What a great place to stay. The Inn Keepers make you feel like family. Our room had it's own entrance and we were free to come and go without intruding. The breakfasts were great and home cooked. Everything was perfect!

My wife and I originally planned to stay at the Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast for two nights. But we found that we were enjoying our time there at the Garden Gate Get-A-Way and surrounding area that we stayed an additional night. We would have stayed longer if we did not have other obligations at home. We enjoyed eating in some of the local Restaurants in the area, eating in an Amish home, taking a bus tour with Herb Steffey as our tour guide and bus driver, seeing areas of Holmes County that we would not otherwise have seen, if we had not taken the tour. Things that made our stay more enjoyable, was having TV and Internet Access in the room; the very nice Breakfast each morning and decorations within each room that we stayed in. We also enjoyed the campfires and conversation around the campfire in the evening.

The Garden Gate Get-A-Way B&B met our expectations! It was peaceful and situated in a beautiful setting. The rooms were clean and the food delicious! Herb and Carol were friendly. They provided us with folders full of suggestions on what to do and where to eat, including directions!

We were first timers to a bed and breakfast and had a wonderful stay. The food was great with plenty of it. The nightly campfires were the perfect way to unwind for the night. The hospitality was awesome.

This is our fave b&b, we stay there every time we go up to the Amish area. The suite was lovely and spacious, breakfast is a small buffet but we don't want a lot to eat so this is great, Carol makes great coffee cake, and there is also an egg dish and fresh fruit and Amish granola and Amish bread etc. so you won't go hungry.

I really enjoyed my time at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast. I felt like the B&B was a nice country setting. It was nice having the Amish farms neighboring the property. The B&B is far enough away from the tourist trap of the area. But close enough that if we wanted to be part of it we could be. Herb & Carol was very knowledgeable of the Amish and the area. They were very nice host. I do hope to return again someday

Herb and Carol do a wonderful job with their business. You can tell they really like people. They are nice, friendly, and very knowledgable about their area and how the Amish live. Breakfast was yummy with a wide variety to choose from. Room was clean and well stocked. Jacuzzi was bery inviting.

We spent a relaxing weekend with close friends. Took Amish two hour culture tour on Friday afternoon, and dined in Millersburg at Bags Pub before enjoying the evening campfire. Began Saturday with a delicious hot breakfast and headed out on all day tour of local vineyards. Highly recommend this inn. Herb and Carole make everyone feel at home:)

This was our first time to Amish Country. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Quiet and peaceful location. Loved the spaciousness and decor of the cottage. The nightly campfires were a nice treat. The grounds were beautiful. Many of the neighbor's horses came up to the fence for picture taking. Carol and Herb, owners, were so helpful with suggestions for sightseeing and dining. Joy and Glen

If you're looking to spend a weekend deep in the heart of Amish county -- this is your place! Keep in mind, though, that practically everything is closed on Sunday so it should be your day of rest too. The cottages here are definitely the way to go.

We have traveled all over the world, living in China for 4 years visited over 100 countries on 6 continents. We recently decided to "find" the United States. After several years of traveling to more than 30 states, this rates as our #1 choice in relaxing, beautiful, care-free vacations. This B & B is truly awesome. Carol and Herb work hard to see that their guests have EVERYTHING. From the big screen t.v., wireless internet, fresh cookies in the full kitchen, candy on the night table, even a hair dryer in the bathroom and gourmet shampoos and bath salts. Carol's breakfasts served on lovely pottery were freshly cooked and amazing. Their notebooks with maps and names of places selling genuine Amish goods was most helpful but Herb's van tour to the back country of the Amish with visits to unique places that we could not have found on our own, was truly wonderful. They even arranged for 3 couples of us at their B & B to have a private dinner with a friend and Amish neighbor. The visit with that family was very special to our trip. They were lovely people with a beautiful home. The Garden Gate's gardens are beautiful, the rolling hills, the fireside chats at night in the lovely garden, the horses in the pasture all make for a dream vacation. Don't miss this one! It's a real jewel. I even understand that they have special rates in the winter. Wouldn't THAT be lovely! Lynda and Richard - Houston, Texas

This is our third stay at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed and Breakfast over the past four years. This time we brought friends. Herb and Carol are excellent hosts and always have answers to our questions about the area. The rooms are always nice and clean. They freshen up the room and provide delicious cookies baked every day. They promote the area with tours and offer dinner in an Amish home. Their professional /excellent website tells it all.

I stayed at the Garden Gate Get-a-Way from an early check-in (before noon) on Aug 7 to also an early check-out (before 8 am) on Aug 14, 2013. I was in the area to attend a continuing education class to maintain my license for Massage Therapy, so I left before breakfast every day I was there. Carol put out a very nice breakfast every evening for my early rise. I woke to start my Tai Chi Chih every morning in the garden. The stars were out when I started and 30 minutes later as I was wrapping up the sun was out and the horses next door were completely visible, the birds were singing and the Amish wagons were making there way to their meeting place. In the evening when I got back there was a camp fire going in the garden and many guests to share the day with. The innkeepers Herb & Carol Steffey made very good recommendations for places to go for dinner and they also joined in at the campfire in the garden. They went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable and meaningful. I really liked the atmosphere and the views of the country side. I had an amazing stay.

After doing much searching, I found the perfect place to stay at for our 40th Anniversary. Out in the country, quiet, wonderful gardens and a super place to relax. Herb and Carol were wonderful hosts. They have a book of area attractions for their guests to browse through. We had a delicious brunch on our 40th Anniversary at a winery that they recommended. Carol made a delicious breakfast for us each morning that was a true delight to enjoy. I highly recommend the Garden Gate Get-A-Way to anyone looking for a relaxing B&B.

This is everything a B&B is supposed to be. Relaxing, comfortable, clean, and absolutely gorgeous. Herb and Carol were impeccable hosts. It was the most memorable and relaxing two days we have ever had. I truly hope we are able to make the trip from New Mexico again sometime, and for a much longer stay.

Garden Gate Getaway is a beautiful b&b. We stayed at the b&b with friends and attended a wine tasting that Carol & Herb organized. This is the way to go, you can drink all you want and Herb will make sure you get back to the b&b safe and sound. (they have a bus and drive you for the wine tasting/dinner)

Garden Gate Get-a-Way was the perfect answer for out weekend away. Situated in the heart of Amish Country, it is tucked away on a quiet hillside. The room we stayed in was comfortable and I believe the best bed I have ever slept in!!! Breakfast was delicious and Carol and Herb attentive Innkeepers. 5 Stars in my book!

We had occasion to travel to the Amish country, however had only one day so we booked our room with the extra tour offered by Garden Gate Get-A-Way. In just two hours we were able to learn SO MUCH about the Amish as Herb is a wonderful tour guide. Suggestions offered by Carol complemented the tour and we enjoyed lunch in town at a real Amish cafe and dinner in the home of a charming Amish family. She was even able to give us directions to a store which carried the exact items we were looking for. The B&B itself is just lovely. The pictures do not do it justice and the breakfast was WONDERFUL. Thanks a million Herb & Carol. Hope to return.

Spent couple days in October at Garden Gate in one of their cottages which was awesome. We love the area that the B&B is located and in the Fall it was beautiful driving the countryside seeing all the farms and fall colors. The cottage is spacious and modern with all the amenities one could want. The hosts Carol & Herb are great meeting all our needs and wants. The evening campfires are really great too! If you want to stay somewhere special this is the place.

We had a superb experience at the Garden Gate Getaway B&B! They provided such attention to detail - from the rooms (we stayed in the Magnolia Room - perfect for us) to the scrumptious breakfasts, the fireside and breakfast chats, the binder that quickly became our "bible" just chock-full of directions, tour loops, area recommendations for shopping, dining, or just plain trolling around and the family feel you get when you walk in - this was a truly wonderful experience and one we will happily come back and have again! Thankyou Carol & Herb!!!!

This Bed and Breakfast was above and beyond my expectations. The innkeepers are both extremely helpful and gracious. The room we stayed in is amazing. The quiet was oh so relaxing. The evening campfire was a welcome retreat. I only have one negative about our stay: We had to leave We will definitely go back again...

Very rural and quiet with campfires etc. Near Amish attractions such as Berlin's Rolling Ridge Ranch. Nice place to stay when watching the Wooster College Ohio Light Opera. Get landmarks if coming late from the Ohio Light Opera (but they will leave the light on)

We went for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary and it was just terrific. We had the Wine and Cheese Platter add on and just loved it for our first night to relax with. We had the Garden Gate Suite with the jacuzzi, it was beautiful and relaxing. We sat by the campfire our 2nd night and enjoyed the company. Loved the flower gardens that surrounded the bed and breakfast. Our host were terrific. We loved the fresh breakfast each morning. Everyone was just so friendly and wonderful to talk with. Can't wait until we go back again. We normally go to visit the Amish area for a 1 day trip but really enjoyed spending a relaxing 3 days there. Jay and Sherri Clark

We loved the accomodations in our elegant Garden Gate Suite. The amenities and activities provided were outstanding: chocolates, fresh cookies every day, soft towels, fragrant soaps, shampoo, and lotion, nightly bonfires, 2 hour tour on inn's tour bus, and suggestions from 2 knowledgeable innkeepers on places to visit, great restaurants to eat at, and fun activities to do while in Amish country. We learned so much interesting history about the area, its culture, and the people in Holmes County. We will be back to visit soon.

We stayed in the Falls Kiss Cottage, and it was a wonderful mix of elegant and comfortable. With the mini-kitchen we were able to enjoy a couple of meals in. The giant jet-tub was wonderfully relaxing, and the porch swing over-looking the horse pasture was a delightful way to welcome the new day. Carol and Herb's hospitality was outstanding and very welcoming. Loved the fresh cookies each day. Their location puts you in a quiet setting that is near many of the area's attractions. Well worth it!

Herb and Carol were wonderfully accomodating. They are very knowledgable about the area and made wonderful suggestions for meals, activities, and wineries. Our room had a binder which listed several suggestions for self-guided tours of the area based on one's interests. (ie, wine and cheese tour, furniture and antiques tour, etc.) Each suggested tour had detailed directions and a highlighted map of the area. Very helpful!! The breakfasts were delicious! The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The sheets were at least 600 thread count. There was a satellite TV with a DVD player. A plate of homemade cookies were delivered each day and locally made chocolates every evening. The in room robes were extremely comfortable and the complimentary toiletries were high quality. A wonderful B and B with high quality ammenities and a competitive price. We stumbled upon this inn quite by accident. We are extremely grateful we did and look forward to our next visit.

Try and make it to the campfire they have each night, Carol and Herb are there also and it is nice sitting out there just listening and enjoying their and others company. We will definitely be going back.

We love staying at Garden Gate Get-A-Way and would never, ever think of staying anywhere else when visiting the Berlin, OH area. During our several stays there, we have never been disappointed with any part of our visit. The breakfasts are delicious and the conversation is wonderful. Carol and Herb are very knowledgeable about the Amish people, and have wonderful maps to use on personal tours. A few times, we have wanted do something special; Carol was happy to make reservations and made sure we had complete directions. The gardens are beautiful and attract so many gorgeous birds and butterflies; it's so peaceful to sit outside on one of their many benches or rockers and enjoy the pasture view while listening to nature at it's best. What I love the most is waking up to the birds joyfully bringing in the new day of adventures that await us!

The Garden Gate room was beautifully decorated, had a fireplace and a jacuzzi. There were fresh flowers in the room when we arrived. The innkeepers were very friendly and shared many stories with us. We had a relaxing time sitting by the fire each night after a long day of shopping and driving around the countryside. There was lots of information shared with us in a binder that we had available to take with us during the day. I can't share anything about the inn that was a disappointment other than I am not an early riser and would have like to be able to have breakfast a little later but I knew that breakfast would probably be earlier that I preferred before I booked my stay.

This was quite possibly the most delightful stay we have ever had anywhere. The Garden Gate suite was large and beautifully furnished with Amish made solid furniture. A cozy fireplace, Jacuzzi (and comfortable robes), and wonderful bed removed any tensions that you might have arrived with. Fresh flowers and chocolates by the bed added the perfect touch. Truly nothing more could have been added. The inn is located outside of the town of Millersburg on paved but lightly traveled roads, adding to the peace and serenity that the Garden Gate Get-a-Way epitomizes. And yet it is only a short journey into town with shops and Amish restaurants. The mornings begin with a sumptuous buffet breakfast prepared by Carole, the proprietor. Let her know what your plans and needs are and they will be met. Be sure you get some of her mother's chocolate chip cookies!! This was certainly a little bit of heaven in Ohio's Amish Country.

We went to the B&B during the week because our grandchildren are involved in many activities on the weekends. Even though it is the middle of the winter the weather was beautiful. we had a great time and the Herb and Carol just filled the rest to make it a memorable time. Rooms and facilities are impeccably maintained. Carol and Herb know the county inside and out, and provide detailed maps and self-guided tour instructions or a guided tour in their tour bus for the less adventurous. Evening bonfire is wonderful especially in the cool fall season. Very peaceful location with Amish buggies passing by and horses grazing in the adjacent fields. Rockers, swings, and chairs abound for outside reading, contemplating, and visiting. Very peaceful retreat for any season. All room amenities are first-class, including high-count cotton very smooth sheets and thick towels. Cottages are like efficiency apartments with private deck overlooking Amish country. Cottage guests, however, cannot utilize the common room or breakfast room for technical legal reasons but they can share in the nightly bonfire and conversation. Highly recommended for a reasonable price.

This was our first experience at a B&B and I cannot say enough about how wonderful the experience was. The location, the inn keepers, the facility itself which had the most awsome, comfortable, Amish built king size bed, (wanted to take that home with us) and of course the beatiful scenery of Amish country and let's not forget the fabulous shopping!!! Loved every second of our stay - if you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle this is the place to stay!!!

Decor of wallpaper could stand some updating and maybe less wallpaper. Comforted by the innkeepers statement of on-call 24/7. Couldn't imagine bothering them at 2 am but if they were truly needed, we could contact them. Rooms and common areas were immaculate. Breakfast was quite yummy and plentiful in a relaxed environment. It is obvious they spend alot of time tending to the beautiful grounds, which we loved. There is a certain "flavor" to many B & B's that in large part is due to the innkeepers personalities. Carol & Herb were very outgoing, friendly with the ability to immediately put you at ease. They were very knowledgable of the area and gave us many helpful suggestions of places to visit. Will definitely return again and recommend Garden Gate to friends and family without hesitation.

This was the first time for us in a B&B. The hosts were gracious, breakfast was delicious. Everything about our stay was worry-free, laid-back and relaxing. The room was beautiful - can't think of a detail left out. We are considering making this a regular destination.

Room was clean and well decorated. The shower with separate temp control was a great surprise. Water and chocolates were also a pleasant surprise. The fireplace chat made this a homey memory.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this B&B in the heart of Ohio's Amish country. Our room was super-clean and comfortable. Carol and Herb Steffey's hospitality and attention to detail shows in the many amenities available in the room and in the other areas of the inn. At the delicious breakfasts and around the evening campfires, Carol and Herb shared their knowledge of the local culture and provided expert help in planning sight-seeing itineraries. This was our first visit to Gadren Gate Get-A-Way, but I hope it will not be our last.

Very nice little place, and very nice owners/hosts. Many little amenities (TV, campfire, Amish dinner and tour) that added up to a lot.

Centrally located to many highlights in Amish Country. Innkeepers hospitality is outstanding. They will be sure you enjoy your stay in Holmes County. Dinner with Amish neighbors can be planned-an insider's experience.

Herb & Carol are very friendly, and knowledgable about the amish and are helpful with suggestions with new places for you to visit. They are interested in you as a person, and love to share experiences with you as well. Our children picked this as a 40th wedding gift to us on line, sight on seen, and because of their helpful web site, they couldn't have picked a better gift. Thank you Herb & Carol, for making our trip such a great one.

Simply the best. Attention to every detail. Allready planning a return visit. After reading the reviews I thought we might be dissapointed with the buffet breakfast. Boy was I wrong. Everything was made fresh, a great selection from main dish, delicious baked goods, fresh fruit and juices, home baked rasin bread. I helped myself to seconds and took a muffin for later. It looked delicious and I was too full to eat another bite. Also, Herb and Carol were there to help plan the day. Highly recomended.

We had a great 2 night stay at the Garden Gate. Herb and Carol know so much about the Amish Community... all the locals know about them and how wonderful they are. The room was new, clean, and it truly did transport us from the routines of everyday life into a whole new wonderful experience!

My Wife and I celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary and had the Priviledge of staying at the Springs Desire Cottage at the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast. My wife was completely surprised and the Innkeepers were nothing but spectacular.. The Decor in this Cottage was awesome and the views of the Countryside were breathtaking. I will recommend this stay to anyone who asks, what a great experince for our first time at a Bed and breakfast. Thanks Again, Ken and Tina.

This is our second time at this B&B and again our experience was fantastic. Carol and Herb were again delightful, the food delicious and accommodations warm and cozy. My husband and I and some friends of ours were there for the Murder Mystery weekend. What a hoot! Would do it again. Thanks Carol. Thanks Herb.

We just returned from a visit to Holmes County Amish country and were fortunate enough to have stayed at Garden Gate Get-A-Way B&B. It was the perfect atmosphere for a comfortable, well located lodging choice and the innkeepers, Carol and Herb were welcoming, friendly, well informed and anxious to make our stay and that of the other guests a truly delightful one. The rooms were cozy and clean, the food was incredible and the gardens were lovely. It was the perfect place for a weekend getaway and we have already recommended it to others.

Carol and Herb were the friendliest of hosts of all the B & B's we have stayed at in the Homes County area and we have have stayed at 5 or 6. We will definitely visit again. We are planning to invite several other couples to go with us the next time. Maybe for one of their special weekends. Particulary our favorite authors weekend.

This was a great place to get away from it all! Calm, quiet countryside. All our needs were anticipated ahead of time. The breakfast was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful stay at this B&B. Owners could not have been more hospitable or accomodating. We attended their very organized and detailed wine weekend. Room was immaculately clean, towels fluffy, soaps topnotch, bed comfortable, common room with full sized refrigerator, coffees and teas, CD and VCR in room. Selection of movies. Breakfasts were lavish and delicious. All combined it made for a lovely stay. We want to return.

We had a wonderful stay at Garden Gate Get Away. It was absolutely the cleanest place we have ever stayed. The breakfast offered had a good variety and everything was fresh and delicious! We selected this B&B because of the Murder Mystery option. It was a great time. 6 of us were able to come and stay in the same establishment and enjoy an evening of great food, fun, and mystery. We will be back for another visit!

You will never be disappointed when you stay at Garden Gate. Carol & Herb are the friendliest people and make you feel like family the first time you meet them. The rooms are spotless and the amenities are wonderful. We wouldn't stay anywhere else. If you've never been there you don't know what you are missing.

A weekend (or better yet longer) with Herb and Carol can restore peace to the mind and vigor to the body. Garden Gate Get-a-Way's location in Ohio's Amish country is simply ideal for leaving a hectic, responsibility and deadline laden world behind and rediscovering how a simpler & slower world allows a person to regroup and relax. The amenities are first rate, Carol's cooking is second to none and the fellowship of the campfire can't be beat. My wife and I used to never repeat stays at B&Bs but after staying with Herb and Carol a few times all other B&Bs just aren't the same.

We had a wonderful stay in the Garden Gate Inn. It was freezing outside, raining, and we were warm inside! The fireplace heated the room, which was perfect! Thank you, Carol and Herb, for a memorable trip. We look forward to returning in the warm weather to enjoy your gardens!

Spotlessly clean in every way! Breakfasts were superb, all dishes were homemade and bountiful. Innkeepers are well acquainted with Amish culture and all there is to see and do. Recommend to anyone, however, if you like to have a window in the room, do not book the Rose Garden room. It is lovely, but when we arrived, the room did not have any windows. We wanted a king bed, so that is why we chose that room, my mistake. All the amenities one could ever want were provided. This B and B is located in a quiet, stressfree location with a gorgeous view.

We spent three nights at this lovely B & B. Herb and Carol have gone out of their way to learn about the community and were able to share so much information for touring, even arranging a meal with an Amish family. We stayed in the Garden Gate Suite. We had our privacy and it was quiet and had many "special" touches that other B & B's don't have. It was pretty chilly when we were there so we didn't take advantage of the bonfire each night but did enjoy the wonderful breakfast each morning and visiting with Herb and Carol as we planned our day. We would absolutely stay there again.
5 on November 15, 2010
Herb and Carol were kind enough to open their bed and breakfast to veterans for one free night stay, in honor of Veterans Day. We received the same amenities that paying customers would have along with a complimentary bottle of sparkling water and a wonderfully hot breakfast. Their friendliness and service inspires us to want to stay their again. I would highly recommend this facility.

If you want a relaxing, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean B & B in the heart of amish country, this is the place to stay! On top of that, Herb & Carol were delightful and so knowledgeable about the Amish and the area. The breakfasts were great and the snacks delicious! The nightly campfires were so relaxing and a great way to get acquainted with the other guests. The bed was so comfortable that I wanted to take it home. Overall the price was reasonable for everything that you get. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

My husband Dave is retired from the Air Force and when I read in the paper about some of the B&B's offering a free stay for Veterans I inquired and found Garden Gate Get-A-Way was offering this package. I wanted to let my husband know how proud of him and other Veterans for their service in taking care of us. We to my fault ended up getting the dates mixed up and received a call from Carol to see if we had decided not to come but I told her we where going to arrive the next day and she reminded me that I had my dates wrong but she allowed my husband and I to come up the day I was planning on. We had a good laugh when she told us that the other Veteran's had a good laugh over an Air Force man messing up but it was his wife not him. Carol and Herb showed us such a wonderful time. The B&B is beautiful and they make you feel right at home. The camp fire out under the stars was so much fun and Carol has so much knowledge about the Amish we were amazed. We had such a relaxing night and the breakfast was beyond words all home made food including the bread. We highly recommend this B&B and have been telling all our friends. God Bless You Herb & Carol for remembering our Veteran's who have made our ability to enjoy such things as your B&B. Angela Higley

I brought my friend to Amish country to get away for some very much needed rest. She was so happy with our quiet cozy room and especially appreciated 600 count Egyptian sheets. We really enjoyed our stay and were treated like family by joining Carol and her family in her kitchen for a lovely breakfast and great conversation. I would recommend the Garden Gate Get-A-Way to friends, and will probably come back next year.

I am used to staying in hotels, but stayed in several B & Bs in Ireland and England a few years back. This was my first stay in a U.S. B & B and it went way beyond my expectations. Carol was lovely and very informative. I stayed in the room named The Potting Shed. Since it was a reunion with friends from New York and Ohio, the Common Room was a perfect place for the 4 of us to "catch up". Each room was beautiful and the amenities were superb. Carol made reservations for us to eat with an Amish family - it was great. Elsie (mother of 9 children), was a delight and we so enjoyed meeting her family. The food was wonderful, too! We definitely will plan to stay at the Garden Gate Get-A-Way again. The only thing we missed was the bonfire (because of rain). Maybe next year!

Holmes County in the autumn is beautiful but Garden Gate Get-A-Way adds a campfire and spotless rooms with the most comfortable bedding - it is a real luxury at a very fair price. Our group used 3 rooms for 2 nights (Luxury suite -fireplace and plenty of room; Potting Shed - so cozy, roomy and great location; Briar Patch - super room - adjoins the Potting Shed and has an entrance also into the common room. All these rooms have an exterior door which is very important to us. ) Parking is fantastic. The property is very close to all the activities but far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful. The Innkeepers (Herb & Carol & Bev) are outstanding. I honestly cannot think of anything negative about Garden Gate Get-A-Way ! Ron & Jan Columbus Ohio

The web site for this inn is very descript and quite acturate. We were so pleased with our stay that we plan to return in the summer. Have stayed in B&B's before, but this was the most relaxing stay! The nightly fire is a great touch on those chilly October nights.

You always do a wonderful job making people feel very much at home. The accomodations are very nice and the food is plentiful and a good combination of food types and textures. Loved it! Carol and Herb have a real gem wit Garden Gate Cottages. We stayed in Falls Kiss - it was lovely. Seemed very new, everything was beautifully maintained and the cottage had everything you could ask for. From the large jacuzzi tub, rocking recliners, flat screen TV with satelite, comfy queen size bed with lovely sheets and bedding to a great little porch where you can feed apples to the horses. It felt very private, yet could also join the nightly campfire if you wanted to. The rasberry coffee cake was awesome too. We hope to visit again! Eileen and Tony Chardon, Ohio

We enjoyed the friendliness of the owners and the people who also stayed there when we were there. The service was more than we expected. Food was great, and of course, our anniversary package was excellent!! We had a great time. All the flower beds, the peacefulness of the countryside, and hearing the clip-clop of the horses as they passed was a real treat. Thanks so much!!

Beautiful scenery driving down the country roads. Enjoyed the little shops. Herb & Carol were awesome. Very friendly. Enjoeyed the nighttime campfire. It is very important to us to have a home cooked breakfast and a comfortable clean room. We would have been more satisfied with mort of a traditional breakfast however, the breakfast that was prepared was fine. The room was very nice and clean, but the bed was as hard as a rock. The evening fire was very nice and we will return in the future.
I would like to respond to both comments. Regarding the breakfast, we serve a traditional breakfast but it is served buffet style. Thus we are not sure what this guest meant by "traditional" unless they wanted to be served. Regarding the mattress, we have received many compliments in our guest room journals and in person about how comfortable our beds are and what good night sleep the guest had. Our deluxe rooms have pillow-top or pillow-soft mattress. Our standard rooms have deluxe mattresses which are a step above regular mattresses. We do understand that every person has their own idea of what "comfortable" means in a mattress and feel bad that someone did not get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately they did not bring the bed issue to our attention or we could have moved them to another room with a different mattress type.

The amenities were great. Special touches like the time around the campfire. Herb and Carol were very helpful with suggestions for local interests.
We're very happy that we met the guest expectations for our rooms, service and value and even exceeded their expectations in cleanliness. We are a bit puzzled about their disappointment in our breakfast. Each morning we make a hot egg dish from scratch and serve that buffet style along with homemade bread, homemade coffeecake, homemade muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and a couple of juices to choose from. We even have a cereal basket including locally made granola for those guests that don't want to eat eggs. The bread, coffeecake and muffins are made from scratch in our kitchen and not purchased elsewhere. We're puzzled as to what they didn't receive that they were expecting????

Garden Gate Get-A-Way was a wonderful experience for my wife and I. The owners exceeded our expectations with their being willing to help with whatever was needed. Breakfast was wonderful. The evening fire was nice to get to know others staying at the bed and breakfast as well. The owners also were very helpful in giving you the info on where to go and where not to go for food and shopping. It is also nice that it is out of the way a bit from Berli so you can "Get-A-Way" and unplug for a time. We would go back in a heartbeat.

We were very pleased with the accomodations and the hosts, Herb and Carol. The breakfasts were very good. The rooms were well kept and quite adequete. One of the nicest things is the "backroad" tour guides that come with each room. It is easy to find the "commercial amish businesses" but Herb and Carol have put together maps of all of the out of way places that are a must see for anyone interested in the real amish experience. We are planning our next visit to The Garden Gate B&B and recommend them to anyone wanting a top of the line visit.

We were very pleased with our stay at Garden Gate. Having never stayed at a B&B we weren't exactly sure what to expect. Herb and Carol are very social, fun to be with, VERY knowledgeable regarding the Amish culture and what to see while you are visiting Amish Country. They also make it clear they are at your disposal at any time. Carol's breakfasts are so yummy! We even skipped lunch because of how filling they were. Beds, pillows and towels were great. Everything was very clean. We loved the campfire and the cows and Belgian horses in the pasture. Also the country setting is so peaceful - great for taking walks. We would definitely recommend this B&B. Doug & Marcia

Garden Gate Get-A-Way is a FABULOUS place! There is no where else like in in the Millersburg/Berlin area. We visit this area both Spring and Fall of each year. Over the years, we have stayed at several different places - both hotels and B & B's. Once we found Garden Gate, we have never stayed any place else. Herb & Carol are FANTASTIC innkeepers! They make you feel like family from the minute you arrive. The different gardens they have created are the most peaceful and tranquil places to RELAX! We always take time to do just that by swinging or gliding and listening to the birds or the clopping of the horses passing by, watching the butterflies and bees interact with the flowers - I could go on and on. The evening campfire is like the icing on the cake! Peace for the soul! Believe it when I say, this is the place for a true garden get-a-way and time of renewal! We have always been blessed in a new way while visiting the Garden Gate Get-A-Way!

We just returned from a weekend at Carol & Herb's B&B, completely delighted. Beautifully decorated -- each room with a distinct theme -- and clean, clean, clean. Carol and Herb do it right. Great attention to detail, from the water and chocolates in the room, to treats every evening in the common room, to making a fridge and microwave available to guests with hot drinks available 24/7. For anyone staying, we recommend the driving tours that Carol and Herb have put together -- unusual places and small Amish businesses -- away from the commercialization of Berlin. Their directions to these out-of-the-way places are great. The location of the B&B is nice -- out in the country with plenty of country roads to walk in the evening or early morning. Campfires in the evening for the guests. Breakfasts include a hot entree along with tasty homemade pastries and bread. Everything is fresh and well made. We were much impressed and intend to return.

Our stay was awesome at Garden Gate Get-A-Way! We loved being in the middle of Amish country. We had great food, a great room, and great outdoor experiences. Loved having a campfire at night also.

We just came back from Holmes County for a couple of days of furniture shopping. Never stayed at this Bed & Breakfast but certainly was not disappointed! The room was very clean and well stocked with all that you would need for an overnight stay. What drew us in was the book one night and the next one is free. From the snacks to the fabulous breakfast, campfire and great hospitality we decided we will be back at this place again. Another feature we liked was the notebook they created with maps, places to see and the step by step directions on how to get there and you can take the notebook with you in the car.......great idea! Thank you again for a wonderful Get-A-Away!!

This was the first time we had ever stayed at a B & B and the Garden Gate B & B was by far better than any of the 5 other hotels that we stayed at on our trip to Ohio. They had a great winter special, if you stayed on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday you get the next night free. It was less noisy and we could get a better night sleep. The food was freshly made compared to some of the dry food at the hotels. The Garden Gate had delicious french mints and home made cookies that were there through the day. This was a great place to stay at. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Beautiful accomadations and great hospitality. My wife and I don't even refer to Garden Gate by name we just refer to it as Herb and Carols'. We always have a great experience and really enjoy the outside evening campfire. Just wish we could get down there more often. Oh,did I mention it's a great value also? Herb and Carol are exceptional hosts!

Herb and Carol, the proprietors of the Garden Gate Get-A-Way, have a knack for making certain that you have a fantastic time while staying at their B&B. The rooms were clean, the sheets were out of this world soft, they provided bottled water and wonderful Amish made chocolates in your room, and breakfast was always fresh and homemade...didn't see any prepackaged goods except for the little cereal boxes. Their knowledge of the surrounding area and the customs and beliefs of the Amish were very helpful. One thing that we really liked was the "info" book that was in each room. They typed up various routes to explore the area with helpful hints. My husband and I were there for the wine tasting weekend and we can't even begin to put into words the fun we had with Herb and Carol as well as the 4 other couples. p.s. the evening campfire is a very nice end of evening touch.

My husband and I stayed at the Cottages at this Establishment and participated in the Winery Tour. We were looking for a weekend were we could "GET-A-WAY" from the everyday struggles of life! Although there was plenty to see and do in the area, it was so relaxing to go back to the grounds of the B & B, and enjoy a glass of wine from the local surrounding vendors. They held a campfire at night for the guest, it was a great opportunity to mingle with some of the other guest that would be joining us for the wine tour! We highly recommend this place for whatever occasion. It is truly a couples retreat! Thank you for a weekend we will NEVER forget!

Carol and Herb are great! The food is EXCELLENT and they have gone to a lot of work to offer extra opportunities. From their special weekend events to their self-guided back road tours, this is an excellent place to meet old friends or make new ones.

My wife and I are tried and true Bed and Breakfast devotees. Typically, we have avoided Ohio's Holmes county, basically due to it becoming overpopulated with gaudy, tourist-trap type of establishments, especially in the Berlin area. Normally, we only visit the area to walk the back roads (dirt), to eat at the few remaining small, authentic restaurants or to shop at the bulk food places. However, when my wife stumbled upon Herb and Carol's two night stay/one night cost offer during the late winter, we decided to bite. Unfortunately, we did not experience Carol's breakfast, since we opted to sleep in each morning (a rare treat), but we were definitely impressed with the environment, room and Carol's enthusiasm and warmth. The house was nicely nestled away from traffic which easily allowed for accessibility into the depths of the farmland for walking. It was also extraordinarily quiet, a great help for weary hospice workers. The room was immaculate, spacious and with every amenity that could be hoped for. I liked their concept of having a room available with a fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, etc. in which guests could store perishable items and/or prepare small meals. Carol's late afternoon cookies were a smashing success with this reviewer. I guess the best thing was our privacy! We could come and go without having to socialize with anyone...exactly what we wanted after many months of working with people in hospice...we just wanted to be alone with one another. So, thank you Carol and Herb! We will return!!!

This was our 4th stay at this lovely, quaint, B&B. We love it and have had the pleasure of staying in 3 different rooms now. This was also a new season to visit and must say we find the winter season a great time to get away to one of our favorite places. Herb & Carol and Carol's mother are all so delightful and are continually working to enhance the beauty and welcoming atmosphere one finds here. We heartily recommend this B&B to anyone desiring a special place to retreat and be renewed.

Overall, our experience was very nice. I gave the dining a lower rating because I felt they were trying to cut corners when it came to the food. I just expected more than a cold cut sandwich for our murder mystery entree.
I would like to respond to the Dining comment in regards to the murder mystery. When we advertised Murder at Mardi Gras the food description read, "The murder mystery will be played in rounds which will include appetizers, sandwich, and dessert". The menu that this person refers to included 1st Course: Shrimp with cocktail sauce, cheeseball & crackers service and New Orleans Hurricane Punch; 2nd Course: Mardi Gras Slaw with breadsticks and wine; 3rd Course: New Orleans Muffletta Sandwich (which does include cold cuts) with Chips, wine and beer; 4th Course: Caramel Praline Ice Cream with Cookies and coffee. Every murder mystery has a food budget. If we are serving wine and beer then the menu may be more appetizers and sandwiches to offset the alcohol cost. The menu is always advertised in advance before making a reservation. This menu was chosen specifically to keep with the New Orleans Mardi Gras theme and spices.

We have stayed at over 100 B&Bs and prefer them over hotels. This is a gem in Holmes County that is quiet, clean, lovely, and the innkeepers are wonderful. If you are looking for a romatic get-away, or just a few days of relaxation, this is perfect.

We went and spent our first Valentines Day together at the Garden Gate bed and breakfast. We really enjoyed our time. We thought Carol and Herb were great people. The place was very cozy and clean. We liked the breakfast it was great. We loved the homemade cookies and brownies that was made. These small touches I think just makes this place more special.

If you want to have the best in everything, then Garden Gate Get-A-Way will exceed all your expectations, from the room to the breakfast to your surroundings and to the innkeepers, Herb & Carol. Detail is detailed :) This is our second time staying there, and this time we stayed in the room with the jacuzzi and fireplace, and we were able to stay two nights for the price of one! In the summer, you can sit around a warm, inviting camp fire with other guests -- however, this time of year, we decided to stay in our own room with our own fireplace :) but if you want, they will make an outdoor fire!!! THANKS again, for the best time.

We have been to other B&B's, but Garden Gate Get-A-Way has far and away outshone them all. The accomodations were perfect and the attention to detail in making our stay as pleasant as possible far exceeded that of any other B&B we've stayed with! The fresh fruit, homemade bread and coffeecake and other wonderful victuals started our day off in the right way! There were even homemade goodies in the "common area" for those necessary munchie moments! Carol and Herb also provide in-depth information about the area and share their favorites. They really cover it all...from soup to nuts! Kudos to Herb and Carol for making a difference!

Beautiful surroundings! Modern comforts in the middle of Amish Country. We loved the private entrances and all the beautiful touches. Our hosts took great pains to make sure that every detail was taken care of - their day trip book was amazingly detailed. There was something for everyone's interests. Would love to go back again when the gardens are in bloom.

We have traveled quite a bit and our accommodation of choice is usually B&B. This was by far the best experience over all we have ever had. The innkeepers were fantastic -- knowledgeable and helpful with all of our needs from directions, reservations and services. The rooms were great - beds comfortable bathrooms well kept and overall beautifully decorated. Breakfast was just right -- not too much after a long night and yet very very delicious! Overall -- we would rate this as one of the best experiences we have ever had! We can't wait to return when the weather is better and we can enjoy the gardens and outdoor facilities. We chose to spend the Thanksgiving holiday away from home this year so we decided to try a bed and breakfast. The driving directions sent to us allowed us to see much more of the area than we expected. Carol emailed us options for Thanksgiving dinner in the area and made the reservation for us. When we arrived Carol greeted us with a warm welcome and explained everything about the room, dinner on our own, breakfast and the campfire. Then she took us on a tour and explained what to expect for our couples massage. Herb and Carol are excellent hosts giving you privacy but still making you feel welcome. The campfire was excellent, I hated when we had to leave early to have the massage. Even though we stayed over a holiday and most businesses in the area were closed, Carol gave us suggestions and directions to a local theater with movie times and showings. I thought that was very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The buffet breakfasts, sweet treats left in the room and warm conversations were great. I would definitely like to go back in the summer so I could enjoy the swings and the garden.

Very helpful regarding the route's to take and the stores to go to.
This is the 1st time in the 7 years that we have owned this B&B that someone has rated our guest rooms a #2. I don't know what this guest expected but I would like to point out that all guest rooms have updated quilts, high thread-count sheets, 5-star bath amenities, complimentary bottled water, Coblentz Chocolates from the local chocolate factory by the bedside, CD-radio-alarm clock, in-room coffeemaker that comes with complimentary beverages, good quality chairs in good condition, television/VCR (DVD player in deluxe rooms, are extremely clean, have private entrance & private bath with full-size tub and shower, etc. I cannot imagine what they felt was lacking to rank the rooms so low unless they do not have the same taste in decor as us. I am also baffled that they rated cleanliness as a #3. Not only are the usual things taken care of like clean sheets, vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, etc., but headboards are dusted, baseboards are dusted, we dust over the tops of doorways and more. I can only think that this guest did not share our taste in decor and rated other items lower. The last thing I would share is that we have a Welcome Binder in each guest room that includes a welcome letter. In the letter we point out to our guests that we take great care in providing a clean and comfortable room and if anything accidentally got over-looked we encourage them to bring it to our attention so that we can tend to it immediately. Nothing was brought to our attention.

We arrived and Carol had already taken care of the details! I had asked about a back roads tour as well as dinner with an Amish family.Everything was arranged for us! I also loved the book that was in our room showing many different day trips as well as maps with detailed directions. It was great to actually go to Amish homes and see their craft in their homes. Another outstanding feature is the campfire each evening-a nice time to relax and talk aboutwhere folks are from and what they did that day.It makes you feel very much at ease! And the morning meal is served informally and includes outstanding choices each day! My favorite was the Amish granola bread!

This B&B is our favorite and we keep returning! This trip was for 3 nights. Garden Gate Get-A-Way is in a great location for easy access to the attractions of the area in Berlin, Millersburg, Mt Hope & surrounding communities. Breakfast is delicious and a very nice variety of offerings. The rooms are clean and the attention to detail is outstanding. This inn has many positives, starting with Carol, the innkeeper. Our room was very nice. Carol had a buck in our room that gave a number of possible routes through the area to do some exploring. This was quite helpful. Also, Carol arranged for us to have dinner with a local Amish family. This was an experience I would recommmend to any travelers to this area. The only thing I would say to fellow travelers is - don't pick this inn over another one in anticipation of what you expect to be a unique experience around the camp fire every evening. This feature is one that heavily influenced our decision to chose this inn. Other guests told us the same, but the weather just didn't permit it either of the two nights we stayed in this inn. The breakfast was good, but buffet style service is hard for me to rate as exceeding my expectations.
I would like to respond to the campfire comment. In 7 years of doing campfires I don't think that anyone who ever stayed 2 nights missed a campfire. Last week we had terrible winds up to 45 miles per hour on Monday and Tuesday. While they started to slow down Tuesday evening some rain/drizzle moved in and it would not have been a pleasant experience to get wet. We even build campfires in the winter when snow is on the ground, so if you are a potential guest please don't think that they are not a regular thing. We've had many guests return multiple times each year and while the campfire is a big hit, it is not what keeps them coming back. I would also like to respond about our breakfast. We make it clear when people make their reservations that breakfast is served buffet style. The egg dishes these guests were served were made from scratch. The bread, muffins and coffeecakes they were served were also homemade and made from scratch. There was fresh fruit each day and a cereal basket for those that did not want eggs. Not only was there coffee, but tea, hot chocolate and 2 kinds of juices to choose from. We have some guests that say it is our breakfast that keeps them coming back. It sounds like this guest preferred to have someone fix a plate and wait on them rather than let them choose what they wanted to eat. Had they made their discontent known to us we would have been happy to fix their plate for them and serve them. It is our goal for all guests to have a great experience at our B&B and in Amish Country.

My Mother-In-Law and I spent several days at Garden Gate. We drove from Colorado. Our favorite part was the campfire. The breakfassts were so unique and carefully thought out. There were so many special touches to the place that it is hard to mention them all. But a few would be...quaint brick paths that led to secluded areas to sit and relax with wonderful flowers, statues & benches. The evening snack, baking a black forest dessert in a cast iron skillet right over the campfire(way to go Herb!), wicker furniture in our room, available games to play, videos to watch, beautiful surrounding lavish green Amish countryside, watching the Amish buggies click-clack down the lane, a microwave & refrigerator to use, teas/coffee/popcorn, a local Amish cookbook to purchase, special pottery to remember the place, and many many more thngs. Thank you Herb & Carol for making the place & people seel like family. A truly unique experience.

We have always enjoyed our stay with Carol and Herb! We return every fall, as this is our favorite time of year. They make our stay so comfortable. Each room is very nicely decorated and makes you feel right at home. They always seem to have that extra special touch in all that they do for you. They are very informed about everything in the area from special events to Amish history and customs. The activities they provide, nightly campfires, Mystery dinners, Amish Back Road tours, and Massage packages are just a few examples of the great ammenities they provide and schedule for you. Herb and Carol are great hosts. They provided so much helpful information on where to go and what to do in the Ohio Amish country. The notebook in the room was great--told where to go for the best in furuniture, quilts, baskets, food, and other place that were not so "touristy". The location is great. It was so peaceful and relaxing to sit in the swing or by the campfire and listen to the horses and buggies clomping by and watch the precious Amish children walking and biking to school. We would definitely stay here again.

I especially enjoyed all the personal touches such as a note in our room wishing us a happy anniversary, chocolates by the bed, etc. Carol and Herb made each of their guests feel so welcome. This was our first time at Garden Gate and everything was a delight! The location is ideal - quiet and serene, yet convenient to all the must sees in Amish Country. The info binder in our room really helped orient us, choose what we wanted to see, and navigate easily to make the most of the time we had available. The website description of the Rose Garden room, where we stayed, was on the mark - it was very clean and comfortable. Both my husband and I thought the quiet room with its king size bed, amazing mattress and high quality sheets gave us the best nights' rest we can remember! Freshly baked afternoon snacks were a delicious treat and breakfast selections were a real YUM! The innkeepers were both very friendly and welcoming; having breakfast with them as well as chatting around the evening campfire were great opportunities to get to know them as well as learn a lot about the area and the unique lifestyle of the Amish who make it such a special place. Herb and Carol score high marks for attention to detail, personalized treatment and truly going above and beyond to ensure guests are treated more like friends! For all these reasons, our stay at Garden Get-A-Way was a lovely and memorable experience and we would certainly look forward to staying there again!

Since it is my dream to have my own B&B one day, I frequent B&B's whenever I vacation. My stay at Garden Gate was awesome! I was greeted in my room by the aroma of fresh baked cookies, classical guitar mixed with the sounds of the Amish countryside playing in the background. My bed welcomed me with the softest sheets preceeded only by the best mineral bath ever! I awakened n the morning to chirping birds, a clean, fresh breeze coming in my bedroom window and the babling sound of the fountain in the garden. These experiences name only a few of the thoughtful and wonderful touches that made my experience so peaceful and relaxing the night I arrived. I needed a mid-week get-away for R&R and with all of the hospitality, kindness, wonderful food, my experience was just what I had envisioned! It rained upon my arrival, so, rather than experiencing the anticipated campfie, I curled up with a great book on my overnight and headed to explore Amish Country backroads from Carol & Herb's tips the next day. When I returned to work only 2 days later, I felt like I'd been on a retreat for a month. A special thanks to Carol, Herb and your Mum, Beverly, for such a wonderful time. Don't forget to explore the ferry gardens surrounding the firepit, lots of beauty and surprises await you!

We were very comfortable at this cozy and pleasant B and B with our innkeepers being very hospitable to all of us there. The landscaping, the cleanliness of the rooms, the common room, the breakfast room, the nightly bonfire, and the vast amount of knowledge that Herb and Carol shared with us about their inn, the Amish and Mennonite culture and the niceties of bottled water, home made breakfasts, swings, birds, chocolates and friendly chats have allowed us to be at peace and very relaxed this summer. What a superb getaway for those people who want to immerse themselves in a very quiet and lovely surroundings. We will be back for sure.

Each night I sat outside by the fire getting to know the other guests and that fellowship was priceless. The food was so good and she had cookies at night too. Everything was homemade. The rooms were beautiful and she had a real eye for decorating and attention to detail. I have already recommended it to friends.

We were really impressed by the innkeepers' knowledge of the area. The binder of information and suggestions they have in the rooms is so helpful. Although we have visited the area several times before, through Herb and Carol's suggestions we were able to discover new places to visit.
5 on July 09, 2009
It was the best ever. We were made to feel like family immediately. The inn keepers have really researched the area and were so imformative and friendly. The campfire was key. We got to meet the other guests and learn about them. Super clean. We will recommend it to all our friends.

After staying the one night, we wished we could have stay longer. It was one of our most relaxing evening and night. Breakfast was absolutely delicious!

My wife and I stayed for three nights in Amish country for our anniversary. We stayed in the suite and found it to be an excellent value. The room was large and well appointed. With 2 reclining chairs a fireplace, a full bathtub and a two person jacuzzi tub the price was definitely right (generous even). The TV is not large, we couldn't get cell reception and the wi-fi connection was erratic, but to be fair this place is supposed to be a "get a way". Your wife will thank you for leaving those things alone guys. The innkeepers knew everything about the area and definitely never seemed put off by any questions or needs we had. They definitely will give you all the guidance you need to fill your daily schedule. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to fully experience Amish country in Ohio.

We very much enjoyed out stay at the Garden Gate Getaway. It was so quiet and relaxing. The inn keepers are very imformative about the Amish and the area. I would recommend this B&B to everyone. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and making us feel so welcome. We will be back.

The Garden Gate Get-A-Way experience we had this past weekend exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, Herb and Carol not only took care of our immediate needs, but also anticipated our needs throughout the weekend. They are extremely knowledgable about the entire area, and gave us excellent advise in regards to dining, scenic rides, and area attractions. And best of all, they treated us and their guests as "friends" throughout our stay. And the campfire in the evening was always a great ending to our day. Our stay was truly an "experience", and one we will certainly return to often. Dennis & Lisa Boose North Ridgeville, Ohio

We were excited to visit Garden Gate and the Holmes County Amish community. Both lived up to our expectations, and we plan return visits. My wife and I ended up changing our travel plans at the last minute due to a death in the family, and our hostess was very gracious and accomodating. Not only did Carol arrange for us to have a room for another night with almost no notice, she upgraded our room as well. Thanks tons! I can recommend Garden Gate Get-A-Way without the slightest hesitation. I also want to speak to the "little things" that set Garden Gate Get-A-Way ahead of the pack... Everything involved in your stay has been thought out, and value, respect for the guest, and quality of furnishings and decor have all been well-planned. Luxury at reasonable cost! I did not rate everything at the Garden Gate the highest ratings for one reason -- I had HIGH expectations -- and every one was met. Thanks for a great stay! Guy and Kathy

This is a B&B you truly must visit if you like rural settings and extremely friendly and helpful innkeepers. We stayed in the Rose Garden Room and have never been in a more comfortable bed. Our room was quiet and cozy with all the amenities you would find in the top rate hotel. Breakfast was delicious with home made treats. Time spent around the evening campfire with the Carol and Herb plus the other guests was a real treat. We will be sure to stay with Carol and Herb on our next visit to that area.

Our visit to the Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed and Breakfast was just wonderful. Carol and Herb clearly exceeded our expectations. This was our first time staying at a B&B and quickly learned that you have to be special people to own, and run a B&B. Herb and Carol Steffey are clearly the most special of people! It started with Carol's kind and accommodating voice on the phone when I called to arrange our stay. Carol and Herb went out of their way to meet our needs, to be attentive to all their guests, and to create a welcoming environment where all of us, as perfect strangers, enjoyed great conversations, heartfelt teasing, and laughter around the evening campfires. Herb and Carol, the innkeepers, were extremely knowledgeable about the general area, all of the must see attractions, and offered excellent advise on great places to eat lunch and dinner. Their morning breakfast was hot, tasty, and offered a great variety for all. My wife is a very healthy eater, so Carol and Herb went out of their way to accommodate her needs. Herb and Carol run a clean and efficient business, and they have phenomenal hospitality. We loved the map book that they made up for their guest to use for shopping and sight seeing excursions. We would recommend the Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed and Breakfast to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat, that is welcoming, clean and very much like a home away from home. In retrospect it is clear that our 3 day visit was a God send! I assure you that we will be back, and most likely with friends! Warmest regards, Dave and Laurie

We chose the Garden Gate Get-A-Way to celebrate our birthdays, which are only a week apart. We have stayed at many places: inns, lodges, cabins, camp grounds, motels, etc. Our stay at the Garden Gate Get A Way was our most pleasant and surprising. The rooms were spotless, the bed comfortable, the afternoon snack delicious, and the breakfasts were outstanding. The variety each day, the presentation and selection of the food on the buffet was a pleasure each morning. The conversation at the breakfasts was fun and stimulating, as was the campfire. We were given excellent suggestions on where to find good food, (especially the best place for ice cream!) shopping, and a hiking trail. The hospitality shown by our hosts, Carol and Herb left nothing to be desired. We definitely reccomend the Garden Gate Get-A-Way, and it will top our list of a return trip. The quiet, peaceful setting in the country was exactly what we were looking for and this exceeded our expectations.

Holmes County is a beautiful, friendly area to spend some quality time. We again stayed at Garden Gate Get-A-Way for 3 nights. Our 3rd visit with Carol & Herb. Everything again was spotless and perfectly executed! They took the time to make our son's 18th birthday special with cake & balloons! The food is great - a wonderful way to start a day of touring and shopping. We are never disappointed in our rooms and will be returning again in 2009!

I called almost at the last minute needing a room for only one night due to work schedule conflict and they were most gracious in changing the 2 night policy. Great room, great tourism tips, great restaurant recommendation and an overwhelming knowledge of the area, culture and customs of Amish Country. I have and will continue to recommend them and my wife and I will be back as soon as we can plan more than 1 or 2 nights.

We have been to Garden Gate Get-A-Way many times and we have ALWAYS been extremely satisfied with everything about our stay. The rooms are fabulous, clean as a pin and very tastefully decorated. The breakfast is beyond belief! One of the highlights is the fireside chats in the evening outside. The Innkeepers are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the Amish people and their ways. We consider the Garden Gate our "home away from home." We have never found another B&B that compares to them! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I had planned to take my best friend to a Murder Mystery at Garden Gate for her 50th birthday. I was VERY sad to hear just days before, that because other guests were not able to attend, the mystery had to be cancelled. After telling my friend that my surprise for her had been spoiled, we decided to go to Garden Gate anyway. I am SO glad that we did! Herb and Carol Steffey did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome and even upgraded us to a nicer room. The breakfasts were incredible and so was the company. We were so relaxed that we hoped to get snowed in! It didn't happen! I guess we'll just have to plan another weekend.

A very knowledgeable host and hostess willing and able to help us in our quest to see and experience a wonderful way of life. Thank you Herb and Carol for making our time in Amish country a joyful and rewarding time. We do look forward to returning in the spring and spending more time enjoying a simpler way of life. The room was clean, comfortable, and had several pleasing details/extras. The innkeepers were pleasant and knowledgeable. We loved the nightly campfire as a way to relax at the end of the day and chat with the innkeepers and other guests. The grounds were beautiful. The breakfast was tasty and ample. Our favorite part was the detailed information about the area, including backroads driving maps. Because of these handy maps we were able to experience the true Amish country and see things off the beaten paths, not just the tourist traps. Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.
5 on November 13, 2008
The notebook providing activities to do in the area with maps was extremely helpful. Carol and Herb interact with the people staying and my husband and I enjoyed hearing their stories about the Amish. It was insightful. Their hospitality was outstanding and I will recommend this bed and breakfast to others.

A warm and welcoming B&B that has a great location right amidst the Amish community. Charming rooms, delicious breakfasts, and an all-season nightly campfire with the proprietors. Share stories, wine, and hot chocolate with Carol and Herb and the other guests. Proprietors' have a vast knowledge of the Amish culture, local shopping, restaurants, etc. They provide self-guided tour options with detailed maps and will help to facilitate any requests you have. There are themed weekends and special package discounts. We HIGHLY recommended Garden Gate Get-A-Way.

This was our 3rd stay at a B & B in Holmes County. We will definitely come back to the Garden Gate Get-A-Way. Carol & Herb were so helpful in every way. Especially liked the direct access of the rooms to outside, the campfire, the dining room for breakfast and the common area, the availability to get coffee and cookies 24/7. Carol's cookies are really good!

Our stay at your lovely bed and breakfast far exceeded our expectations. It was such a welcomed change of pace staying at a location way out in the country, and the scenery was beautiful. We especially liked feeding the horses!!!!! Your place seems like it should be in a magazine or on a postcard. We especially were pleased with how up to date everything was in the room, and how clean it was. The bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets were heavely. We also appreciated the extra tiny things that make your place different than a motel, such as the bonfire, and kitchen, the delicious breakfast, cookies, and all the snacks that were offered. It was relaxing talking to everyone at breakfast --- the owners were extremely helpful answering any questions we had, and were just down to earth people . Since we are city folks, this venue was certainly different than what we were used to, and we loved every moment. We would without a doubt return to your place again. Thank you for your generous hospitality and kindness. We had an experience in Amish country that we will remember for a long time. We just ate too much!!!!!Roger and Joy

This was our first experience at a B&B. It was amazing. The campfires in the evening were very informational. They told alot about the culture and some of the hidden places to see in Amish country. Herb and Carol go out of their way to make you feel at home. The room we stayed in was extremely clean and beautiful. We recommand anyone that has never stayed in a B&B at Amish Country to stay thereor if you have please try them out you will not be disappointed. It is more than you could ever dream of.

Stayed for a weekend in October 2008. Such a peaceful, relaxing getaway. Loved the campfire. This B & B is in the heart of Amish community! Herb and Carol were wonderful hosts.
While a rating of 3 means that we met the guest expectations and a 4 means that we exceeded their expectations, most guests feel that we offer something more than other B&B's from our high thread-count sheets, to our down alternative comforters, to the 5-star bath amenities, to the homemade breakfasts made from scratch. We would love to have this guest contact us to let us know what exactly they felt was lacking at our establishment.

I've stayed in many B & B's but Garden-Gate is by far the one that once you've been there you want to keep coming back. Upon arriving at the Garden-Gate, you will be taken aback by the beautiful gardens, the awesome rooms and best yet inn keeper Carol. There isn't anything you could add to make it any better, it's all here plus some. If you want to feel special, you have to stay at the Garden-Gate, it's that awesome.

The breakfast offerings were plentiful and tasted absolutely delicious. We liked the variety at each breakfast - no one left hungry! The nearby horses, flowers, swings, fountains, evening campfires made the outside experience so peaceful and relaxing. Parking was very convenient. Our room was beyond outstanding in all aspects from decor, to luxury linens to furniture - beautiful! The extra touches that Garden Gate Get-A-Way provides are excellent from their wonderful soap and shampoos to fluffy towels and the mattress and pillows are so comfortable. Oh the chocolates are a great treat - as well as the homemade treat served in the evening. We just had a wonderful day at Garden Gate Get-A-Way and this was the first time we've been to a B&B that was really like what I expect a B&B to be. It was wonderful talking to the owner and spending time with her, her husband, and guest around the nightly camp fire. I can't wait to come again. Thank you so much Herb and Carol. You have a wonderful relaxing retreat there. I'm already talking to friend, and we are looking for a time to come in the near future. Thanks again for everything. Jim and Kathy

Since this was our first time at a B&B, we were a bit skeptical. The experience far exceeded anything we planned. It was the most relaxing 3 days we've had in a long time. The room suited us perfecty; it was homey and had enough space for us. I fell in love with the glider rocker in the room and am tracking down one for our home. The evening campfire enabled us to meet other guests informally and share events of our different days. This generated ideas for planning the next day's activities. It was so quiet, peaceful and relaxing, no one wanted to go back to their room. Herb and Carol are wonderful people who take a sincere interest in their business. They are very knowledgeable about the area and are extremely helpful with questions their guests have. It seems that they're always there, 24/7 for anything we need. They have the knack of making each guest feel that they are the only one there and therefore have 100% of their attention. We would highly recommend the Garden Gate to anyone. Richard & Theresa
While a "4" is a good review for "Value" I would like to respond that this guest received a $20 per night discount and still didn't feel that the value was excellent. They came with another guest that has stayed with us numerous times and as a courtesy to the "regular" guest we gave this room a discount as well. We are not a budget motel and have never advertised to be one. Our rates are higher than budget properties because even our standard rooms have 350 thread-count sheets on the bed, bed-side chocolates from the local chocolate factory, complimentary bottled water, 5-star bath amenities, homemade breakfasts made from scratch, and complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate & microwave popcorn. Our property has gardens with swings and gliders and an evening campfire as opposed to a parking lot or freeway view in many lodging establishment. We even arranged for this guest to take a tour of Amish Country. We regret that this guest did not feel that the $20 discount was worth the extras that they received, but many guests have told us that our rooms are under-priced for what we offer.

Deep in the middle of Amish country, lies this lovely B&B, surrounded by Amish farms. At night there is a campfire on the grounds. The hosts of the B&B help you learn so much about the Amish culture and where to go and what to do while you are there. It is the people you meet that make it such a wonderful experience.

We feel like a visit to GARDEN GATE provides us a 20% drop in our Blood Pressure. We look forward to many more visit's.
I would like to respond to this rating concerning "Value". At 1st glance people may walk in our guest rooms and say "it's a normal lodging room". After spending the night they realize that even our standard room is much more than your typical "standard" room. You will find 350-600 thread-count Cotton Sateen Sheets on our beds instead of 180 thread count sheets from a hotel supply that smell like bleach. You have over-sized bath towels instead of the cheapest, thin towels on the market. You will find chocolates from our local chocolate factory by your bed side. Instead of a small bar of deodorant soap you will find 5-star quality Shampoo, Conditioner, Honey Oatmeal exfoliating bath bars, glycerin facial soap, make up remover towelettes and herbal bath grains. We add lotion and body scrub in our deluxe rooms. You will find complimentary bottled water in your guest room. You also receive unlimited complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and microwave popcorn. Each evening you are provided with a homemade evening snack such as cookies, brownies, cupcakes, bundt cake, etc. Each morning your breakfast is made from scratch ... bread, muffins, coffee cake and 1 hot dish in addition to fruit, cereal, juice and hot beverages. Just as you pay more for an ocean view room vs. a parking lot view, our B&B has porch swings and glider rockers around the property that overlook our gardens. In the middle of the gardens is a fire ring, and every night, weather permitting, we build a campfire to gather round and relax. No other lodging establishment in our County offers that. Every guest receives free concierge services in that we will book tours, make arrangements for dinner in an Amish home or fine dining, set up spa treatments, book horse & carriage rides or hot air balloon rides, etc. It's the old story "you get what you pay for".

Herb and Carol are the most wonderful innkeepers. Their B&B exceeded my expectations! We had a wonderful, relaxing time and they provided us with not only wonderful breakfasts each morning, but gave us information to tour the countryside and set us up on tours. I even had a massage! What a wonderful and peacful way to spend a couple of days. Kudos to Herb and Carol! Patty Anderson Minnesota

We have returned to the enchanting B&B several times. The highlight of our stay is always the nightly campfire where most of the guests sit around and share their experience in Amish country and/or about their lives with the others. Some just sit and listen. Whichever type of guest you would be you shouldn't miss the opportunity to enjoy this lovely B&B. Also the breakfast bar is second to none! We will be going back this fall.

The visist was pleasant, a wonderful experience for it to be our first time visiting a B&B. The room was emaculate, the hostes and hostess were kind, professional and warm and the other guest were friendly, so it made our visit there feel even more at home. The hostess was knowledable of Amish life and was able to refer us to some attractions. What I really loved was the water softner, it soothed my eczema.
We need to better communicate our Sundays with guests. We advertise that we are closed on Sunday, which means that we do not check-in guests on Sundays. This couple stayed Saturday night and thought that we did not serve breakfast on Sunday morning because we are "closed on Sunday". The other 4 guest rooms made it to breakfast on Sunday. Our Saturday morning breakfast consisted of homemade bread, homemade muffins, homemade coffeecake, sausage & cheddar puffs on the griddle, cereal basket, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and 2 kinds of juices. Our breakfast buffet is served from 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. We regret that this couple came in to breakfast about the time we were ready to close and take down the breakfast buffet. While there was some of everything thing we served, there was only a couple of each by 10 a.m.

My wife and I made reservations at The Garden Get-A-Way on the recommendation of friends of the family. We certainly were not disappointed. The innkeepers Herb & Carol were most gracious and helped to make our anniversary a special occasion. Our room was immaculate and charming; the ambience of the gardens was delightful; the campfire discussions and camaraderie were very enjoyable; the continental breakfasts were absolutely delectable and the amenities were too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say it won't be our last visit to Carol & Herb's B & B! Rich & Jan Morelli

The innkeeper's service was outstanding and their knowledge and self guided tour maps were just uncomparable to anything I have ever seen at a B&B. I would refer all my friends to them.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Carol. She was an excellent hostess. We enjoyed relaxing on her many swings in her gorgeous flower gardens, take a walk on the road outside her B&B and getting to know other guests around the evening campfire. Her food was delicious! Her road trip maps of the area were easy to follow and took us to interesting places.

My husband and I celebrated our 5th anniversary at the Garden Gate. Our stay was wonderful. The room was beautiful, from the amazing fireplace to the Jacuzzi tub, totally top notch. Not to mention the delicious breakfast and late night treats. We love the campfire, it was a great chance to get to know the other guest as well as Carol & Herb. You guys are great host. We really liked the extra attention that you give to your guest, like the binder outlining all of the area attractions as well as directions. You have truly thought of everything. We look forward to coming back again, and will certainly tell all of our friends!!

Our room was very clean and cheery. The breakfast was more than we expected and we had great conversation with Carol, her mother and the other guests. It's a definite must to return as soon as we can. Chuck and Pat Spitler Gahanna,Ohio

We loved our two day stay here. Our room was lovely with a jacuzzi and fireplace and extra amenities that make a bed and breakfast special. Carol was fabulous.

We live in the area, but wanted to get away from the household/garden chores for a little while. The Garden Gate Get-A-Way was a perfect setting to relax as it is well kept and very beautiful. Breakfast was delicious; and the game room and outdoor gathering area, complete with fire pit, were great places to talk and enjoy socializing. The tour of Amish country was a wonderful reminder of why we love living in this area and a good opportunity to spend time together while getting reacquainted with Holmes County's attractions and beauty. Love it!

Everything about Garden Date was perfect!! Carol is an exceptional hostess and the garden suite was superb. I will certainly return to this outstanding B&B!!
5 on May 13, 2008
This was the best B&B we have ever chosen! A wonderful, beautiful place. Carol and her husband have thought of every need and much more! God bless!
5 on May 12, 2008
Carol and Herb went out of their way showing us a great time and helping us to experience the local culture. I would recommend this B&B to all who wish an informative and fun B&B adventure.
5 on May 05, 2008
I love to stay at Garden Gate Get-A-Way. It is so peaceful in the gardens and overlooking the rolling hills and pastures! The evening fire, the great breakfasts, and the king size bed are all hits. Carol and Herb share their knowledge of the best places to visit and where to get the best bargains. I have stayed at other B&Bs throughout the USA, and this is the best by far.
5 on May 04, 2008
Herb and Carol go out of their way to learn something of each of their guests and then to cater to each. They also have mastered the ability to give full attention to many guests making each feel as if they're the only one at the inn. Herb and Carol have surely found their calling.
5 on May 02, 2008
My husband and I always enjoy our stay at Garden Gate Get-A-Way. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. Carol and Herb are wonderful hosts. They make you feel like part of the family. We look forward to our next stay there.

Everything was absolutely perfect. The facilties and the room exceed 5 star hotels that we have stayed in. The food was excellent and the Steffey's were excellent hosts. Their detail to make you welcome and comfortable far exceded our expectations. They provided us with accurate maps and directions to several attractions. We would highly recommend this quiet and attractive Bed and Breakfast. We paln on staying here again in the near future.

Our sincere apologies for the inaccurate rating on the first review. One of the less computer-savvy of us hit "enter" prematurely. She feels just awful about this inadvertant downgraded rating. Apart from the breakfast voucher issue, we were extremely happy with the B&B, and would recommend it highly to our friends.

Accomodation was superb. Innkeeper very helpful and knowledgable regarding surrounding areas. Dinner at "Dorothy's Surprise" was delightful. Excellent massage. Only one glitch.....make sure that innkeeper will be there to provide breakfast for all the days that you will be there. We were given a voucher for a restaurant close by as she had another commitment on that day. The voucher was $10.00 for two (enough for a very light meal). The whole idea of a bed and breakfast is to have the breakfast at the inn and not have to go out. There is a delightful recreation room complete with a refrigerator. Some breakfast items could have been placed into that area instead of sending guests out for breakfast. Other than that, we would highly recommend this inn.
I would like to respond to each item rated as a "3". Value: When they stayed to nights they received a free 1-hour massage that cost the innkeeper almost 1 night revenue to pay the massage therapist. In other words if they had paid for the massage their room cost was about $55 per night and yet they felt the value was a "3". Service: The innkeeper was here to help map out directions where they wanted to go. The innkeeper booked a massage and arranged for dinner in an Amish home. Other than the morning that they checked out and the innkeeper was taking a class that involved 6 mornings, one of which they stayed here, someone was here to help them at any time. Dining: Our website describes "deluxe continental". One the 1st morning they were served an egg casserole, homemade bread, muffins & coffeecake, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate & 2 kinds of juice. The 2nd morning they were given a voucher to a local restaurant because 6 mornings out of a 365 day year the innkeeper went to a class to offer more services at the B&B. The restaurant suggested an $8 voucher to cover breakfast and they were given a $10 voucher. It appears that because this guest was so disappointed with breakfast on the 2nd morning that they rated down other services.

We appreciated the attention to details in our room and the guest amenities. (The cookies and candy were delicious!) Carol's "self-guided driving tours" of the Amish area expertly directed us through the countryside and to a great deal on baskets. We were also thrilled that the weather held out for the nightly campfire. Hopefully next time our schedule will allow us to stay for more than one night.
5 on April 23, 2008
This was a wonderful relaxing place to unwind! Carol was an outstanding hostess- so helpful! The accomodations were beautiful, and the scenery was lovely. THis was our first B&B wxperience. We loved it. We'll be back!

We stayed with Carol and Herb for a surprise birthday celebration weekend for my husband. The room was beautiful;the food was delicious;we had everything from an evening snack (birthday cake!) to many games from which to choose for an evening's entertainment as we relaxed. The very best part (and something that sets their B&B above others, was a loose leaf notebook in each room that was full of places and things in the area to see, and several mapped trips through Amish country on the backroads. We have lived in the area for 13 years, but saw thingw we had never seen before! We are very proud of our Agape Singer, Carol, and her husband.

September, 1998. We were just married a couple of days earlier and were visiting Berlin, Ohio. Somehow, our reservations at another motel were " lost ". The desk clerk told us about your B & B. We called and explained our situation to a nice lady on the other end of the phone. We were to told to come right over, as there was an open room for the next 2 days. We were put up in the Rose room. The next 2 days were the most enjoyable times on our entire honeymoon. We met some very nice people staying in other rooms and relaxed in the garden with these other guests. Thank you for your hospitality and genuine caring attitude toward your guests.

We booked the Garden Gate Getaway the night before we stayed, on a last minute whim. Going only from the internet, we were a little skeptical, but were thrilled with our accomodations and amenities. All the little nice touches to make us feel pampered were there, while at the same time, we felt right at home. Carol's recommendations for dinner and a great place to but Amish baskets were right on the money. I would love to go back when the weather is fine.

Carol and Herb were wonderful hosts making all the arrangements for a delightful weekend. We learned a lot about the history of the Amish culture over dinner at the winery. The food was superb and the company interesting and lots of fun.
It baffles us that his guest felt that their room was only worthy of a "3". While they stayed in a "standard" guest room, they had 500-thread count sheets on their bed, locally made chocolates from a chocolate factory by their bed-side, bottled water in their room, their 5-star bath amenities includes a honey-oatmeal, exfoliating bath bar, glycerin facial soap, make up remover wipes, shampoo, conditioner, herbal bath grains, over-sized towels in the the bath, etc. The room had its own private entrance and private bath with a window that overlooked the gardens and evening campfire. Other guests that have stayed in that room have raved about how comfortable the mattress was. Most "standard" rooms don't have these kinds of amenities so we have no clue what the guests found at fault with the room????
5 on March 22, 2008
Carol & Herb made a spring turned winter get away into a relaxing event. The detailed maps & self-guided or led tours brochures, they have in the room made for some interesting days. A "must stay" if you are in Amish country of Ohio.
5 on March 19, 2008
Before we even came, Carol was very helpful in preparing us for our visit. Once we got here, we felt pampered in everyway. With Carol's help, we were able to see and do everything we wanted to do. We will be back!

Herb and Carol take the time to continually update the options available and to update the backroads tours. This was out fourth stay and we enjoyed ourselves immensely even the camp fire in the 25 degree weather.

Couldn't ask for anything more. In spite of some bad weather everything was beyond our expectations. The service and food were the greatest. Can't wait for a return visit in the fall.

MY WIFE AND I THOUGHT THAT A WEEK IN OHIO, WITH THE WEATHER OVERCAST, PERHAPS COULD BECOME BORING. BOY WERE WE WRONG! CAROL AND HERB STEFFEY MADE THE STAY A DELIGHT, WITH SCRUMPTOUS BREAKFASTS, AND ALL THE PERSONALLY SHARED INFO RE THE AMISH THAT KEPT US SPELLBOUND! THEY NEVER STOPPED PROVIDING INFO TO US RE THE LOCAL ATTRACTIONS, AND DID IT WITH SUCH OBVIOUS JOY THEMSELVES! OUR ROOMS WERE SPECTACULAR....WE HAD THEIR BEST ROOM THE FINAL NIGHT.....CAROL MOVED OUR LUGGAGE, ETC. HERSELF WHILE WE WERE GONE DURING THE DAY! WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS B+B TO ANYONE! HAVING THE NIGHTLY BONFIRES IS SO SPECIAL, AND SHE STAYED WITH US OUT THERE UNTIL WE WANTED TO GO TO OUR ROOM, EVEN THOUGH SHE OBVIOUSLY WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE COMFORTABLE IN HER LODGING AT THAT POINT, DUE TO THE INCLEMENT WEATHER! EXCITEMENT WHEN THE HORSES NEXT DOOR ON THE FARM GOT LOOSE, AND CAROL ARRANGED FOR A PERSONAL AMISH COOKED MEAL AT THE FARM ACROSS THE ROAD, AND EVEN WENT WITH US! WE CONSIDER THEM GOOD FRIENDS, AND THE ULTIMATE HOSTS OF A NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN GET-A-WAY! WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS B+B TO ANYONE! THE ELLIOTTS

Back to the Garden Gate. This time we we brought friends and filled 3 guest rooms. My husband and I always stay in the Briar Patch room(so he can get to the evening snacks quickly). The first visit was when our daughter was married at Landoll's Mohican Castle on 9/03/2005. We loved the Garden Gate so much that we went back a month later to see the fall leaves in the beautiful Amish country. The third visit, we traveled back to enjoy the gift certificate from our daughter and son-in-law. We arrived for St. Patrick's day and were treated to an evening meal and an acoustical gitaurist. This, our fourth return was also wonderful. We sat around the campfire each night and conversed with other visitors. The couple that stayed in the Garden Gate Suite became engaged, the same day that our second daughter told us she was engaged! The hospitality, the snacks and the homemade breakfasts are always superb, not to mention the sparkling clean rooms and amenities. This is the ultimate friendly and quiet getaway in the heart of Amish country.

We were the first to stay in the Garden Suite. It was the best B&B experience we have had. The room was elegant, the service was outstanding and the breakfast was a perfect way to start the day. The evening campfire was relaxing and fun and a great way to learn about the area. Kim Barnholtz and Nadine Stallbaumer, Cincinnati, Ohio and Independence, Missouri

As a frequent guest of this welcoming bed and breakfast I encourage you to spend some time "getting away" to the Garden Gate. It is lovely and quiet outdoors among the flowers and birds and horses. It is cozy and comfortable indoors where your room is made for relaxing. Evenings bring solitude or conversations around the campfire. Mornings bring time to on the swing with a cup of coffee and a delicious homemade breakfast with the innkeepers. The best home base for an Amish country visit!
5 on July 09, 2007
The maps in each room, are an excellent way to really explore the are and learn much about the Amish and their way of life. The bonfire was a great way to converse about the day, and learn more about the community. The owners know so much, that it made our stay that much more meaningful. It was very plain that they had seen all of these places, and could guide a meaningful tour.

my husband and i had never been to AMish country and spur of the moment decided we'd go...the place we intended to stay that i found online was booked, and it just so happened Garden Gate was available.....we will never stay any where else!!! The STeffey's hospitality and relaxing atmosphere made our trip the best thing we have ever done!! Their knowledge of the area made it easy for us to visit key points of interest to us and still have a wonderful relaxing weekend!! Recommended for any couple any age!!

We chose the Garden-Gate-Get-Away based on the photos from their web site. We were not disappointed! Not only is every room beautiful, the sitting areas around the house are all lovely and restful. Herb and Carol are very hospitable and knowledgeable about the local attractions and people. The bike trail is a must if you enjoy biking.

We have stayed at other bed and breakfasts and love this one above all. It is clean and wondefully decorated. Herb, Carol and her mother are wonderful hosts. They are knowledgable about the community and directed us exactly where we were interested in going. I recommend it to everyone I speak to about B & Bs all over the country.

WE WERE REALLY EXCITED WHEN OUR SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW GAVE US A GIFT CERTIFICATE TO THE GARDEN GATE GET-A-WAY B&B. THIS WAS SOMETHING WE HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO DO, BUT NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO INVESTIGATE STAYING AT A B&B. IT WAS SUCH AN EXTRORDINARY WEEKEND AND WE WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. THE STEFFEY'S WERE MARVELOUS HOSTS AND GAVE 110% TO MAKE SURE OUR STAY WAS A MEMORY THAT WOULD LAST US A LIFETIME. THEY EVEN TOOK CARE OF THE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE BACKWOODS AMISH TOUR THAT WE WENT ON. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO IN THE AREA AND ONCE YOU'VE BEEN THERE YOU WANT TO RETURN AS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE EVERYTHING IN ONE WEEKEND. SO, IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE HEAVEN HERE ON EARTH JUST TAKE THE TIME TO ENJOY THE HEAVENLY BLISS AT THE GARDEN GATE GET-A-WAY B&B. P.S. THE FOOD WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD TOO!!

We were so pleased with the attentiveness and courtesy of the Innkeepers Carol and Herb. They arranged our meal in an Amish home on Thursday, plus the BackRoads Amish Tour including a meal in another home for Friday. We enjoyed them joining us for breakfast each day and chatting about the neighborhood and our interests. The view is beautiful; the setting peaceful tucked back into Amish Country, not along the commercial highway. I recommend this B&B to our friends and family.

We celebrated out 23rd wedding anniversary in September 2006 at Garden Gate. Our room was beautiful. We enjoyed every amenity from the hot tub to the fireplace to the video rentals. Great company was shared on a beautiful night around the campfire. I believe the location is prime. You can hear the clippity-clop of Amish horses nearby and even feed one or two an apple across the front yard. The landscaping is immaculate and we felt extremely welcomed, yet our privacy was completely respected. We will visit again soon!

My husband and I, as well as my sister, have stayed at Garden Gate Get-a-Way on numerous occasions. We found the rooms to be neat, clean, and very well kept. The beds were comfortable as well. Our hosts, Carole and Herb were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The breakfasts were excellent! We have participated in many of the planned activities of the B & B, including one of the murder mysteries where we actually played some of the characters and wore period costumes. The area around Garden Gate is also rich with places to shop and things to see. I would recommend Garden Gate Get-a-Way to anyone.

Thid was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast. It was a dreary weekend in Amish Country in Oct. so we did not get to experience the outdoor nightly fires, which originally had drawn us to this particular place, but we had a wonderful time despite the weather. Our hosts were more than ready to give us tips on shopping and dining in Holmes County along with all other aspects of Amish Country. Extremely friendly and breakfasts were delicious. Our room was very clean and we really enjoyed the fireplace during this rainy weekend. I also enjoyed reading several of the entries in the journal that was left in the room for all guests to write in. We would definitely go back!
5 on April 23, 2007
The stay was absolutely wonderful. Carol is very knowledgable of the area and had tours mapped out for us to do. The hospitality made us feel right at home. The innkeepers do everything possible to make your stay memorable. On my B'day a few years ago they surprised me with a cake. I was pleased that they took time to do something special for me. In all situations I have found them to be always so very hospitable. Their tours and services apart from just the room and meal are the very unique. They truly enhance your Amish/Ohio experience whenever they can.

I LOVED my stay at the Garden Gate Get-A-Way! It is easy to find but out of the way enough to enjoy the serenity of the area. The hosts are VERY knowledgeable about the area and great places to go for food, gifts, anything! Carol is extremely hospitable and is geniunely concerned about making your stay complete. Great little homemade snacks available throughout the day and what a great breakfast! I have referred the Garden Gate Get-A-Way to friends and will definately return.

Carol Steffey goes out of her way to welcome you to a most enjoyble stay at her Bed and Breakfast. She gives you suggestions of 'off the beaten path' places to visit---a candle maker, a broom maker, potteries, quilt shops, etc. And---her breakfasts are OUTSTANDING. We have stayed at the Garden Gate Get-A-Way several times and have always come away wanting to go back.

Extremely friendly and knowledgeable couple. The B&B is in a Amish area and the couple is very involved in the community. They have programs and maps to help their customers enjoy themselves. We travel to a number of different B&B's around the state and enjoy this one the most. The extra amenities that they provide are worth the trip in itself. After a number of stays with Herb and Carol we feel like a part of the family. The rooms are extremely clean and inviting. The breakfasts are extensive. The evening campfires are enjoyable and provide another prospective of the way they treat their customers.

I found Carol and Herb very congenial. If you have any request or special wishes, they try to accomodate. They are very knowledgeable about the area and places to go. Carol is very helpful in all aspects. I find the Garden Gate Get Away B&B like my "home away from home. It is peaceful and serene and nature is all around. I always come home refreshed. I have stayed in 3 different rooms and they are all perfect.

My first stay at Garden Gate was great. My sister and I were on a quilt shop trip and really enjoyed the cozy quaintness of our room. Carol was very friendly and helpful guiding us to lesser known Amish businesses that we would never have discovered on our own. Loved the unique & informative Amish video selections, too, which we watched the first evening before heading out to shop. Loved this B and B so much that a few months later I brought my husband to it for a restful time together. We love it!
