1861 Inn

This was my husband and I's first trip to the Cincinnati area and our first stay in a Bed & Breakfast! We were worried about having privacy and feeling comfortable, but Tom and Carole are such excellent hosts that we felt right at home! The property and house is beautiful and I wish we could have stayed more than one night. We stayed in Jenny's Retreat. We really enjoyed our own private balcony overlooking the pool and the bed was SO comfortable! Their two spaniels are absolutely adorable and we enjoyed playing with them. Breakfast was amazing! Way better than you will get at a hotel. We hope to go back some time in the future!

Tom and Carole have a beautiful house and are extremely welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic and the goodies at check-in were great too! I would definitely recommend the 1861 Inn and will absolutely be back next time I'm in Cincinnati.

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and it was perfect. The room was great and the bed extremely comfortable. The service excellent and we totally enjoyed our time and visiting with Tom and Carole. Highly recommend to all travelers.

I wanted to surprise my wife with a night out for our 25th anniversary.After doing some research I picked the 1861 Inn.What a super choice! From the time we arrived(an hour early)we were made to feel at home.It was all the pictures and reviews said it was,and so much more!We sat on the front porch swing and my wife and Carole chatted like old friends.I had reserved the "Cottage" for us...another good choice.It was perfect .We sat in the hot tub enjoying an adult beverage while their two dogs kept us company.Then we had a great dinner prepared by Carole.Breakfast was even better! My wife hasn't stopped telling everyone about our experience.Thank you Tom and Carole for making this a wonderful anniversary

This was our third stay at the 1861 Inn. I wanted someplace to celebrate my sweetheart's birthday, and Tom and Carole did not disappoint! We had a fantastic weekend, met a lot of great folks staying there also, and were pretty much spoiled 24/7 by our awesome hosts. We will return again and again, whether to celebrate or just to recharge our batteries.

My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting is peaceful and serene, and Tom and Carole were such welcoming hosts. The history of the Inn is interesting. The front porch swing was my favorite spot in the common areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The Riverview room was beautiful and breakfast was amazing. I highly recommend this B&B if staying in the Cincinnati area over a hotel chain. Easy to get to and a convenient location to downtown/area attractions.

I have stayed at several B & B's over the years. This one was over and above amazing. From the moment we got there Carol made us feel comfortable and welcome. Telling us about the house and the family and she showed us around was a treat. The Riverview room was beautiful with a king sized bed and two armchairs in front of the fireplace. My husband especially enjoying the steam shower. We appreciated cookbooklet they had on local restaurants and their recommendations The claw footed slippere tub was a treat with scented soaps, salts, and lotions. Coffee and tea service to our room in the morning-decadent! And I can't find words to describe breakfast. Yogurt with fresh fruit, current scones with an amazing apricot jelly, and stuffed French toast. From the lemon bars the night before to breakfast Carol and Tom remembered and made note of my husbands allergies to chocolate, mushrooms, and sausage. Our breakfast companions were delightful and we enjoyed talking to them and Carol and Tom. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. As it was, I was not feeling well and Carol and Tom graciously agreed to a later check out. We will definitely be back to this lovely Inn. Stay here and you will be amazed at the outstanding service and genuine warmth you will experience.

My stereotype of a B&B is that they are for couples. I happened to be traveling solo the evening I stayed at the 1861 Inn. My stereotype was shattered with the welcome I received. Guess what? B&Bs are also for solo travelers! I was totally re-energized in just a few short hours.

We recently visited the Cincinnati area and happened upon The 1861 Inn on the internet. We stayed one evening in the Smoke House. It was somewhat small,but was masterfully decorated to give you a feeling of home comfort. The breakfast and welcoming conversation with the owners and a brief history of the home was quite nice. Even staying during the bleak months between winter and spring, the property was attractive and inviting. I can only imagine that the spring and summer will bring out even more beauty of the home and grounds. Only negative thing, I can mention is that even though, my husband and I have been married for many, many years, we were uncomfortable with the lack of privacy in the bathroom. Otherwise, great home, great service and entertaining hosts.

We had a wonderful time at the 1861 Inn! The room was lovely and very comfortable! The breakfasts were just fabulous and Tom and Carole (and the doggies) are wonderful hosts!! Plus it's closeness to downtown Cincinnati makes it a great get away location. We had a great time and plan to return at a later date and bring our bikes as the bike path is very near by.

We stayed at the 1861 Inn on our wedding night and came back for our 1 year anniversary! We were so impressed with their continued hospitality and kindness. There were added touches to the room welcoming us back and wishing us a happy anniversary, which was such a charming touch. Thus, the breakfast it always amazing and delicious!! We chose the 1861 Inn from the website while looking for accommodations near the New England Club, where my aunt resides. It was the perfect choice! My mom and I shared one beautiful room with a steam shower, fireplace, and claw foot tub. My daughter and her friend shared the other lovely room across the landing with a door to the screened back porch. The house is beautiful, warm and inviting. Carole and Tom made us feel right at home. It was cold outside so we enjoyed time by the fireplace, loved the bedtime treat of delicious homemade brownies, and appreciated the snacks left out for us. We stayed two nights and wish we could have stayed more. The breakfasts were outstanding - my mom is still raving about the bread pudding/egg custard. There's a lot to see and do near the inn. Bike paths, old town Milford for unique shopping, Newport on the Levee for dining, shopping and an amazing view of the Cincinnati skyline. But if you didn't want to do a thing but enjoy the inn, this is the place to relax! Even the inn's 2 dogs were perfect angels and added joy to our visit. If you live miles from here or even close by, this is a great place to come and let yourself be pampered. We hope to be back and we live 520 miles away!

Coming all the way from Las Vegas, we needed a break from the speed of life and Tom and Carol provided the best getaway we have ever had. They were so delightful, loving and very accommodating. When we arrived, we knew right away that we were in for a treat. We stayed in the cottage the first night. It had a fireplace, was clean, cute, soaps and lotions everywhere, snacks and cookies in various places, and a bottle of wine was waiting for us with a very lovely note. The second night we stayed in the room with the attached porch, in the main house. The bed was so comfortable and the room was so spacious. My only regret is I forgot to fill out the guest book in the room with a thank you note. Homemade brownies were waiting for us when we returned at night and coffee for two was brought to our room 30 minutes before breakfast on a tray. Breakfast was the BEST....both days! Warmed fruit with cream, Italian Carrot Cake, poached pear with berries and yogurt, some sort of cake (a mix between a pecan roll and bread pudding)...so yummy!, sausage/potato/egg pie, beautifully set table with Easter decorations, juices.....so wonderful! They were both sweet and made us feel like we were at home. Such wonderful cooking and special...not the ordinary eggs and bacon. The two spaniels were cute and the tour + history was inspiring. I have traveled to many places for business and dragged my husband to many cities. This time we threw out the regular hotel room for the B & B experience. I have to say, thanks to Carol and Tom....there is no going back! No more regular hotels for us! Thanks for a fantastic stay and the shortest stay that was more relaxing than our week long vacations! I look forward to possibly returning when there are leaves. :) With love.....

Had another amazing weekend at the 1861 Inn. Tom and Carol are the best. We were greeted at the door with hand shakes and a smile along with a glass of wine. Tom and Carol are the best Innkeepers we have experienced. The food was excellent and the personal touch that you put on the visit sets you above the rest. Casey was the sweetest dog coming up every morning to wake us up for coffee and breakfast. The riverview room is in a class by itself. Looking forward to our next visit. Possibly in the summer and spring season to enjoy the pool and hottub. We both got the rest and relaxation we were looking for as a getaway. Tom and Carol, you are the best! D & T from Indy

What we like about B&B's are the stories that go with the homes, the inn keepers we get to meet, and of course the food. Tom and Carole and The 1861 Inn met all those expectations with room to spare. The room had some nice touches (e.g. a steam shower) and lots of "period" furniture. My only regret is that I couldn't stop eating the wonderful breakfast so I have to hit the gym at least one more time than usual. A wonderful, relaxing, enjoyable stay.

We went there for the fireplaces on each room, and we will be returning for the wonderful service, the fantastic food, and the beautiful location. We felt pampered, relaxed and completely happy. We would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone.

My husband and I wanted a quick getaway for our first anniversary. The 1861 Inn was a charming place with lots of character and history. We loved having the fireplace and tub in the room and the glass of wine with Tom was nice addition. The dogs were adorable and breakfast was amazing! Tom and Carole are wonderful hosts! We will definitely be back!

We stayed in the pool house room...very nice, but it got very cold at night and we didn't know how to turn up the heat. The shower was a single person stand up and fine but small. The food was awesome and the owners were very kind and accommodating to let us have our children stay with us there. They do have a cat and dogs in case of allergies, you should note this. I'd definitely stay there again and maybe try a room in the main house next time.

This place is wnderful. We stayed during the winter and loved the fireplace in the room. The bathroom tub was big and very comfortable. The scenery was soothing and the air outside was crisp and clean. Breakfast was delicious and we had a wonderful conversation with the owner. She is very gratuitous and hospitable towards her guests.

Of the many bed & breakfast inns we’ve stayed in throughout the country, our recent stay at the ‘1861 Inn’ in Ohio was no doubt, one of our most memorable and definitely worth returning to. Using the criteria of Place, Food and People, we found all 3 to be exceptional. The owners/inn keepers, Carole and Tom, have turned this beautiful historic home into a B&B with 3 of the most lovely, spacious guest rooms with a blend of cozy period and updated pieces to relax and enjoy throughout the house. Breakfast was superb—we stayed the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving and enjoyed a new and delicious breakfast each morning from baked treats and fruit to waffles, eggs, and local ham. Most special here, was spending time in fun, relaxing conversation with the owners and another guest sharing a bottle of wine and sipping tea in front of the warm fire in their comfy library. Wish we had added another day to simply enjoy reading and relaxing in each room of the house. Brilliant hosts and great guests too! The Stornos

I stayed in Jenny's Retreat for four nights while I visited Cincinnati. The hospitality showed by Tom and Carole helped me feel like a human being to be valued instead of a pocketbook to be opened. Coming "home" to a fire in the fireplace and conversation with intelligent people enriched the time I spent away from home. The memory of those days is a priceless addition to my life's story.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our first visit to the 1861 Inn so much, that we recently returned for a longer stay in November. The Inn was everything we remembered it to be and more. The cottage provided the perfect amount of privacy while still allowing us the comforts of the main house ammenities. Carole outdoes herself every morning with a gourmet breakfast, and Tom is always there to assist you in any way. In no time, you feel less like a guest and more like family. The Inn is the perfect escape from the fast pace of life. We will certainly be returning to the Inn often.

My husband and I enjoyed our first visit to the 1861 Inn for a long weekend in October. We stayed in the beautiful Riverview suite. The accomodations, the grounds, the sumptous breakfasts, the hospitality were all top notch... to make for a memorable stay.

My husband and I came to the Inn for our 1 year wedding anniversary because we wanted a quaint, quiet, relaxing getaway and that's exactly what we got! The Inn was so lovely! We stayed in the room with the wood burning fireplace, claw bathtub, and stem shower. We didn't want to leave! Tom and Carole were such gracious hosts and made us feel right at home. There were even brownies left on our nightstand when we got back from dinner :) The breakfast in the morning was to die for! We can't wait to come back for pur next anniversary!

My husband and I stayed at the 1861 Inn in late October for four nights and enjoyed every moment of our stay! The Inn is beautiful, well appointed, comfortable and the hosts are warm and charming people. We stayed in the cottage, it had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The breakfast was better than at the Ritz Carlton! We highly recommend it and hope to make our way back!

Our first stay was great in the smoke house room. We really enjoyed Carole and Tom's hospitality. A very intimate experience in a neat setting. We will be back again.

Tom and Carole were wonderful hosts, and the Inn and surrounding property were beautiful! We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Tom and Carole are excellent hosts and made us feel so welcomed and at home. My husband and I spent the night in the cottage out back which was perfect for us. It was private and cozy, and Tom and Carole added a few nice touches (like candles) to make it feel even more welcoming. The breakfast was home-made and fit for a king and was served to us by Tom himself (who waited on us hand and foot!), and then we enjoyed a lovely tour of the house (which included a lot of history!) and great conversation with Carole. Some places leave visitors feeling like a bit of a burden, but here we felt cared for and wanted. We hope to come back again sometime. Thanks, Tom and Carole!

You will want to stay longer than one night in the Riverview Room! The inn keepers are a joy with excellent taste in decor and food. I would highly recommend anyone interested in history and antiques to stay at this rural retreat that you will not likely forget. I am motivated to be as generous a hostess as they.

My mom gave us an Anniversary present staying at the 1861 Inn. We had never stayed in a bed & breakfast before so this was a real nice experience ! The room was called Jenny's Retreat and it was lovely with a screened in porch attached to it. We sat and enjoyed just being alone. The food was absolutely delicious and our hostesses Carole & Tom was wonderful (they always had goodies for us). Absolutely our best stay. We will try more Bed & Breakfast and would love to go back to the 1861 Inn!!!

Gourmet describes not only the breakfasts but also the detail of the historic preservation and the hospitality of the innkeepers. Top shelf ~ very best. We both grew up in Southwest Ohio and were delighted to find that such a wonderful inn exists right in our hometown. This is now our home-away-from-home. We so much enjoyed the beauty of the grounds, the shade trees on the lawn, the inground swimming pool, the relaxing warmth of the adjacent hot tub, and the delightful gourmet goodies awaiting us in our luxurious, comfy bedroom upon our return each evening. Carol & Tom went beyond our expectations to provide outstanding accommodations and extraordinary customer service. All 3 available rooms provide their own special ambience. The "pool house" is a cute cottage right next to the pool/hot tub. It has a summer cottage feel, complete with its own reading/sitting room. The upstairs bedroom we stayed in comes complete with sleigh bed, fireplace, and a bear claw white ceramic old fashioned soaking tub. The other upstairs bedroom has a comfy queen bed, a nostalgic bathroom with a ceiling style tank and European chain flush. It has a screened balcony porch that overlooks the pool area. Any room will provide its residents with a unique experience. Make your reservation today!

Our hosts were just fabulous in making our stay a most enjoyable one. Begining with a lovely glass of wine by the pool followed by a very nice rest in our comfy bed in our private cottage. We have never been served finer breakfasts in our many many years of extensive travel both in Canada, USA and Europe. Well Done.

For 3 women on a weekend out, we stayed in Jenny's Retreat !! Word can't say enough about ths Fantastic Bed & Breakfast ! We were treated like queens,Hospitality of Tom & Carol, Cassie & Toga were unblieveable !! Food was Absolutely Delicious !! Our stay was so relaxing, with the screened in porch off our room we thought we were in heaven !!! Hot tub & pool was also Fantastic !!!!! Than you Carol & Tom for welcoming us to your home, it was wonderful !!!! I'm sending my Son & daughter in law there for their anniversary !!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Labor Day stay at the 1861 Inn, from Carole and Tom's warm and sincere hospitality, to the beautiful setting, the gorgeous pool, the delicious breakfasts and the sumptious smokehouse cottage. Hope we can visit again.

I am writing this from the Riverview Room at the 1861 Inn, reluctant to give up this spot even though it's time to go. Just one day was not enough to enjoy all that Tom and Carole have to offer. The Inn is immaculate, the food is delicious and the hospitality beyond compare. My wife and I were in the area solely for business but now we have a reason to come back and fully explore.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. It was the first time we've stayed at a B&B and it was very quiet and relaxing. I chose the smokehouse room for a little extra privacy and there were 2 things about it that I wish I'd known beforehand. First the shower is small. My husband commented "when it's hard for a skinny dude to turn around, you know it's small." Second the air conditioner is near the head of the bed, and while I'm a heavy sleeper and it didn't bother me, it kept my husband up. It was on his side and he's a lighter sleeper. I probably would have chosen a different room (esp in the summer when it's humid and you want the air conditioning) if I'd known that. With the exception of those two things, our stay was great overall. Tom and Carole were excellent hosts, setting up the hot tub for us in the evening and even making fabulous brownies for a late night snack. The house had a lot of charm, the area was quiet, private and peaceful, and the breakfast was delicious. The food was something I'd never be able to make (homemade scones, peaches and cream, and a delicious potato and sausage hash with eggs) so it was great to try something different for breakfast.

My husband, 1 year old son and I went for a weekend trip to the Cincinnati area. I always prefer to stay in bed and breakfasts, but this is the first time I have tried to manage with my son along for the ride! Tom and Carole were quite welcoming and loved our son. We felt so at home and rested! With the atmosphere and the rich history- the place was as close to perfect as possible! I would go back again and again! I will definitely be recommending the 1861 Inn to friends and family!

My husband and I spent our wedding night at the 1861 Inn and loved it so much that we decided to go back to celebrate our 1st anniversary. My husband will tell you I am PICKY when it comes to accommodations as I spent so much time in hotels traveling for my job... I prefer to only stay in bed and breakfasts when we travel. Like everyone else has mentioned, this place is the perfect mix of charm, hominess, and modern beauty...and so much character and attention to detail. The rooms are very tasteful and eclectic - no lace extravagance. It's the perfect b & b. We spent a day floating in the pool...went to dinner at a great restaurant in Old Loveland - Tano Bistro (20 Brix in Milford is also wonderful)... spent the night in a beautiful room... and had a truly gourmet breakfast - straight out of Bon Appetit! A very romantic setting - the house is set back in the woods with a long driveway... a big, beautiful front porch with a swing, a sparkling pool and jacuzzi, trees and lovely plants all around...italian party lights hanging on back patio... it's such a romantic setting - it's hard to believe we were only 30 minutes from our house! Carole and Tom are excellent hosts with so much to share. They generously welcome their guests, open their home, and take time to show them around and offer as much about the history of the house as people would like to hear. Another lovely touch - when we returned from dinner at 10:30pm - there was a small bottle of wine, two wine classes, and gourmet chocolate zucchini bread on our dresser! The 1861 Inn is right out of a storybook. Tom and Carole also let us choose when we wanted to have breakfast and gave us plenty of space and privacy.

For my wife's 30th birthday I wanted to surprise her with a nice night away. She has always wanted to visit a bed and breakfast. Our stay at the 1861 Inn far exceeded our expectations for a relaxing time away from home. Our room was prepared just for us, with a birthday sign next to the bed and the most delicious homemade chocolate covered strawberries we've ever had. The pools were delightful and having a private screened in porch with a staircase right to the pool was fantastic. I can go on and on about our stay. The highlight was the breakfast in the morning! I've never had a better home-cooked breakfast (sorry Mom!) We will be back!

Loved loved loved our stay here at the inn. What a beautiful well kept place full of charm and history. Delightful, kind spirited innkeepers, delicious food, and 2 doggies round out a wonderful experience.

This place was amazing! Perfect for me and my wife! Service was spectacular, and having dogs to play with made it mote enjoyable!

We spent the weekend with two other couples and had a wonderful time! On Friday night we went to the Harmony Hill Winery and enjoyed the wine and meeting the owner. Saturday was a wonderfully relaxing day by the pool. The Inn is a wonderful combination of historic beauty and charm and modern conveniences. Tom and Carole are gracious hosts and the breakfasts were some of the best we've had at any B&B.

Great B & B. We stayed in the smoke house and it was charming. Walking out to the pool a few steps away was an added plus!

2 of us had a wonderful stay for 6 nights, enjoying the huge pool and the air conditioned house to escape the 100+ degree days, when we weren't visiting family in the area. The house is grand and the bedrooms roomy and comfy. Wi-Fi was appreciated, and we're hoping that Carole gets a cookbook printed of her spectacular 2-course breakfasts. We were in awe. Best coffee in Clermont County, too! Carole & Tom were gracious and welcoming hosts, and we look forward to visiting another time.

We had a nice quiet and relaxing time which was very much needed. The clawfoot tub was awesome.

My husband and I had a wonderful one night stay at the 1861 Inn over July 4. The hospitality was impeccable, and our breakfast magnificicent. We are not frequent users of bed and breakfast establishments but following this experience we are highly likely to consider this option when booking future getaways.

1861 Is a nice old fashioned B&B. There is a lot of history in the house and property. The owners Carole and Tom are very hospitable. They made the stay enjoyable and comfortable. It was like meeting new friends

We had a wonderful stay at the 1861 Inn. We are so excited to go back . In fact, we are trying to organize a family vacation and plan on making the 1861 our lodging. I would highly reccomend this Inn to anyone staying in the area!

From arrival to departure just a true gem to stay at while in the area. Accommodated dietary and schedule needs, arranged in room massages for us and the entire time a very professionally managed Inn. We booked all three rooms and when we left felt like we were leaving a friends home. If in the area this is one oasis you need to visit.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights after our wedding. They stayed up for us and made sure we got settled in when we arrived very late and made sure to set up meal times that would accommodate us and all their guests! Very quiet and secluded, just the thing to unwind after the hustle and bustle of wedding planning and execution!

We stayed only one night and didn't have a lot of time to explore the Inn since we were visiting some family in Cincinnati, but we were glad we made the drive out of town. 1861 Inn is a quiet and comfortable retreat and the breakfast was outstanding. If we ever have the chance to visit again, there appears to be quite a bit of history to explore right there on the grounds. Tom was pleasant and accommodating, very helpful in giving us tips for scenic driving routes, etc.

Cheryl and I,Jim,were very impressed by the hospitality we received from Tom and Carol. it felt like going to our family home. The layout of our room was perfect for an anniversary getaway. The claw-foot bathtub with shower head was an unexpected luxury. The bed was so soft and spacious with plenty of pillows for lounging. The overall decor was very classic to the period and left us in awe when we opened our door for the first time. The tranquility at the inn so close to civilization was a welcome respite from a very hectic few weeks at home for us. After we put our luggage in our room we spent an hour in the front porch swing before retiring for the night. The breakfast was especially tasty with lots of variety and generous portions of wonderful blueberry pancakes , bacon. We loved the fruit and nuts with yogurt and ample supply of coffee, juices and milk. I was full until our evening meal at home. Thanks for a great escape from the fast pace of our life.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway to have some time alone before I deploy for a year. It was a perfect retreat - quiet, beautiful rooms, generous service, and an interesting house. Tom & Carole are wonderful hosts who made us feel welcome. If you are looking for a nice B&B in this area, you've found it.

My wife and I spent a wonderful evening together out on the screened in porch listening to the sounds of nature and gazing at the star lit sky. We will be back.

Jackie and I were looking for a place to get away for a couple of days. We found it! The room we stayed in on the second floor had a screened in porch that overlooked the back yard and pool. It was great to sit out there and read or just sit. They showed us one of the other rooms that had a fireplace that would have also been a cozy place to stay. The breakfasts were excellent...something different every day and hearty...the coffee was delicious! We had one of the dinners...Flat Iron Steak. The steak was grilled to perfection and the vegetables...green beans....were some of the best I have had. Best of all were Tom and Carole...perfect hosts,,,warm and friendly and great company... I would recommend 1861 to anyone...and we will be back.

The 1861 Inn proved to be an ideal place for my wife and I to spend a great night away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. The dining was fantastic as was the room we stayed in. We especially loved the fireplace and the bathtub. What a great relaxing atmosphere.

To these two veteran world travelers, always on the lookout for the memorable visit, the 1861 Inn would have been an interesting and pleasant place to visit in its own right; however, the hospitality and attentiveness of Tom & Carole elevated this to an exceptional experience. For example, who would have thought that we would come to Batavia, Ohio for one the finest dining experiences in recent memory. I strongly urge visitors to coordinate their stay, if possible, with the Cottrills and splurge on a special dinner created by Carole, in addition to the delicious and sumptuous breakfast included. Tom's suggestions were very helpful in making the most of our stay, and enjoying the local area. Our hosts were both wonderfully attentive to our needs and preferences, creating a comfortable 'at home' feeling. Tom is eager to share the history of the Inn, and gives an interesting tour of the home. We stayed in the detached Cottage, the former smokehouse. It was charming and comfortable, and offers private access from the main house. We spent a cozy evening in our cottage by the fire after a convivial evening of dining and conversation with both our hosts and the other guests. We are looking forward to future visits - like all great hosts Tom & Carole have the ability to make their guests feel at ease and at home.

I could not have asked for anything better than our stay here. Tom and Carole are wonderful people, and their attention to detail made this trip even better than we could have expected. We will be back soon!

A warm welcome and a historical tour were provided by Carole on arrival. We were impressed at the knowledge and care put into the Inn. Tom & Carole taught us a new card game and we had so much fun with them that we skipped going anywhere and just stayed at the inn for the entire evening! Breakfast was incredibly delicious and we really felt pampered. We went with our friends and decided to go back in the summer to enjoy the view, pool and hot tub. Such an incredible experience and less than 2 hours from home right here in Ohio! Thank you so much Tom & Carole! We highly recommend this for a great getaway and wonderful hospitality!

Our stay was fantastic. I would definitely stay at 1861 Inn again. The host and hostess were very friendly and very informative of the area and things to do. They also joined us in a card game. This is the second time my husband and I have gotten away for a quiet evening at the 1861 Inn. Tom and Carol are wonderful hosts that make sure you have what you need, without stepping on your privacy. The rooms are nicely decorated, and the food is amazing. Cozying up by the fire in the library makes for a beautiful startof slowing down for a relaxing weekend away. I'm sure this won't be our lastrealaxing time away at the 1861 Inn in Batavia , Ohio.

My wife and I were looking for an opportunity to regroup after a stressful stretch, and we certainly found it at the 1861 Inn. Tom and Carol were the perfect hosts, full of good recommendations and history for the house and the area. Breakfasts were outstanding! We stayed in the cottage, and it was just charming. It was a dark and rainy night when we arrived; Tom came out to greet us with an umbrella. An interesting history of the house by Carol and a hot cup of tea shook off all the tensions of the day. The Riverview room with the sparkle of the fireplace and my husband soaking in the claw foot tub... life is good at the inn.

My wife and stayed to celebrate our 5th Anniversary and had a wonderful weekend! The night before we were to go, our son was up all night long sick and it looked like we weren't going to be able to make it, so I called to cancel. Later that morning, he was feeling better and my mother in law offered to keep him so we could still go. I called Tom back to see if it was too late and they graciously accommodated us. The house was beautiful, I told my wife to take pictures because it was the sort of house I'd like to live in one day! We stayed in the guest cottage, which was just wonderful. We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon, strolling on the grounds and relaxing around the house reading. Then we ate dinner at the Inn (that's an option, be sure to take advantage of it!) with Tom and Carole and another guest couple. Butternut squash soup, salad greens with roasted pears, steak with mushroom sauce, roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a delicious pie for dessert! The food was easily the quality of a fancy restaurant, but with seconds! I normally don't like brussel sprouts, but I not only ate them, I had seconds! After dinner, we all sat around a fire outside and Tom told us stories about the history of the Inn and Batavia. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we enjoyed a nice night's sleep. Breakfast was another incredible meal, pineapple in yogurt, fresh baked muffins, and belgian waffles! The Inn is only about 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, but you feel like you're out in the woods, secluded. Tom and Carole have 2 adorable dogs, a cocker spaniel and a springer spaniel. If you love dogs, you'll love these two! All in all, a wonderful experience. They even gave us a coupon for our next stay, which we definitely be using!

We were greeted by Carole and her two dogs with tails wagging. The friendly and relaxing atmosphere created by our hosts made our stay even more enjoyable. The glass of wine upon our arrival, coffee waiting for me in the morning (I get up early), our scrumptious breakfast and the conversation at the breakfast table (we didn't leave until 10:30) made this an exceptional experience.

We needed a quiet night away for our anniversary so I surprised my husband with this bed and breakfast. The Inn is tastefully decorated. Each room offers a special ammenity. The food was delicious and the hosts were extremely delightful. I would highly reccomend staying at the 1861 Inn.

My husband and I needed a night away from our triplets, and the 1861 Inn did not disappoint. We have a wonderful dinner followed by a dip in the hot tub. In the am breakfast was delicious followed by a swim in the pool. Felt like we have a week's vacation and we were there less than 24 hours.

We just got back home from a nice visit to the Cincinnati area. We decided to stay at the 1861 Inn because of all the great reviews and we were not disappointed. I wish we would have had more time to relax at the Inn. The breakfasts were outstanding! The hosts were knowledgeable and very accommodating (They even turned the hot tub on so we could relax in it after a late dinner). The two dogs were well behaved and fun to be around. We stayed in the Guest Cottage which is separate from the house. The room was well maintained and clean. I would definitely recommend the Inn if you are looking for a great B and B!

Our stay at the 1861 Inn was brief but very enjoyable. The hosts went out of their way to make the visit pleasurable. My wife and I needed to get away for a few days and the 1861 Inn was a great choice. Carole and Tom were as charming as the Inn. Our room was extremely comfortable and the pool was amazing.

Our stay was wonderful. The bed was so comfy, there were many places to relax besides in the house: the large front porch, the pool side chairs, and our room had a screened porch where we read and relaxed. The pool was perfect after a day of bicycle riding in Milford or hiking in East Fork park. And only 12 miles from the winery where the music and wine were excellent. what a great place to stay! tom & carole were such great hostesses, they made us feel welcome and even gave us a packed breakfast at 6:30 am so we wouldn't be late for the class we were taking. The room we stayed in was very nice and comfortable. Im so glad we found this bed and breakfast and next time we are in Cincinnati area we will be sure to stay again!

Tom and Carole are outstanding hosts and have created a magical oasis in the middle of a busy area. It is not often that one can stay and enjoy a fully restored (and modernized) historical property in such comfort while at the same time thinking that you are looking at and experiencing what life might have been like 100 years ago. We not only had breakfast but also supper at the Inn and would highly recommend it to everyone. Carole and Tom are chefs par excellence and great company at the same time.

Carole and Tom make an art of welcoming their guests. We felt very much "at home" from the moment we arrived. Even the animals are welcoming! We loved the dinner Carole prepared and enjoyed the company of other guests (including a New York Met Opera star.)

Our room was beautiful and we were delighted with the "Sweet Dreams" snack on our night stand when we got back from dinner. The breakfast was out of this world! There are many upscale, first-class, well-run B&Bs in grand historic homes, and the 1861 Inn is one of them. But here is what really distinguishes this Inn: the innkeepers, Carole & Tom. They are genuine "people people," totally invested in making your stay flawless. They don't "hover"; instead they are down-to-Earth, very sociable, knowledgable, good-humored, and they enjoy getting to know you & will talk about anything. A nice option: sign on for Carole's excellent dinners (best salmon I ever enjoyed), and ask them to dine with you. For us, each dinner was a 3-hour affair b/c we lingered and talked--they are that interesting. They also have 2 dogs who are part of the family, adding to the fun (they'll pen the pups for those who aren't comfortable around dogs). My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing weekend at the 1861 Inn. There is plenty to do in nearby Cincinnati but we enjoyed hanging out on the screened in porch, swinging on the porch swing, and walking around the property. Carole is an amazing chef and both Carole and Tom made us feel completely at home and went out of their way to help us in any way. We definitely want to visit again and would highly recommend this bed and breakfast!

Carole & Tom are gracious hosts who readily accommodated our dietary preferences and also recommended good places for evening dining in nearby Milford. Adding to our enjoyment were their two friendly but not intrusive dogs. Carole's training in culinary arts was evident. Suggestion for those driving to the 1861 from I-275: If you expect to arrive after 3 p.m. on a business day consider using the exit north of the Highway 32 exit in order to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic near the Eastgate shopping area. You may drive a few extra miles but at least you should keep moving.

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage with a wood-burning fireplace. Carol made a delicious breakfast and showed us the house and talked about the history of it as well. Tom and Carol are both very friendly and greeted us as if we were their good friends. We wish we could have stayed longer.

In need of some much needed R & R recently and got just that at 1861 Inn. My stay could not have been better. The property was just beautiful and the Innkeepers, Tom and Carole, were so welcoming :) Stayed in 2 of the rooms during my recent visit, both of which were outstanding. Food was fabulous!! I will definitely be vistiting the 1861 Inn again, hopefully very soon :)

I and a couple of friends are hiking around the state of Ohio, When we made our way to Batavia and found Tom and Carole of whom own and mantain the 1861 inn. I must say, this place is what America once was and what we would love to have back. Everything from the slam of the screen door, the wooden planks on the porch, to the comfortable silence the home offers. My favorite part was rocking on the back porch all nite with friends.

We had a wonderful time at the 1861 Inn. Carole was very polite and made a wonderful meal in the morning. The conversation was great. I would encourage anyone to stay there. I am sure we will go back at some point as well.

We stayed in the Riverview room. It was wonderful and relaxing. The fireplace is woodburning - simply light one of the 4-hour logs provided and enjoy an entire evening of a real, crackling fire. My husband loved the steam shower. The only disappointment was the bathtub - due to its shape, it wasn't exactly comfortable. The breakfast was amazing and the property was beautiful. I probably could have spent half the day just sitting on the porch swing and admiring the surroundings. I would definitely recommend it.

We just completed our second stay at the 1861 Inn and it was just as wonderful as the first! We live locally, but don't feel the need to travel any farther than Batavia for the best B&B stay that there is! The rooms are just beautiful and always clean and comfortable. We love the company of Tom and Carole and their sweet dogs, Toga and Casey. The food is delicious and leaves you very satisfied. We feel very lucky that we only have a 25 minute drive to get to our "home away from home". Thanks, Tom and Carole, for making our stay so memorable!

I stayed at the 1861 Inn as I had meetings in the area. The inn keepers were wonderful... Who doesnt love to come "home" to the smell of home-made brownies?? The breakfast was perfect. Location was convenient. I absolutely plan to come back.

MY WIFE AND I HAD A PERFECT WEEKEND! THE FOOD WAS GREAT. MY WIFE LIKES ANTIQUING CAROLE GAVE US DIRECTIONS TO A COUPLE OF PLACES TO GO TO THE PLACES SHE GAVE US WERE PERFECT. WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH OUR ROOM AND TOM WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE WILL BE COMING BACK THE NEXT TIME WE TAKE A WEEKEND GETAWAY THANKS AGAIN CAROLE AND TOM.

My husband and I were in the midst of planning a huge wedding for December 31st but decided we couldn't wait any longer. With just our families, we got married the day before Thanksgiving in the courthouse and then headed to the 1861 inn for a private honeymoon. We were keeping it a secret from all our guests for the next month, but with Tom and Carole we just burst out with the news! They shared our excitement, brought champagne to the pool house and looked at our pictures. A day after our new years eve wedding we headed back to the inn. Carole and Tom offered wine, handmade caramel from a friend, and amazing conversation. Even though I'm pretty allergic to animals and they adore them and have three, we think this will always be our stopping point when we visit Cincinnati/experience happy things we want to share with our new friends. The pool house is extremely private and comfortable, and breakfast both times was delicious. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed in Jenny's room at the 1861 Inn on November 5, 2010. It's at the top of this beautiful, well cared for Victorian home. Though not a large room, it's cozy and beautifully decorated. It has a screened-in porch attached that overlooks the pool. We were greeted joyfully in the morning by the two resident dogs and the coffee outside our door was wonderful pampering. Breakfast was great and we enjoyed talking to Carole and Tom, the owners. Carole gave us some great ideas for exploring the area. Our only regret was that it wasn't summer so we couldn't enjoy the porch and pool! We'll just have to come back next year in the summertime! We like to stay in B&Bs whenever possible and we'd recommend this one to everyone.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our way from Cleveland to Cumberland Falls state park. We had a great time! It was our first time at a B&B, and we would definitely return here.

The home and rooms were lovely and the breakfast was tasty. There's a library that's a pleasant reading spot and in which the hosts have an old photo album filled with vintage pics (from the early-mid 20th century) of the home, its residents and their friends and family. They've decorated and renovated in such a way that modern amenities are available but the historic feel of the home predominates. The hosts' hospitality tops even those wonderful features. We were very late getting in the night of our arrival, yet Tom was there to greet us and even set the dinner table so we could eat our take-out food in the dining room, then sat with us and told us stories about the home and property. The next morning, Carole joined us after breakfast and entertained us with stories about the community and what she enjoys about running a B&B. Our visit was truly enjoyable and relaxing.

We stayed in the beautiful 1861 Inn while visiting friends and family in nearby Williamsburg. The Inn is very well kept and felt as if you are staying with friends. Carole and Tom are experienced and gracious hosts and we would positively stay with them again next time we visit the area.

My wife and I had a great time. The grounds and house are beautiful, our room was lovely (ours had a clawfoot tub and a wood-burning fireplace ready to go!), and Tom was very nice. The breakfast was delicious. We've stayed at about half a dozen B&Bs. This one is among our favorites.

I made a last-minute switch from a chain hotel and couldn't have been happier with the result. Carole and Tom are marvelous, caring hosts and the rooms are warm and comfortable. A great combination of old world charm with modern amenities. Highly recommended!

Great establishment, centrally located near Cincinatti. Our hosts Tom and Carole were a true delight. We stayed in the very quaint poolhouse to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. They provided all of the extra touches to make it better than we could have imagined. The food was excellent, the company great, and attention to detail outstanding! What a well run establishment by two very genuine nice people. And i have to mention how cute the dogs are! We cannot wait to return again...so much to do in the area and so little time. We stayed here on our wedding night before leaving for the wilds of Illinois. The room was fantastic. The hosts were kind and gracious. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable. The service and cooking was outstanding. Would definitely stay again!

Tom and Carole have a beautiful thing going here. The house was built around 1860 and they have kept it in fantastic shape. Although we didn't see the cottage by the pool, you'll want to stay in both guest rooms in the house at the same time because they're so elegantly and creatively decorated. We stayed in the room called "Jenny's Retreat, which features a very comfortable bed, a bathroom built rather cleverly into a closet, and the original hardwood floors dating back about 150 years. Being surprised with a plate of brownies was a nice touch, as is the morning tray of coffee and juice with a newspaper. The in-ground hot tub was very cozy and just the right temperature. However, the best part of the stay was the breakfast. Don't remember what it was called but Carole cooked up something like a bread pudding topped with roasted peaches, and I recommend this tasty dish to anyone. Also, take Tom's advice and have dinner at an Italian restaurant in nearby Milford called "Padrino". Simply the best Italian food I've ever eaten. Everyone should take a night or two with a loved one and be guests at the 1861 Inn. It was a very pleasant experience and my wife and I will certainly return one day.

Over the years, my husband and I have stayed at several lovely B&B's. The 1861 Inn is one of the very best and an unexpected gem tucked away in a charming neighborhood. The home is immaculate, the beds extremely comfortable, the atmosphere romantic, and the food incredible. We even had our own second story screened in porch attached to our room that overlooked the beautifully manicured back yard and inground pool and hottub. The innkeepers, Tom and Carole, were our favorite part of the stay. After only 1 night, the 1861 Inn felt like home!

We were procrastinators about planning the details of our 10th anniversary escape. Once we started hunting for B&B's, southern Ohio seemed just far enough away from the real world. Having looked thru several sites with dozens of locations, this one was the first to make us both stop. From the website we loved that it was a period house, but still affordable. Carole & Tom were absolutely have created an oasis. They were welcoming and accommodating and thought of lots of details. Their dogs are excellent greeters. We stayed in the guest house, which almost felt like an escape the the coast. Food was lovely and plentiful. We will absolutely return and stay in other rooms as well. We were looking for a B&B close to Cincy that was relaxing and enjoyable. We definitely found it! We had a great time getting to know the owners, walking the grounds, and relaxing in our room. The breakfast was more than enough and very delicious. They did a GREAT job making our stay more special since we were celebrating a birthday. They made us special notes, cupcakes, and a requested breakfast. We loved our stay soooo much that we actually drove home and booked for a stay for a month later when we would be in the area again!

Our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast was definitely one we will always remember. We got married the night before and were looking for a place to relax and get away for a night. Tom and Carole were great hosts and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub in the afternoon. They have two very friendly dogs that we played with as well. We had a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant that Tom recommended and when we came back they had champagne on ice in our room. Breakfast was fantastic as well. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I wanted to celebrate his birthday by attending a Reds game. Because we didn't live in Cincinnati, we were in search of a hotel when we came across the 1861 Inn. In the end, we were very happy about choosing the bed & breakfast option. The Innkeepers were extremely friendly and welcoming. The cottage room was the perfect private overnight stay, which was what we needed! Thank you.

Carole and Tom are the best! From the moment we stepped onto their property they were the most gracious hosts'. We have never felt as welcome anywhere else as we did there. Our stay was a great way to slow down and celebrate our anniversary in comfort! Some of the highlights: the iced tea tray delivered to our room on arrival, the secluded pool area, the amazing breakfasts, and the kindness of our hosts! Some tips: splurge on the wine/cheese tray...totally worth it, sitting by the pool! Visit nearby Milford for fine dining and cupcakes at Sugar. Sit on the porch and enjoy an afternoon rainstorm. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed being in such a lovely country setting. The Inn is charming and beautifully decorated with antiques. Our room also had a lovely large screened-in porch overlooking the pool.

We wanted a quiet place to celebrate our anniversary. I was looking for a place with a pool and found the perfect place. We stayed in the cottage with the pool right outside our door. After we arrived we swam in the pool. We went to Milford for supper and when we got back we swam again and relaxed in the hot tub. Tom brought drinks and brownies right to the poolside for us to enjoy. After the nice breakfast we swam again. Thanks Carol & Tom for your great hospitality! We hope to repeat this experience on our next anniversary or sooner.

I'm almost reluctant to write this review because we'd love to keep this wonderful little inn a secret all to ourselves! We stayed for one night on August 7, 2010 in the "Jenny's Retreat" room. Upon arrival, Carole gave us the tour accompanied by Toga and Casey, their gorgeous, friendly spaniels. We had the place to ourselves that night and after some time by the pool, and tossing balls for Toga to fetch, we headed to dinner in nearby Milford to a great restaurant recommended by Carole. Later that evening we relaxed on the screened-in porch adjacent to our room - a perfect setting. Carole surprised us with yummy brownies in our room and we didn't even have to ask for a wine opener for the bottle she knew we had brought with us, it was waiting in our room when returned from dinner. Breakfast was phenomenal and served poolside on a spectacular summer morning. Carole and Tom were both so gracious and welcoming. We loved our stay and only wish it could have been longer. We'll definitely be back!

I stayed at the 1861 Inn for two days and two nights. I'd found it by looking for hotels and other accommodations online, and was immediately taken by the beauty of the place and the very reasonable rates--lower than most of the other places I'd looked at in the Cincinnati/Newport area. I stayed in the Guest House, which was very cozy and comfortable for me and my girlfriend. The pool (which is larger than it appeared to be in the photos) was a few steps outside of our door, and we enjoyed using it. At night the air conditioner kept us cool and comfortable. During the day when we went out it was only a short drive down the nearby highway to get to Newport/Cincinnati. All of that would have made our stay at 1861 Inn excellent, but that's not even the best part. What made this a perfect weekend was the fact that the innkeepers, Carole and Tom, are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They will make you feel like you are staying with two of your best friends . . . people who know you and like you and who look forward to taking care of you. Actually, even that doesn't go far enough. I left the 1861 Inn feeling that I had just made two wonderful new friends, and I am going to be looking for a reason to go back to Batavia again to stay with them.

My husband and I stayed at the INN on July 28th 2010 for our 30th anniversary. The experience was pleasant from the moment we arrived and was greeted by their dogs, KC and Toga, to the time we checked out. Upon arrival, Tom gave us a tour and the history of the house and answered any questions we had. Both Tom and Carole were very gracious, warm and welcoming. We had a very nice dip in the outdoor pool and relaxed on the patio that is landscaped with colorful wildflowers and foliage. We stayed in Jenny's Room which was warm and cozy. We so enjoyed the covered porch that is very private and decorated nicely. Each room is decorated so beautifully in their home. The library is stocked with plenty of reading material. We enjoyed having a TV in our room and the “sweet dreams” snack that they brought to our room in the evening. The beds are wonderful and so very comfortable. Morning coffee and newspaper was bought to our room before breakfast which we enjoyed on the screened porch. And what a breadfast, it was very unique, delicious and bountiful. We felt pampered our whole stay and will for sure go back again and again and have already told our friends about the 1861 INN. An awesome experience. Neal and Theresa/Ohio

The 1861 Inn is conveniently located and provided a wonderful change of pace, gracious hospitality, and delicious breakfast and dinner experience. Quiet, with comfortable bed and luxurious linens, my stay was restful and refreshing prior to my business appointments the next day. My daughter and son-in-law chose to be married on the front porch of the 1861 Inn. The wedding was very special and just as they had imagined. Tom and Carole were wonderful hosts, always helpful and the accommodations and the food were excellent. We all had a very memorable weekend and enjoyed our stay so much.

This is the perfect place to stay, if you have kids rowing at Harsha lake! Carol and Tom made me feel extremely welcome, the food was amazing, and it was a beautiful quiet place to rest and relax, unlike the hotels where all the kids were staying for Nationals. Being from Seattle, the pool was a real treat to help me cool down from the heat and humidity. I stayed in the riveside room, and it was gorgeous! Lots of space and even movies to watch while waiting for a storm to pass. I also enjoyed the chance to meet other rowing parents....this would be a great place for friends to stay as a group during a regatta!

Having just returned from a five day stay at the 1861 Inn, I feel qualified to wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for charming and comfortable accommodations in the Cincinnati area. There were so many rooms and porches to just sit and read. Breakfast every morning was delicious. It was totally relaxing and Carole and Tom are the absolute best!

My husband and I have visited many B&Bs in the US and UK and the 1861 Inn is one of the most beautiful, most comfortable we've been to. Exquisite in every way!

Celebrated our first anniversary here! A great place to stay - feels like you are in the country, but you are really so close to so much to do! Food was awesome, and Carole and Tom are great hosts! Would recommend to anyone whether you are wanting a little getaway or are on a business trip.

I wanted to treat my fiance to a relaxing stay somewhere quiet after a particularly stressful week at work. The 1861 Inn was all that I hoped for, and more! It is full of charm, serenity, and the Innkeepers are absolutely delightful hosts. I highly recommend this B&B! We'll definitely be back!

Ginny and I had a wonderful experience at the 1861 Inn. Very comfy bed, excellent breakfasts and great visits with Carole and Tom. You two made us feel like we were home. Loved the visits on the porch at night. We will be back in the fall. Outstanding B&B!!!

Our visit to 1861 Inn was a reunion of friends from four states. Their location is easy to get to and Cincinnatti has many interesting neighborhoods to explore during the day. The Inn has lots of places to linger with friends - especially the front living room when the evening sun in coming through the windows. The dining room with the magnolia wall paper is a cheery way to start the day gathered around the dining table over coffee / tea / and a great breakfast prepared by the inn keeper. Even special dietary needs are accomodated with ease. We will definitely stay at 1861 Inn in the future.

This was our third stay at 1861 Inn. Our previous visits were solo stays and the Inn provided us with a wonderfully quiet, relaxed get away trip. This time, we were joined by several friends from different locations. We met at the Inn to celebrate two birthdays. As good as the Inn was for our solo trips, it was even better for a weekend with friends. It was like having those friends visit us at our own home. The atmosphere was perfect and the event was truely special. We shared old times, great meals (thanks Carol), and wonderful suggestions for day trips (thanks Carol & Tom). The 1861 Inn is a great place to stay if you want to just relax. But, it's location also makes it a great location if you are in Cincinnati to enjoy downtown and the river area - so convenient. We'll stay there anytime we are in the Cinncy area. It's wonderful.

Most enjoyable and relaxing 3 nights we've ever experienced on our many trips across America's midwest from Colorado to many places in the East. Why stay in a Hotel or Motel anywhere in the Cincinatti area when you can have real Luxury at a very affordable price.This will be our #1 choice in this area from now on.........W&J..Centennial Colorado.

We thouroughly enjoyed our short (one night) stay at the 1861 Inn. Carole and Tom are the perfect innkeepers -- accomodating, informative, friendly, but not intrusive. There were carrot cake cupcakes waiting for us when we returned from a walk around Batavia and East Fork State Park, and breakfast was creative and delicious! If we return in the summer, we'll book the room with the sitting porch that overlooks the pool, or maybe even the "smokehouse" private guest room!

The Inn was beautiful. The room was very clean and well kept. We enjoyed the innkeepers hospitality. The breakfest was fantastic. We would choose this Inn again. It will always be a special place for us because we made it our engagement evening. John & Marie

We stayed in the Riverview room which had a fireplace and a clawfoot soaker tub. It was fabulous! The Inn keepers were very friendly and helpful in recommending places to visit and eat in the area. Definitley a place to go back to for some couple time!

If you want to be catered to, this is the place to go. The fresh aroma of coffee being left in front of our room door and the pleasant taste of the pumpkin waffles were surprisingly not the highlight of our trip. The Inn Keepers, Tom and Carol were absolute wonderful host(s) and made our stay in their home a pleasurable experience. We were not treated as guest, we were treated as long time friends. We look forward to visiting their home again to enjoy the warm conversations and pumpkin waffles with whip cream.

My husband and I had never been to a B&B and our first stay will keep us coming back again and again. From the stimulating conversation to the beautiful rooms, we were continually pleased! The poolside breakfast and the refreshments sent to our room were the icing on the cake of the amazing stay. We can't wait to come up with a reason to go back for another night or two! We can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay. Carole and Tom truely made us part of their family. The Inn and it's surroundings (including breakfast) was like something out of a movie. We will definitely be returning again as guests at The 1861 Inn!

My husband and I just got back from the 1861 Inn and we wish we were still there! Carole and Tom are the nicest, most hospitable hosts you could imagine. The food is excellent, Carole's experience at the Cullinary Institute shines through each morning. All three rooms are absolutely gorgeous and very cozy. My recent stay at the 1861 Inn was my first "B & B experience." Maybe it was beginner's luck, but I was enchanted with all aspects of my visit! The house is lovely, the hosts welcoming and convivial, and the food...divine! My next trip to Cincinnati will definitely include a B & B -- but only if there's room at the (1861) Inn!

We recently spent a few days at the 1861 Inn and had an absolutely outstanding time. Everything was superb-the room, the food, the atmosphere. It was very peaceful and relaxing, although very close to Cincinnati. Tom and Carole are wonderful people and have gone to great lengths to make their guests feel at home. We will be back, especially to see Toga and Casey (the spaniels)!

Our 3-night stay was simply delightful! 1861 Inn is a beautiful place to stay with a very relaxing atmosphere. Tom and Carole are charming hosts who made sure we had every comfort; and, they are especially knowledgeable about what you might like to see and do in the Cincinnati area. The historic house is set back on several shaded and very private acres. The Inn is beautifully decorated, lovingly cared for, and inviting. Carole, whose cooking is consistently delicious, beautiful, & imaginative, delighted us with a special breakfast each morning. We stayed in the attractively appointed poolside bungalow, where Tom and Carole had provided everything we might need. The little refrigerator, stocked with beverages, in our cozy sitting/reading room, was a welcome surprise. My wife and I took much pleasure relaxing in the pool and the hot tub as well as chatting with other guests at the Inn. Thank you, Tom and Carole! 1861 Inn is the best B&B in the area, and we are eager to return!

This was one of the most relaxing, enjoyable weekend getaways my husband and I have had. The Inn is wonderful, full of history that Tom and Carole enjoying sharing. They are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to see that your every need is met. Coffee, juice and the moring paper were outside our door each morning. The breakfasts are a gourmet treat. We enjoyed a beautiful room with private screened in porch overlooking the pool and woods.

What a lovely experience! My stay at the 1861 Inn was enjoyable on so many levels... The house, exquisitely set on several wooded acres, is a beautifully restored architectural gem! The hosts are welcoming and convivial...proud of their lovely home and pleased to share it. And the food - simply delightful! It will rate "Four Stars" in anyone's book. Any complaints? The home is warm and inviting and the innkeepers gracious, caring about my every comfort. I loved the private screened in porch attached to my room, a place to sit and read but still enjoy the outside. The pool was refreshing. The breakfasts were gourmet and delicious. I loved that they brought me coffee in the morning half an hour before breakfast to drink as I woke up and got ready. I look forward to enjoying another rest and retreat here in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay at the 1861 Inn this summer. Jenny's Retreat was so nice with the enclosed porch overlooking the pool. We enjoyed the beautiful home and grounds, the delicious food and quiet surroundings. It was the little touches that impressed me; coffee and juice waiting outside our door in the morning, the refrigerator stocked with water and soda, and the always-full jar of M&Ms! This is a great place to get away with your special someone. My wife and I had a great time and enjoyed our stay with Carole, Tom, KC and Toga. The environment is everything you could ever wish for in a B&B; wonderful rooms, cottage, lovely gardens, seclusion, pool, hot tub, fabulous meals, homey but elegant community rooms, etc; a retreat spot unto itself. However, it is the hosts that put the experience over the top; amiable, kind, considerate, thoughtful, gracious.

Carol and Tom truly made our stay wonderful. From the gourmet breakfast, wealth of information, beautiful cottage, massage by the pool, hot tub, to greeting us at 11pm. We could not have asked for more gracious hosts. We look forward to returning someday.

We stayed here for the week before our son's wedding in Cincinnati. Coming from England we're very familiar with b-and-b's, good and bad, and this was one of the best we've experienced. We couldn't have hoped for a friendlier welcome, rooms with more character or better breakfasts. Carole & Tom went out of their way to contribute to our sense of occasion, and even helped out in a transport crisis. We would recommend the Inn without hesitation.

1861 Inn was very enjoyable. It provided a relaxing atmosphere, especially with the swimming pool. The pool and hot tub were beautiful lit up at night. We loved the screened in porch!

The Batavia Inn was so convenient to the regattas at Harsha Lake and to downtown Cincinnati. It was a little oasis at the end of a long, hot day. The room was beautiful, the bed extremely comfortable, and the breakfasts delicious. Carole and Tom could not have been more gracious or accomodating!
