Hostess House

My husband and I just left Millie's B & B this morning. The Hostess House Bed and Breakfast is truly "a home away from home." My husband and I are "low-maintenance" and we do not need anything fancy. Hence, Hostess House was perfect. However, Millie's warm and nurturing nature is not low-maintenance. It is superior in quality and very much appreciated. My husband suspected the furniture was dated 1960s. But, he learned from Millie that the dining table chairs were very well restored antiques from the 1950s! I really enjoyed the Japanese motifs around the B & B. The standout is included in the photographs above --- I'm referring to the kimono. I believe it is a kimono. The photograph does not do it justice. It is beautiful! ____ The breakfasts are excellent. As other reviewers have said, the German Apple Pancakes are a must have. They were light, sweet but not heavy. The taste of the apple slices really came through. As my husband said, "It was like an apple strudel without the heff." The Spinach Quiche is really good too (with or without the bacon bits). Millie is very attentive and she was good at answering our questions and making recommendations as to what to see. Rest assured, the next time we visit Portland, we will stay at The Hostess House Bed and Breakfast. If you're looking for a warm and friendly environment (with delicious German Apple Pancakes), this is the place to go. Thank you, Millie. Evelyn & Joseph

I had already filled out a manual postcard on my Hostess House Stay but I will tell you what I told Milli Laughlin. I absolutely felt like it was coming home to my own home. Milli was warm, inviting and a charming hostess. The breakfasts she prepared do lovingly were magnificent and served on china. It reminded me of my Aunt Thelma's family gatherings and the joy she received putting out a beautiful meal on beautiful china and silverware. I was there to visit my daughter who lived very close to Hostess House. She had just given birth to my first grandchild on April 6, 2013. I shared those moments and pictures with Milli and it was like sharing them with a cherished family member! There is no doubt I would recommend Hostess House to others and I will certainly be back!

The Hostess House was a wonderful choice for a B&B. It was in a great location, with easy access to the airport, restaurants, and other activities. Milli was a great and attentive hostess and I felt like I was part of the family. We would definitely stay here again.

Hostess House was a lovely spot to stay while attending a workshop in Portland. I felt welcomed and safe. Millie went out of her way to prepare food for my gluten-free needs and was good company if I wanted it or not intrusive if I didn't.

Milli is a great hostess. She opens her heart as well as her home. Thoughtful in every detail of what a guest might want for their stay. Great value and had a great time. Don't miss the apple pancakes.

This was our second visit to Hostess House and our second time to feel totally at home with Milli Laughlin's gracious hospitality and accommodations. Milli is such a wonderful hostess - and person - that it makes staying at Hostess House a truly memorable experience!

Milli is an absolute perfect hostess, very helpful in all respects and makes you really feel at home. Her breakfasts are absolutely outstanding, considered her cooking and her ideas. Phantastic!! She also helps you to plan your stay at Portland perfectly. We'll stay with her again when we are in Portland and will recommend her to our friends in Germany! our room was not too big, nor was the bathroom, but the other one is fine having a full bathroom of its own.

We made reservations here for a visit to the Portland area. The hostess was friendly and willingly shared info about the area. The food was great. She made you feel relaxed, as if you were at home. The accommodations were excellent. I would recommend this B&B.

This is a simple "owner designed" ranch house in huge landscaped lot as a "backyard." Located in an older neighborhood of ranch houses, this is not a large house. Owner is very friendly and hospitable. We stayed two nights. Breakfasts were outstanding. I loved the Caramel Pecan coffee roll! Breakfast also included Quiche and an Apple Strudel. The granola recipe was a memorable "owner original" served with Greek Yogurt. Food was outstanding. Bedroom was small and simply decorated. An excellent value for the money!

Wonderful visit. Gracious, lovely hostess! Great food. We will definitely return if my son continues to live in the area. Thank you!

This was our 4th stay -- a week each time, and now that we bought an Oregonian house -- perhaps our last.

Millie is an amazing hostess. breakfast was ready every morning as we hit the table and the food was the best we have ever had, anywhere. The food was all home made, very creative, and exceptional in quality. This is a first rate place. We will be going back.

Milli is a terrific hostess. I have stayed here twice and will come again.

Milli was absolutely delightful. She accommodated my dietary needs, and exceeded my expectations with her breakfasts. Everything was delicious, and we chattered away like old friends at the breakfast table. She had a cancellation, and accommodated my request for a bathtub by changing my room. The location was perfectly located to the airport, and to my seminar. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. My only complaint was that the water heater ran out of hot water before the tub was full, and I raced through my shower the next mornings to avoid a cold shower. I suggest the solution could be a tankless water heater, or point of use water heater.

I have stayed here many times and have found it very quiet and comfortable. The breakfasts are outstanding and Milli is a great host.

I was making an impromptu trip to Portland and had to find a place - fast. I didn't want to stay in a hotel in downtown Portland because I was looking for some peace and quiet. I found that at Hostess House and the proprietor, Millie, was able to accommodate my last minute request. The place is small and it felt very cozy and warm. I will definitely recommend this place to others looking for a quiet, homey place to stay for a few nights.

Hostess House is exceptional in every way! The lack of perfumes and Victorian frippery are a lovely starting place, but the breakfasts are amazing - this is not a Bed & "breakfast", it's a Bed & BREAKFAST. Milli is so sweet and welcoming, and is an absolutely astoundingly good cook.

The location of this B&B made it very easy the first evening there to enjoy a restaurant in east Portland suggested by our son, and for the next two days to access places of interest in downtown Portland. It was a lovely place to stay and the breakfasts were excellent.

Loved Millie who is a great cook and lovely person. The rooms were so-so but a good value for the price. Bed definitely could be a bit more comfortable. This is one of those B and Bs where you feel very much in someone's home, sharing their front door, worrying about arriving too late, making too much noise, etc.

Really great place to stay, very quiet, so if you're looking to party at all and have a crazy time in Portland not the best place for you. The breakfast, though, was really delicious and the price of the room was very reasonable. And Milli, the inn keeper was very sweet and I enjoyed talking with her at breakfast.

The experience we had staying at Hostess House was wonderful. The home is a private residence and was very comfortable. The yard was meticulously maintained with flowers everywhere. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. What made our stay truly great was the innkeeper. A lovely lady who truly cares for her guests in every way.

Amazing is the down home simple grace, humility, and quiet, gentle strength that abides in this place! Truly, I have been places that have purported to have all the luxuries one could want, only to be disappointed! Milli provides all one could want in a B&B and then tosses in MORE! Hostess House is in a modest Portland neighborhood, though house is clean as a whistle - room was small, though adequate. Location was convenient to city sights and wine country, also local restaurants. The highlight was the breakfasts - very complete and many home baked treats. Very friendly hostess.

Worth finding in the eastern end of portland in quiet Cully neighborhood. Friendly owner,Milly Laughlin does everything but sing you to sleep. Great food!

This is a very comfortable B&B at which to stay. Milli, the host, is incredibly friendly and enjoys conversation with guests. I would recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a pleasant, safe, and enjoyable stay near a nice shopping/restaurant neighborhood of NE Portland.

I had the pleasure of staying here for 3 nights while in Portland on business. Milli takes care of her guests, from delicious breakfasts to extra blankets if needed to terrycloth robes for guest usage. She is such a warm person who takes a personal interest in her guests but isn't intrusive.

This B&B is near the airport, but a quick drive to downtown, and very quiet. We had our own key and heard nothing from the next room. Everything was provided, from baby cot to handrails on the tub, water pitcher to toothpaste. The breakfasts were incredible and tailored to our individual wishes. The garden is lovely and peaceful, and Milli is everything you could wish in a hostess, friendly without being intrusive. This is one of the best experiences and values I've found in a B&B.

When Hostess House was rated "5" in every area and all comments positive except one - VERY UNCOMFORTABLE ROOM AND HOME - doesn't make sense does it?

Staying at the Hostess House has all the comforts of home - beautiful view from the upstairs deck, delicious food prepared by the innkeeper, and gracious hospitality. Would definitely stay there again.

The hostess was very gracious. She took the extra trouble to serve me breakfast at the crack of dawn, so I could be on my way. Staying here made all the differance! It is very clean and quiet. I plan to spend another week there in the fall.

Very comfortable and private. Keep returning whenever I stay in Portland for Milli's company, an exceptional person, and her wonderful breakfasts. Also, a convenient location.
