B&B Railroad Depot

  • Inn Details

This wonderful combination is the result of fulfilled dreams met by Nate and Linda Brinkman. In 2001, after 30 years of marriage Nate Brinkman purchased a 1/8 scale Boston and Maine live steam engine. Soon after he convinced Linda to allow him to lay some 7 1/2" gauge track to be able to run his train at Home. Before she knew it, he had surrounded their little 1100 square foot home with 2300 feet of railroad track. Being a welder by trade, he began to build passenger cars and a transfer table to allow other people to run their engines on his track. Linda Brinkman quickly realized that this life long dream would only compliment her dream of owning a Bed and Breakfast. Creating the space required would mean a major renovation to their little home, so in 2002, Linda, a remodeling contractor, increased their 1,100 sq. ft. home to almost 3200 sq. ft. It was an overwhelming undertaking, but once it was completed the whole Greater Toledo area was taking it in. Several newspaper article have been written about their projects and even a television interview was done. Linda and Nate are enjoying every minute and would like to share what they have with you.

This was the first B&B that my husband and I stayed at outside of our home state, Michigan. Since there weren't any previous reviews posted for it, I was a tad apprehensive to book this place. Taking the chance, I reserved a room for us and also for the other couple we were traveling with. Linda was very warm on the phone and answered my numerous questions about the accomodations. On the day of arrival, she allowed us to check in earlier than her normal 4pm check-in time in order to allow us to continue our plans with freedom. The house is more modern and less stuffy than most of the B&B's we stay at. It definitely feels like she has opened her home to her guests. You are asked to choose your breakfast off a "menu" of choices. It sounded kind of funny at first, but what an excellent idea! The choices were a traditional egg breakfast, House Special, fruit-filled crepes, omelets, or pancakes. The breakfasts were served with red-skinned fried potatoes, fresh fruit, toast, and choice of beverage. Very relaxed atmosphere. The most memorable part of this B&B is the train that runs around the property! Yes, I said train. Linda's husband, Nate, has outdone himself by laying down an actual set of train tracks and takes the guests for a ride on it. What a cool experience. Even Linda and her dog Brutus (name does not relate to size of dog!), took a ride with us around the tracks. We had a comfortable stay and would consider staying there again. Definitely a recommeded B&B.
