The Garden Manor

Never having been to Columbus, knowing no one I selected the Garden Manor and crossed my fingers. I was so lucky to find this place! The owners are old-school welcoming and new-school helpful. Their home is a comfortable and intriguing museum. They know how to provide quiet while welcoming good conversation. And, don't get me going on breakfast! Every day a tasty, unique, and beautiful gem. Their neighborhood is a bit grim - but don't be put off. Their place is an oasis of safe greenery overlooking some lovely historic homes. I would recommend their home to anyone - young and naive students, parents with young kids, and senior citizens alike. And, when Allen found out I needed to get across town to move to a work-provided hotel for the rest of my Columbus stay , he put me in his car and drove me! Talk about service above and beyond expectations!

I highly recommend this bed and breakfast who wants to have an experience to remember. A very festive breakfast served by two wonderful people. The rooms were decorated in awesome colors and very quiet to the noise outside. We had a wonderful time chatting with the owners and found out they know some people we knew. It indeed made our weekend very memorable. Plan on staying again sometime.

After traveling for 12 hours we were warmly welcomed at the Garden Manor, even after we arrived after the check-in hours. Our room was comfortable, clean and welcoming. The breakfasts were wonderful and different each morning we were there. The whole house was beautifully decorated. The location was also close to the downtown conference center. We will be back when we're in the area. Great job, guys!

Beautifully restored century home, 2 gracious hosts and a sumptuous gourmet breakfast. Only regret is that we were only there for one night.

Mike was particularly fond of the wealth of stained glass in the historic manor. He talked about it for days on end, and is now commissioning some stained glass of his own from Eur-ope. I hear that that stuff is really nice (from Mike). He also was even more fond of the guest-house, in which he was finally able to live his long-forgotten dream of being a doctor. The kitchen proved quite useful, though Mike needs to learn a thing or two about coffee makers (especially since he calls them machines)...we loved the robes and towels and the garden was immaculate. Al and Allen were freakin' great. They really, really know how to run a prestigious b+b. We're sure to come back...

My wife and I stay at a lot of bed and breakfasts and have gotten used to eccentricities at all but the best of places. However, the Garden Manor gets everything right. The house itself is stunning and impeccably decorated (one of the owners is an interior decorator and it shows) and every area was spotlessly clean and tidy. Al and Allan clearly love this house and are genuinely delighted to have guests sharing it. There is an attention to detail in everything in this B&B: there are enough hooks to hang things, enough closet space, an excellent breakfast, good resources for dining around the area. A coffee maker, washer & dryer and plenty of toiletries are at hand. All at a very reasonable price. The only thing approaching a shortcoming in this inn is that two of the rooms share a bath. This was no problem on our trip, but is always a potential for annoyance depending who you are end up sharing it with. Finally, like many historical districts, this inn is in a transitional neighborhood with some vacant properties and rough looking streets not far away. Again, this was not a problem and we’ve gotten used to finding historical districts a little rough around the edges. It sure won’t keep us from going back the next time we’re in the area.

We had a wonderful stay at The Garden Manor. The hosts were very warm and welcoming. I would definitely stay there again. I'm sure it is gorgeous at Christmas time.

We had stayed at the Garden Manor previously, so we knew that it would be a wonderful choice again. Al and Allen go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable during your stay. I especially enjoy hearing about what is going on in town and get the latest restaurant reviews....always helpful in a foreign city. Breakfast are delicious and filling....we felt spoiled. We will be back again soon!

We had stayed at the Garden Manor a couple years ago while the Guest House was still being renovated. We enjoyed our stay then and wanted to return and stay in the Guest House. The house, the garden, and the guest house are over-the-top incredible! The hosts are very welcoming. Breakfasts are delicious. We stay at a lot of B & B's and this is one of our favorites!

We enjoyed our stay. This is a beautiful home with friendly and welcoming hosts. The house is decorated to the style and period of the home but the furnishings are extremely comfortable as well as attractive.

My wife and I prefer to stay at 'Bed & Breakfast' facilities as often as possible for the personal service and the one-of a kind accommodations. Based upon our vast experience, the Garden Manor has to be by far the best establishment we have ever visited. The accommodations, decor, service and cuisine are absolutely the best! It truly is that good. Words alone could not describe the quality of this guest house, it is so beautiful, rich and elegant, beyond that projected in their website. Owners were very friendly and attentive. Gave us the name of a resturant where we had an outstanding dinner--best lamb chops I ever had!!! Their breakfast was very good and plentiful.

Beautiful home, comfortable bed. We stayed in the wedgewood blue room. The conservatory where breakfast is served looks out on the garden and is a lovely room. We'll be back if we return to Columbus.

My wife and I stayed at Garden Manor for our anniversary. The house and rooms are beautiful and the gardens are especially nice. The central location is perfect for exploring Columbus. The owners went out of their way to accommodate us. Highly recommended.

We stopped here on our way from Kansas City to Baltimore. It was a perfect mid point and a peaceful respite after our long day of traveling! The breakfast, coffee, and company were tops and my daughter and I were grateful for the pleasant bed and breakfast!

This was the perfect place to hold our intimate wedding. The garden created an idyllic setting, and the rooms and guest house accommodated our needs and the needs of our families perfectly! The food was superb and so was the value. I could not recommend The Garden Manor more highly.

Our first choice did not have the room we wanted available that night, so we went with The Garden Manor as our second choice. Wow, what a fantastic find!!! The Garden Manor is truly a hidden gem in Columbus. The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful with recommendations on dining and attractions. I grew up in Columbus, and have not been back for a vacation in about 20 years. The city has much changed (for the better), as has the section of town where the Garden Manor is located. Be forewarned - "Old Town East" (as this area just 5 minutes east of downtown Columbus is called) is still a bit "rustic", but is actually fun to see how much improvement has transpired in the area. Garden Manor is jewel right in the heart of Old Town East (you can almost call it an Oasis). The property is restored with meticulous detail by the owners, Al and Alan. They have had it for about 8 years, and know so much history about the house and its restoration. The property is obsessively well kept, and spotlessly clean. My favorite part was the Conservatory, where breakfast is served on fine china and silverware, and a view of the gorgeous English Garden. Opening the door from the conservatory into the garden, you are overwhelmed with the aromas of all the flowers, trees, and grasses. Several hidden benches around the garden allow for privacy, and a chance to appreciate each section. Our favorite part of the property was the Guest House, where we stayed. Separated from the main house at the rear of the garden, it has its own kitchen, bedroom, closets, bathroom, and even private washer/dryer. It also has its own parlor - wow. No TV, and glad to NOT have it, as in doing so would have spoiled the trip back to a time where there was none (we could still pick up the free wireless on our computer, however, if we got desperate). The best recommendation I can give is if I would plan on going back to the location again after staying. In response to that question - not only did we stay an extra day on this trip, but we already booked for Christmas later this year.

Staying at the Garden Manor can best be described as a priviledge that only the wisest and luckiest will experience. The reason I say this is that if you find this B&B on your own, consider yourself both wise and lucky. The home and all it's splendor and the gracious owners provide the optimum experience that one could ever hope for at a Bed & Breakfast.

My husband and I stayed at the Garden Manor on our wedding night. The owners were very accomadating to our schedule and even gave us an upgraded room for the special occasion. The breakfast is huge and homemade and delicious. This is a great place for relaxation and good conversation.

My husband & I spend our 34th wedding anniversary in this glorious B&B. Al accomodated our late arrival, toured his home and showed us our comfortable room. Breakfast was a 3 course gourmet "fit for a king" breakfast. I would highly recommend anyone who loves beautifully restored homes to visit this one.

As soon as I enter The Garden Manor, I step out of my business traveler persona and into a character in a Merchant Ivory film. I recently enjoyed my second stay at this oasis of gracious tranquility. Allen met me at the door with a glass of chilled Pinot Grigio and then led a tour of the home's historical treasures. I ended my stay with a sumptuous breakfast overlooking the garden filled with lilacs and roses. Al and Allen's relaxed and attentive hospitality completes the experience. Reservation made on line. Simple and easy. Welcomed at door by host who gave us a historical background overview of the property and also helped us take our luggage to second floor. Room was well cared for and clean. Found the decorations overwhelming and oppressive. Not enough lighting in the bedroom to be able to read comfortably in bed, but reading chair extremely comfortable. Hosts were very keen to give helpful suggestions of places to eat and to visit.Extremely friendly and helpful. Great breakfast carefully served and presented.Good location for the city although neighborhood is somewhat depressed.

I have never rated a B&B with all outstandings before. The price is better than staying at a nice hotel and the layout was breath taking. Every room had such beauty and charm to it. The decoration was flawless as was the breakfast served on the enclosed porch that overlooked the gardens. The neighborhood appears to be a bit scary which made the Garden Manor an oasis for us. We will stay there again.

My husband and I recently stayed at The Garden Manor, Early Room. We were greeted at the door by Al and offered a glass of wine and a tour of this beautiful home. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of this amazing home. As we toured the home, the player grand piano echoed through out the first floor. The garden was beautiful with the many Spring flowers in full bloom. Our room was spacious, very clean and and equipped with everything we could possibly need. Al and Alan are wonderful hosts. You can't beat the wine and grand piano music in the evenings. The house is truly spectacular and has an elegant feel-right out of old time movies. The Garden Manor is by far one the best Bed and Breakfast homes to stay in Columbus, Ohio. Our experience at the Garden Manor left a lasting impression on us. The Garden Manor is elegant, exquisite and rich in history. The Innkeepers Al and Allen are two amazing gentlemen. Their hospitality was outstanding and we felt highly comfortable being around other guests as well with virtually no noise at all. I highly recommend this place!!!

We spent a delightful two-night stay at the Garden Manor to attend the symphony and celebrate a special anniversary. We felt very pampered and well taken care of. The lush Victorian public rooms were a delightful place to relax with a brandy, and the suite we stayed in was extremely comfortable. We were the only occupants the first night, and it was so quiet and peaceful, despite outside traffic. The inn was fully occupied the second night but that didn't change the peace and quiet. We especially enjoyed the music wafting up the beautifully carved front stairwell. We will certainly return.

I needed a place to stay in order to catch an early flight the following morning. I have stayed in B&B’s throughout the U.S. and Canada but, I never anticipated the splendor and pampering I experienced at the Garden Manor. In essence, my vacation began one day early as I relaxed with a glass of wine in the stained glass conservatory, memorized by the melodic baby grand. The architectural detail in this home is unmatched. The hosts, Al and Allen display sincere joy in sharing their treasure with guests. I will return, with or without a morning flight, to quench my thirst for urban sophistication. SR

My husband and I were in Columbus for my work and thought we would make it an evening away so we booked a room here. The neighborhood it is in is a little run down, but please do not be put off. We had no problems. We stayed in the Tussing Room which was lovely. Al and Allen were very friendly and we were given a brief historical tour of the house, which is incredible. If you love history or dreamed of staying in an English manor, absolutely come here (so therefore not really a family friendly place, but great for singles or couples). We were offered wine in the evening (which we unfortunately could not take them up on, but it was a nice offer), free pop and water bottles and snacks were also available. A washing machine and dryer are available to use as well as a selection of toiletries (shampoo, soap, conditioner, toothpaste). Al was also very helpful to suggest places for dinner (we ended up at the original Max and Erma's a few miles away) and started the beautiful player piano as we settled in to our room. The bed was very comfy, although the room was a little cold (not overly, and once under the covers it was warm). The library is a nice place to sit and look at the selection of old books, mostly on religion, but some on cats as well (this is also where the only tv in the house is located). The bathroom for us was shared, but we barely saw the other person in the room next door so we didn't even notice. Breakfast was very nice and for us included muffins, fruit with whipped cream, egg souffle, English muffins, turkey sausage, tea, coffee and orange juice. All very nice, and I couldn't finish it all. We were very impressed with our whole stay and will most definitely be returning very soon. I would expect to pay hundreds of dollars for our stay, which only cost $107 with an AAA discount.

We recently spent 2 nites at Garden Manor, traveling with friends. AL and Allen were perfect hosts. They greeted us with wine, then gave a tour of the house, which has been magnificently restored. The breakfasts were wonderful, and both hosts took time to talk with all the guests at the table and offer suggestions on "what to do" in Columbus. Our friends stayed in the Guest House and found it to be very comfortable. It was fun to use the kitchen there for a "in house" Friday nite supper! My only suggestion would be to improve the lighting in the Early room bathroom .. We would love to return to Garden Manor, hopefully this summer, to see the beautifully landscaped grounds/flowers in their prime!

Allen and Al were very welcoming and hospitable. The beautiful location was a welcome relief from a stressful visit for a funeral.

We have returned to The Garden Manor for many reasons- beautiful home/grounds, wonderful and thoughtful hosts, delicious breakfasts and a restful place to sleep. We highly recommend this B&B and will return for sure in the near future. There are a lot of fun things to do in Columbus and a number of great restaurants to try while you are in the area. We recently stayed at the Garden Manor & were more than pleased with everything! Other than the fact that it is absolutely gorgeous, it was so clean!!! I'm very picky when it comes to cleanliness & I was very satisfied & felt very comfortable! Al & Alan are very good hosts and so very nice. Al made a breakfast that was just out of this world! The linens/comforters are great, the accommodations were perfect for us, and it was very conveniently located to downtown. We stayed in the Guest House because we brought our girls (ages 6 & 14)...they loved it too! We're trying to figure out something else to do in Columbus, so we can stay there again! The rooms were beautiful and staff very friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be that the entire place had only one television. This would not have been a problem for us as we did not intend to watch tv, it was however a problem for us because it was located in the library beside our room and every other guest in the establishment crammed themselves in the room to watch it making us very aware that we lacked any semblance of privacy. If we were to return we would make sure not to get the same room.

Our stay of two nights on December 4th & 5th at The Garden Manor was very pleasant, relaxing and informative. Innkeepers Allen Baker and Al Waddell were wonderful hosts! They were comfortable and easy to be around, giving us our privacy yet were very helpful with ideas of things to do or see in the area! Additionally they were both a delight to talk with!! The accommodations were very comfortable, the breakfasts were more than ample and delicious!!! We would definitely stay again at The Garden Manor and would definitely recommend it to others!

Absolutely a beautiful B&B. We felt actually lucky to have come accross this find! Immaculately restored and decorated. The gentlemen who run it were so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the Guest House Suite which provided great space and privacy also a little whimsy with the trip through the beautiful garden (even in December) from the house to the Guest House. We certainly recommend this B&B to others and will be making return trips ourselves.

My daughter and I came to Ohio to visit potential colleges and found an oasis from the madness and decision making. The Garden Manor. It was perfect in every way. Allen and Al are impeccable hosts who are not only extremely knowledgeable and helpful, but go out of their way to research and share information. The breakfasts are beyond delicious and presented gorgeously. We stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. From the ultra comfortable beds, cozy bathrobes and beautiful surroundings to the gardens and convenient and safe parking, Al and Allen's attention to detail is evident throughout the entire beautiful manor. If you appreciate comfort, art and beauty this is the place for you!

I highly recommend staying at this perfectly restored, immaculately clean home, Allan and Al are wonderful hosts. However, our truck was vandalized in the unsecured parking inside their property. The passenger window was smashed out and all the contents of our 3 inside compartments were stolen. What a shame, as we would have stayed longer. As soon as they can secure their parking area with the gates that are there, this will be the best B&B I can recommend.

Our stay was so pleasant: how nice to smell the wonderful breakfast and coffee upon awakening that was waiting downstairs for us! The cleanliness of the home is remarkable, the hosts - friendly and welcoming, the food-superb, the decorating-A+. Totally stress-free, enjoyable weekend!

What a treat to stay at Garden Manor! The house and garden are sights to see. We felt honored to stay there. We especially like the television library. I later purchased several of the books on Amazon, because they were so interesting to read. Don't miss this Columbus experience.

We enjoyed every aspect of our stay: the hospitality of the owners, the history of the area and the house, the friendliness of our fellow guests. We will definitely consider the Garden Manor for any future visits to the Columbus area.

This place is gorgeous and both Al and Allen are wonderful, fascinating hosts. What made my stay even more special was their sharing of the history of this magnificent home which included a short tour and a "lecture." (Ask about the ceiling on the sun porch...amazing!) From the intricate carved woodwork to Allen's sumptious decorating to unquestionably, the best breakfast I have ever eaten at a B and B, The Garden Manor will delight your senses and feed your soul (and your belly!) Heartily recommended. And do visit German Village while you're in town. Al suggested it as a must-see destination and he was spot on...take some time to meander through the narrow streets and plan to spend at least an hour at the Book Loft...a 32 room independent bookstore in the heart of the Village. All in all a perfect weekend getaway.

We simply needed a room so we could go to the OSU football game last weekend. Even though the Bucks delivered a win, I have to say the highlight of our weekend was The Garden Manor. Sheer elegance... We have stayed at B&B's around the country - this tops all. Innkeeper's go out of their way to accommodate every request..Breakfast on china and crystal - egg soufflé, fruit with whipped cream, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit butters on freshly baked cinnamon rolls...on & on. Can't wait to go back. Not only the food - accommodations are 1st rate - These guys have not misses a detail in the restoration of this historic home. Highly Recommended!!!

If you want a five-star experience at a B&B, this is your place! This was by far the best bed and breakfast stay that I have ever enjoyed. Outstanding. The home is so beautiful it takes your breath away. The hosts are very cordial and you will not leave hungry! I will be returning as soon as possible. Our last minute reservation at the Garden Manor turned out to be the best weekend getaway. The wonderful Manor has exquisite interior design and furnishings that stay true to the turn of the century architecture. All the rooms were very clean. We stayed in the Early Room which was spacious and offers a private bath. The wonderful innkeepers, Al and Allen, were prompt to meet our every need, provided engaging conversation and of course served delicious food and drink. The outdoor gardens are more of a secluded sanctuary. Parking is ample. The central location of the Manor is ideal and makes it quick to get anywhere. As long as there a vacancy at the Manor, I know we will never have to look for another place to stay when visiting in Columbus.

We had a lovely stay at the Garden Manor. The hosts were very attentive, kind and informative of the area and it's history. The house itself is stunning and is one of the historical houses in Columbus. Highly recommended.

We were so impressed and surprised that such a treasure exsisted in Columbus Ohio and we didn't know til now! We had such a wonderful relaxing time. We had reserved the "cariage house"...(We'd love to have it for a month as a "summer home".) The breakfasts were the best, tasted great just enough and presentation was grand. Al & Allen are exceptional hosts. We would recommend and for sure return. I can't say enough about this wonderful secret.

We really enjoyed relaxing in this B&B. We have five kids ages 11 years to 7 months and this was a great place to take a break.

We booked at short notice, and Allen and Al made it a relaxing experience. We definitely tell everyone we know about their incredible home and how enjoyable our experience was. We will be staying again in the future.

The Garden Inn is worth a trip to Columbus for no other reason than to stay there, relax with the view of the fabulous garden, eat the amazing food and chat with the entertaining and gracious hosts.

My wife and I have been staying in B&B's across the country for the last 10 years and we both agreed that the hospitatiltiy, knowledge, and overall charm of this B&B far exceeded our expectations! As we told Al, we will be making plans to come back on a yearly basis.

Recently my husband and I stayed at The Garden Manor. I highly recommend staying here if your in the Columbus area. The Manor is beautiful. If you have a chance stay there while you can enjoy the garden! The hosts were so friendly and informative. I look forward to going back!

Enjoyed coming back to The Garden Manor for another stay during a business trip to Columbus. The impeccably clean, incredibly beautiful home was just as magical as I remembered. I felt like I was royalty for a couple of nights. It was nice to visit during the late spring with the formal garden in bloom. Al and Allen were perfect hosts, never intrusive, always very informative and helpful. Breakfast was such a treat both mornings, with delicious food being perfectly presented. I would never stay anywhere else if coming to Columbus for business or pleasure.

Beautiful facility, impeccably maintained and decorated, but of course I would expect no less from a professional interior decorator. Breakfast service was prompt, cheerful and unobtrusive and the food was wonderful. I especially appreciated the swiss chocolates and cognac which was available each evening.

Two friends and I stayed in the guest house at the Garden Manor for one night while touring the Columbus area. When we knocked on the door and Al came to open it, you could distinctly hear all three of our jaws thud to the floor as we got our first glimpse of the interior. Al gave us a gracious welcome, taking us through the main house and then over to the guest house. He invited us to come back to the main house for a glass of wine before we started our evening on the town. We accepted the offer and enjoyed ourselves immensely - to the point that we pushed off our trip to The Book Loft, which says a lot for three bibliophiles! The guest house is a spectacularly cozy getaway spot. My two friends stayed in the bedroom and I camped out in the living room on a more-comfortable-than-expected air mattress. In the morning, we were fed a gourmet breakfast that left us groaning with too-full-but-very-happy stomachs. The only negative about this place is the surrounding neighborhood but honestly, once you walk through the front door, you're transported to another world. Al and Allan have done an incredible job and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing place to stay in Columbus. As a side note, the garden between the main and guest houses would be stunning for a cozy wedding or special event.

Picked the spot because it was a convenient location. Luckily we had stumbled on a visit through a century of vibrant Columbus history. Welcoming, hospitable innkeepers shared freely. I even learned more about my own grandfather's role in the midwest jazz scene. Very comfortable, clean, and ...well...luxurious: the woodwork, the stained glass, the furnishings, the bedding, the formal gardens. Graciously served us just what we wanted to eat. The garden was fragrant with lilacs. Spectacular.

My husband and I just spent a night at the Garden Manor and can not say enough about the experience. The home is absolutely beautiful, the service and detail could not be beat, right down to the guality of the sheets and the breakfast that you would think had been prepared by a chief. I was able to take my european walking lifestyle, and easily apply it to Columbus. I know it's hard to convince people to walk in North America, and while one may not want to or be able to walk everywhere, one can still have a mix of exploring Columbus on foot and motor transport. If you are a good guest and eat all your breakfast, you can have the energy to go until dinner!! In the evening, I felt a happy sort of tired, enjoyed a long bath, then off to my bedroom where the decore invited me to a warm dreamy time of days gone by. I'd think about who had lived in the house, and how incredible it is to have the opportunity to be a guest in this living history. My favorite painting is at the bottom of the main stairs. We have traveled in several countries and always count on great B&Bs. Recently we discovered that sometimes the best treasures are in your own back yard. Only a couple of hours from our home, the Garden Manor was perfect for a weekend getaway. Having lived in an historic district we know the ups and downs of rejuvenating an older neighborhood and were very pleased with the results of the owners of the Garden Manor. A close proximity to downtown Columbus is only one of its attributes. The friendly hosts, Allen and Al, greeted us with a glass of wine and treated us to a tour of the lovely mansion with its interesting history. The beauty of the home will put you in a new dimension of time combining beautiful woodwork, furnishings and the conveniences of any traveler’s needs. The rooms, the kitchen, the baths, virtually everything is impeccably clean and accommodating. The breakfast in the conservatory was elegant and delicious. The owners know what people like and are experts at making you feel welcome. They’ll tell of the fascinating history within the walls of this mansion and the invention from the original owner that has affected all our lives. This one carries with it a new higher standard for B&Bs, so beware! A very tough act to follow. Thank you Allen and Al, we will be back, for sure!

We had a great weekend in Columbus. The highlight was definitely the Garden Manor. The house was beautiful and the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. The B & B is ever so much more beautiful then the pictures posted, it is large and well appointed. Al the Inn Keeper could not have been more friendly and helpful. We enjoyed spending time chatting with him, he had so many interesting stories about the house and the area. We we really enjoyed our stay at the Garden Manor and can't wait to stay there again.

Al and Allen were excellent hosts who went above and beyond to accommodate their guests. My girlfriend and I didn't have a car and Allen volunteered to drive us to dinner so we wouldn't have to walk in the snow! The manor is beautiful and we felt welcomed, relaxed, and at home. Had a wonderful girlfriend's overnight at The Garden Manor. Our hosts were perfect! Full of information regarding history of the manor, places for dinner and directions! The decor and appointments are stunning in this turn-of-the 20th Century home. It was shocking to see the creativity and care of the renovations. And it also provided wonderful private spaces to rest and unwind. The innkeepers' knowledge of its history and place in (past and present) Columbus' culture was also fun. The rooms were well kept and comfortable. Breakfast was delightful and the Innkeepers were extremely helpful. And it is within walking distance to several of Columbus' most well known attractions. I can't wait to go back...

We had a magnificant time at the Garden Manor! There was relaxing music playing in the background in the common areas. Tasteful period decorating caused us to feel a part of history and royalty at the same time! Breakfast was wonderful! It was hard to leave!

The Garden Manor far exceeded any expectation we had of a bed and breakfast. We checked in on our wedding night in order to spend a couple of days before leaving for our honeymoon. Our second annual Cousins Weekend took place in mid-November. Five cousins met in Columbus, Ohio for a getaway weekend and the Garden Manor was the perfect location! We were treated royally from the start by our hosts - from the tour of the Manor to the scrumptious breakfasts to the delicious chocolate chip cookies made for us as we stayed up late reminiscing and solving the world's problems. Al and Allen were very helpful when we asked for suggestions for places to visit that are must sees from a Columbus resident's point of view. The Garden Manor is definitely a wonderful place to stay.

This was the most elegant B&B we have ever stayed in. The price was unbelievable, we have stayed in nice hotels costing much more and they were no comparison to the beauty of the home, friendship and helpfulness of the owners, and delicious food that was served. We would highly recommend and we have told many many friends of this beautiful place. Of course, being Christmas season, the decorations were breathtaking. We would seriously consider staying there again. It was wonderful.

Al & Allen are absolutely fantastic. This is our second stay at the Garden Manor and our expectations continue to be blown away. The house is absolutely gorgeous and immaculate. If you have the means, it will be hard not to hand them a blank check to purchase the house "as is". Al & Allen are exceptionally friendly and hospitable. We had a great time chatting with them prior to our dinner plans (a restaurant they recommend and we loved it) and had a lovely time catching up. Breakfast was absolutely amazing. It was something different from last time we stayed and we enjoyed the variety. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. This is an absolute "must stay" and you won't regret it!!

I spent the evening at The Garden Manor in early December. The home was stunning. Every detail & need was anticipated. The hosts were delightful. Breakfast was top notch. In all ways, this is the best B&B I have stayed in yet. I will be back the next time I need to stay over in Columbus, Ohio.

I surprise my wife with a Bed&Breakfast on her birthday. I try to select Victorian homes. I must tell you that The Garden Manor in Columbus, Ohio, is a Pristine beautiful, and comfortable stay. Your host's will treat you like Royalty. The stain glass windows, leaded glass ceiling, cheery woodwork with many carvings, and period decorating make this a "must Visit"! Allen Baker & Al Waddell open their "Garden Manor", Columbus home, to the public to share it's beauty and history w outstanding hospitality!! There is nothing left out by the planning of these two innkeepers!! Allen has missed no detail in decorating and designing each and every finely appointed room of their historic home! Al does an amazing job w the best breakfast ever served at an inn/bed and breakfast. Al may also be the best asset Columbus has when it comes to what to see and do in the area!! Any detail needed to make our stay perfect was done. Thank you Allen and Al, you indeed have the Best Urban B and B hands down and possibly the best anywhere!!!

This place is absolutely fabulous! We came to see the Chihuly exhibition at the Franklin conservatory, but we will definately try to revisit Columbus just to stay at the Manor.

First and foremost, the Garden Manor is easily the most beautful home I've ever been in. From the detail of the woodwork to the tasteful orientation of the impressive artwork, every inch of the property is something to be admired. To supplement the the outstanding views the house has to offer, the owners are exceptionally knowledgable on the history of this historic home and all of the pieces within. If there is a negative to be found here it is that the Garden Manor is located in an unfavorable part of Columbus. It's not the worst area but it's bad enough that security is a concern, and one that Al and Allen take very seriously. While you're not required to be inside by a certain time, it did seem like they prefer their guests to be back from the evening's activities by midnight so that the security system can be set. The Garden Manor is not your average bed and breakfast. The Garden Manor stays true to the idea of the bed and breakfast. Be there when breakfast starts, and be ready to check out by a certain time because the experience is treated like it is. You are a guest in somebody's home and they are unlikely to leave you alone there. The rooms themselves are as gorgeous as the rest of the house and each has a unique history. I spent my visit in the Early Room, the only one with its own bathroom aside from the guest house. I was warned beforehand that the Early room is cooler than the rest of the house and that turned out to be true, which was less than pleasant when showering in the morning. Other than that the experience was expceptional. The Garden Manor seems to come from a different era, not just on account of the home's age but because of the level of effort the owners are willing to put forth to ensure that their guests recieve a truly memorable experience. The value is unquestionable and I would highly suggest it to anyone staying in the Columbus area.

By far the best B&B of the country! I stayed with my mom in the guest house (separate from the main building). The place has been exquisitely redesigned maintaining key elements of original architecture. The hosts were amazing! Took care of all our needs with painstaking detail. Anyone who loves historic homes will love staying at this most gracious B & B. I have paid money to see restored homes like this, but this time there were no ropes to keep me from entering the rooms. The decorating is perfection, with quality furnishings and materials throughout. The hosts are generous with their time, and will give interested guests a tour. Our innkeepers, Allen and Al, provide the warmest and most comfortable environment, with places to relax and beautiful music in the background. Breakfast was delicious, and served elegantly. Needless to say, our next visit to Columbus will include a stay at the Garden Manor.

The house is spectacular and Allen and Al are very nice gentlemen. As we had a very busy schedule we only ate once and it was wonderful. The home is located in an area that appears to be under redevelopment and I was worried that it might not be safe. This turned out to be an unfounded concern. If we return to Columbus I would be very happy to stay again.

The Garden Manor is a beautifully restored mansion in a historic residential area of Columbus close to downtown. We only stayed one night (The Early Room) while driving through Ohio on I-70 to Maryland, but we definitely plan to return sometime in the future. The house is within a convenient drive of restaurants and the Franklin Park Conservatory. Al and Allen were extremely gracious hosts. Al offered an informative tour of the historic house and its restoration and was a great source for information on Columbus area sightseeing.

The Garden Manor is a beautiful home, rich in history. Al & Allen have shown great care and respect to ensure their home lives up to its original glory. We stayed in the Guest House, which was the perfect combination of B&B luxury and privacy. Breakfast was always wonderful and the hosts were absolutely delightful. My husband and I did not expect this gem of a retreat in Columbus. The house is exquisite with multifaceted (cultural, musical, medical and architectural) and intriguing histories. The 2 Als love this grand lady and her role in this grand little city (and know it well). We could not ask for more hospitable hosts. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was pleasant, even driving us to an OSU football game (well, as near as humanly possible). Their recommendations for local dining were spot on (including mapquested directions to get us there). And breakfast was always a delicious treat (including waking up to the inviting aroma.) There's no way any Sheraton on Hyatt could compare. Thanks, gentleman.

Historic home is beautifully restored. No country kitsch here, just sophisticated, rich design. Great hosts. The location is urban, but the property is very secure. There's no "Not applicable" option on the survey, but since I didn't have a meal at the B&B during my stay I can't comment on that. All else superb.

Since I visit my daughter and 2 grandkids in Columbus at least once a year I now have a fourth reason to visit...to stay at the Garden Manor, the most beautiful B&B I have ever experienced! Some real pluses...Al and Allen, the superlative hosts; a stocked refrigerator and fresh coffee in the upstairs lounge; everything spectacularly clean; off-street parking; huge (overwhelming!) selections of bath products; a beautiful "player" grand piano; and would you believe, crystal and porcelain wastebaskets! The only thing I found missing was a set of coasters in my room so as to protect the extremely nice furniture from wet drinking glasses. In all, the house was an architectural gem which was furnished to museum standards! Thanks, Al and Allen, and the next time I promise not to set off your burglar alarm!!! The Garden Manor inn is a beautifully restored home that is located close to major highways yet you would never know when you are relaxing on the veranda overlooking the gorgeous garden. The rooms are wonderful as is the breakfast in the morning. We had a great time and would stay here again.

Our hosts were so welcoming and friendly - they took great care of us and seem to really enjoy hosting their guests. We stayed in the guest house which worked quite well for our family of 4 - we have two small children. Our baby stayed in a pack-n-play and our 3 year old on an air mattress - we easily fit into the spacious bedroom with plenty of room for our luggage in the large walk-in closet. The sitting room is beautiful and the kitchen with eat-in dining was also clean and well-equipped. There were drinks in the fridge and snacks waiting for us when we arrived. The garden is very pretty as well - nicely maintained and a joy to stroll through to get to the guest house. Our 3 year old thought it was his own personal wonderland! The energy and effort that Al and Allen have put into this historic property and the Olde Towne neighborhood is commendable. I am an architect who has a special appreciation for historic architecture and I was very impressed with how nicely the property had been renovated as well as the tasteful modern touches that have been added. We had a wonderful experience here!! Beautiful rooms, GREAT hosts, a gorgeous setting/gardens and a wonderful breakfast to boot. Lovely all around; highly recommended.

This amazing B&B has been lovingly and meticulously restored to period perfection. The house and grounds are breath-taking. The owners are very knowledgeable about period restoration, the history of their home in particular, real estate, and everything that is going on locally. They gave us a great tour of the manor, its accompanying rear cottage, and the garden. The gorgeous marble conservatory (which had tons of windows, a stained glass ceiling, and a view of the pretty and immaculately kept back garden) was the setting for breakfast- which was delicious but not tailored to our diet restrictions (so meat was needlessly wasted). A gorgeous player piano filled the house with music in the early evening as wine and cheese were served in the large, beautiful, modern, marble kitchen in the back. Snacks, a refrigerator, a washer, dryer, and ironing board/iron were available in a utility room. And you can take advantage of several common-area rooms. The location was great for accessing anything downtown. Caveats: While our room had a private bath, not all rooms do; no one made our bed or emptied trash while we were away from our room; rooms (or at least ours) did not include a TV (we didn't care, but others may, so I mention it); and the neighborhood was sketchy (but we felt safe because the manor had a separate walled-off parking lot in back and the house itself had a security alarm).

Al and Allen were wonderful hosts. The Graden Manor is historical and both owners were very knowledgeable about architecture and the history of the estate. Breakfast was wonderful and I would recommend this place as one of the best B&B's I have ever stayed in. It is clean and beautiful and the history is very interesting.

The Garden Manor could be set up as a house museum that people would pay to tour, but instead guests can sleep there! Very welcoming and comfortable.

We just spent one night as we were passing through, so didn't have much spare time to relax and enjoy it. But the house and garden were fabulous. Al and Allen are enjoyable and attentive hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.
