally (the hostess) is a dog person, which makes it perfect for us.

We recently stayed at Sally Palmer's lovely Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Portland and cannot recommend it highly enough. Inside, the private rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean; outside, the grounds and seating areas are private, lush and inviting. And best of all, the breakfasts are outstanding! We really appreciated the priority that Sally places on local, fresh, organic ingredients, plus she is a fabulous cook. We look forward to returning to Rose Cottage and enjoying the charm, beauty and great value again.

Our stay at Rose Cottage in July 2008 was completely delightful. Sally's gourmet breakfasts were lavish and delicious. Our rooms--the Rose Suite--were large, bright, and tastefully decorated, as well as absolutely spotless. The bed was comfortable, the linens soft, and the towels fluffy. We appreciated the small refrigerator, microwave and dishes provided (especially after our innkeeper made restaurant reservations for us, since we could bring back leftovers and dessert). The building is tucked away in a cul-de-sac at the edge of the city--it was challenging to find at first--yet it doesn't take long to drive into downtown Portland, and as a light sleeper, I truly loved the quiet setting. There's plenty of room for parking. (Sports car fans, take note: there's a Lotus dealership around the corner.) Sally was very helpful, always ready to share suggestions, driving instructions, maps and visitors' guides. Our only regrets are that we didn't have time to use the suite's huge whirlpool tub, and that we couldn't stay even longer. I would certainly stay here again, and recommend it to anyone visiting the Portland area.

We stayed at Rose Cottage in August 2008. The suburban location is unremarkable, but it is only a 10-minute drive to downtown Portland. The house is new and was built as a B&B with two 2-room apartments separated from the main house by a breezeway. The apartments are roomy, scrupulously clean, with a great shower, and fully equipped, including a small kitchenette. Sally the proprietor is an experienced B&B host, with an intimate knowledge of Portland. Don't plan on an early start. Breakfast "starts" at 8:30, but will take an hour. It is well-spent time, however, since Sally will regale you with facts, recommendations, and stories while she is preparing a fabulous, heavily local food gourmet breakfast. We got a little impatient with the process, it really was worth the time involved. Very highly recommended.

We couldn't ask for a more gracious and friendly host than Sally. Our accomodations were comfortable and very clean. And Sally's breakfasts are the best! This is a perfect place to stay while visiting Portland.

We have stayed at the Rose Cottage three times and are returning this October. This is the perfect place to relax and be pampered. Sally has attended to every detail. The suite is beautiful, spacious and expertly decorated. Sally is a fabulous chef and the breakfasts are amazing. We always look forward to beginnng our day with a creative and tasty breakfast and interesting conversation with Sally. The location is perfect for going in any direction, and we have been able to see so many things that we wouldn't know about if Sally hadn't told us about them. She knows about all of the hidden gems as well as the regular tourist spots in Portland. We would not consider staying anywhere else when in Portland. We were pleasantly surprised by the Rose Cottage. It is centrally located to the Portland area. Our room was immaculately clean and the innkeeper was warm and friendly with an in depth knowledge of Oregon. We had a daily gourmet organic breakfast and she was helpful with suggestions as to restaurants and places of interest. We highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast experience.

Our stays have all been relaxing and stress-free. We stay at Rose Cottage whenever we are in Portland because it is close to everything in town and also close to the Oregon wine country. We love driving out to the coast for a day.
