Staying at the Rideau View Inn

    November 16, 2011

I would highly recommend staying at the Rideau Inn Bed and Breakfast. I frequently travel to Ottawa on business and alway stay at the Rideau Inn. The house has character and charm and is always clean and presentable. I have stayed in most of the rooms and always find regardless of the room that my stay is enjoyable, all rooms have comfortable beds and the self serve breakfast is bountiful with a wide variety of choice. Daytime staff are eager to please and work hard to meet your expectations. I find this establishment is excellent value for the money and I have never had a conceern about staying there. Garry

    A good place to stay

    March 05, 2009

I chose Rideau Inn because of its location and also because of the price-performance ratio, after studying reviews for a lot of B&B places in Ottawa. I liked very much the way this house was re-designed and modernized in a sensitive way, respecting the old and modernizing were necessary. I also liked the creative way the rooms are designed as individual as their names are. The rooms are cosy. Many people might not like the fact that the breakfast is self-service - but on the other hand you can have breakfast very early if you want or need to. And then there are nice places to spend time in the house, living rooms with TV and VCR and many books as well as a nice porch. It is possible to prepare oneself a light meal. Laura, who is in the inn during the day, is very nice and helpful. The only negative point: I did not like the jam and jelly too much, I suppose better quality is available, too, in Canadian supermarkets.

    disappointing

    February 23, 2009

The best thing about this place is its location; you can easily get to many Ottawa attractions on foot or by bus from it. However...the self-serve food is very basic, not healthy or special in any way; we started our stay by noticing expired milk products and dumping the bad ones down the sink. There are two showers to serve about 8 rooms' worth of guests! We heard stories of people having to take cold showers. Perhaps worst of all, the manager seemed moody and verging on the unprofessional. We didn't get the impression that she likes what she does very much. While we were there, she actually kicked out a couple who had objected to her charging their credit card without asking them first, which created a very tense atmosphere. Some of the rooms are very nice, but overall our experience was disappointing.

    no service

    August 11, 2008

I didn't stay at the B & B due to the fact that no one from the Inn attempted to contact me. I am not sure how this service was supposed to work, but I am extremely disappointed with the experience. Jennifer

    A friendly and convenient place

    July 15, 2008

It was our first time in Ottawa, and Laura helped make our stay a very pleasant one. She was more than friendly and accommodating. The room was nice, though we probably will reserve a room with a larger bed next time. If I would change anything, I would suggest a little more food variety...maybe a couple more sugar-free cereal choices and soy milk for those of us with dairy issues. Maybe even have instant oatmeal available? I definitely recommend staying here. It's convenient to downtown and Elgin St., where a lot seems to be happening. Laura was very friendly. The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was nice, overall.

    A lesson

    June 03, 2008

I could not get a room at the Rideau Inn- booked so I stayed at another place advertized by the association. It was a DUMP. When I saw the beautiful spotless rooms and bathrooms and loads of towels, I could not believe what an error I made. So hopefully next time it will not be booked.

    felt like home

    June 15, 2007

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was really fun. The place is so clean and pretty and the people are very friendly. We loved the BC room and our bed was even bigger than a king bed. I really miss the place and would definately like to go back and tell my friends about it too.
