Auberge Walker Inn

  • Inn Details

The Inn itself was built originally in the 1870’s by James A. Stalker to house a general store on the ground floor, with living space on the subsequent three floors for both the family and the servants. At that time he also had a bank and a crockery kiln in the building. Two years later, he built the Scotia Bank beside the Inn. Since then, this building has housed the town library, an MLA office, an insurance office, and apartments. And common to buildings of this age, there is no elevator!

Arrived here because of referral and was delighted with the accomodations. The main floor is up a flight of stairs and our room was up another flight which is the only down side -- carryng luggage can be a chore. However, it was worth it. The room was comfortable and exceptionally clean. Even though it is an old building, it has been updated and has modern conveniences. The bath just had a shower, but that is what we use anyway. Heat was soft and warm from a radiator. Breakfast was in a wonderfully decorated dining room. Only stayed one night but owner was pleasant, friendly and helpful in getting us to the PEI ferry the next morning. Would like to stay again longer and explore area. Great value!
