Hillsdale House Inn

Charming town and wonderful huge house where the B&B is located. Good breakfast with great service. The next morning the owners were Even nice enough to pack us a breakfast because we had to check Out early.

It was a very rainy weekend in Annapolis Royal, but the atmosphere & service at the Hillsdale Inn was great. I would highly recommend this as a destination.

The thing about Hillsdale is that while the property is quite grand and formal-looking -- a huge Victorian house, surrounded by a vast lawn -- you can actually feel comfortable and at home. Breakfast was very nice each morning, and included in our rate, which made it a genuine bargain, too. Loved being walking distance (practically next door) to the Annapolis Royal gardens. The hosts were super-nice to our kids. Highly recommended.

One of Nova Scotia's treasures - Hillsdale House Inn is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast with caring friendly staff and outstanding accomodations. I look forward to my next visit to this Inn.

We wanted to go away for the weekend and we found about this bed and breakfast in the valley,it was just for one night,to get away from the city.We had a really nice stay,and the service was excellent,the breakfast was lovely,and the views were spectacular. The owners were really friendly,and very hospitable,they made it like it was your home.We will be going back,and recommend the Hillside Inn as your next stay.

Each room is beautifully appointed. Our room had twin beds and an area for sitting which was very comfortable. The bathroom was heavenly with a claw foot bathtub. And the breakfasts were so delicious! All in all our two nights at Hillsdale House Inn exceeded our expectations.

The Inn offered a very clean room, everything was as described on their website. The breakfast was prompt and well prepared. I would thouroughly recommnend this Inn.

An elegant and very comfortable Victorian inn. The staff is extremely friendly -- but not intrusive. The breakfast was one of the best! The inn is ideally located near to the historic gardens and to Fort Anne. A place to return to.

This is a beautiful place. The staff are wonderful and the breakfast is very good. However, this is one of the smaller rooms and very cramped. However, it is the cheapest room. My rating is of the mattress in this room. It was the worst mattress my husband and I stayed in during our weeklong trip to Canada and we stayed in more modest and cheaper places. The mattress was like a trampoline., very soft, squishy and you could feel every move each other made. We clung to the sides to keep from rolling into each other. I suggest it be replaced.

We are most disappointed to learn that these guests found the bed to be uncomfortable. When it comes to mattress comfort preferences very and we have in fact had other guests comment that they slept very comfortably in this room, some of whom are repeat guests who choose Room 9 specifically. With regard to the room size, the reservation was made through our online reservation system where we do indicate that it is a smaller room. It is also one of our two lowest priced rooms taking into account the size. The room does however offer all of the same amenities as other rooms in the Inn.

We are extremely happy with our stay at the Hillsdale House Inn. The room was beautiful, clean and wonderfully decorated. The breakfast selection was excellent, and we would have to say the best we've ever had at a bed and breakfast. We will definately stay here again in the future.

We would not hesitate to recommend the Hillsdale Inn, and we would stay here again. The hosts were very helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was incredible!

Wonderful time! Room was upgraded free of charge, food was delicious and our hosts were welcome, kind and extremely accommodating! I'd gladly go back!

Nice room, though small but had air conditioning. Lovely garden setting.

We loved this experience. The Inn was wonderfully cared for. The breakfast was exceptional. The furnishings throughout were thoughtful. Perfectly located within walking distance of all there is to see and do in the town. The challenge here is where to eat dinner? The Inn has a cross-promotion with Garrison House..but their food was seriously unsatisfactory and the service was beyond bizarre.

It is disappointing and surprising to learn that these guests did not enjoy their experience at the Garrison House which affected their rating of our property. Previous reviews on this restaurant from other guests have been quite positive.

Our whole stay was rain, so we were grateful to be staying in such a lovely inn. Our hosts were so helpful and we wouldn't hesitate to come back, especially to see Annapolis Royal in the sun and walk the gardens! Sarah and William Lacroix

I stayed at the Inn for an over night "stop over" due to my time restrictions. I wish I had taken the time to relax and enjoy all that this excellent Inn and the Annapolis Royal area had to offer. I plan to be back.

It should be noted that we only provide breakfast service in our Dining Room and we do not operate a restaurant for other meal service. There are however several very good restaurants within walking distance of the Inn.

We picked this place from the NS tourist guide and (because it was late in the day) we got the last room (in the attic and hence the 'met my expectations' for the room). But what a great choice of B&B this was! Attentive hosts in a lovely house in a lovely town. We strongly recommend it.

I was one of a Theater group(G&S) performing in Annapolis Royal. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time at the Inn but next yr will book for a longer stay. Was a fabulous Inn and the breakfast was heavenly! Slept like a baby in that wonderful queen size bed. And the staff were welcoming and accomadating. Made u feel like u were coming home but in much grander surroundings. Have recommended it to others in our theater group for next yr and some friends who are travelling that way. Enjoyed thouroughly.

hillsdale house was a gem. a beautiful home run by gracious and friendly hosts. the setting of the house is very special with sprawling lawns and multiple gardens. the breakfasts were outstanding with fresh baked goods amongst the treats. would go back in an instant.

we decided to stay at the Hillsdale House and were extremely impressed with the hospitaltiy. Paul and Val are wonderful hosts and would recommend all people to stay here when the opportunity presents its self :)

Hillsdale House Inn is a charming place, bringing you back in time to the 1800's. The service was friendly, the breakfast was excellent in the most beautiful dining room. The property was huge, with nice outdoor seating if you wanted to. It was located on the main street, so easy walking to many places. The bathroom was huge and the room a good size. My only negative comment is the bed was too hard. I wouldn't think anything of it except someone else said the same thing in the morning. I would go back there if I had the chance.

Roomy, beautiful and comfortable room, gracious hosts, excellent breakfast and perfect location on quiet street within walking distance of town. You can't do better in Annapolis Royal or anywhere in NS in our experience.

Beautiful home, wonderful hosts, good food, comfortable rooms! The midnight graveyard storytelling tour down the street from here was awesome! The guide for this adventure was superb, the cost was $7 which goes to the historical preservation fund. The stories, history, and adventure were worth the wind and the cold (October and stormy!).

A very beautiful house with wonderful rooms. The owners were very helpful and nice. Even packed a breakfast for us as we had to be at the boat to Saint John at 8 am.

We had a wonderful couple of days in Annapolis Royal and the folks at Hillsdale House were terrific. Loved the Grand Pre heritage site and had a mouth watering lunch at the winery. The inn was charming and comfortable and we would highly recommend it to anyone!

Staff were very helpful. We had computer problems so we needed to use the Inn's computer and they even printed off a hiking trail map for us. Breakfast was outstanding, the eggs perfectly cooked.

Host made us feel at home at once. Great room, faboulous breakfast in elegant surroundings. Will return.

Paul and Val are both friendly and helpful. Having a notebook available full of local restaurants and their menus is a stroke of genius. Breakfast is outstanding with tables close enough to converse with other visitors and exchange travel experiences.

My husband and I stayed at the Hillsdale House Inn for one night in September, 2010. Paul and Val were extremely welcoming and attentive to our needs. Without us even needing to ask, Paul informed us of the town's best restaurants and informed us of events and attractions that we might be interested in. As the Inn was not busy on the night we stayed there, Paul even upgraded us to a larger room (again, without us asking). The Hillsdale House is a beautiful inn, and the owners' attention to detail and customer service is excellent. Highly recommended.

We so enjoyed our one night stay we returned a week later going out of our way on our tour of Nova Scotia. The decor and period furnishing were world class, the bedrooms roomy and quiet, and the breakfasts first rate. Also, its location convenient to the town with its historic fort and other attractions.

A great location for a visit to Annapolis Royal; convenient to restaurants and Fort Anne and we really appreciated the recommendation to take the VERY INFORMATIVE candlelight graveyard tour given by Alan Melanson. This B&B can accommodate 3 persons in some of their rooms.

Spent 2 nights in August at this wonderful Inn. The delicious breakfasts, wonderful hosts Val & Paul and beautiful rooms made our stay at Hillsdale House the best of our 12 day vacation in Nova Scotia.

This house is lovely, the grounds beautiful, rooms are comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. There was a choice of breakfast and the food delicious.

We scheduled a one night stay to fit our vacation itinerary, with minimal expectations. The Inn proved to be lovely. The hosts/staff were so gracious. Their recommendations of where to visit and eat were perfect. Breakfast was sumptuous, with excellent coffee! We shared a large table with 2 other couples, which made it very enjoyable. We had the smallest/cheapest room, which proved to be very adequate. We would have enjoyed another night here!
