The Captain Visger House Bed & Breakfast is an elegant option in colorful Alexandria Bay where you are invited to step back in time to the Thousand Island’s genteel Gilded Age. This fully restored, architecturally significant home combines gracious antiques with 21st century conveniences. You’ll find TV and DVD in the parlor, WiFi, MP3 docks upon request, plush queen mattresses, luxurious cotton linens and optional specialties like chocolate, flowers and something bubbly to make your stay even more memorable. Some of our rooms have glimpses of the water, and the entire house can feel the gentle rumble of ocean-worthy freighters passing by. It’s somewhere between soothing and thrilling and always, always, uniquely “the river.” Breakfast is my greatest joy in this endeavor. I am passionate about locally grown, sustainable organic ingredients in the food I prepare with love. Awarded the 2008 Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, the Captain Visger House is distinguishing itself among travelers near and far. Make a reservation online or call between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 pm; or, give your loved ones the gift of luxurious accommodations and world-class cuisine by purchasing a Gift Certificate. In the spirit of the Captain himself, it is an honor to serve you. Celebrate all four seasons – we’re open year-round.

My husband and I have stayed here many times over the past 5 years. Each time has been a wonderful experience. The rooms are fantastic, the food is outstanding and you couldn't ask for a better innkeeper. We will continue to come here at least once every year!

My boyfriend and I just stayed at the Capt. Visger House in Alexandrea Bay and had such a wonderful time! The home was very inviting, the bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, the food amazing and the inn keeper was so sweet and helpful. I would definitely recommend this B & B to anyone staying in the 1000 Island area!

February 24, 2012
We absolutely loved our night at Captain Visger B&B! The house itself is really beautiful- the amount of love and TLC that went into maintaining the character of this house is very much clear. My now fiance and I stayed there on our way to Quebec City (where we got engaged!!!), and we stayed in the room with the jacuzzi tub which was incredibly relaxing. Even better was the breakfast in the morning- Sam the owner really catered to my dietary requests (vegetarian) and is such a wonderful lady. It may have been the best breakfast I have ever had. We are glad that we had such a wonderful night which kicked off such a wonderful weekend, and I would reccomend them to anyone!

Captain's Suite
The ultimate in Bed and Breakfast luxury. Our Captain’s Suite is spacious and magnificently appointed for the guest who wishes to really spread out. Step down into the large bathroom we’ve provided for you. Enjoy the powerful architecture, the walnut tables with marble tops, the fringe which softly hangs from the lamps, the cozy loveseat just big enough for two. The Captain’s Suite envelopes a good deal of the second floor and has maximum exposure and view. In fact, how many bathrooms in the entire world have a view of a river and giant freighters cruising by? Ours does!

Queen Victoria’s wild side is channeled in this space, my personal favorite. Catherine July offers a queen sized four-poster bed, all-cotton linens, a private bath, whimsy and a moose to keep watch over things. This delightful room is guaranteed to make you smile, Catherine July is the unique name of one of the Captain’s daughters; July for the beautiful month on the river? We’ll never know, but “her” room faces west-northwest, is very private at the top of the back staircase, and affords a peek of the main shipping channel with boats of all sizes and descriptions.

The mist that famously settles over the Saint Lawrence River in the morning gave us our color palette for Ella, named for another Visger daughter. Subdued and gentle tones soothe the spirit, while our luxurious jacuzzi bathtub for two will massage away worldly stresses. A large window at the bathroom sink gives you something to watch while you brush your teeth. And check out the brass bed! Feminine but substantial, it will support a full-night’s slumber and river dreams. It’s all for you in Ella. Enjoy this sunny, southerly exposure. This room is also wheelchair accessible.

Contact for Availability ContactHarmonius
Inspired by the original pumpkin pine flooring uncovered during renovation, Harmonius lives up to it’s name; the perfect blend of robust color and antique oak furniture that defines the Victorian Age. Harmonius is the name of Captain Visger’s son, who assumed the nickname of “Will”. Pity. Harmonius says so much more, and you’ll feel it in this stately room. It has a queen sized bed with quality mattress and all-cotton linens, a private bath, and affords a northerly view of the enchanting Boldt Castle Pump House on Heart Island.

4.6 out of 5Honeymoon Retreat
October 17, 2011
My husband and I stayed at the Captain Visger House in October of 2011 for our honeymoon. He had just started a new job and didn't have the vacation time for a long honeymoon. We couldn't have been happier to have found this little jewel. From the moment we checked in, we were made to feel welcome... I still in my wedding dress and my husband in his suit, we were ushered outside by the innkeeper Sam, so that she could take our picture! The Captain's Suite met and exceeded all of our expectations, but meeting Sam and experiencing her fantastic cooking made it a priceless experience for us. We will definitely be going back...
4.4 out of 5Captain Visger House, 4th of July
July 10, 2011
We stayed at the Captain Visger House over the 4th of July, 2011. We enjoyed it thoroughly, and would visit there again. The room was very nice, and the B & B was beautiful yet comfortable & well located. What made the visit was the warmth and kindness off the innkeeper "Sam". She was a lot of fun, and her breakfasts were outstanding - she's a self taught culinary artist. We would highly recommend the Captain Visger house.
4.4 out of 5Charming and amazing

We stayed in the Captain's Suite of this charming bed a breakfast, run by one of the kindest and warm-hearted people you will ever meet! Sam is a fabulous cook and the house is a beautifully remodelled Victorian jewel. My husband and I are definitely looking forward to another visit in the fall!
