Located at the corner of Prince and Broad Streets, in Truro’s West End, lies one of the town’s finest homes. This five-bedroom home was originally built in 1903 by Dr. E. Ambrose Randall on what was then known as Belgravia Avenue. In the century since, it has been the home of four of Truro’s prominent families, and is now the home of D’Arcy & Anne (Clark) McDonah and their family. The majestic home is located on a large private, treed lot. It has a European flavor, accented with its decorative moldings and leaded glass windows. When you enter the home through the front door, you are greeted in a grand entryway with dark, beamed ceilings and a beautifully carved, gracefully curving staircase to the second floor. To the right of the entryway, through French doors is the living room. This room boasts an ornate fireplace as the focal point. Decorated in a cheerful wallpaper of white with pink & blue flowers, this is a common area for guests to gather and mingle, or watch cable television and a variety of movies available. Situated on the Bay of Fundy, Cresthaven provides one of the finest examples of Maitland's elegant historical homes that has brought the village to the forefront and made it Nova Scotia's first Heritage Conservation District. Constructed for the most part by the master carpenters of the local ship building industry, the homes of Maitland provide a extraordinary exhibition of unique 19th century architecture. Cresthaven was built in the Classical Revival Style for Captain John Macomber in 1865. The roof eaves are enhanced with dense bracketry and dentils, and the corners of the house are tastefully framed with wide, finely moulded pilasters.
