Gordy Jackson, born in New Orleans, Louisiana started the Yellow Block B & B simply out of his enjoyment to be a good host, and his love for food. He and his sons are best described as hardworking, honest and always laughing. He has worked in the hospitality business for over 30 years, as a bus boy, dishwasher, valet car driver and ultimately in the kitchen of the world acclaimed hotels of New York and the Catskill Mountains. It is his love for the country and complete adoration for New York City that makes for a real at home professional stay at the Yellow Block B & B. As the Innkeeper, Gordy is there to show you the G train or point you in the direction to Brooklyn Academy of Music. To put simply "I love new York". And I am sure you will to at if you stay at the Yellow Block, one New York's premiere locations for an alternative short term stay.

Nice House and Rooms for the traveler on a budget

    June 01, 2012

Gordy is a welcoming host and the renovated brownstone house is bright and cheerfully painted. the neighborhood is safe enough (always be careful in the city) and full of Brooklyn Brownstones. The crowd that stays here is young and nice. As a single traveler, I found the room decent and comforatble. Getting to Manhattan from this neighborhood is not a problem.

You definitely get what you paid for and then some. The rooms are newly furbished - smelled like paint when we arrived, but the rooms were clean with new linens and towels. The owner is extremely friendly and is really interested in making your stay the best that it can be. Breakfast is nice and simple with fresh bagels and spread, juice, yogurt, and fruit - good for on the go like we were doing. Some rooms are joined within an apartment style setup, others are separate, but bathrooms are shared. Bonus! Only a few blocks from the G-line metro:)
