Our Stay was Great!

4.2 on September 12, 2015

My wife and I had to find lodging in the area to attend a anti-bullying training. We stayed two nights. Our stay was great. Virginia was great. We were very pleased and are returning a year latter to attend more training and plan to fill the place with other guests. The cost is slightly lower than hotels in the area which some might expect it to be much lower. Only breakfast is served, which we knew in advance of our stay. The meal was good. There are many locations within walking distance to enjoy other meals. The only drawback is you must park on the street. Their was street construction during our last stay but we still managed to find a space.

"my place isn't for everyone"

1.8 on October 24, 2014

My wife booked a stay based on her conversation with the owner and the reviews. We arrived and had to call to have someone come let us in, this after being told that she(the owner will not be there). Her son arrived a half hour later and let us in. I asked if he would be staying the night, because he is the B&B representative. I was told yes.We returned that night and there was no one there. We woke the next morning and struck by the fact that we did not smell any coffee or breakfast. We went down to a still warming dining room. The brochure, and web site said Rate include full breakfast: coffee, teas, juice, egg variations, breakfast meats, sweet breads, and seasonal fresh fruits. What we received was a slightly lukewarm waffle, some fruit, cold syrup and lukewarm coffee. I asked for a hot cup of coffee, which I got. When I expressed my disappointment with the breakfast, I was told that they like to"switch up the breakfast". I missed that in the brochure. When my wife spoke with the owner, she was told"thank you for your feedback, but I guess my place isn't for everyone" God bless. My wife was very kind in speaking with the owner and very disappointed in the response she got back. If you stay here I hope you have a much better experience than we did, but remember if you don't I guess I guess her place just isn't for you.

Wonderful Historic Home

4.8 on July 25, 2013

I found The English Garden through their website. I traveled by train and was glad to learn that it was within walking distance from the train station. The house was lovely, my room was wonderful and the breakfast delicious and plentiful. Virginia was an excellent hostess who treated you as a guest In her home instead of a stranger. This was my first stay at a B & B but will not be my last, although I will compare all of them to The English Garden. I hope to make this an annual stay and would recommend it to anyone.

A Great Place

We spent a week here while attending a Tellington TTouch workshop nearby. We had a wonderful time! The house is lovely, our room was very nice and Virginia is a fantastic host. She was understanding of our desire to adjust breakfast time, even seeing the need and offering before we asked. The food was great, and portions substantial. We loved walking around the Stockade and along the river with our dog who also gives The English Garden B&B two paws up!

A Truly Enjoyable Stay

This was our second stay with Virginia - and this time we brought the dog! The house is historic and is furnished with lots of antiques, but also has the modern conveniences we all want. She makes the best breakfasts ever, and is very accommodating of food allergies. If you will be in this area, by all means stay here! You won't be disappointed!!

The innkeeper was a wonderful hostess. She made us feel like part of her family. Her grandchildren were a delight.

A terrific place to stay!

The innkeeper was very, very accommodating. We stayed here one night while changing trains from the Lakeshore Limited to the Adirondack lines. Virginia provided transportation from and to the Amtrak station. At breakfast we met several people who had stayed here longer and one gentleman who stays here often while in town for business. A really great B&B.
