Liz and Jim are absolutely wonderful. Their yorkie Henry is adorable and is Jim's sidekick on his tractor. Made us feel so comfortable and like family. Liz's breakfast selections are delicious, varied and plentiful -- she uses herbs from her garden in her cooking. -- and she sets a beautiful table. We stayed for two nights this Memorial Day weekend and wished we could have stayed longer. The room was lovely and spotless. We will most definitely stay with them on our next visit. Thanks Liz and Jim for sharing your exquisite home with us. Leslie and Sheldon

    The best get away ever

    June 30, 2011

We stayed at the Charlton Farm Inn while our daughter was in the state Track finals in June 2011. It was the best choice we could have ever made! The stay couldn't have been more enjoyable. The room and bathroom were perfect, big enough for both of us with all the amenities. The house and grounds were a great place to wonder when we weren't watching track races giving us some peaceful strolls and relaxation. The food and the hospitality of Jim and Liz Welch was more than anyone could ever had expected. I wish I could get the recipes for some of what we ate! I would recommend the Charlton Inn Farm to everyone country or city alike. Make sure you make reservation for they fill fast!

    "The Mansion on the hill"

    November 14, 2010

My husband and I drove 10 hours and were very fatigued. Finally we made our destination to the Charlton Farm Inn. We have stayed at many inns in our travels, but this inn far exceeded our expectations. The photos on the website were gorgeous. That's why we picked this inn. However, after driving up the winding gravel road, we were greeted with the most beautiful grounds I have ever seen. It was like a dream! From every angle there were weeping willows, maples, a ginko tree and 440 acres of open space. At times we fantasized that this was "our" manstion retreat. We were greeted by Jim who warmly welcomed us to his home and showed us to our room. Liz, his wife is a very gracious warm and compassionate woman. She really loves her home. Everything during our stay was well planned. A wonderful comfortable bed, with luxurious bedding, towels, scented Soy candles and a fantastic view of the property. Breakfast was delicious and nutritious. Wonderfully prepared egg dishes, coffee and Mighty Leaf teas. And, serenity abounds with peace and quiet. Very restful stay. We will definitely come again. We highly recommend this inn.

As we entered the long driveway intersecting the main street of Avon we wondered whether we had made the correct turn. The Charlton Farm house was no where in sight. After driving a short distance passing a barn and other farm buildings we passed through some trees and our view opened up into a great expansive lawn. You can see the Charlton Farm house (30 room mansion) tucked into the opposite corner. The lawn is populated with large well placed trees and gardens. When we drove up to the house and stopped under the portico we were greeted by Liz and Jim Welch. We were shown to our room after a short introduction to the house and its history. Our room, and the others we viewed as well, was very large and had many windows inviting the outdoors inside. The whole house is large and light in every way. Our favorite place was the porch that ran the full width of the house. It is the one that is shown in the pictures . The porch overlooks a big expanse of grass, past the driveway and into the horse coral. Charlton Farm is an historical place where you are completely surrounded by nature, with a large lawn, well tended gardens, a hiking trail and 400 acres of farm land. When we were sitting on the porch it was difficult to believe that the town of Avon and a grocery store etc. was only a few hundred feet from the beginning of the driveway where we turned off of main street. Liz and Jim made every effort to assure that our stay was an experience to remember and it was. For example, one evening we had a bond fire and some conversation before turning in. Charlton Farm is more than a Bed and Breakfast. It is an opportunity to experience a historical accommodation offering a park like natural environment with gracious and attentive hostess and host. We recommend it. We stayed over the Memorial Day weekend in 2010.

    Our Laugh Your Way... stay

    September 11, 2010

We came on a Friday late afternoon. We were given a brief history and tour of the house by Jim Welch a few minutes after arriving and, since we were their only guests that weekend, we were given a choice of any of the rooms we wanted, even the most expensive room. The room was very luxurious, the bed huge and very comfortable, there was a walk in closet and a full bath. The house and grounds were neat and tidy. We were given a history lesson at breakfast on Saturday by Liz Welch; it was very interesting and I am sure she had many more facts and info she could have shared. We felt very much at home! Thank you Jim and Liz for a wonderful stay. Lord willing we will return many times! Jim and Johnna
