We stayed in the Heregracht apartment/gallery. It was a delight, with an ambiance which matched the spirit of Amsterdam in full. When we first arrived, we were a bit wary, as we were told that we would not be staying at the Prinsenstraat 4 (which is logical, as it is an antique shop), but at Herengracht, 3-4 minutes away. Paul and Sean's assistant was slightly ill (also, we were late arriving) and asked us to find the apartment ourselves. It is a tribute to the openness of the city and the Dutch people that this situation was one where trust prevailed. I would heartily recommend Truelove!

We choose the room because of the pictures in the web-site and were let to believe that we would stay in the main guesthouse. Not so! When we arrived, we were given a room in another street, which had a bed, a hall stand instead of a wardrobe, an insert with a "kitchen" with a micro oven and a toilet and shower, which was closed with a door normally used in a shower. The door had an opening of about 40 cm above the door, with the result that it was very unpleasant to be in the room, when one of us used the toilet. Besides that there was a simple table with two folding chairs, an armchair and a window bench, a small fridge and a small tv without a remote. There was nothing to decorate the room to make it nice to stay in. There were two coffee filters and a little coffee, when we arrived and we had to buy coffee ourselves and only got more filters, when we asked for them. I am not sure if the room was cleaned in the 9 nights we stayed, at least the waste bin was no emptied. We never meet the innkeepers, only two very nice and helpful employes. Needless to say, that we paid full price for this. All this was very disappointing and for these reasons we cannot recommend the rooms to others.
Innkeeper Response
Dear Mette thanks for taking the time to make a review which will help us to improve our business continuously I am sorry to hear that you did not like the room. We thought with staying for a longer period we would allocate a room to you with canal view and more space having a seperate sleeping and sitting area rather than just a bedroom. We purposely have not decorated the room too much with pictures and painting as that would detract from the 16th century ceiling beams. With regards to cleaning. we do go in every 3 days on a longer stay and tidy up but we do not refresh the sheets on a daily basis. Sorry that we did not hear that you did not like the room during your stay as we could have moved you to a different location. Once again thanks for taking the time to make the review and we will handle a longer stay in this particular room in a different way. Best regards paul

Beautiful place. Guesthouse host was very cool and attentive to my needs. Great location to where the locals hang out nearby. Close to the railway station and easy to find in 15 min walk. This is the place to stay if you are looking for authentic places. Wish I could have stayed longer.

beautiful place. nelson the guesthouse host is very cool and attentive. its in the best location where the locals hang out in the many cafes nearby. this is the place to stay if you are not into tourity hotel places. great cafes all around and walking distance from everywhere you want to go. we had the best time and felt very much part of the city. we will definetely return. we stayed in the suite which had a dining room/living room space and a second floor loft bedroom. we had our own bathroom on the second floor. they were very acomodating about us leaving our luggage on the last day and picking it up later. when my wallet was stolen the host was incredibly helpful and understanding so that it didnt ruin our stay. we ate dinner across the street where they serve until late. breakfast at the pancake house around the corner is a must even if you have to wait in line since its the hot spot. we walked to the centrum in 15min and got a boat ride in a 5min walk. we rented bikes just blocks away which is also a must. i recommend this place highly!
