North End Crossing Barn & Bed

  • Front porch of the Curry House complete with rocking horse and loom: Yep it needs paint, but it's in a ghost town so we choose to not paint in favor of restoration on the inside. Do you see Grannie, at 95, weeding the front herb and flower beds?

Remember when, whether it's a walk down memory lane or your first step... As our guest at North End Crossing, sleep in peace and wake with hot water at your door and a bar of homemade soap, and coffee or tea ready for you. If you wake up with the rooster, you can help milk the cow, gather the eggs, and slop the hogs, cows, chickens and horses before breakfast. Or sleep in and wake up in time for a hearty country breakfast cooked on an antique cookstove. Firing up the wood cookstove around 6 a.m., with breakfast at 8 a.m., allows time for plenty of memories. Then use the rest of your stay to sit back and relax or participate in pioneer activities. You may even request activities beforehand so you can learn while you're here. Step back through time...

    Signature Dish

    Homemade
Your hearty country breakfast is homemade from the grape juice to the English tea scones using home-ground flour. Complimented with fresh-made butters and jams; cream from Maggie or Molly when freshened and eggs from the chickens when laying. In season breakfast can include veggies from the garden for omelets, fritatas or breakfast burritos (homemade tortillas even), along with rose hip syrup from the Rugosa family. (What BIG hips we have this year too!)

    City

    • Enterprise

    • Distance to city: 37 miles

    • Directions to property:
From Enterprise Oregon: head due north on Hwy 3, about 34mi. About a 1/4mi past the RimRock Inn the turnoff is on the left for Flora. See "turnoff" below for remainder of directions. From Lewiston Idaho/Clarkston Washington: Head SW towards Oregon. Follow the signs through Asotin (WA) to Enterprise, pass through Anatone (WA) still following signs for Enterprise. You will drop down to the Grande Ronde River with Boggan's, continue across the river and up the mountains on the other side. You will soon be in Oregon. When you get to the top of the mountains you will see a sign for the Flora turnoff. If you reach the RimRock Inn, turn around. You have gone a 1/4mi too far. Three miles to Flora from Hwy 3 turnoff. In town, turn as if to go to the school (biggest building in town). At the church turn, left. North End Crossing is the old white house (only one on that side of the block) with a "rust" fence out front. (If you use a map search on the Net, please use 97828-5076. Just the usual five-number zip will end you up in Timbukto or somewhere else. Nope I'm not kidding.)

    Airport

    • Portland, OR (PDX) 400 miles

    • Directions to property:
Follow the map to La Grande on I84, going across the top of Oregon. Turn north out of La Grande, following the signs to Enterprise or Joseph or even Wallowa Lake. You will pass through Island City, Imbler, Elgin, Wallowa, and Lostine. When you get to Enterprise, you want to turn north onto Hwy 3. There is one sign for Flora, Lewiston and Hwy 3. The Chevron station, Pacific Power and the post office are on the corners marking the turn onto Hwy 3. Continue on in Directions to the Property. (Lewiston is a much closer airport. I believe Spokane WA is too.)
