The Housley House B&B of Grand Rapids

My sisters and I stayed this month at the Housley House B&B for a Murder Mystery and had loads of fun. We got to play dress up with all Teresa's formals and the guys got decked out too. Dinner at Miss Lily's restaurant aka Teresa was exceptional with scallops and stuffed mushrooms made just for us. We can't wait to come back and see the pretty cherry blossoms in the garden. Thank you for your special touch left in our rooms. We will tell our friends and see you soon!

The Christmas decorations were still all outside stacked by the entrance. We woke up Teresa from a nap upon arrival and walked into a house cluttered with stacks of personal papers with books and magazines throughout the papers. There were only two water bottles in the guest refrigerator upstairs and both were opened and used. The water pressure was terrible and overall very unwelcoming. Teresa left while we were getting freshened up, so when we came downstairs we had to call her for instructions. When we woke up, she was no where to be found again and she sent us to her restaurant for breakfast, which was less than stellar food and service. The whole stay felt like we were intruding on her time and personal space even though we were paying guests. After reading other's reviews, I totally feel jipped out of a good B&B experience. Absolutely terrible experience and will return to the B&B across the stress.

Pure bliss in every way!

This was our frist B&B and it was a great experience. Terisa and Don are great hosts, as well as good cooks. At this B&B you also get a murder mistery to be part of as well. What a great way to spend a weekend with 4 of our friends. Thanks Teresa and Don for a great weekend.

We went with two other couple for the murder mystery package. It is a must do! Teresa Marie is such an excellent host! She makes you feel very comfortable and welcome! Excellent breakfast also. We will be back for their Halloween package. Thanks Teresa

PLEASE!! Check out www.housleyhouse.com. My husband and I just got back from a one night get away and WOW! The house itself is FANTASTIC and a model for what a victorian B&B should be, but it's the hosts Teresa and Don that make it the most pleasurable, dare I say, life altering experience (I'm talking FANTASTIC people). Anyone who wants to get away from it all - I recommend w/out reservation. Although, yes, reservation is required. Teresa also does weddings. Did I mention the food?? OMG! THEE BEST! I had never even heard of Grand Rapids, OH until I had to find lodging for a wedding. I really enjoy helping out "Mom & Pop" businesses so I thought I'd look for a B&B. The Housley House popped up on a bed and breakfast site and after comparing it to others in the area I decided to book my evening! I am so excited that I did! My husband and I have never stayed in a B&B before, so we had no idea what to expect. Teresa and Don were so inviting and welcoming that I had no worries about our choice! We stayed in the "Lily & Walter" Room. It was very nice, little small, but cozy. The bathroom was just outside the bedroom, and was very clean and very large! Bonus for us girls! The entire house is a beauty, outside and inside. You feel like you are stepping back in time with the decorations and furniture. Teresa made us our breakfast, cinnamon and white chocolate chip scones with sweet cherry sauce, AMAZING!!! Teresa was very friendly, yet professional, and her and Don sat with us during breakfast telling us stories about their home and their lives together. What a warm, fun and happy couple Teresa and Don are. They make you appreciate the smaller things, and if you're lucky, they'll tell you the name behind the "Lily & Walter" Room

My husband and I were looking for a quiet peaceful place where we could relax and get away from our busy hectic life. Although it was only 1 1/2 hours from our home, we felt like we found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. We loved EVERYTHING about The Housley House! Our two night stay was delightful. Our hosts were so gracious and by the time we left on Tuesday, it seemed like we knew Teresa Marie and Don all our lives. We stayed in the Dillen Room. The room was furnished with beautiful antiques, as was the entire house. The Housley House is exceptionally clean; well decorated; welcoming; comfortable; friendly--all the attributes you look for in a getaway. My husband and I spent a lot of time swinging on the huge front porch, surrounded by the beautifully decorative gardens. The view and peacefulness of the Maumee River brings a soothing and romantic experience to this setting. From the moment Tom & I stepped into this place, we felt as though our hosts bent over backwards to make this a truly relaxing and inviting place. I can tell Teresa Marie takes pride in creating the homemade breakfasts and evening treats she serves as each came out as a work of art and tasted fabulous (oatmeal pancakes with fresh blueberry syrup, scone with orange glaze, blueberry bread pudding, strawberry shortcake) Yum!!! To top it off, Teresa Marie directed us to area attractions such as the Isaac Ludwig Mill and Providence Metro Park historical mule drawn canal boat ride. She also printed us off discount coupons for our evening dinner with friends. We found the entire experience most outstanding and we are looking forward to attending one of the upcoming events planned. When you stay at the Housley House, you will be intrigued by the amazing story of the paths that led Teresa Marie and Don to Grand Rapids and proud owners of the Housley House. Don't forget to ask about the matching candelabras.

Gary and I chose the Housley House B&B as the location for our wedding and honeymoon and it was perfect!! There is absolutely NOTHING that TeresaMarie or Don could have done to make our stay any more memorable or more amazing! Teresa anticipated our every need and want and provided before we even knew we wanted it! She is the queen of spoiling and I can't recommend the Housley House any more highly. She gave life to my dream wedding by performing our ceremony at sunset in the softly lit English Garden...I will never forget how wonderful she made our stay. We didn't want to leave and actually stayed a second night; unwilling to leave the beautiful house and our gracious hosts. We will most certainly be returning soon!

This is the most wonderful getaway, even with the rain. Teresa & Don truly have a gift of hospitality. Teresa prepared delicious treats each morning and delivered them to our room for breakfast, and added homemade apple dumplings in the evening. They were willing to sit and chat with us, and gave excellent recommendations to local sites. The rooms were cozy and extremely quiet (though completely booked while we were there.) The river walk and quaint downtown area are within walking distance. We intend to return when the gardens are in bloom. We felt like we made new, lifelong friends.

"My husband took me on our annual "anniversary" B&B trip, which we started at our 10th anniversary because I NEEDED time away from my darling children. We have done this four years in a row, and this was definitely the best trip by far! The room was amazing ANd affordable (off-season rates probably helped that). We stayed in the spacious Dillin suite, which I highly recommend. It has beautiful, floor-to-ceiling bay windows that overlook the river, with a large bathroom that included a lovely jacuzzi tub (delightfully roomy for one, a bit cozy for two, but cozy is what you're looking for on an anniversary trip, anyway! ). The decorations of this 1880-ish home really added to the experience, and the garden sounds like it's divine (in Feb., it just looked snowy!). The breakfast was sumptous, but in the end, it was good that we had so much food, because we spent TWO HOURS lingering over it as we all enjoyed the company of our vastly entertaining hosts. Whether they're telling the story of how they met, the incredible circumstances of their lives before that time, or the amazing tale of how they came to own the home, they were by far the most enjoyable part of the trip. At times I was vastly amused, other times humbly moved, but always enthralled. I can't wait to return, both to enjoy the front porch (which looks like it would be heaven in warmer weather) AND to hear more of the hosts' wonderfully entertaining stories. This B&B was definitely a bright, warm spot on a cold winter's day.

A group of us love getting away together and we have never stayed at a B&B. My wife went on line and saw that the Housley House did Murder Mysteries and so we booked the whole house for our group. What fun we had! Don and Theresa Marie were great hosts. The food, the wine and LaRoe's were pleasant surprises. We dressed up, had wine and cheese at the B&B then walked down to LaRoes restaurant for dinner. We had so much fun having everyone watch us. It was alot of fun and we will be back for their April fool's day Murder mystery. We are all teachers and faculty and would highly recommend the Housley House Bed and Breakfast to anyone. It is remarkably clean, the food is unbelieveable and the hosts spoil you.

I have been wanting to visit The Housely House for years now and have finally convinced my mom to go there for a relaxing weekend! It was great to spend time in the beautiful house with Teresamarie and Don! They are so hospitable and wonderful! The food that Teresamarie prepared for us was amazing! I am going to have dreams about her scones for a while now! I could not have asked for a better weekend and it was all because of this beautiful B&B in Grand Rapids!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Housley House in November up in the Dillon Room. The room has this gorgeous picture/bay window that overlooks the river and downtown Grand Rapids. It was just beautiful!! Theresa Marie had a bottle of red wine (my favorite!!) waiting for us which we sipped as we talked and enjoyed the scenery. The next morning we woke up to a wonderful breakfast basket outside of our room that had coffee, scones and very yummy yogurt granola parfaits. It had snowed overnight and as we ate our breakfast, downtown looked like it was a throwback to a whole other era-almost like a horse and carriage might go down the street!! Overall, we could not have asked for a more perfect setting nor more hospitable hosts!!

Recently I have been battling alot of medical issues and my husband knew exactly what I needed! He booked the Dillin room at the Housley House Bed and Breakfast for 3 days of perfect rest. Together, Jim and Teresa Marie spoiled me with a heavenly massage in the privacy of the room and a warm jacuzzi afterwards. The robes that Don and Teresa put in all the robes are so soft that I never wanted to get dressed! Then Teresa Marie brought not only breakfast up to us (which was SO GOOD) but she also fixed us a special candlelit dinner. I went home ready for the next batch of battles and I know that come June we will be returning for another week of relaxation. Thank you Teresa and Don for being everything that we've been looking for - close to home. You are a great asset to Grand Rapids and our community!

From the minute I met Teresa Marie I knew that she would make our wedding day perfect. We rented out the whole bed and breakfast for my parents and Dave's parents. I think they enjoyed it even more than we did. Whenever we couldn't find them, they were out sitting on the porch swing watching all the activities and listening to the river. Teresa Marie took care of every detail with our wedding and our parents. The 6 of us gathered in the garden, around the antique fountain and with Mark playing the guitar it was the perfect setting for our dream wedding. Teresa Marie's style of officiating the wedding is what we've always wanted. She had all of us crying and the German Chocolate cake that she made for me was so good. We loved our weekend and will be back every anniversary. Our parents booked a Murder Mystery weekend already at the Housley House!

I drove 12 hours, just to try out this B&B, and I am so glad I did! I just wanted to unplug from the world and relax, and you can't help but do just that! This was really the most hassle-free and enjoyable stay I've had in a very long while. If you're ever in Grand Rapids, OH (or even if you're not) you owe it to yourself to find this beautiful house and visit for a while. Everything from the hospitality to the food to the atmosphere here is more than warm and welcoming. You'll love it!

Since this lovely B&B opened, I have been contemplating a stay at Housley House. Finally, the day finally came. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed my time there. The long summer evening was spent on the wide, breezy Victorian porch with tea and warm cookies. The bed was cozy; the bathroom luxurious. And, in quiet of the morning, I walked by the Maumee River enjoying a mug of coffee as I watched a Great Blue Heron hunting on the river bank. Then, there was that scrumptious breakfast on the porch (I highly recommend the peach scones!). The innkeepers - Don and Teresa Marie - were warm, attentive and generous. It was a weekend well spent and I hope to return soon.

Very comfortable, relaxing, quiet. The Dillin Room is exquisite, light and airy...could have stayed there all day!

My husband and I stayed at The Housley House in June for our anniversary! We love to stay and bed and breakfasts and rarely do we find that both the house is extraordinary as well as the hosts! In The Housley House, you have it all! Great home, great people! We have visited Grand Rapids many times over the years and now we feel like we have new friends there because Walter and Lily (aka Don and Teresa Marie) are such wonderful people. We watched a storm from the front porch, walked downtown to dinner and around Grand Rapids, did a little shopping in Perrysburg (only about 20 mins away) and just relaxed in the lovely Dillon suite with its amazing view. The food! Oh, my, it was wonderful! I loved the cinnamon rolls and the scones! We even bought some to take home! If you're looking for a beautiful house, friendly and wonderful inn keepers, in a quaint little town with lots to do, then this is the place to stay! thanks Don and Teresa Marie for sharing your home!

We just spent 2 perfect days with Don and Teresa at The Housley House. There were 4 overworked, stressed out Moms that walked into the house, but 4 relaxed, rested and happy women that left Monday morning! We shopped downtown at the unique stores in Grand Rapids, had a delicious lunch on the patio at LaRoe's, walked along the river and then enjoyed wine in the garden of the B&B under a beautiful trellis. We talked and laughed for hours. After we had great pizza a Mama Teresa's (almost next door to the B&B) we came back to sit on the porch with Don & Teresa. The shared history of the B&B and stories of the community. Then Don took us on a lantern walk down the tow path of the canal. Don is full of stories, although we aren't sure if they are all true! LOL When we returned Teresa had freshly made, right out of the oven apple dumplings with ice cream waiting for us on the porch. YUM! Then we went upstairs, to a little sitting area to talk late into the night. The next morning we went downstairs to fresh coffee and our choice of spots for breakfast. We picked the side porch because it offers a beautiful view of the Maumi River. Teresa served us warm blueberry bread pudding, black raspberry scones with a delightful white chocolate glaze. Both were amazing and I was satisfied with those, but then she served an egg casserole and bacon. I have no idea what was in it, but it was great! All this with coffee and orange juice. We lingered over breakfast enjoying the fact we did not have to do the dishes. Then we walked around town some more, stopping in a few shops and enjoying the slow pace of the small town. We did not want to leave and look forward to returning maybe in the Fall for another Girls Get-Away! We recommend The Housley House 100%!

We recently spent two really relaxing and enjoyable days at Hously House. It is a wonderful old 1840's home overlooking the Muumee river and the breeze coming off the water makes sitting on the huge porch a real delight. Our innkeeper is a most gracious hostess and the food is wonderful.

If you want to visit a town that has beautiful nature walks, lots of outside activity and the best little "Paris" eatery called LaRoe's - Grand Rapids, Ohio is one that you don't want to miss. What is even better is now they have the Housley House Bed and Breakfast. You don't even feel like your amongst the tourists and locals. We sat up on the swing, watching the rapids roll down the Maumee River and enjoyed all the activity of the town, without being in the middle of it. That swing is the best spot to hang out for the day! Teresa Marie even served us her Raspberry scones with her tea out there. The room was 5 star! The bed was just perfect for a good night sleep, the linens were not your normal department store type, they were good linens! And Don and Teresa Marie had bath salts, homemade oatmeal soaps, a basket of cookies and scones to nibble on and a refrigerator stocked with water, pop and wine if we wanted. We really couldn't find one thing that we didn't like, except that our time ended too fast. The best part was breakfast! My husband requested sausage biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes and bacon. She cooked all that plus cinnamon rolls and ruhbarb crunch! We were unable to eat the rest of the day. Her lifetime of baking has made this the place we will be returning to, often! Thank you Don and Teresa Marie for giving us a reason to return to your quaint little town.

What can I say, but Thank You to Teresa Marie and Don for a Wonderful time I had spent at Housley House! The hospitality and warm atmosphere was wonderful! Mary Jane and I always take a spring bike trip to our son's house in Chicago. We start in Dayton and bike along the country roads all the way up to his location. This year our vacation fell early and we didn't think we'd have the weather to take the trip but we did! I found the Housley House on your site and Nancy fell in love with it. So we called Don and Teresa Marie and booked 3 nights with them and what a hospitable couple. Now we have found our spot to land at the 1/2 point each year we go see the family. They even locked our bike up in the gated garden for the night so we wouldn't have to worry about it being stolen. Teresa even did my laundry and packed us a goody bag with her scones and fresh fruit and tea. If you want a place that has it all, go see Don and Teresa at the Housley House in Grand Rapids, Ohio and tell her Dave sent you!

My husband brought me to the Housley House B&B to stay the day before I was to go into the Toledo hospital for more cancer tests. He knows I have a hard time getting my mind on what is ahead and he found the perfect thing to do it! Teresamarie knew about my situation and was as sweet as she could be. She even made me chicken and noodle soup from scratch because she knew I couldn't eat anything heavy and my taste buds just haven't been the same. But they enjoyed her cooking. The specialty tea that she serves with the soup and sugar cookies were just what the doctor ordered. We will be coming back monthly and staying with Don and Teresa and what a deal they gave us as repeat customers. I dreaded leaving Indiana but found home at the Housley House.

This Christmas our family rented the Housley House out for the week and we had a blast. The best part was that I did'n't have to bake or do dishes, Teresa marie did all that for me and fixed all the kids favorites. It really ended up being alot cheaper than going to Southern Ohio at a lodge like we usually do. Teresa marie planned out every day for us with all the arrangments made and my son and his fiance even decided to get married while there and now that Teresa marie is ordained to officiate weddings it was perfect. Now every anniversary my son will be coming back and we plan to return in April. My husband hasn't stopped talking about her baking and the grandchildren loved playing with her legos!

Our main goal was to get away for a few days for some down time. Our objective was more than met at The Housley House. We did not really expect to be made over as much as we were. We are already talking about when we should go back.

This was our first visit to a Bed and Breakfast so we did not know what to exepect. We came to the conclusion that our one night stay here was better than our 7 night honeymoon. We were so pampered and they took really good care of us. Staff was helpful in telling us about the town, and historical facts about the house and area. We enjoyed the walking paths, great food, and comfortable bed/room. Thank you Teresa Marie and Don for a romantic weekend. The scones and dumpling were one of a kind! You have a giving heart full of hospitality!

Even though Grand Rapids is only a few miles from our home, we have found the spot that we call our "home away from home". We love coming to the Housley House because we can enjoy the beautiful hidden English garden and have that romantic moment together with all the trees light up at night and the wine that Teresa marie always has on hand and then laugh together on the porch while eating her apple dumplings. Its hard for me to relax but I find it easy at the Housley House. We've stayed in each of the rooms and can't decide which one we enjoy more. Each bed creates the magic of sleep whether we are sleeping in the rose room and have the sound of the waterfall to enjoy or the Dillin room and have the sound of the Maumee river or the Walter and lily room which has the sounds of crickets. We found this place 1 year ago and have been back 5 times already. But who's counting!

My husband & I visited the quaint resort village of Grand Rapids, Ohio and stayed at the Housley House Bed & Breakfast. It's a great B&B where you can relax in a swing on the side porch, take a canal boat ride, or shop in the many stores along the main street. Our room was perfect in every way, including our own jacuzzi and featherbed mattress. The breakfasts are gourmet fare prepared by innkeeper, Teresa Marie. Teresa and Don, the innkeepers, will do whatever is necessary to make your stay all you hope it will be. Don't miss this one; we plan to return when we can.

All we can keep saying is "WOW!" Dave and I were just driving through this small, quaint town when we decided to stop and see if this amazing B&B had an opening. Much to our delight they did and the rest is history. We not only had a wonderful time, but Teresa Marie's scones and apple dumplings set it off! We feel like we've met long lost family! And this is our spot for now on to run away to!

The food was fantastic. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The gardens are full of flowers and the owners/hosts are as nice and as accomodating as we could have ever imagined. What a great place!

When we arrived Teresa marie had pulled out all the details. From the chilled champaign, roses, chocolates and awesome scones to the robes that were warmed, candles lit and so much more! This was my our first stay at a bed and breakfast and it was everything that we hoped it would be and more! It was a wonderful, romantic getaway! We stayed in the Dillin Room...it was beautiful! The spa tub...the four poster bed....the comfy chairs by the window that look out at the river...the delicious wine and divine food...aaahhhhh, now that is being pampered!! Theresa Marie and Don were the warmest, most welcoming hosts! They are exceptional people that have made an art of pampering their guests! I have already been singing their praises to all my friends! And making plans to return!

"Come in thru the garden gate...I'll have warm apple dumplings waiting for you". Wow, 22 years of marriage and 9 bed and breakfasts and this is the best one yet. The owners, Don and Theresemarie, really have a gift for making you feel welcome. We stayed in the Dillon Room and it was wonderful. Great views, comfortable bed, nice sitting areas to read or relax in. The breakfasts were delicious. It was recently a pleasure for my wife and I to spend a weekend in Grand Rapids, Ohio. The community can be justifiably proud of its many lovely homes, interesting shops and heritage. The high point of our Grand Rapids experience was our stay in the Housley House Bed and Breakfast. This is truly the crown jewel of Grand Rapids’ many lovely historic homes. We have stayed at many fine bed and breakfasts throughout the midwest and the Housley House ranks among the very best. We look forward to sharing this discovery with our family and friends.

I was looking for a place to stay one evening and it was meant to be when the place I stopped at first wasn't opened and when I walked down the street to the restaurant they told me about The Housley House. I travel through this small quaint town often with business and have been looking for a better place to stay and I have found my forever spot! Teresa marie and her love for spoiling people have landed my business! Whatever I needed, she took care of. Free wireless internet inside that huge home, in the privacy of my room, if I wanted to sit outside on the porch or in the garden. I am going to love that the next month I am there! She even brought me coffee to my room at 6:00 a.m. so I could work at my own leisure. I loved her scones and even took some home for my wife to taste. I know she will have to come with me one of these trips. So, whether you are looking for a day trip, vacation spot or a place to rest on a business trip - The Housley House is my pick of places to stay in the Northwest Ohio area! - Columbus

I had such a lovely evening at The Housley House B&B. It was my first time in a B&B, I was most impressed with the experience and felt very pampered. Even more so that you had a living room for me to enjoy and the fact that I could fall asleep in your tilt back chair and did so. I can assure you that when I get back into the area to perform again, I will be staying at The Housley House. I have told so many people of the time at this place and hopefully one of them will be inspired as I was to come and see this beautiful place with a very special lady.

This was the first time that my husband and I have ever been to a bed and breakfast. It was by far the most beautiful house I have ever seen. We have been married for 13 years and have never had a honeymoon. We stayed in the Dillin Room and it was definately worth the trip. The food was to absolutely die for. Theresa Marie and Don were very friendly and great hosts. They make you feel right at home and we really enjoyed their company. After staying at the Housley House, we will definately stay there again and tell everyone we know about it. Thank you again for making our first bed and breakfast very memorable and relaxing. My husband and I decided to spent our 36th wedding anniversay and stay at the Housley House. I had stayed in January for a Girls Weekend and had such a great experience and wanted to share it with my husband. Another couple came with us to celebrate with us and she was one of the girlfriends that stayed in January also. Teresa Marie out did herself and prepared a wonderful dinner for us. The chicken cordon blue was to die for. We had apple dumplings for desert and it melted in your mouth. Yummy. One of my husbands favorite and she didn't even know this. Our breakfast the next morning was outstanding. Fried apple fritters were to die for. Everything was delicious and no one walked away hungry. We stayed in the Dillon Room and it was great. I loved having coffee and looking out the window at the river. We played "Catch Phrase" Don and Teresa joined us.We had alot of fun and lot of laughs. We have stayed in many B&B's over the years and have never made it a point to return. Especially a month later. Teresa and Don makes you feel like it is your home. They are truly warm and caring people who love their home and love sharing it with other people and their community. Michigan Friends

Never before have I had the desire to comment in a review of my stay at a B&B. However, the B&B Keepers at Housley House & English Garden in Grand Rapids, Ohio are sufficiently qualified to put that city on the map for anyone who needs to feel welcomed and receive warm hospitality of a unique nature. Our small group of Red Hat Ladies stayed there on a snowy weekend and found that each of us felt we had been transported to the highest level of relaxation and pampering that we had ever encountered! Teresa and Don have a level of warm, caring and open hearts that we have never come across in all the years any of us had ever stayed away from home. They, not only had a snack out on our arrival to welcome us, which was a thoughtful treat. Theresa Marie brought in warm brownies at midnight, as we were sitting around chatting & watching a movie. The rooms were extremely clean and inviting. After sleeping in the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in anywhere, other than home. I truely had to make a decision whether to lay there the entire day or rush downstairs to sit quietly with my cup of coffe in their lovely living room to view the Maumee River. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality and presentation of our breakfast. The best of any of our experiences anywhere! Our spirits and our hearts felt lifted, pampered & renewed as if we had just expierenced a treasured moment in time! We visited the unique and friendly shops in the area and had a great time. As I left, I recommended to Theresa and Don that they become consultants to other B&Bs what it means to be in the business of hospitality. Five stars...Nothing less!

The Housley House was the perfect place for our girls weekend. We stayed in the Rose Room and the Lily Room. Both of them were great. The beds are so comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Teresa Marie and Don are very special people. We felt as if we knew them for years. We enjoyed the quaint town of Grand Rapids also. We are looking forward to our return in February. This is a must for those who enjoy staying at b&b's.

Lee and I haven't even been gone 2 days and we already are missing The Housley House! Its almost too good to be true! Thanks to Don and Theresa Marie we had a wonderful time, loved being taken care of, the yummy food was WOW and the extra night. They even played cards with us. We can't wait to come back. Thanks to Don and Teresa Marie we had a most beautiful and romantic wedding at The Housley House. Everything was perfect from the flowers to the holiday decorations, to the beautiful honeymoon suite. And the food! Just wonderful! They both made us feel welcomed and we knew we made the right choice to have our intimate wedding and wedding night there. We will be back.

I am looking out the beautiful bay window at the sunset. What a view! The charming town of Grand Rapids, Ohio and the beautiful meandering Maumee River. They belong together, and this lovely old home is the crowning glory of it all. We have stayed in many places in our 11 years together and THIS ONE IS THE CREAM OF THE CROP. This was our first B&B ever and now we plan on coming here often. The food was amazing, we are still talking about those scones, and I keep asking my wife "when do I get pie at bedtime?" We had a great time with Teresa and the weekend was very relaxing.

We're going back in 21 days!!..Teresa Marie and Don made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The Dillon Room is elegant, from the 4 poster bed to the oversize tub. Grand Rapids is a quaint town where one can sit in swings on the banks of the Maumee River and completely unwind or swing on the front porch and watch the world go by. We enjoyed awesome oatmeal pancakes in the English garden. Worth the trip.

I visited the Housley House twice during the month of June, 2008. The first one night stay was random a selection through B & B .com. The second was a two night stay with my in-laws. The first consideration for our selection was location. Housley House ( in Grand Rapids, Ohio) is situated on the banks of the Maumee River about 25 miles south of Toledo. Grand Rapids is a very small town with about 50 commercial establishments including restaurants, gift shops, antique shops, and other businesses. Basically, providing everything you need without going to Toledo. The Housley House sits right at the edge of town overlooking the river. This B & B is a century old victorian home with three guests suites including your own bathroom. The interior decorations are beautiful, all in the victorian motif. The rooms and interior are spotless, the furniture comfortable, and the outside front porch and backyard English Garden provide two exceptional bonuses to the property. Sitting on the front porch in a long wicker swing, you can spend hours just watching life go by or reading a good book. The English garden provides more privacy and very appealing landscaping. Speaking of food, prepare yourself for a breakfast extravaganza. It's a three course affair starting with home made scones with special orange sauce. The second course is a cheese, potato, cream, white chocolate combination. This is followed by a bowl of black berries and cream and white chocolate. There are many activities in and around Grand Rapids to work off the calories. Long walks by the Maumee and adjacent canal are great. Bike rentals and canoe rentals are also available for the more adventureous. However, the primary reason we will continue to return to Housley House is Teresa Marie and Don Williams. Without a doubt these two individuals are the most gracious hosts we have ever encountered.

My plan was to stay in a B&B for one night for a quick break, and instead I found a Victorian mansion in a dream-like village with hosts that made me feel relaxed and welcomed. Don helped me carry my bags from the car and gave me the grand tour and history of the place. All of the rooms are incredibly beautiful, but the Dillin Room where I stayed is the perfect "honeymoon suite" - spacious, comfortable, charming, romantic. I spent the afternoon on the front porch, playing music and talking with Teresa who is a warm, caring person. In the evening I ate at one of the town restaurants, which was very good food at reasonable prices. The next morning I enjoyed a good breakfast, with coffee on the porch swing in a gentle rain. Later, I took a walk by the river and explored the shops all morning. I found every one of them to be full of unique items and friendly shop owners. Before leaving, I had lunch at another restaurant and enjoyed the food there as well. I could not have asked for a more perfect getaway!

As soon as my husband and I walked into the Housley House we felt envious. We stayed in the Dillin room and slept like we better than we had in a long time. The wine, chocolate cheesecake before bed, crepes in the morning with the most outstanding apple crisp that we had ever tasted, all top the most perfect weekender that we've taken. Don's humor and Teresa Marie's sense of caring and gentleness will bring us back many more times. This was the perfect close to home getaway, perfect price and perfect hosts! We didn't want to leave!

I can't imagine staying at a chain motel when this charming getaway is available. It felt like staying a night with relatives. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and the food was delicious. The hosts make you feel like you own the place.

Recently, my hubby treated me to an escape weekend. From the moment we approached the stately Housely House, it was like we were escaping to another time. The grounds were beautiful, and as it was a snowy day, the whole scene looked just like a Currier and Ives etching. The house itself is a testament to 19th century craftsmanship and 20th century skilled restoration. I felt a sense of calm and wonder went I entered the house; I was "blown" away by the beautiful woodwork, the priceless, vintage lighting, the charming decor...it felt like I was stealing a chance to stay in a house that had over a century's worth of stories to tell. All the rooms in the inn have their own brass nameplates; all have a distinct beauty and charm. The beautiful garden area in the back would provide a perfect setting for anything from a wedding to a family reunion; I plan to visit it in the spring or summer when the flowers are in bloom. Although the town has a variety of unique shops, and there are several wonderful new malls and a number of great restaurants a short drive away, my hubby and I found ourselves wanting to return to the inn and the calm it had to offer. Our room provided a beautiful view of the river below, and the whirlpool tub in our connected bathroom was a real treat. We were thrilled to find a wonderful midnight snack on our table waiting us. Best of all, perhaps, was the delicious breakfast we were served the next morning. The night before our innkeeper, Teresa, asked what we'd like to eat and where we'd like to be served, in our room or in the (beautiful) dining area. Leaving, I really just felt refreshed and happy (and convinced we'll make a return trip). So, our escape trip was worth every piece of dirty laundry and every messy room I had to return to. Plus, now I know an escape is only a phone call away! I highy recommend The Housely House with its English garden and charming hosts.
