Inn Details
From the pineapple hospitality sign above the front walk, to the warmth of the music room and parlor, The House of the Seven Goebels beckons to those that enjoy and appreciate the past. Lovingly re-created by an architect and master-craftsman, the home recalls an earlier period when life was less hurried and people took pride in what they made with their hands. Built in the late nineteen seventies, the home is an authentic reproduction of a 1780 Connecticut River Valley farmhouse. Constructed of colonial materials and with colonial methods, it mirrors the time and mood of Virginia's Williamsburg and Massachusetts' Sturbridge Village and Deerfield. On the exterior, wood rain troughs are anchored beneath hand-split shaker roofing. Square nails are visible on the face of the rough sawn cedar siding. Exterior doors are handmade, with wooden latches and Indian bars. Windows are twelve over twelve lights - double sashes with twelve panes each. Instead of curtains and drapes, the windows are fitted inside with handmade wood shutters that close on cold winter nights. The shutter hinges are wood. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and interior doors and latches are also handmade. Floors are wide pine shiplap, attached also with square cut nails.
