Hostess House

5758 NE Emerson Street , Portland, OR 97218-2406 USA (Show map)

Nothing fancy about Hostess House, which is a comtemporary home in a mellow neighborhood, yet has been open since 1988. This tells you that hostess, Mill Laughlin, is doing something right and customer satisfaction is assured! "Hostess House is a clean, clutter-free, quiet, economy inn where guests are pampered, coddled, and well fed - gourmet style," says Milli. "Our place is not for the conspicuous consumer but for the lower-maintenance person who is looking for quality accommodations with a smile." As a result you can expect a friendly welcome, an inviting night's rest, and awaken to a scrumptious breakfast. City-close and country-quiet. Private baths (one with handicap equipment)with many in-room amenities. Remote control basic cable TV/VCR/DVD and free wireless internet access. Smoke and perfume free. Free off street parking. Close to I-5, I-204 and I-84. You'll enjoy the City of Roses viewing an incredible rose garden, hiking the nature trails, visiting historic sights and museums, touring wineries, golfing, or after a day of shopping relax on the spacious deck. You can sip a cup of tea while viewing a deep, terraced backyard before enjoying one of Portland's fine restaurants.

Quiet comfort

4.2 on January 15, 2016

Like visiting a longtime friend for whom hospitality is second nature. Our room was cozy and quiet, with a bed that was comfortable for me but too firm for my husband. The bathroom, with tub, was convenient and well-illuminated. Milli, the proprietress, has a talent for baking. We especially liked the German apple pancake. The homemade biscotti are so good--and the view of the garden so pleasant-- we found ourselves lingering at the table

Unique B&B Experience

4.4 on August 10, 2015

I was very happy with out stay at the B&B. Milli is an excellent baker and we got to know her a little bit during breakfast, she is an award winning baker who is very dedicated and enjoy what she does. Our experience was great and we enjoyed our time at Hostess House.

Staying with family...

5 on May 20, 2015

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Hostess House. Milli was very attentive to our needs, and is an excellent hostess. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Many small extras including a comfy robe, basket for shopping, variety of nice soaps and clean towels every day! The breakfasts were divine as was the company at the breakfast table. I would've spent some time on the deck gazing at her stunning rhododendrons surrounding the serene backyard if the weather was warmer. Next time. The experience reminded me of stays with my family and I really enjoyed that. Thanks again Milli!

Best B&B we stayed in!

We spent 2 nights at Hostess House and Milli was a wonderful host. The room was clean and overall the house looked great. The breakfasts were amazing and I am so glad to see Milli shared her recipes online! We would definitely stay here again when we visit Portland

Better than those chains, by far!

A lot of detailed care is evident here. Breakfasts are delicious and healthful, too. With only 2 guest rooms in this home, your privacy is wonderful. Beds are queen-sized, and if that suits you, you will be happy!

Innkeeper Response
you two were great. We have the world's best guests.

Quaint quiet and friendly

4.6 on October 30, 2014

Milli made wonderful breakfasts which conformed to our dietary needs (gluten free, pork free, no cow dairy.) The cost was quite reasonable (comparable to a hotel stay), and the room was quiet, comfortable, and clean. One truly felt like a guest in Milli's home, rather than a patron in a mass housing facility.

Lovely home, gracious hostess

4.2 on October 12, 2014

Our stay at the Hostess House was quite pleasant. Our room and bathroom were clean and well furnished: the bed was excellent, the towels fresh daily, and the whole house spotless. Although a bit small for my husband and me, the bedroom and its private bath would be perfect for one person. Milli is friendly, outgoing and quite an interesting person to talk with. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and to meet all of our needs. Plus, she makes lovely breakfasts!

Great Portland Alternative

Quiet neighborhood. Owner was gracious and accommodating. Privacy respected. Will stay here again.

Great place for all we needed!

5 on September 13, 2014

This was our third visit to Hostess House and our most enjoyable yet. We consider Milli our friend now, not just proprietor of this wonderful B&B. We were in Portland for our oldest son's wedding. Such a happy occasion was even more enhanced by Milli's genuine interest in all the festivities - almost as if she was a part of our family. We felt so comfortable and at home with her. What a great lady! What a great place!

Loved this B&B

This was the perfect spot for us. Economical and a great location for getting around the Portland area. Milli is the sweetest and provides a great breakfast.

Signature Dish

German apple pancake
A special pancake batter poured into a very hot, buttered cake pan, swirled with thin apple slices then cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top. When baked to a golden brown, served with hot apple cider syrup. Yummy! Liked by both children and adults.
