From the moment you walk into the door, you will be wowed. The rooms are beautiful. The dining was delicious. It is relaxing and a perfect way to wind down. The area is great to walk about and enjoy the local designs. You are in a quiet area of town but within minutes you are out and about in the down town area. We had a great experience.

The Portland White House is a beautiful residence, made even better by it hosts. We were made to feel welcome and the cookies are to die for.

We spent over a week at this wonderful bed and breakfast. Lanning is a marvelous host, breakfasts were fabulous and the home is beautiful. The restoration of the home is amazing. You will be glad you choose this bed and breakfast.

Portlands White House is a beautiful b&b, Lanning and his staff create a wonderful and welcoming atmosphere. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and delicious. We were very satisfied with our stay, loved everything!

We stayed two different Saturday's at the White House, in two different rooms. Both were beautifully furnished. Large bathrooms. And most importantly, very comfortable beds. The team was very friendly and accommodating - and made you feel welcome. And the breakfast was delicious.

The Innkeepers were professional and very hospitable. This lovely large bed and breakfast is a treat to explore and enjoy in all seasons. The breakfasts are outstanding. Bravo Bravo
Thank you so much for taking the time to give Portland's White House Inn this fabulous rating!!!! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here and hope to welcome you back soon!

I've stayed at many a B&B, but this one had to be the best one by far. Amazing home and history. Wonderful owner and awesome breakfast. The antiques in this place were gorgeous, not to mention the priceless Tiffany windows that should be in a museum. Can't wait to return again and again.

After getting married at Portland's White House in Jan 2013, we returned on our 1 year anniversary to celebrate in Jan 2014! We had a wonderful stay and everything was perfect as we expected. Thanks for a lovely stay at such a special place!
It was so great to welcome our honeymooners back to Portland's White House Inn. A year went by so quickly! Hope to see you next year!!!!

my daughter and i loved the beautifully well kept house which is on a quiet street in a neighborhood of filled with gorgeous old, historic homes. the breakfasts were delicious. myra's warmth and friendliness made our stay really feel like home away from home. she picked us up at the train stop on arrival and drove us to the train station when we left. i didn't mean to test her hospitality but because i forgot a backpack back at the b&b, she happily picked it up and returned it to me at the train station. if i'm in portland again, this is where i'll stay. david skoke

Good service, wonderful breakfast, only complaint is that the bed was a tad harder then our preference but nice bedding and pillows.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were pleasantly surprised that they were able to accomodate our vegan diet. I was expecting them to give us some fruit and tea but was surpised when they not only brought over fruit, but a full-on breakfast of country potatoes and a breakfast sausage. All vegan of course. We also enjoyed how quiet the room was, we couldn't hear the other guests very much. The only time we heard another guest was when one of them decided to play the grand piano downstairs, which was a really nice sound to awaken to. The bed was amazing too, it was like a cloud. We stayed in the canopy room, don't know if the rest of the beds are this amazing.

Lovely very clean room, comfy cozy bed, great ambiance. We were upgraded to the Canopy Room which was a most appreciated compliment for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. ( A bottle of champagne/sparkling wine would have been an extra nice touch to celebrate. It was no doubt an oversight.) Nice breakfast. Elegant period decor.

I recently stayed in the Balcony Room at this bed & breakfast and had a wonderful experience. It's a beautiful building in a very convenient location. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The staff were perfectly friendly and were able to help with everything I needed. And the food....well, it was awesome! I will be looking for an opportunity to visit Portland again so I can try out some of the other cute rooms they have. I will recommend this place to all of my friends and family.

I was at the Portland White House for only one night, but I wish it could have been more! (I did get a chance to survey the owner's collections of porcelains and other interesting art objects.) Teresa was very helpful, and even provided cookies for my grandchildren as I was leaving. All in all, I had a very nice visit.
5 on December 02, 2013
My husband and I got a babysitter and stayed here for a night as a get-away treat. Everything was fabulous. Easy to book, photos true to the room, lovely cookies, chocolates and wine available in our room and a beautiful, beautiful home. We got a courtesy call to let us know how to get into the house if the inn keeper was away and our envelope was right there. All so easy. We got an excellent recommendation for dinner that night and enjoyed being so close to some great neighborhoods to just roam around and enjoy. Breakfast was wonderful and just the right amount. I always love staying in B&Bs that give you an opportunity to sit and talk to other travelers with great stories and recommendations. The large breakfast table leant itself to exactly this scenario. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends.
5 on November 25, 2013
Off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood with free parking. What else can you ask for. Oh yes, a beautiful place to kick back. We've stayed in many locations in downtown Portland, but this is across the river with a family feel and wonderful staff. We will be back again and again.
5 on November 24, 2013
We stayed at the White House and it was absolutely wonderful. It is a beautiful house and the breakfast was exceptionally good. Ever facet of our stay was perfect. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast and we are looking forward to staying here again.
4.6 on November 16, 2013
An históric and opulent house; great garden patios and conservatory, a quiet neighbourhood within easy reach of everything. The food and cooking there outstanding (Sean and Teresa, thank you). The review numbers here are strictly about the room being a bit bound by the historicness of the house. One or two of them could be called 'cozy' in size. Beds enormously high, too high. Breakfast around a single table with everyone is not my favourite choice but the table is big enough it seems to allow for quests to sit quietly away at one end if that is the preference if your timing in the morning works out. All in all though, would go back.
5 on November 14, 2013
I was lucky enough to be part of a dinner party event at the White House and chose to stay 2 nights in addition to the party. The house itself is beautiful, the meals wonderfully prepared with local ingredients. The staff went out of their way to be attentive to every need. The location is perfect in a quiet neighborhood but handy to bus and rail service so if you don't have a car it's still possible to enjoy this site. I look forward to visiting again.

When we arrived, Maira ushered us in, gave us a quick tour of the house and made sure we had everything we would need for our stay...of course, the fresh baked cookies other reviewers have raved about were delicious. We stayed in the Baron's room; the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and I appreciated the windows on two walls in order to get a cross-breeze. This is an old heritage building. If you are used to modern amenities, this may not be your choice of stay. But, if you want gracious, attentive service, a delicious breakfast, and an enjoyable visit with the lovely Maira & Theresa, then I highly recommend a stay. One suggestion for the owner: write or acquire a book/pamphlet about the history of the home & the area.
5 on November 07, 2013
This is a wonderful B&B in a lovely restored mansion. The owner and managers are friendly, warm, welcoming, and run things efficiently. The breakfast is a sit-down (rather than serve-yourself European style, which is common at many B&Bs) and outstanding. We have been here 5 or 6 times and it is our preferred place when we visit Portland from San Diego.

Stayed in the lovely rose room. When I made the reservation I mentioned that I was allergic to down. The management made sure that the down bedding was removed. This made for a very enjoyable stay.

Portland's White House is a lovely place to stay while in Portland. It's a bit like staying in a museum but with friendly folks, lovely beds, and delicious breakfasts.

We stayed three nights in September. The neighborhood was very clean and safe, taking a walk was very enjoyable. Good local merchant neighborhood a couple blocks away. The hosts were very fun and talented. The service and especially the food was incredible! Imagine- waffles and fried chicken for breakfast! They accommodated my gluten allergy very well. We loved it! Stayed in the rose room, very quiet and comfortable.

Before booking our reservation, we inquired about the different rooms and mentioned that we prefer quite. We we told all the rooms are quiet and chose the Balcony room. It is probably the least quiet room. It is situated over the front door, so we heard everyone going in and out. The room is nearest to the fountain in the front yard, so we heard water running day and night. It is also the only room that has a third floor apartment over it (for someone who lives onsight) so we could hear people walking around above us. We could hear the people in the next room, which is probably a problem with all the rooms. Maintenance was not great. The light bulb over our mirror needed replaced and it never was. The bathroom sink drained poorly and we ran out of Kleenex. They do not keep extra supplies in the room, so you have to search around for someone to help you. The innkeepers were nice and the food was good; we would not stay here again, though.

What a wonderful and charming place at Portland's White House. Everything was just perfect for our visit to Portland. All of the staff went out of their way to make our stay the best ever. Great food, great atmosphere and friendly faces throughout. We will definitely be back in the future and recommend to anyone to stay at this beautiful B&B!

What a friendly, customer focused place. Our room was just as the pictures on their website and the social space was relaxing and friendly. When we arrived in the early afternoon, I commented that my wife had not eaten lunch and before you knew it our hostess had brought her a bowl of soup and some cheese and crackers. Would definitely stay again.

We had told the owner we would arrive at 5:00. He was not at the front door at 5:00, did not answer the doorbell, it was raining hard outside and so other guests invited us in the front door. When the owner arrived, he scolded us for 5 minutes about gaining entrance without him and said he would be talking to the guests who were kind enough to let us in out of the rain. While I understand the place has been robbed, I did not appreciate being scolded like a child. Room was lovely and breakfast was divine but I don't think we will return.

The property is lovely. We staying in the Chauffeur's Quarters and thus avoided all but two steps. Lots of towels and amenities, lovely homelike furnishings. Breakfast was extremely good all three mornings. Would like to see a doormat to keep the carpet clean.

We had a great time in Portland. Our stay at the Portland Whitehouse was great. The service was super - as were the breakfasts. Very well located - ie: near the transit (MAX) system - and very quiet. Our (my) only complaint was that my side of the bed squeaked - and it was not a weight thing as it squeaked for my lighter-weighted wife as well.
5 on September 22, 2013
If you go to Portland, Portland's White House is a "must" for you!! Everything was exceptional from the hosts, to the room, to the beautiful surroundings to the cookies in the room - everything to make the guests feel special. And, the breakfast was to die for!! The best 2 days I have spent in a long time. I would highly recommend this wonderful B&B to anyone looking for a memorable experience!

What a fabulous way to end our first time trip to Oregon. Our room (Blarney in the Carriage House) was quaint and the bed really comfy. Chocolates and homemade cookies from the kitchen were waiting for us. We stayed two nights, which meant we got to ENJOY two morning breakfasts. Words cannot even describe the delicious food prepared for us. Lanning and his welcoming staff were just what we needed for our last two days in the beautiful state of Oregon.

I had some reservations being my first trip to Oregon based on other posh locations. It is a marvelous historic mansion in an old neighborhood. A classic really. If you like antiques, old mansions, gardens, pianos and candlelight breakfast then this is the place. The owner is delightful to talk to and has many interesting stories especially the reconstruction of the house. What B&Bs are all about. Gary & Lynda

We had a delightful stay in the Portland Withe House. We visit Portland often and this was the first time we decided to stay in a B&B, we made a terrific choice. The location is very good in a nice quiet neighborhood in NE Portland near shopping and restaurants - but you certainly don't need to look for a place for breakfast (or lunch for that matter), the breakfast each morning was different (only in what we were served). Each morning was as good or better than the previous, we were there for 4 of these mouthwatering and tasty meals. Our room was lovely and looked out over the backyard and into lush greenery. We are looking forward to our next visit to the exquisite B & B. It is truly Outstanding.

What a beautiful place Portland's White House was! Even though it is in the Western Oregon coast, felt like a little touch of Savannah with the mansion charm, and the hospitality from all the staff. Truly a wonderful experience, we will be sure to return next time our travels take us to the west coast!
5 on September 13, 2013
I loved, loved, loved it. It is even more beautiful than it looks on the website. My room was beautiful, comfortable and all I could have hoped for. The staff was very courteous and the food delicious. If you are ever in Portland - or live in Portland - I highly recommend a stay at the Portland White House. By the way - those cookies left in the room are spectacular! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Stayed at the Portland White House B&B for one night while in Portland. We were so impressed with the stately home, magnificent decor, and service. It is obvious that attention to detail is a priority. Lanning, the owner, went out of his way to help us with our late arrival. This B&B is truly a gem.

My husband and I stayed here for our 5-yr wedding anniversary. We were in the Canopy Room, and loved how grand the room felt, from the massive canopy bed to the fun chandelier and the jetted tub in the bathroom. The house was really quiet and the staff was helpful but also gave us privacy. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and very creative, and the company from the other lodgers was very pleasant. Even after we checked out, the owners were happy to mail me an item I left behind. Overall it was a really nice experience!!!

This home is large and luxurious. Most rooms have private baths. The common areas are riddled with old trinkets, antiques, art and curious corners that invite inquiry. There are a couple of patios in back, a nice front yard and an imposing entry. The center stair way invokes a feeling of Gone with the Wind... and "Frankly I don't give a damn". The balcony room (where we stayed) has a curved balcony under the portico with flags flying and thick roman columns supporting the whole thing. If you have a dream.... and want to shout to the huddled masses below then this could be a place to play out your fantasy. "Don't cry for me Argentina"... let my people go.... We have hope... keep the faith... stay calm and carry on....:)

We stayed in the Blarney Room which was the least expensive but a little too small for comfort so I would recommend treating yourself to a larger room which were elegant and spacious. The breakfasts were the most amazing we've ever had anywhere! The inn itself is gorgeous. The residential location quiet. Easy parking on the street,

A wonderful stay at a grand lady of a Bed & Breakfast. This place oozes charm of another era. The food was outstanding as was the service. The room was a tad small, but of course in the day it was built this was the norm. The setting is a quiet neighborhood of magnificent homes and gigantic tree-lined streets. We will definitely return. We had a wonderful stay at Portland's White House! We were only there for one night, but we'll gladly return the next time we're in the area. Our room was very clean and the welcome cookies were delicious. The staff was very nice and helpful with questions about the Portland area. The towels were a bit scratchy, but that seems to be common in the hotel/B&B industry these days. The other guests were a delight to speak with and home locations spanned the globe. The best part was Breakfast. It was the best B&B meal I've ever had and it was one of our top meals of the entire weeklong trip. The bread pudding French toast was awesome and I don't even like bread pudding. The berries were delightful and fresh from the local market. The cream was wonderful and my wife says the coffee was great too. The meal alone made the stay worthwhile, but the history of the house, our hosts, and the comfortable rooms/beds make this place a repeat destination.

Our stay at the whitehouse was fantastic- great breakfast, clean room, fresh baked cookies and chocolates waiting for us. We also loved the porch/sitting area. When we were tired one night we just got take-out and lounged here with books for a few hours- very quiet neighborhood but convenient!

We started our honeymoon in style at Portland's White House. It's a beautiful setting and great people running it. Everything about this place is top notch; from the grounds, to the decor, to the food. I love being on vacation and feeling like a local and this place was perfect for that.

4.2 on August 12, 2013
We stayed at Portland's White House on the first night of our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house itself is incredibly beautiful and unique! We stayed in the Blarney Room in the carriage house (not in the main house) and the room was small but well appointed with a private bathroom, tv, and a four-poster queen bed. Great shower too! The B&B is in a beautiful neighborhood directly on a bus line to downtown (about 10-15 minutes away by bus, less by car). Breakfast in the candle-lit dining room was a highlight: the food was excellent and the staff (and other guests) were very friendly.

They outdid themselves with breakfast!! Cute neighborhood to walk/run through. Though not really walkable to many places.
4.2 on August 06, 2013
We stayed 2 nights in the Chauffeur's Quarters. Highlights were the breakfasts, the great neighborhood, and overall classy and comfortable atmosphere. We could've used a few more drawers, a bathtub that drained properly, and a little bit more privacy (2 not-so-soundproof rooms above us). If we're ever back in Portland, we will definitely stay here again!

This B & B was outstanding from the time we arrived until the minute we left. We stayed in the Blarney room which is located in the coach house. It is a small room but very functional. The bed and pillows are comfortable. The only negative is the bathroom is a bit small and there was not any room to store our toiletries. The food was amazing. I had been waiting all day for the cookies and chocolates other reviewers had raved about. I was not disappointed. The cookies were delicious and so were the chocolates. I unfortunately could not get the recipe from the owner since he keeps it top secret. The breakfast in the morning was also very good. There was freshly squeezed orange juice, soufflé with fresh fruit, banana bread and all the coffee or tea you could drink. The food at this B & B made my day. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. He provided helpful recommendations on where to eat. He was also available when needed. The location of this B & B is a 12 minute easy ride to downtown. It is located in the historic district of Portland. We went for a walk in the neighborhood and the homes were beautiful in architecture and landscaping. I would not hesitate to stay here again. This is the best B & B we have stayed at since the price is very reasonable for all the amenities you get, the food is outstanding and the location is very convenient to downtown.

We only stayed one night at the Portland White House but the time we spent there was enjoyable. Our room was quite cozy. The highlight was the delicious breakfast - delectable waffles topped with heaps of fresh Oregon berries, fresh orange juice, and excellent coffee. It was the perfect meal to see us on our way. The B&B is conveniently located in the Northeast area, close to public transit and numerous restaurants. I would certainly stay here in again.

This is the third time we have been to The White House. We can't wait for our fourth visit! We always enjoy meeting other visitors at breakfast.

This was our second stay at Portland's White House Bed & Breakfast. Our first being 12 years ago. The house, grounds, rooms and staff are every bit as well appointed and charming, and the food as delicious as it was 12 years ago. My wife and I loved being able to walk to nearby local restaurants and shops, through this historic neighborhood. We especially enjoyed a wonderful yarn shop just two blocks away that serves tea, snacks and wonderfully unpretentious knowledgeable service. If there is a more elegant, well run and located B&B in Portland I don't know of it.

After staying at Portland’s White House, I’m going to be disappointed with anything less. I stayed in the carriage house where the rooms are smaller, but delightful and the value is outstanding. But what won me over was the personal service and amazing breakfasts, served with candlelight in an elegant dining room fit for a property called the White House. When I asked for a late arrival, they easily accommodated me and even gave me a call to make sure I had arrived safely. I can’t say enough. It would be a wonderful venue for a wedding or other important celebration.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants a comfy stay in a great area of portland!

This BB is located in Portland, Oregon, although its only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.. You would never know that until you leave the area.. The rooms are awesome, provide you a sense of tranquility. My stay was short due to other obligations unforeseen at the time, but i will definitely book again, this is my new found place away from home..

We weren't sure what to expect and found the hosts and staff ready to please. The location was great; blocks away from shops, restaurants and coffee houses. It was about a 15 minute walk to the MAX line into Portland. Breakfasts were delicious and conversation over coffee communal.

Out of the hustle and bustle of the city, a wonderful place to stay. Owners friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

The house is large enough to be considered an exclusive small hotel. Situated in a great neighborhood that is fund to walk in. Breakfast was excellent. We had one evening when the weather was perfect and we sat out on the patio and drank wine, great fun. Peter

We had such a nice, comfortable time in June. No problems getting taxis back into the city. The breakfast was so large we didn't need lunch! Fantastic (and large) cookies left in the room on arrival. Though the breakfast table was full, we never heard another guest. Really lovely neighborhood just a couple blocks away from the "action" of every day life. But very quiet. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I were married last year at Portland's White House, and returned this year to celebrate our first anniversary. Last year we filled every room with family from all over the country and everyone felt at home. This year the same warm ambiance embraced us with a variety of strangers and everyone loved it. The breakfasts are beautiful and delicious, and the event catering devine. Every room feels special. The entire manor is spotlessly elegant and welcoming. The staff presents a perfect blend of camaraderie and respect. The location is surprisingly close to downtown so you can easily drive to business centers, or just stroll a few blocks to local boutique shopping. I've stayed at many B&B's, and this one tops the list for quality and value.

We stayed in the Chauffeur's Quarters -- a lovely room in the adjacent building to the Whie House. It was clean with plenty of light. As an older place, the walls were not particularly thick, but, thankfully, all of the rest of the guests were quiet and this was not an issue. I had given the White House a heads up about food allergies and they had a safe, delicious breakfast waiting for us. We absolutely loved staying in the Irvington neighborhood where the White House is located. We'll be back!

The room was beyond comfortable, and the bed -- higher off the ground than any mattress i've ever slept in -- was fabulous. The breakfast was top-notch, and the chef came out to make sure we were taken care of. Two little nitpicks -- would have loved help with my luggage up the narrow staircase. And management was there on check in but couldn't find a human anywhere when it was time to check out, so I left my keys in my room with the door open.

The rooms and inn itself are absolutely lovely. We stayed in the Baron's room, which was spacious and appointed with gorgeous antiques. The location is very convenient.

We arrived one day early without a reservation for the unexpected night. Our gracious host Lanning upgraded our room for both nights of our stay to the Balcony room! We loved the little balcony and the double shower heads in the bathroom. The room was beautiful as was the entire home, which was luxuriously decorated. Lanning and Teresa were the perfect hosts, they made us feel like part of the family. The breakfasts were fabulous and the homemade cookies and lattes were delicious! I would definitely recommend The Portland White House to anyone visiting Portland. I know where I'm staying the next time I'm in town!

We received a gift certificate to stay at the White House and we are glad we had the chance to experience this quaint b&b. After walking around Portland all day it was nice to come back to a cozy bed. We have to say that our favorite part, besides our stay, was the excellent food. The macaroons, the oatmeal cookies, the French toast - all the best my wife have ever had - by far. Kudos to the owners and chefs there, they really do a great job!

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. The breakfasts were fantastic. We stayed for six nights and every morning we had something different. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The location is excellent and the house is well furnished and kept up. Our room was very comfortable. Can't wait to go back!

Our room was beautiful..we poked around and found the other rooms were just as lovely. I loved the place so much I didn't want to go sightseeing. I could have spent the whole time inside. The breakfasts were delicous and beautifully plated. The owners were amazing, gracious and lovely to visit with...they made you feel special. I seriously will be back just to stay there again. Everything was original and not gutted like most B&B....you know, the outside looks old and the inside is modern. You must stay here!! Denise DeCarlo-Los Angeles California

With a B & B you want more than a place to just stay. You expect a well run, clean Inn. It is the extras that make it special. The White House has it all. Excellent location in a fabulous neighborhood for early morning walks; unbelievable breakfast that makes lunch unnecessary; and an owner with a personality. Also, the price must be a mistake as it is so reasonable.

Jack and I celebrated our wedding weekend at the Portland's White House and Lanning and Teresa made this an unforgettable experience for us and our guests. The food was fabulous and the rooms were exceptional. Everyone felt like they were at home as Lanning was so welcoming. Beautiful house - perfect place for a wedding or any special event. I could go on and on but everyone should check it out for themselves - exceptional service - marvelous food.!

Portland's White House is an incredible place. The imposing exterior is just the beginning. The inside is filled with amazing antiques that somehow all fit to for a comfortable, luxurious experience. Our reoom was very clean and nicely furnished, very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We plan to be back!

My wife and I visited the B&B on our way to the Oregon coast. It was a great spot to get the flavor of Portland. The location allowed us to easly access to Protland Metro to explore downtown. The cookies in our room upon arrival were delighful. Breakfast was also wonderful. All in all a great place to stay and we will visit again.

My wife arrived on our first visit to Oregon, the same week that the management staff was undergoing significant upheval. We wouldn't have been able to tell except that the new manager told us so. The rooms are wonderful, and the entire B7B is like walking through a museum of ancient antiquities. The owner, a renowned Restauranteur, prepared a superb breakfast for us on our last dat. This was a truly memorable stay.

PDX's White House is beautiful. The staff was wonderful. Breakfast was tasty. All B&Bs take on the feel the house, the staff, and location. The White House is no exception. The house has a classical look from the outside, Victorian charm and beauty on the inside, and the overall feel of Portland about it. It was the PDX feel that I found to be slightly unexpected, but also quite endearing and honest. The neighborhood is wonderful for walking or driving - TONS of fun old homes. PWH is close to plenty of dining and nightlife. We, however, preferred our room to the nightlife. Lots of fun and a good get away from the small-town life. :)
5 on March 12, 2013
My wife and I had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and were very impressed. The Portland White House will be a hard act to follow. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The breakfast was "incredible" served with all of trappings of a fine restaurant and "oh" did I mention the house "spectacular". We felt like we were aristocrats staying in a stately mansion at the turn of the century. This will be our spot when traveling to Portland for future visits.....we're hook on B & B's.

Had a wonderful surprise with our two night stay at the "White House." Lanning is not only the owner, but also chef extraordinaire and supreme barista! We loved the breakfasts and the special coffees he made for my partner. He has a way of making everyone feel special, even the quiet reclusive types such as us who don't frequent B&Bs often. Loved the historic neighborhood, the access to Broadway St shops and restaurants, access to the city and to Vancouver Washington. We won't be staying anywhere else next time we are in Portland. The White House was the perfect start to our visit to Oregon and drive down the Oregon coast to California. The location allowed easy access to all parts of downtown via the Tri Met. We had dinner a Mamma Mia's which, because of the service, was excellent. Breakfast at the White House was also memorable. We would recommend this experience to anyone, especially the out of this world cookies provided on arrival. Bravo Lannis!

Wow, what a fantastic place, the value and service are truly outstanding. We stay one night at the Portland White House. It was our first night as Husband and Wife. They made sure the reservations were clear, they followed up with instructions about our Late Check in. It was easy to find. We needed an early check out so we could catch out flight to Kauai, they prepared a full Hot! breakfast for us to go. The food was outstanding. I would Highly! recommend anyone who is looking for a great bed and breakfast in Portland, it is a must to stay at the Portland White House. On a side note, I almost never ever give full stars on a survey, but I could not help but give these folks and their beautiful Bed and Breakfast a full rating.

We're not a big fan of B&B's, but in Nov. we wanted to spend a week in Portland and didn't want to pay the outlandish parking fees downtown, and hassle with the in and out of that type of parking, so I looked into various other options. We had a perfect visit for that trip, and just stayed another 2 nights in the same room, the Chauffer's quarters. It's a lovely room, my only complaint is the bathroom fan! I mentioned this when we checked out the first time, and it doesn't seem any better. It's on the bathroom light switch, so any time you're putting make up on, or brushing your teeth, it drones on so loudly it's just awful. And since part of the the charm of these lovely old rooms is the vintage baths, forget about enjoying a romantic soak in the tub with wine, we had to bring a bedside lamp into the bathroom to hear ourselves think. We'll definately stay again, Teresa the gracious hostess is a doll, but maybe we have to bring our own "bathroom lamp!" The food is fantastic, wish it was served till 10 am. I would recommend this charming and beautiful B&B to anyone who enjoys the finer things in life. The neighborhood is fantastic too, a must see for anyone browsing Portland.

If you are looking for the perfect intimate wedding venue, or just a romantic night or weekend away, look no further!! From the first meeting with owner Lanning, we were treated like distinguished guests and old friends. He made every effort to ensure our comfort and spent almost an hour with us discussing options for our event and touring us through his absolutely gorgeous Bed and Breakfast. We fell in love with the beauty and grandeur of the home, it's furnishings and the elegant and luxurious guest rooms. Our wedding day was in two words, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!! Everything looked stunning. Our guests checked in and were extremely impressed with their rooms and with the courtesy and attention they received from Lanning and the staff. The bottom of the staircase was the perfect space for our ceremony, and our photographer said it was perfect for pictures. After the ceremony, the staff again was extremely helpful in quickly serving our guests drinks and several different delicious hor d'oeuvres. The reception was beyond delicious with a gorgeous presentation and oh so gourmet and scrumptious!! Also for the toast, the champagne Lanning served was top notch. The ballroom space was perfect for dinner, and after the cake in the dining room, the ballroom became the perfect space for dancing and celebrating! At the end of the night we retired to our GORGEOUS and luxurious guest room, enjoyed the jacuzzi and had the best night's sleep in the super comfortable king sized canopy bed. Breakfast the next morning was right on time and was once again, beyond delicious! I could go on and on, but bottom line is our wedding day was exactly as we had hoped it would be, went completely smoothly without a hitch and will forever be remembered as PERFECT. We owe so much to Lanning for his making our day such a huge success. And we have decided to come back to the White House at least once a year!

Beautiful B&B with an excellent location near the west side of Portland. Great staff, welcoming atmosphere, and top-tier staff. The only complaint was the Wi-Fi was sporadic in the Canopy room. Other than that it was a great stay and we will come back again.

The White House was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays, and perfect for people who love historic homes. They upgraded our room to the Rose room as it was available, which was very comfortable with lots of space. The cookies on arrival were delicious and just what we needed around tea time. The fresh squeezed juice, eggs benedict, fresh fruit, and pastries the next morning were perfect too. The neighborhood is close to many things, and we suggest going for a morning walk to see the other houses in the area and visit the sculptures of Beverly Cleary's book characters in nearby Grant Park. This is a great idea for a weekend getaway -- we appreciated that it allowed booking for one night, easy street parking, and a reasonable price for an amazing experience.

The staff are so warm and friendly. The house is magnificent. Our room was cozy and comfortable. And to top it off, bedtime cookies were delivered to our door. I think our new hobby will be to stay at least once in every room over the next few years. We have stayed here twice and each time was perfect.

We were in town for work for two days. Very relaxing to stay here - super fun. My only criticism might be the weak coffee and high-carb breakfast. I recognize that I eat on the fringe of the protein-fat-caffeine spectrum. Paleo with coffee! All in all a great place and WE WILL BE BACK!

My wife and I and another couple recently spent four nights at Portland's White House B&B. Wow. We've B&Bed in Europe, the UK and the United States, and the White House is right up there with the best. The Innkeeper, Teresa, and her staff were all you could want. Pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The house is beautifully restored. The rooms are spacious. The beds and cookies at night are a slice of paradise. Did I mention the cookies? And Teresa knows her way around a kitchen. Breakfast with a capital B. The house is in a great neighborhood and the location is easy to get around in. Oh, and the cookies.... Would I stay there again? Is Salem the capitol? Have you tried the cookies? I would live there if I could. ...and I will stay there again. Chas Zehner

We stayed here because the yelp reviews said how "amazing" the food was. Also their web-site said they had an espresso machine. First let me say how beautiful this place is!!!! It's breath taking. the room was clean and the cookies you get in your room were also amazing!!! Right when you get there the lady asks you what time you want to eat breakfast?? (I've been to many B&B's and they serve you when ever you wake up) So then we had to set an alarm because we were out late and we picked the latest time which is 9!! (Not very accommodating for $200 a night plus tax) We couldn't wait to eat breakfast since all the reviews were so good. We are vegetarian (another reason we chose this place) since it says on there web-site ALL the breakfasts were vegetarian (not the case). Breakfast #1 First course was a small stale store bought croissant then the main course was a poorly made waffle with a crap load of whip cream and fruit on top. So we barley ate our food and then when I asked for an espresso they said "oh we don't have that." Breakfast #2 a little better with fresh fruit to start then the main course was English muffins with eggs and salsa and mushrooms on top with not cooked all the way shredded potatoes. All in all don't come here for the food just come here for the amazing location and beautiful rooms with nice beds. Also our room had 6 shower head which is another reason to charge so much but only about 4 1/2 of the heads worked. But that wasn't a big deal. Enjoy and try to go when its cheaper so you get your moneys worth.

Breakfast was fabulous (they even share the recipes). Our room was very comfortable, the bathroom modern and the antique furnishings were beautiful. Each evening there were the most delicious cookies waiting for us in our room. We will be staying here again the next time we are in Portland! Jon & Deb

I was directed to the Portland White House by my friend who was getting married. I chose the canopy room as a splurge. It was grand and luxurious yet comfortable. My favorite parts of the PWH experience were walking in the neighborhood to Broadway and beyond, the ambiance of the historical mansion and most notably, the four breakfasts I savored. Portland's White House truly goes above and beyond when it comes to artistic and culinary expression. The food and presentation of the meals will not be soon forgotten.

We stayed 3 nights at Portland's White House. We stayed in the Carolina Room which was a little small and without a desk, but it was beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed and pillows! The hosts are all very friendly. We got there three hours before check in and were planning on leaving our suitcases and going to grab lunch. But a banquet was just finishing up, and Kim asked us if she could put some plates together for us for lunch on the patio. What a great surprise! Yummy! The breakfasts were amazing! We were always so full that we never ate again until after 6 pm. There was an amazing quiche, crepes covered with fresh berries and wonderful baked eggs with canadian bacon and a tomatillo sauce, served on top of hash browns. Not to mention the scones and muffins. I had never had blueberries and raspberries on top of avacado - it was delicious. You are asked if you want any meat that may be served, so if you're vegetarian, it's not a problem. This B & B is 15 blocks from the TriMet light rail. You can catch the TriMet right at the airport and walk or there is a number 70 bus on Multnomah that would get you to within a few blocks of the B & B. A full day pass using all mass transit is $5.00 and you just get it at a machine in front of any of the TriMet stops. A great place to start off our time in Oregon!

I am so grateful that I stayed at the Whte House on my recent trip to Portland. I was in town for a conference and my collegues who stayed at hotels were jealous! I felt pampered every day - the breakfasts were outstanding. After the first day, I allowed myself 15 extra minutes for breakfast each morning just so I could take it slow and enjoy. It was so easy to unwind in the evenings on the back patio and enjoy the scrumptious homemade cookies left each night in my room. Lanning was gracious and helpful with all my needs - from lost luggage at the airport to restaurant reccommendations. I highly reccommend.

When we arrived at the White House, our jaws dropped because it is that beautiful from the outside. The inside was amazing as well. Clean, classy, but friendly. Just as a bnb should be. Breakfast was outstanding and the cookies that were left in our room each day were out of this world. Sometimes i wanted to ask a question and had difficulty finding someone who works there, but when I found them they were extremely helpful. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

We usually avoid B&B's because (a) my husband is tall and they normally only have rooms with queen beds and (b) I'm a light sleeper and historic homes usually have thin walls and creaky stairs, and I don't want to hear the breakfast prep early in the morning. Portland's White House is beautifully and solidly built, with 4 rooms that have king size beds, the most elegant and delicious breakfasts, and Lanning , Kim and Steve are skilled, fun, and gracious. Plus, it's in a beautiful neighborhood that was wonderful for walking. The room was comfortable, quiet, beautiful, and had every amenity we like. I plan to return.

My fiance and I enjoyed our stay at Portland's White House tremendously. When we arrived Kim met us at the door and was extremely friendly. She informed us that the room we reserved was unavailable but that she had a better one at no extra cost. The cookies and chocolates that were left in the room were so delicious we thought about asking for a couple more. Kim was very helpful with any questions we had regarding where we wanted to go in Portland. The breakfast was out of this world, i have no words to describe how tasty it all was along with the hospitality. We will definetly be staying there again and for a longer period of time. Thanks again! Tanya & Amber, New Westminster, BC

You will be floored by the elegance of this beautiful place. I have had the privilege to stay at many world class hotels, and this is a world class B abd B. rooms are gorgeous, and we were upgraded to the Canopy Room, although i looked at other rooms, and all were amazing (maybe our hot tub is what made it an "upgrade", not sure. The breakfasts were substantial and delicious. There was a box of gourmet chocolates in the room at checkin and homemade cookies every afternoon. If there is one place to improve, the couple that runs this wonderful place (different from the effervescent, friendly owner), who clearly work hard, caused a small ding in the overall experience. While HE was fabulous, bending over backwards for our smallest request, SHE came with a huge Chip on her shoulders as if any request ( ice?) was putting her out on an already busy day. We felt like scolded children. At check out she tackily reminded me that we had been upgraded, something we had not requested, as if she had done us a huge favor. There are always difficult personalities, and HER'S is one of those that should probably not be running a B and B, or perhaps simply not be the one to deal with guests. We highly recommend this place in general, but we did leave on a slightlt sour note, after a wonderful 2 days of seeing friends and family in Portland.

The property was everything and more that I had read about both on line and in the Unique Inns booklet. Our room was furnished nicely and well appointed. Our favorite part of our stay was breakfast and the personal attention each guest received.!!! Being from Florida, my husband and I were thrilled at the delicious fresh food - everything from the delicious berries to the savory egg dishes! We stayed for three fabulous nights and would return again as we know that a return trip to Oregon is in our future! We spent 14 days traveling the state and still did not see all of the beauty that it has to offer.

Great venue, furnishings and rooms. Breakfast was fantastic everday. Steve and Kim, the Inn Keepers, were fantastic. The cookies were to die for!!

I was down in Portland on business, but my treat to myself was to stay at the White House B&B... my first time and boy, was it incredible! I HIGHLY recommend staying there and should I go back to Portland – whether for business or pleasure, there is no question that I will definitely stay there again. Lanning, the owner, truly knows how to provide excellence in service. Steve and Kim, the Managers, were most accommodating and made you feel so welcomed. It was the little details that made it so enjoyable. They served full breakfasts that were out of this world - absolutely delicious and very creative! I especially enjoyed the daily home-baked cookies and decadent chocolates left in the room - a real treat to come home to... and, that is precisely how I felt... like it was my home. The house, itself, is lovingly appointed with all kinds of interesting artifacts and things to look at, not to mention it is situated in one of the highly sought-after areas of Portland. (The homes in the area are lovely older mansions, all exceptionally well kept up.) The neighborhood is primarily residential, yet very convenient to shopping and exploring Portland. The White House is truly a fabulous place to stay and play. - Pam Taylor, Seattle, WA

The White House is our new favorite place to stay when in Portland! We loved it's old world charm. Lanning and Steve were perfect hosts. The cookies to die for. Our vegetarian diet cheerfully accommodated at breakfast.

Visting Portland to see our daughter and son-in-law and wanted to be staying close by. Our daughter recommended Portland's White House. It had all we needed and sounded charming. We were delighted to find the room confortable, the hosts friendly and the breakfast delicious.

We new wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Canopy room. The service was great from the moment of check-in until we departed after breakfast. The breakfast was a large portion and was served quickly and tasted and looked as thoguh it was from a 5 star restaurant with a home cooked feel. The room was beautiful, and well decorated. The bathroom had a hint of a musty smell, which I attribute to the age of the building itself. Other than that, We would definitely stay at the Portland White House again.

Wow!!!!! This bed and breakfast was outstanding. The interior of the home is magnificent with an extensive collection of china and art work. The owners and innkeepers could not have been nicer or more generous with their time. Very comfortable and accommodating. I have traveled extensively and the White House is really a stand out. Will look back on my stay fondly and if I ever return to Portland I will surely stay again.

Warm and comfortable environment. Luxurious room. We also enjoyed sitting in large parlor. Delicious full breakfast, and special dietary needs were accommodated. Highly recommend.

Steve was very friendly and helpful. Even helped us take our things up to our room. The breakfast was amazing with more fresh berries than I could eat. They also let our daughter who we were visiting come have breakfast with us. We'll be back next time we come to Portland.

The managers, Kim and Steve, made my week-long stay a truly memorable experience. From the first greeting and introduction to the property, to the farewell hugs, I felt right at home in this elegant 1910 mansion. I highly recommend Portland's White House to anyone staying in the area who wants a "home-away-from-home" in a sublimely elegant setting.

An unexpected turn of events in our travel plans brought us to this little gem of a B&B and I am thrilled about it! Gorgeous, Victorian-style house in a really cool area of town, just minutes from tons of restaurants and bars. We were warmly greeted by Kim who showed us to our room and told us a little bit about the house. The room was a little bit smaller than what we are used to staying in, but it was so charming, the size of the room became easy to overlook. Homemade sweets awaited us nightly, and they were Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmmm good! We loved having breakfast each morning as well. I'm very picky when it comes to food, so when I say that these breakfasts were outstanding, that is a HUGE compliment. Absolutely delish!! The personalized service we got from Kim, Steve and Lanning was exceptional. I would definitely stay here again if we are in the Portland area and will recommend it to my friends. Just the perfect way to finish up our vacation.

The White House is full of period piece furniture and bric-a-brac which is definitely not our style but for a short stay it added interest to the B&B. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and the room clean and comfortable. The highlight of the experience was the breakfast of perfectly cooked eggs benny. Everyone does eggs benny now but these were very special. You can't go wrong staying at the White House.

Great stay, great location-a quiet neighborhood in walking distance to public transport and many shops, restaurants, and Grant Park. Great innkeepers- their attention to detail, friendly demeanor and delicious breakfasts and cookies in the room. Great rooms- comfortable beds, clawfoot tubs, wifi. Our stay definitely exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Lanning, Kim and Steve. You helped make the trip a memorable one.

Our visit to the Portland White House B & B was to celebrate our anniversary. We met each other in Portland while I was going to school. My husband lived in a house just a few blocks away from there, so it was fun to explore the neighborhood again. We really enjoyed the wonderful gormet breakfasts. We were there for 4 nights and enjoyed something different for breakfast every morning. We stayed in the rose room which was very comfortable. I loved the king sized, four post bed with the nice feather matress pad. The homemade cookies as well as the chocolates were special treats. The house is beautifully decorated. We enjoyed looking at all the antiques in the dining room, living room and game room. Thank you Kim and Steve for all your hard work. It was really a very delightful place to stay.

Our 3-night stay in the Canopy Room was wonderful. Kim and Steve (the managers) are wonderful hosts. They made us feel as if we were already close friends. The rooms were very clean, the food that Kim & Steve prepared was superb, and the entire B&B was a wonderful experience. They are both very gay friendly, so they made us feel at home. Our only two suggestions that would have made our stay better: 1. the WiFi signals in at least three of the upstairs rooms was terrible or non-existent. Two other guests told me that they also had to face a certain direction, go into the bathroom, or into the hallway to connect. This is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately to ensure that all rooms have a very strong signal. 2. The A/C vents need to have plastic or metal deflectors installed. The air blew directly on our faces all night. Other than those two issues, the PWH was one of the best places we've stayed at in years. Kim & Steve are definitely the best, friendliest, and caring managers we've ever met. I would highly recommend PWH. David

Portland's White House is a heavenly place that offers all the luxuries of the rich and famous.......(ok maybe not all, but walking the grand staircase was a special treat and the dining was with all the elloquence of luxury. The hosts were fantastic, accomodating, and take pride in their work. It was a joy and extremely reasonable.

We recently stayed two nights at Portland's White House. Do the pictures of this place look great? The real life experience is better than the fabulous pictures. The property and furnishings are first class. The service and hospitality as well as the food were excellent. The prices are a little high but you definitely get your moneys worth. I will be a repeat visitor.

It was our first visit to Portland and what better place than the White House for an intimate and elegant bed and breakfast experience? It's in a quiet and safe residential district close to Broadway, but also easy access to Downtown, the Japanese and Rhododendron Gardens, and the airport. Each morning was started by uniquely delicious breakfast and great conversation with fellow guests. For us, a memorable and comfortable stay. Mike & Diane McCarty Madison, WI

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a wedding held on site. The service was fabulous, the breakfasts will put you in a food coma (in a good way!). The rooms are beautiful. Prescott, the dog, stole my daughter's heart. All in all, this is a gem in the heart of Portland. If you want a quiet weekend, or a beautiful wedding site, I can't recommend The White House enough. There should be a 10 star rating! Love you Kim & Lanning! (can I get the recipe for that coffee & Kim's "secret" hot chocolate that she concocted for my daughter? :)

Four of us were traveling north from Napa along the west coast of Oregon. We decided to find a special bed and breakfast in Portland and discovered the White House. The hospitality we received from Lanning (the Owner) and Steve and Kim (Inn Keepers) was extraordinary. The House is a rare period mansion with beautiful Meissen porcelain and antique furniture. The history lesson and good humour of Lanning made our stay very memorable. Steve and Kim were wonderful hosts and the breakfast was gourmet. Probably the most interesting B&B we've ever seen.

It was so wonderful to go downstairs in the morning and eat the delicious breakfast in the dining room. Kim and Steve Clardy are the perfect hosts! They are welcoming, helpful, caring, and very concerned with making your stay with them delightful. They are always happy and glad to see you. My partner and I had a great experience at The Portland White House. My partner happen to get sick with a bad cold the second night we stayed. The staff was very concerned and took the time to provide hot tea and offered to do anything else that they could do. Very caring atmosphere as well as relaxing. We will be back and may plan our 5 year celebration of renewing our vows.

The Portland White House B&B was a great place for a romantic getaway weekend. Delicious cookies and delightful innkeepers made us feel at home, but the house also has very beautiful, eclectic antique decor and a grand layout. Especially charmed by the murals of the Potomac in the front hall. Hope to be back!

We stayed in the balcony room. It was great we were really excited about the six headed shower but the pressure was very low and two of the heads just dripped. When another room used their shower while we used ours all the shower heads turned into a drizzel. The food was great. About a three block walk to the main road there re two coffee chops. One on the corner and the other to the left we went to the one to the left the coffee prices we low the coffee was great and it was not as crowded as the other one. The cookies and truffles they give you at the B&B are a very tasty touch to a very nice place to stay.

A grand and historic house in a neighborhood of lovely old homes. The food was great. A huge breakfast at a shared table in a big dining room, and cookies and chocolates in the room. An easy walk to a commercial district, or an easy drive to downtown. A cozy and charming inn, much better than a sterile hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.

Our room was well appointed, and featured white terry robes and great cookies and chocolates. The bed was comfortable, with nice linens and pillows. The bathroom was small but well done, so it all worked. The building itself is quite spectacular, as can be seen from the pictures. The neighborhood is quiet, with a number of restaurants within walking distance. Even though it was a bit damp, we walked to a good Thai place for dinner. We visited in November, so we expected rain. Breakfast consisted of individual Dutch Baby pancakes, plus bacon. Since we don't eat bacon, the meal seemed delicious but scant. Maybe we're just big eaters, but we would have enjoyed some fruit or additional offerings in place of the meat. Each party chooses the time they will come down to breakfast and notes it on the board in the entry. Since most of us elected 8:30 (breakfast is served until 9), a number of strangers sat down at a single table for breakfast. We eventually got a conversation going, but it was a bit uncomfortable. Children are allowed, and we had a couple of charming but noisy little ones staying next door. If you wake easily, bring a white noise generator. There might have been one in the room, but we missed it. The innkeepers are a mixed pair. Our hostess seemed charming, but our host was a bit less gracious, and he's the one with whom we had the most contact. For instance, while she invited everyone to sit wherever they wanted, he came in and rearranged folks to accomodate later parties. Similarly, his presentation about their procedures made us feel awkward. When I asked a question without having listened to his whole spiel, I was asked to wait. This B&B was nice, but we'll probably try someplace else when we next come to Portland.

Loved it, it's worth visiting Portland just to stay there. Terrific and unusual breakfast, great little extras like homemade cookies and Moonstruck chocolates, all in a setting that feels like something out of the Roaring Twenties that looks as great as the photos.

Portland's White House has our complete endorsment. We had a wonderful stay. The staff was courteous and helpfull and greeted us with homemade cookies upon our arrival. We asked for a dinner recommendation and had one of the best meals of our trip only blocks from the White House and for around 40 dollars for 2! We were allowed to explore the building and use the livingroom to read and relax. The bedroom was nothing short of amazing with a chandelier over our bed and antiques, pottery, stained glass were only a few things that adorned the home. Our room was quiet so we rested well. The television provided had full cable service. Breakfast in the morning was as described, a gourmet treat of fresh orange juice, great coffee, a bowl of fresh fruit and an egg fritatta. Every effort was made to be sure the guest were comfortable and happy. We have stayed at many large chain hotels including the Ritz Carlton and the JW Marriott. There is much to say about those hotels but the customer service and personal attention at the White House beats them all! Thanks White House...we'll be back!

Wonderful stay- we enjoyed the grandeur of the home, the dining room and appreciated the friendliness of the inn keepers. My wife and I just stayed here - we chose the "Blarney Room", one of the three rooms in the carriage house. This B&B is spotlessly clean and gorgeously appointed with antiques. The owners really, really care for the place and their guests. The location is great too, in a quiet, safe, historic neighborhood not far from the hot spots of NE Portland. Street parking is plentiful, the gourmet breakfast is truly outstanding - perhaps the best I've ever had in a B&B (and vegans take note: my wife is vegan, and I eat vegetarian, and we were very well taken care of) - and the super-friendly, super-chatty staff bent over backwards for us. Only quibbles: the wall between the Blarney Room and the Carolina Room is thin and we could hear our neighbors pretty clearly. Not much the owners can do about that, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Also, I'd recommend thicker curtains for our window, as the morning sun woke us up earlier than we wanted! Aside from that, I'd happily stay here again. It's amazingly well-priced for the luxury you get. I highly recommend this place if you are in Portland.

Beautiful building and fun owner/operators. Great breakfasts. We stayed three nights and felt that some simple things would make the stay much more enjoyable. After breakfast there was no access to tea or coffee or nibbles. Access to these things (self serve) 24 hours makes a big difference. Brandy or wine in the sitting room in the early evening would also help. These are things we have come to expect at other B&Bs in this price range. The decoration is over-the-top and not for everyone. Carpets, especially in the entry and on master staircase need cleaning.

My wife & I chose Oregon for our vacation this year and we were not disappointed. We stayed at some of the most wonderful places(Crater Lodge, Timberline and Columbia Gorge Hotel) but our favorite night was at the White House. Rooms were welcoming, clean (loved the oatmeal cookies!) and the location was perfect, close to the train to downtown, but also easy to walk everywhere and bars/restaurants/shops within a few blocks. We arrived in Portland during our 2 week honeymoon road trip and feel in love with the White House! Lanning was amazing, gave us a complimentary upgrade so we had a beautiful king size bedroom with immaculate bathroom and fresh cookies upon arrival. These cookies are amazing! He gave us extras when we left and I want the recipe! We only stayed one night but it was a heavenly night's sleep and we awoke to a wonderful full breakfast served! The food was one of the best breakfast's we'eve ever had! Cheese blintzes with fresh local berries, blueberry muffins and fresh, hot coffee...I HIGHLY recommend the White House for a romantic stay away from home! We will definitely be back! --Happy Honeymooners

The interior spaces of the of the PWH are comfortable, although ornate. We much preferred the cozier, more cheerful Blarney room over the Balcony room, although the space was extremely small and crowded with furniture. The reservation form stated that vegeterian breakfasts were served and vegan choices could be provided. I indicate a vegan preference, but I was served eggs and meat or fish daily. I am used to a simpler, healthier breakfast, but my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. Our primary reason for choosing the PWH was its location which most convenient for our purposes.

We took over Portland's White House for a three-day weekend to celebrate our wedding. We filled all the rooms and had at least 16 for breakfast every morning. We had our ceremony in the flower-filled courtyard, and enjoyed the buffet lunch at tables they set up outside, too. The list of things that went well that weekend is very long! Our guests loved their rooms, and talked about the chocolate chip cookies that they enjoyed every day. The food at the buffet for the wedding was exactly what we'd ordered, and was delicious, fresh and beautiful. We had outstanding breakfasts every morning (we stayed for three nights). Adults, kids and teenagers all loved the selection and the flavors. The owner, Lanning, was a perfect wedding organizer - he kept an eye on every detail to make sure it went perfectly. And it did! Kim and Steve kept everything running well, and our families have all commented on how much they enjoyed the weekend. We can't wait to go back and celebrate our first anniversary with a stay at this amazing place - right in the heart of a beautiful neighborhood in Portland! Highly, highly recommend it.

Our stay at the White House was too short, only 2 days. I would highly recommend this B & B. The owners made you feel like royality, they were very friendly and welcoming. The property and all the landscaping was gorgeous, the bedrooms were fabulous and the food delicious, presentation of food beautiful. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, extremely helpful with all our questions and even offered to share their dinner with us one night after we had had a long day of sightseeing, I'd say they they were very generous. The whole ambiance was wonderful and we really were sad to leave. Given the opportunity again we wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay longer.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It's a grand old home in a wonderful neighborhood and our room (The Chauffeur) was comfortable (and immaculate). The breakfast alone is worth a stay here. At the suggestion of the owner, we ended up spending a glorious day hiking around waterfalls. We would not have known about it otherwise. The only thing lacking was a box of Kleenex in the room, but I'm sure if I had asked for it, they would have delivered one immediately. Highly recommend.

Stayed just one night on our way to the coast but would have enjoyed staying longer. Very charming B and B which was very clean. Upon arrival awaiting in our room were fresh cookies and some chocolates which were delicious. Extremely clean overall and the bathroom was modern and immaculate. Our breakfast was excellent and the host was very accomodating. Definitely would stay again. Excellent value for the room rate (we were there in low season).

This is the second time I've stayed here, with a few years intervening. It's strong suit is location; quiet and convenient NE. Other services are adequate. I find it has a cluttered look; jammed with so many antiques that you feel you can't turn around without banging into one, and the advertised wifi is terrible. It is in a nice, interesting neighborhood.

Beautiful B&B! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent here. We loved our room and the jacuzzi tub that came in it. The breakfast was delicious!!!!!! Attention to little details like yummy chocolates, homemade cookies, and classical music playing in our room upon arrival were very appreciated. After we left, we kept wishing we were still there!

This is an amazing property located in a very quiet and pretty neighborhood. The entire house is filled with antiques, and as a guest, you really get the feeling of being VIP. Breakfast was served formal in the dining room, service was outstanding. The Carolina room that my husband and I stayed at was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to others when they visit Portland!

PWH is in a lovely, friendly, old neighborhood of Portland, with huge, beautiful trees, roses and rhododendrons lining the streets, so it's great for walking and being outside. Our room (the chauffeur's quarters) was old-world elegant and immaculate, cozy/somewhat small, with luxurious bedding and a beautiful bathroom. Food was served beautifully and very generously, with daily homemade cookies and chocolates a nice, welcoming extra. There's a charming parlor and living room with piano, games at tables, and comfortable sofas for relaxing. Our daughter and granddaughter live next door and were welcomed over for breakfast, and our granddaughter loved playing an African drum in the parlor. Lanning, the owner, and Kim and Steve, inn keepers, were all easy-going, gracious and professional hosts. I look forward to staying at PWH again when we visit our daughter in Portland.

Our second visit and it was even better than the first! Lovely rooms, great service, wonderful food, good company at breakfast and a very relaxed atmosphere. We'll be back soon.
5 on May 13, 2011
The room was right out of a turn of the century magazine. Other than a few modern items, the original owners from 1912 had just stepped out for awhile. Getting used to a taller bed was a small learning curve, but once there you didn't want to leave, even though you knew breakfast was going to be special. Not only does Lannning take pride in the house, but so do his caretakers. Kuddos all around for maintaing this slice of heaven!

The innkeepers were lovely and personable. They even upgraded us to a nicer room for no extra charge. We loved being immersed in the antique charm of this b&b, and the neighbourhood was a wonderful place to walk around. We were so happy we stumbled upon this place.

This is a beautiful facility. The Canopy Room had everything one could want including champagne, chocolats and cookies to greet us on arrival. The inkeepers were very friendly and accomodting. They made sure our stay was very comfortable. This B&B is located in a beautiful neighborhood in NE Portland. We look forward to staying at Portland's White House Again.

We were in Portland visiting relatives but wanted to ahve 1 night to ourselves since our anniversary fell during the stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Kim who informed us that we were upgraded from the Rose room to Barons. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference to the room itself but the bathroom in Barons is much, much larger. My wife enjoyed soaking in the claw foot tub. The innkeepers gave us a great dinner suggestion in downtown Portland. Breakfast the next morning was terrific, including the elk sausage. Lots of towels in the bath along with comfy terry cloth robes. Two cookies were waiting in the room upon check-in and chocolates when we returned from dinner. A very elegant place.

The staff(better said friends) welcome you with open arms the minute you walk in the door and present the type of atmosphere in which you dont need to say word one and your every need is met with a smile. We certainly felt at home and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who is looking for that once in a lifetime unique getaway. We will be back! Thanks to all!

Perfect combination of sevice without being intrusive. Champagne, cookies, chocolates, soft music - very nicely done. The breakfast was oustanding - Quiche, sausage, fruit, muffin.

My wife and I live in Portland, but stayed at the White House for a night as a gift. It was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and sensitive to our gluten-free dining needs. Even though it was no more than 30 minutes from home, we felt like we were on vacation in another city.

We had such a great time staying at Portland's White House! We loved the historic decor and our room was everything we could hope for. Amazing staff, amazing food and the perfect location. Would definitely stay there again and will recommend our friends to if they're ever in the area. Thanks for making our vacation great!

My husband and I just returned from a short trip to Portland and we cannot say enough positive things about this wonderful B&B. It is both elegant and cozy. It is filled with antiques but manages to not feel overly precious. There are plenty of modern amenities. Also, the breakfasts are delicious. And, you cannot complain about the scrumptious homemade cookies that are in your room every day and the chocolate truffles. The staff is amazing and you feel very well taken of. The inn is located in the Irvington neighborhood which is lovely and walking friendly. There were lots of shops and restaurants on NE Broadway just a couple of blocks away. And, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is a quick drive to downtown Portland. I highly recommend this B&B.

Portland’s White House is a B&B mansion filled with ambience and antiques fit for the cover of any magazine. Our party of eight from the U.S. and Canada was delighted with its warm accommodations - soft, cozy four-poster beds, luxurious bathrooms, afternoon cookies and dark chocolates, cheerful lounging areas, and delicious gourmet breakfasts. Our host, Lanning Blanks, was caring, attentive and welcoming. He saw to our every need including food allergy alternative meals; help with minor ailments, transportation requests and dining recommendations. We all agreed; if you wish to be spoiled, Portland’s White House is the perfect get-away choice.

A stately mansion filled with ceramic treasures makes for a wonderful B&B. The service was excellent, the breakfasts (we had four) interesting and delicious (one exception, the sausage was not great). The only fault we saw was the property maintenance could be improved (e.g., outside painting). Such maintenance issues had no effect on our stay.
5 on January 11, 2011
The White House is a beautiful mansion filled with antiques and art. The best chocolate chip cookie and Moonstruck chocolates awaited us on check-in. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfasts were fabulous and Lanning is a generous and entertaining host!

Located in the convenient Northeast section of the city, in a historic neighborhood, Portland's White House offers classic, yet cozy, comforts at a very reasonable price. Fresh baked cookies and truffles welcomed us. Then we were treated to an outstanding breakfast in the morning. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable. We'll definitely return.

Not much to report. Booked a room for a romantic getaway, and we were given a free upgrade to the biggest room. The house is truly amazing, the room even better. We loved the big bathtub and HUGE soft bed. We had cookies and chocolate waiting for us and we were able to walk a few blocks to a restaurant for dinner. There was a big party in the banquet room, and we hardly noticed. Our evening wasn't interrupted or affected at all, even with party guests enjoying themselves and coming and going. Breakfast was good, not great. We didn't stay here for the food, we came for the incredible room and house. We left very very happy. Great stay, great bed and breakfast. I will go again.

As far as food, we had a southern-style huevos rancheros. It was delicious, healthy, and had a beautiful presentation; but traveling from Texas, we had hoped for something less familiar, such as some outstanding pancakes, french toast, or other baked good. We were only able to stay one night, so obviously had we stayed longer our taste buds might have been satisfied. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Portland.

Thanksgiving with family in P-town, found the White House nearby. What a delightful B&B - stayed in the cozy Carolina room - very comfortable accommodations. All antique furnishings. Colors and art in this home - beautifully done, warm and inviting. Incredible staff, service was perfect and the breakfasts are truly to die for.

My husband and I are native Portlanders, and we just wanted to stay somewhere unique and local for our anniversary. This mansion is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Large enough to be impressive and interesting...small enough to feel personal and welcoming. Gorgeous antiques throughout. Lanning was on vacation, so we didn't get to meet him, but he left us in excellent, capable hands. All staff were courteous and attentive. A perfectly pleasant experience!

We had a very nice stay at the White House. The decor was "old world" and we enjoyed the ambiance and style. The breakfasts were very well done, delicious. I enjoyed talking with other guests at the family-style breakfast table. The location is bit far from downtown but in an old neighborhood that is quiet - great walking! I will return when in Portland again.

Portland's White House is located in a very lovely quiet neighborhood within walking distance of many cool pubs, restaurants, and shops. We stayed in the Balcony Room. The bed was plush and luxurious and the room was equipped with a flat screen TV, an ipod dock, and lots of informative local magazines. The room was quite small and the balcony itself was tiny. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the cookies and chocolates awaiting us in our room. The six-head shower had very low water pressure, which took the novelty out of the experience. Our breakfast of stuffed french toast was delicious but we were hoping for more food. We could hear the cooks' conversations while we ate and the topic was less than savory. This B&B is by no means upscale, but for a fun and casual stay in Portland it's not bad.

I usually stay by myself, traveling on business. I feel comfortable here solo and would also feel very comfortable staying here with my wife; it's welcoming and romantic without making solo travelers feel awkward. The breakfasts are sensational; I usually have oatmeal and cottage cheese for breakfast but I throw the calorie counter out and go all out here.

Everything about this Bed & Breakfast was what I had hoped for, I had reserved a room as a gift and was not disappointed. The house is gorgeous, historic and elegant, and the service was excellent throughout our stay. I had not known what to expect as far as what we would be served for breakfast, but it did not disappoint. It truly was a gourmet breakfast, I couldn't ask for anything more. Without a doubt, I will be recommending the Portland White House to family and friends.

Stayed in the Balcony room for three nights, the one just above the front door. Pluses: Great looking building, kept reasonably well, in a really nice neighborhood. Nice view and charming decor. The sheets were nice but the feather mattress pad had pointy feather tails sticking out. Beautiful shared areas with a grand piano. Minuses: The room was very small, there wasn't a desk and one had to sit on the bed, since the side chairs were small pushed against the corners between other pieces of furniture. The air system was very loud and impossible to turn off. Made it very hard to have a good night sleep. The bathroom was small with no room for toiletries. We had to put our things on top of the toilet tank, which was a drag because every second flush, the float got stuck and we had to remove the tank lid to unhook it to get it to fill and flush the next time. The toilet got plugged very easily. The multi-head shower had not even enough pressure for one head. We had everything shut down just to get a dribble of water. The TV was the worst we've ever seen and the remote control didn't work. The breakfast was repetitive and average at best. The home baking was good however but the service itself was mediocre. We heard the expression "we're trying to keep our food costs down" about 5 times one morning. All the gay guys we know are very friendly and particular about the details, these two were an odd ball, one of them was very rude and the other, who wore 10 year old T-shirts could not ever remember who wanted coffee and who wanted tea. Overall, we were not impressed with our stay there, we met some nice people and also some rude ones, the place is charming but the hosts are not. Be my guest, try it at your own risk and hopefully you'll have a better experience than ours. Oh and by the way, don't go in winter, the balcony doors leak a lot and you'll very likely be really cold!

Your jaw will first hit the floor when your eyes gander at every nook and cranny in this beautiful 100 year- old former timber baron mansion. The owner and staff who greet you, and then are there to take care of every detail and need you might have are just world-class. We were treated to warm fires, scrumptous gourmet meals, fresh baked snacks, and every possible creature comfort you would dream of when our party of 20 was there for three day/ two night stay and wedding ceremony. Then the accommodations are both private, and yet you feel very together with everyone there in the same common areas for socializing an dining, and rooms with huge king beds that you could sleep 20 years in and never know you missed a day, large, private baths with every room annointed in an eclectic mix of 18th, and 19th century art, pottery, and fixutures. You really feel like you are stepping back into time, and are of some royal lineage when you are there. Lanning was such a great caretaker of all of us, and especially doted on our children and made them feel welcome in his White House. The kids loved the downstairs ballroom, stripped of breakable heirloom pieces where they could play the piano, make a little noise, and have open space to be kids in. We had a wonderful time getting to meet our new in-laws, and the cozy space with so much to keep your eyes roaming all over during your stay will simply astound you. It was a great place to hold our small ( 20 person) family wedding where we all got to stay and be together for the long weekend. Truely memorable place and stay we had this weekend. Don't miss a chance to stay here when you are in Portland.

Whilst this was quite possibly one of the most beautiful B&Bs I’ve ever stayed in there were some serious problems. The room was unbearably hot and I was told the A/C was ‘turned off for the year’. We had to sleep with all the windows open to the street and an unimaginably filthy fan blowing the whole night. The breakfast was merely average and was not read when they said it would be. One excellent thing was there were no scents anywhere to trouble me; no fabric softener or dryer sheets, no room deodorizers, no plug-in air fresheners. It was the first B&B I could actually sleep at without having to take a handful of allergy meds while there. It’s a shame I couldn’t sleep because of the heat. That said; the B&B is magnificently beautiful with more antiques than the Antiques Roadshow. It’s perfectly situated within a nice neighborhood in Portland within a few minutes drive or walk from just about everything. While I may never stay there again anyone wishing to stay there when the heat or A/C is running will not be disappointed.

If you think that B&Bs are just about fussy decor and furnishings that are more attique than antique, go directly to Portland's White House. From the genuine antiques and original artwork to the original Tiffany stained glass windows, this amazing mansion combines charm and comfort with elegance and hospitality. Great location in a beautiful residential neighborhood too.

We stayed 3 nights at this bed and breakfast in late August of '07. It is just as beautiful as the website shows. Lanning is very kind and attentive as is his staff. Lanning even made up a plate of desserts for my family (who were not guests) when he saw we were making a road trip. The rooms are papmering plus! Thankfully I have family in Portland so I get to re visit this wonderful place. Kitty and Jack

Lanning and his White House is a fantasy come true. In a word, "Decadent." Lanning answers questions from his guests in a way that left me wanting to know more (but I didn't want to be too nosey). I am now hooked on luxury level B and Bs for my short travel adventures.
5 on April 10, 2007
This venue was so out of my league as I drove up, but immediately upon arrival was made to feel a part of the family. My 1st time at a B&B and has set the standards for what I expect from now on. Lannie is a huge part of what makes the venue special, he is open, honest and willing to answer any questions with just enough info. to keep you wanting more, and does this in a proud parent type of way, so you know he loves what he does and it shows.

We spent 3 nights. We loved the lively conversations with Lanning. He is a jolly, people-loving, multi-tasker. He can serve your bountiful breakfast creation while fielding everyones' questions about himself and the inn and the area. He is full of useful information and is never too busy to sit for a minute and talk with you. Our daughter was invited to share breakfast with us the first day which greatly impressed us. She, in the hospitality field, was greatly impressed with the cleanliness of the room.

We were greeted by a young man who helped us to our room. The home is amazing. We enjoyed wondering around the empty main floor--playing the piano, a game of chess. The room was terrific, very elaborate and elegant. Breakfast was when we became very disappointed. The innkeeper was boastful and the conversation at breakfast was very uncomfortable. The food was pleasant, but not remarkable.
