Upper West Side Brownstone

110 West 81st Street , Manhattan, NY 10024 USA (Show map)

This 1892 brownstone has a facade that is Landmark Preservation Protected. Even so, I had the oldest Hot Water Solar Heat system on a multiple dwelling in the City Of New York installed in 1977. The old American Museum of Natural History, with its world-class dinosaur exhibit, and the new great Rose Planetarium are just across Columbus Avenue. The New York Historical Society (77th St.) and the Children's Museum (83rd St) are only a few blocks away. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (83rd and Fifth Avenue) is a pleasant walk across Central Park to reach Museum Mile featuring the Met, Guggenheim, Museum of the City of New York, Carnegie and Frick Art Museums. Lincoln Center (66th and Broadway) is a 17 short block walk or a quick trip on the Broadway #104 bus or two stops away on the #1 subway. Or, after visiting the Planetarium, why not stroll through Central Park and the Great Lawn, or see Strawberry Fields and the John Lennon memorial. With the #1 Subway at Broadway and 79th Street, the (B) and (C) Subway trains at Central Park West and 81st Street, and the Crosstown bus passing in front of your door (not to mention buses going up and down all the Avenues), you're within easy access of all New York City has to offer.

Great location

3.0 on August 20, 2012

Nice brownstone - apartment had lots of character. Very high ceilings, beautiful mantle and other nice touches. Loft bed was surprisingly comfortable, and we are pretty picky about mattresses. There was some mold on the tub, but otherwise neat and clean. It was a bonus to have a kitchen, etc., and the ability to entertain guests during our stay. Window air conditioning unit was very effective. Great location within easy walking distance of many restaurants, grocery, shopping, subway, Museum of Natural History, Central Park. Owner was friendly and accommodating. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Innkeeper Response
I was pleased with this review (except for the mold reference). I hire professional cleaning people, so I was surprised by it.
