Holly Cottage B & B

  • Inn Details

Excerpt from Grey-Bruce Diversions Review on Holly Cottage B&B by Tanya Mazza "When one considers a B&B , one looks for the casual ease of home. Most however, will admit to craving a little bit of coddling, and Holly Cottage delivers the perfect amount. There's the unexpected plate of home made cookies in the living room and the timely offering of a pot of tea ( select from over 20 varieties). Guests are welcome to borrow snowshoes for a winter trek or relax outside on the private porch. In the morning, guests will find their preferred brew of tea or coffee on a pretty tray outside the door. From experience, the Collis' know that the most interesting sights are discovered by staying at B&B's so they love to discuss local attractions or plan a day's excursion. It's clear that Norma and David really enjoy their home and sharing the charm of Holly Cottage".

Holly Cottage is our Home Away From Home. We have been visiting Holly Cottage for 10 years now. We started going there before we got married and now, with 3 children all under the age of 8, Holly Cottage is our little weekend escape. David and Norma welcome you into their beautiful and charming home and make the entire visit perfect from the moment you step through the door. Their knowledge of the area is excellent and they will direct you to exactly what you are looking for: from snowshoeing to skiing, from shopping to dining, from hiking to biking, to bird watching and looking at waterfalls in the area. They have maps at the ready and are happy to call ahead to make reservations for you for whatever you need. The rooms are perfect and getting a solid night’s sleep is always guaranteed. Breakfast is always hot and delicious and dietary restrictions are catered to (just ask). Norma and David just have this amazing sense of when to enlighten guests with their amazing and hilarious stories or about the history of the area and when to let guests enjoy the peace and tranquility of their own company and of the area. Holly Cottage, run by David and Norma, is an experience worth having. It is one that will always be remembered. Summed up, Holly Cottage is the place to go for a peaceful, relaxing escape with a large number of experiences to be had in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Do not miss your chance to stay at Holly Cottage! Traveling Ontario, Dave & Norma's home/B&B is on our list of favorites. Upon arrival, we were welcomed into their 1878 stone farm house. With the tasteful renovation of the original structure and addition, they invite you to enter this charming and most comforting home as if it were your own. We arrived early evening, settling to the invitation of cookies and tea, brewed in a charming English teapot. My husband was tired, so I enjoyed my tea and conversation with Norma into the evening hours, she telling me of the home's history and previous owners. We stayed in the spacious Fireplace Suite. It had a really comfortable bed and chairs/table. The bathroom was just outside the bedroom in the hall, but we were the only guests upstairs. It was very clean, having modern bath facilities and every thing you needed. The dining room overlooked the hummingbirds and vines. Norma's scheduled breakfast was fruit, juice, coffee/tea, chocolate zucchini muffin, scrambled eggs on salmon and toast. My husband does not eat seafood, so asked to delete from his plate. Being the ultimate hostess, instead served him a generous slice of ham. You will enjoy a full, yummy breakfast. We needed the services of a fax before leaving the area. Dave called an office source in Meaford, informed them of our needs and directed us to their store. Dave & Norma have set the bar high for the best in Canadian hospitality. We hope we have another opportunity to visit Holly Cottage. Thank you, Dave & Norma, for making our visit a lovely experience!!

I booked Holly Cottage on an impulsive whim knowing little about Owen Sound and less about the countryside where this B & B is. I thought the price was right and the photos were nice. We arrived and were greeted by our host Dave. This is a lovely and charming home! We stayed in the room in the original section of the house (Kyle Room) and it is very large and cozy. New huge luxurious bathroom with large glass enclosed shower and bubble tub...very nice. Our hosts Norma and Dave were the best. They have tons of info on what to do and where to go. Our breakfasts were wonderful with fresh fruit, juice, eggs with great coffee and any kind of tea you desire. The house is so welcoming and bright, super clean too. We would come back from hiking and chill on the porch and watch the birds come to the feeders. A small fridge is provided for your wine or beer also. We only stayed 2 nights but would come again in a heartbeat.

We stayed at the Holly Cottage over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2010. Dave and Norma were exceptional hosts and the care that they demonstrated with the décor in all of the rooms was definitely appreciated. Their hearty breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Dave and Norma truly exceeded our expectations! Only very special hosts can achieve all that they have and make it seem so easy and effortless at the same time.

I recently spent 2 days staying at this warm, clean, charming and welcoming bed and breakfast. The proprietors David & Norma helped make my stay a relaxing, memorable one. Having called in first to let them now of my being a vegan, they gladly met my dietary requirements and prepared some delicious vegan fare for me to enjoy. If I am back travelling in the area, I won't hesitate to make arrangements to stay at this wonderful bed and breakfast once more!
