Simple Pleasures Bed & Breakfast

My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary with two nights at Simple Pleasures. Carol and Owen were wonderful hosts. They exhibited a love for and a knowledge of the area, which is helpful to first time visitors. The evening wine, morning breakfasts and location were perfect and lent to a relaxing time.

The name of the inn became reality for us -- simple pleasures of home-baked cookies, chocolate on a turned down bed, fresh raspberries in the morning, etc., made our stay delightful!

The atmosphere of our lodging and the towns we visited was so refreshing from the city. I was lost in the peacefulness and feeling of love and respect. I will surely return.

Our group of friends from Northern Ireland and the U.S. met at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, and it was extremely stressful getting out of the airport and city. This was after a day of delays on both sides of the Atlantic and the usual hassles of international travel. We drove a few hours south to Simple Pleasures B&B, and it was getting quite late. We were impressed that the innkeeper waited up for us and saw that we were tucked into our beautiful rooms before going to her own bed. The elegance of this charming country B&B cannot be overstated. Each room has its own deluxe antique furnishings, features, and comforts. The quality of sleep in those delightful rooms was just what we need. We all awoke to an amazing morning and walks on manicured paths leading to the river, a goddess' statue, a hot-tub in its own gazebo, and lovely endless gardens. Then an amazing breakfast was served, starting with fresh fruits in yogurt sauce with home-made pumpkin bread, leading to a full breakfast of sausage, hash browns, eggs, biscuits, and ending with a breakfast dessert of fresh strawberry shortcake. It was really unbelievable, and all our stress was relieved. Thank you to Bob and Berniece for creating this bit of Heaven on Earth for weary travelers! After leaving Simple Pleasures, we visited the Amish museum and Rockome Gardens between Arcola and Arthur, Illinois, and learned a great deal about the Amish way of life.

From the smiles that greet you to the hugs as you depart the experience with Carol Lee and Owen is truly priceless!! Kathryn, Joanna, and Ruby embrace you and share their Amish lifestyle and Carol and Owen spoil you with their 5 star hospitality. The gathering area is charming, room cleanliness beyond expectation, gourmet breakfast both delicious and filling! I pray my life's journey finds me once again at Carol and Owen's doorstep!!

we have been to numerous B&B's.. this one is top of the excellent ones. if carol is booked, change your dates. visit the deer farm behind. visit the amish farm behind that. visit farm auction wednesday in mt hope. spend time in berlin. 4 or 5 days if you can. g flann, toronto

Very Clean, Organized, Friendly Staff, Great Food....We'll be back! My mother & I spent the night at the recommendation of friends. So glad we did...felt like "home" without the cleanup & cooking.

I have been staying at B&B's for the past 5 years. I can not describe how great Simple Pleasures is compared to other places (they look good on the net but fail to live up to expections). Carol Lee and Owen were so nice and the food was outstanding! Clean, neat, comfortable rooms. Just super.

We felt like we were at home. Carol, Owen and the girls were excellect hosts. They gave us alot of information about the Amish since we weren't familiar with that culture. The food was excellent and the turndown service with a night cap was a nice touch. Will definitely be back and will tell our friends about our experience.

In the heart of Ohio Amish Country, we found a peaceful respite complete with afternoon 'high tea' and evening wine and snacks. the 4-room house was comfortable and enjoyable. A sumptuous breakfast was served by friendly hostess.

Carol & Owen were very gracious hosts and provided us with wonderful accommodations & delicious food! It was all about making us feel comfortable and enjoying our evening. We feel we have made new friends. The grounds were beautiful!

From the outside this bed and breakfast does have a simple look, but it was certainly a pleasure to stay at this lovely home. There is a wing of three rooms and dining room, that have a separate outside entrance but also connect with the main home once inside. All the rooms are beautiful; we stayed in Chris & Christina's Room which was the simpler of the three rooms with hardware floors and Amish clothing for decorations. The room had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and a small table with chairs and was very, very clean. We enjoyed our evening snack and visit with Carol Lee and Owen. They shared information with us about the area and Amish ways. Breakfast was delicious and Carol Lee was very accommodating of my husband's need for a low sugar meal, which I mentioned when reserving the room. A great place to stay, you will not be disappointed.

This is the first time that we ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast and we loved it. The host and hostess were just terriffic and the stay, well needless to say it had none of our preconceived ideas of what a Bed & Breakfast was. They made us most comfortable. I plan on returning with my daughters for a day of shopping in Amish Country and going back to this comfortabe place to stay.

It was simply a pleasure staying at Simple Pleasures and getting to know Carol and Owen. They made us feel like their home was our home. The rooms were very comfy, homey and spotless. The food and hospitality were outstanding. We liked it so well that we've been there 3 times already and plan to stay with them again in October.

This was our first experience with a B&B. We loved it. Our hosts were very gracious and friendly. Service, food, view and room were excellent. Couldn't have asked for better. Our Direct TV did not work due to a lightening strike, but the owners did let us go into another room to watch TV. Would highly recommend this B&B.

Carol Lee and Owen very personable and welcoming. Located in the ocuntry on Rt 62; can see the Amish travel from the B&B on the road. Rooms spotless. Breakfast - delicious and better than any restaurant.

This was a relaxing vacation. Relax at B&B reading, watching deer and Amish! Lots of things to do in area: restaurants, shops, tours, etc. B&B clean and on all levels, air conditioned and private bath.

From the high tea at check in (tea, local cheeses, scones, and finger sandwiches) to the evening wine to the fabulous breakfasts each morning we were pampered and catered to. Carol Lee and Owen are friendly and a wealth of knowledge on the local Amish. Their recommendations for dinners was on the mark. Very pleasurable stay, I recommend staying there instead of in Berlin--quiet and relaxing. You are able to observe different Amish sects while sitting in the gazebo. Look forward to returning in the future.

We had such a comforting and pleasurable time. Our Inn hosts were extremely cordial and the inn itself was homey. Can't wait to go back.

This is my second stay with Carol Lee and Owen at Simple Pleasures. I have taken our Amish friends to high tea here and spent the nite. They were so impressed with the room,food and the great service. Since that visit I have arranged with them to do a "Girl's nite out" Carol Lee fixed dinner for all of us - let me tell you what we had: Baked Brie with cherry sauce, a wonderful home made tomato basil soup, fresh field greens with the trimmings and a great home made strawberry vingarette dressing, prime rib, fresh green bean fixed perfectly, twice baked potatoes, individual chocolate cheese cakes with fresh raspberry sauce and berries. The special blend coffee is awesome. All of this from a wonderful hostess. I couldn't have asked for more!! Then off went the girls and all the parents spent the nite - only to have again wonderful goodies left out for the evening! If this doesn't tell you what a great place it is I don't know what will. Carol Lee and Owen turn over backwards to make your stay the best. Oh and don't kid yourself about the breakfast again its awesome. I will always make this my overnite place to stay!!!

This is my stay at Simple Pleasures. The hosts, Carol Lee and Owen, truly make you feel like part of the family! The room is comfortable, very clean and quiet. Breakfast was nicely served and included freshly picked local produce. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a nice get away in Amish Country. Much better than staying at an impersonal local hotel.

Room was clean ... food was good and "High Tea" made us feel special after the long drive there ~ really enjoyable! Cost was very reasonable.

We love to travel and have visited all the states of the United States along with several other countries. On our vacation to Michigan and Ohio one of our stays was at Simple Pleasures Bed and Breakfast. It was a great choice. Carol Lee and Owen shared their B&B as if we were family. Their knowledge of the Amish Country, its people and places to visit was very helpful; allowing us to visit some of the "Real Amish Country". The room, service and dining were outstanding. It is a stay we will always remember. If you travel to the Ohio Amish Country - You will love Simple Pleasures Bed and Breakfast.

Recently I was fortunate enough to stay at Simple Pleasures and experience the beauty of the Amish country and welcoming hospitality of Carol Lee and Owens B&B. The stay was top notch from the comfortable and homey sleeping room to the excellant breakfasts, high tea and snacks. If you are wanting a wonderful and unique holiday, I highly recommend Simple Pleasures - relaxing, enlightning, and fun.

In my past, I have been fortunant to go to many places on vacation, some in other countries. I have to say that Simply Pleasures will rank as one of the best places I have been to. Not only is the Inn outstanding, but the Innkeepers were wonderful. We felt so welcomed right from the start. The high tea and gourmet breakfast, were served perfectly, and were really delicious. Our room was perfect, and we slept very well. The entire place had such a wonderful serenity about it, that we felt we really had a vacation. And the Amish country was so interesting. I plan to go back, and would highly recommend this B&B to anyone.

What a wonderful experience to take some time off from the hectic hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Thanks to CarolLee and Owen Shevlin for showing the children and myself a relaxing weekend with phenomenal breakfasts to start the day. And what a bonus treat to have a visit with the Amish family from down the lane!! A fascinating and cultural experience that we will never forget!! I'll be back in the spring with girls from the office!! Truly a great time!

We drove by and then decided to stop. We were celebrating our anniversary. The Shevlin's were outstanding with making us feel so special. We even had an anniversary cake with our evening wine! Breakfast was exceptional and the room was so comfortable. We'll be back!
