4.2 out of 5Luxurious charm of a bygone era
June 29, 2012
We throughly enjoyed our 5 night stay in the Harlem Victorian. This owner-restored townhouse is an ongoing labor of love and, though a bit rough around the edges in places, it retains the original layout of rooms and many original fixtures, moldings, and luxurious charm of a bygone era. Our room was comfortable, clean, spacious, and quiet. As of this writing it is the only guest room in the house, so it offers total privacy. The owner was genial and accommodating, above and beyond the expected norm, in our experience. He also knows the ins and outs of the neighborhood and can offer seasoned advice on dining and sites. Breakfast was generous, and coffee and tea in the rooms was a welcome plus. We'll definitely come back when we next stay in Harlem, and highly recommend the Harlem Victorian to anyone looking for a genuine New York experience!
3.6 out of 5Homey and soulful in Manhatten

Large and cozey room with a very nice bed. Each day a royal breakfast is served by the innkeeper who has loads of good tips on the city. Public transport is near and Times Square is just 15 minutes away. Around the corner there's Red Rooster and Chez Lucienne for good food and the neighbourhood is alive, but silent at night. Maintenance could be improved, but for a week by yourself in NYC good value for your money.

4.4 out of 5A wonderful place to stay

You won't beat this place for value and location. A charming room with the most gracious innkeeper in NY. An historic house in Harlem at a very reasonable rate.
3.4 out of 5Nice Bed & Breakfast
May 10, 2012
Very convenient location and cordial host. Older guests should be aware of one flight of steep stairs. Comfortable bed, generous breakfast (bagel & cream cheese, muffin, yogurt, orange juice), coffee and tea in your room. Nice towels but I could have used a face cloth. Also could have used brighter bedside light - not very good for reading. All in all, a good value for NYC and I would stay here again.
3.2 out of 5At home in Harlem
April 15, 2012
The bed and breakfast is in a brownstone near restaurants in the heart of Harlem, easy walking distance to the subway. The host is very welcoming and accommodating. The house is being restored to its original state after years as an SRO; it is attractive but a bit rough in places. The bathroom is on the hall. There are two cats who like to visit, if you let them in.
3.4 out of 5Very good place to stay in NYC

I stayed for 5 nights: very friendly and helpful innkeeper, nice and clean room and bath, close to subway station. I would book again!
