We had a wonderful time at The Mast Farm Inn. The room was lovely, both cozy and comfortable. The food was fabulous and the location was perfect. We were able to visit Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock as well as spend time in Valle Crucis. I really do hope to return when the heat is too hot here in GA! I can only imagine how gorgeous The Mast Farm Inn is when the leaves change colors in the fall. This has been one of my most favorite Bed and Breakfast!

Spent a fall weekend here (we spent last time in the spring). The people are wonderful and the leaves added to it. Chef actually went out of his way to serve gluten-free meals (my wife also has lots of food allergies). Just an awesome place - Danielle is amazing!

This is our favorite place for a weekend escape. The staff becomes more like family with each visit. The breakfast alone is worth the trip. We are never ready to leave and we always wish we had booked one more night.

My wife and I spent our 24th Anniversary in the Woodworkers Cottage. Very private and quiet cottage with a small living room and kitchenette. We watched two old movies that we have wanted to see. My wife loved a hot bubble bath in the old tub. The bed was very comfortable and cozy. We remember the food being very good from our trip here 5 years ago but we did not remember it being this good. It was absolutely delicious. We are planning on coming back next year.

We just eloped at the Mast Farm Inn and had an amazing time. We were completely charmed by the historic home and romantic Gazebo cottage where we stayed. The electric fireplace made the room so cozy! The inn took care of everything for our ceremony - all we had to do was make a few choices about cake flavors and menus! The photographer (amazing!), music, flowers, officiant, witnesses, and the rest were all taken care of. And the food - some of the best we have ever eaten!

Mast farm Inn exceeded all our expectations...simply charming, romantic and the food was A+ locally grown and cooked to perfection! Service was outstanding, staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Loved the touch of coffee being served in the morning in a picnic basket. European flair...thank you for a wonderful, romantic, delicious evening:-)

The Inn is lovely and the staff is fabulous - especially Rebecca and Danielle, the Innkeeper. PROS: Rooms are very comfortable and thoughtfully decorated - antiques, pretty fabrics, etc.. Ours was quite large, bright and sunny with a nice sitting area. Staff goes out of their way to accommodate your needs, provide helpful information about the area, etc. Restaurant is absolutely fabulous with gourmet dinners and bountiful breakfasts. Property is very nice -Historic home & rustic cottages on one side of the road; along with newer cottages up a hill.. Beautiful gardens , barn and farm across the road; CONS: Inn sits right on the road and traffic varied from none to alot, As Inn is an historic building,, it can be noisy - road noise and other guests. Cottages offer more quiet and more privacy

We had a fabulous time! I'd heard so much about the Mast Farm Inn from numerous friends who have stayed there that I had to stay there when I discovered that my travels were taking me to North Carolina. I love historic old buildings, so it was a thrill getting to stay in one of the rooms in the Inn. I didn't get a chance to look into the cottages and other outbuildings, but they looked wonderful, too. I loved the antiques in my room. The bed was very comfotable and they had a lot of very nice touches when we arrived. Because this is an old building, the walls aren't well insulated and the floors sometimes "creak." There is no elevator, so if you're on the 3rd floor, you'll have to climg the stairs with your luggage. There is no TV, which was fine with me! They also have a wifi in the Inn; not sure if it reaches to the cottages or not, though. It's a pretty slow connection. Cell phone coverage (I have AT&T) was very poor ("No Service" or one bar). But this is why you come here, right? To relax, explore and get away from all the technology. Each room is different, which is fun! My room faced the street, but it didn't matter to me; the view across to the barn was beautiful. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and also very professional. I really appreciated their following up before my trip and afterwards. We took a lovely walk past the barn to the stream. The whole setting was very bucolic. The chef was outstanding, too. We had a wonderful dinner .... the appetizers looked so good that instead of a main entree, I ordered several appetizers. I loved the way he did a fusion of Southern cooking with a comtemporary flair, using locally sourced food. We had a wonderful time exploring the surrounding area. Blowing Rock was a cute town, but do not go to the Blowing Rock lookout. They charge you $6 to get in to see the rock and it's not a big deal.

Spent three days and nights in the Blacksmith's cottage. This was a spur-of-the-moment trip and exceeded our expectations for the comfort, relaxation, and the generous and varied breakfasts and a fine dining dinner. Staff are attentive and smiling and helpful. Even Oby (the Inn cat) was tolerant of our ear-scratching. We will come again.

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing brunch and Sunday night stay with Mast Farm Inn. The property is amazing, the farmhouse is beautiful, and the staff are kind and courteous. We had the pleasure of rooming in the Gazebo Cottage. The cabin exceeded our wildest expectations in comfort and beauty!!! The porch with the swing and rockers is where we spent the majority of our time. We also appreciated the classic movies provided as we did not leave the cabin once we checked in. We really enjoyed unwinding with How Green Was My Valley and Jezebel, something we rarely have time for in the real world. The brunch and the breakfast provided were so delicious! Honestly, I would recommend Mast Farm Inn wholeheartedly for an all-around great experience. We left there fully rested, relaxed, restored, and rejuvenated! Can't wait to go back for another beyond amazing experience!!!

We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Mast Farm Inn. We started with Sunday brunch. Fresh eggs, ginger & sage sausage, pork belly and onion croissant, smoked gouda grits and a light and flaky Pepper Jack cheesy biscuit. My wife had raisin pecan pain perdue with sorghum pecan syrup. Mostly local farm grown or produced. After brunch, I surprised Linda having surreptitiously brought her wedding dress along. The rooms was bright and cozy with a big comfy bed. All very nicely appointed for a restored country inn. Rustic, quiet, relaxing with cheerful, welcoming staff. If you are looking to escape, this is the place!

My husband and I stayed in the Gazebo cabin for our anniversary weekend. This was our third time at the Mast Farm Inn. We both love the serenity this place offers…it is such a peaceful place with beautiful gardens, smells and sounds (mainly birds and rustling sound of trees). We hung out on the balcony sipping wine and taking in the nature around us. The staff is awesome…super friendly, helpful and respectful of your wishes! Danielle, is always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate your requests. The food is excellent…they strive to serve fresh, locally grown foods and it is delicious!!! To me, The Mast Farm is a place to recharge your body and mind. I highly recommend it!!! :)¿

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Mast Farm Inn. We spent the entire week in the Woodwork Shop. The room is very nice, private and right next to the creek so you can listen to running water at night. I gave the room a 3 because it was what I expected for the price. Same is true for my marking for Value. This is not an inexpensive place to stay; we received great service, and the Inn staff and accomodations are exceptional. I expect that for the cost. Danielle, the Innkeeper is extremely friendly and makes you feel at home. We went caving and our clothes were covered in mud. We washed them in the creek next to our room and hung them on nails on the porch. It was quite the site. Danielle loved it. Lorraine made our reservations and served as the conceirge (sp). She did an exceptional job of setting up our caving and rafting trip, horseback riding, ziplining, and everything else we asked her to do. Rebecca works the desk and is an absolute delight. Chef Andrew is amazing, as is Danielle when it comes to food at the Inn. The breakfasts are delicious and filling. We had Sunday brunch, evening room service and two dinners at the Inn on top of breakfast each morning. The food is excellent and you will leave stuffed to the gills. We enjoyed that there is no TV, only old classic videos to watch. We spent the week enjoying the tranquil quiet of the Inn. The staff emphasizes simplicity and that is exactly what you get. As you can see from above, there are a ton of activities in the area including trout fishing. If you are looking for a fantastic, quite, stress free experience, this is the place.

Perfect place to disconnect electronically and just enjoy each other's company, Located in a very quiet area yet very close to the local activities and attractions. Our place was a lovely, rustic cabin yet it had nice amenities including a jetted tub, fireplace, comfy bedding and a creek right outside our cabin! We loved the front porch with rocking chairs and feeling included in the Farm while still having our own little place. We can't wait to visit again!

Let me say it again; WOOOOWA!!!! Extraordinary place. Words don't even begin to explain or describe how GREAT this place is. The location, up in the mountains is mind blowing. The space within the main house is really your own space. It gives you the feeling that your the only person on the premises and the staff go above and beyond to make it very personable. My fiancé and I arrived at 11 o'clock at night and we were greeted with a note and a key to main house so we could get to our room. Before we could even sleep we read all the little notes on the bed, notes on the dresser. It was such a delight, it made our rest that night even more comfortable. The next morning we toured the grounds. The air was so fresh and the skies were so clear. It was just beautiful. We went to have breakfast and since my fiancé and I are vegan the chef cook something special for us. It was so delicious and i was able to get some of the leftovers that were in the kitchen. Also had a really nice breakfast conversation with some other guest and they were just as helpful in giving us tons of ideas of place to go and things to do. Everyone was great! This place will not disappoint. This is now apart of our extended family. We will be creating a lot more memories at this place. Asante and Jasmine Yugen

A delightful bucolic setting for a relaxing getaway. Everyone in our party vowed to make a return visit before this year is over.
5 on May 13, 2013
My husband and I were married at The Mast Farm Inn last Monday; we then spent an additional three days there for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived everyone felt like family; we felt right at home. The food was delightful. We especially enjoyed the daily breakfast. The vanilla wedding cake with cream cheese frosting was the best we ever tasted, and the drunken fruit poundcake was TRULY addictive! (In fact, we are thinking of ordering several for Christmas gifts this year!) The master bed in the Granary Cabin was the most comfortable we ever slept in. The in-room old timey radio programs were a wonderful touch; we had great fun listening to the radio in front of the fireplace with a bottle of wine. Rebecca, one of the staff, was wonderfully calm during a power outage Sunday night (the mountains suffered unseasonably heavy rains all week; an auto accident nearby caused a two-hour power outage all along Broadstone Rd). Rebecca, however, made everyone in the main house feel safe, calm, and entertained until the lights came back on. We loved the personalized menus at breakfast every morning, and the in-room notes every afternoon; it was such a unique touch. Most of all we loved the services of Danielle, who is one of the innkeepers, as well as being our wedding planner. We told her we wanted a simple, old-fashioned, stress free wedding, and that is indeed what she delivered. (Emphasis on the "stress-free": it was heavenly!) Danielle truly gave us the wedding of our dreams. Highly recommended; in fact, we are planning to go back next year for our 1-year anniversary!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here nearly 17 years ago and have returned several times for memorable visits. This most recent visit was a “just because” weekend. We treasure our mountain getaways and stay in a cozy room in the farmhouse. Be aware they use feather pillows so let them know if you are allergic as they are very responsive to requests. We thought the rate was a little high at first, but it ended up that the friendly staff, the personalized touches, the yummy Sunday breakfast of layered French toast, and the beautiful surroundings, was well worth the cost. We have visited other B&Bs but The Mast Farm Inn keeps calling us back.

After a long day's travel from California, we arrived at the Mast Farm Inn to find our cabin ready with a warm fire awaiting us along with cupcakes and a warm welcome by the staff. The beds were so comfortable and ample with comforters and wonderful linens. The meals in the main house were also some of the best we have had in a cozy setting reminiscent of times past when mouthwatering, home cooked food was the best to be had. If we had any need, the staff was ready and eager to fill that. Two thumbs up for the Mast Farm Inn!

We will definitely stay with them again very soon! Wendy and Christine

We stayed in the Granary. What a lovely experience! Then there was sitting in the parlor sipping a shot of Junior Johnson's moonshine (legal) while waiting to be seated at a magnificent Valentine's dinner. Breakfast had the fluffiest pancakes I have ever eaten. We shall return!

We recently completed a five night stay with our three kids, and stayed in the Granery. Plenty of space and the maid service was excellent (kids make such a mess). The kids really enjoyed the animals and the staff was more than happy to show the kids around the farm and help them feed the animals. The only downside I can mention is that it didn't snow, but I guess that the staff can't control that. Good job guys!!!!

We stayed in the charming Loom House,an original cabin. It was a trifle dark inside because of course nobody puts big windows in 19th century log cabins. I'd up the wattage in the lights if possible. But very very pretty & comfortable. The food was excellent but the multiple course meals were actually too much food. We started asking for various items to be skipped, which worked better for us. Very nice helpful staff! I'd certainly book in again.
5 on October 31, 2012
This was by far the best Bed and Breakfast my husband and I have ever been to. From the minute we walked in, we were treated with homey familiarity on every level from every staff person. The food was 5 star good - we are still talking about it! The room was perfect right down to the home made cookies waiting for us - along with fresh spring water in a classy carafe. We are already planning our next visit....

The ambiance of a heritage Inn from the 1800's cannot be explained ... it must be experienced. Everyone at the Mast Farm Inn was family and the dinner and breakfast at Simplicity was to die for. I cannot say enough about the wonderful time we had at the Mast. I sure didn't hurt to have great weather along with it ;-)

This was the third time we've stayed at The Mast Farm Inn and have enjoyed it each time. The staff, grounds, rooms, and especially the breakfasts have always been exceptional. We had dinner there twice this time and the food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. I would highly recommend The Mast Farm Inn to anyone wishing to have excellent accommodations, food, and atmosphere during the fall foliage season -- or anytime.

What a wondeful time we had at the Inn! We did not have a room in the Inn, but reserved the Loom House which was so charming in its rustic simplicity but super comfort. Wood burning fireplace, sweet muslin tab-top curtains at the windows, historic little cabin with its wealth of history were just what we wanted. The little house was awesome, but the staff was even better. Daily little notes of encouragement on our pillows were delightful, and each breakfast menu was individually printed with our names and an amusing description of each course. (Yes, a two-course breakfast every morning in a dining room that made us smile every time we walked in) Attention to every detail exceeded any expectation. The staff always went out of their way to see to our comfort, so friendly and great to talk with. Even the chef (who had amazing talent in creating memorable evening meals as well as the not-to-be missed breakfasts) came out to discuss fly-fishing spots with my husband! Love this comfortable, delightful inn.....we will be back!

The Mast Farm Inn is well worth winding your way through the North Carolina backroads to get there. The Inn is charming and historic as are the surrounding cottages. You feel like you've stepped back in time where things move more slowly and you can luxuriate in the comforts and amenities from an earlier era. We stayed in the Blacksmith cottage where we found a large comfy bed, a gas-fired pot-bellied stove, and a loft with a love seat and a large red bathtub in addition to the modern shower facilities below. It was the perfect place to wind down after driving some 400 miles. The breakfast we had the next morning was exceptional. My husband and I would definitely go back.

We recently spent one lovely rainy night at the inn. We were upgraded to a wonderful cabin full of gracious amenities that made the night a cozy, comfortable one. All the staff were helpful and generous with their time and guided us to excellent restaurants and activities.

My husband and I took advantage of a discounted senior gift certificate to book a room here as we made our way up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our room was on the 2nd floor of the main building and was very comfortable, king bed, sitting area, plenty of space. Charmingly decorated. No TV or phone. There were not very many occupied rooms and we were offered an upgrade to a cabin, which we decided not to take because it was raining heavily and the cabin was some distance from the parking area. The staff checked us in, but were not in the building after about 6pm, which was not a problem. Unfortunately, the dining room was closed (Monday) so we did not have a chance to eat here. We had a nice meal in Blowing Rock and later drove through Boone and back to the Inn. Be forewarned that some of the approach roads to this locale are steep and twisty. I'm sure they can be avoided, but our GPS was probably set on "shortest time". We enjoyed our stay and will stay there again when in the area, but probably only on nights when the restaurant is open. Breakfast was very pleasant. Our menus were personalized, as were welcome messages in our room. All in all an experience worth repeating.

We have enjoyed staying at B&Bs listed in Select Registry. This was our first time at The Mast Farm Inn. It was a beautiful time of the year to visit. We were surprised however with a farm in the name that the breakfast was not your typical country farm breakfast. The portions were small.

We loved the house, the wonderful garden and all the beauty as far as we could see. Breakfast was unique and delicious. We would recommend the Joe Mast Room, as it was plenty big for three people and very comfortable. We slept like babies and felt very nurtured by all the staff and the special gifts like the coffee basket at our door in the morning. We will stay at The Mast Farm Inn again, hopefully in a cabin with family from out of state. Thank you!

We recently spent two nights at Mast Farm Inn. We were given an upgrade to the Loom House, a charming restored cabin that was the original farmhouse built in 1810. It was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed great views from the rockers on the front porch where we had our morning coffee and late afternoon wine. The breakfasts were superb and our dinner was was of the best meals we've had at any restaurant. We loved our whole experience at Mast Farm Inn and would recommend it to anyone.

The Mast Farm Inn is first class in all areas. What we liked best was the personal and kind touch of class which permeated throughout our stay. I honestly thought I was part of the innkeeper's family! I know they meant that to be, but that is hard to do! This is our eight stay here at the Mast Farm Inn which to me remains one of the best B&B accommodations we have ever experienced. And after serving in the Army for over 28 years, I have traveled all over the place. This B&B exceeds all standards and I would unhesitatingly refer this superb B&B to those travelers out there who want a comfortable stay with these superb innkeepers who truly mean to make their guests feel right at home but at the same time allow the proper space needed by many. They have done it right. This B&B has captured the essence of what a superb B&B should be. The innkeeper's sincerity, friendship, consideration and refreshing kindness is very well appreciated, especially as they went made our special anniversary stay a truly well remembered one. In sum, while there is much to do in the Boone, NC such as hiking, biking, rafting, eating, and relaxing the message here is that there is a very special B&B waiting the weary or perhaps curious traveler with the very best accommodations that innkeepers in other locations would dream for.

I was so excited that the third floor room was cool at night and air conditioned well. The bathroom was beautiful and we hardly heard any other guests, even though they were right around us. The chimney had a bird fluttering around in it on our arrival day-Aunt Leona's room. I was concerned it would rattle all night. We were thankful it did not. On the grounds-we walked back toward the pond and smelled a dead animal smell so strong, we couldn't stay out there-and we are pretty tough outdoors people. When we walked down to the new memorial, we were amazed to see a huge deer dead on the right side of the gravel road. We reported the large dead deer-but not the other smell by the pond. The gazebo up behind the building looked to be under construction and had broken items around it. Maybe we just stumbled upon a construction area. The staff of the Inn and the restaurant folks were so friendly and genuinely interested in us....it was wonderful. The food was outstanding and the wine choice was right on for our filet mignon. We had a wonderful stay and hope the Inn thrives for many years to come!

We had a lovely visit to the Mast Farm Inn last weekend. The Inn is beautiful and the setting is serene. The staff was helpful and courteous. We stayed in the Cousin Sarah room and my only complaint is that the outdoor rug they had under the bed was hard to walk on. We have tender feet and the rug is made for outdoors and was painful to walk on.

I have stayed at several North Carolina cabins, including both Frog Hollow and Pilot Knob, so know what to expect from the cabin environment (in other words, that it isn't a five star hotel sort of accommodation). I was excited to go to Mast Farm Inn because of its restaurant, and thought staying on its property would complete the experience. I deliberately chose the "Woodworker" cabin because my husband loves wood working. The restaurant was indeed wonderful (although don't do the wine and roses package - the roses were at best a $10 half-cut bundle from Harris Teeter), but the cabin was far under my expectations, even for "rustic." The grounds are forced - the cabins are barely separated from each other, looking more like a shanty town than a countryside. There was really nothing "woodworker" about our cabin other than a sign and a few tools. The bathroom door had at least a 1/4 inch gap between its boards, making privacy virtually non-existent. The feel of the cabin was cramped and dirty, again, even for "rustic." The cabin was reasonably stocked with dishes, glasses, etc. - nothing spectacular. The bed linens were torn. My total bill, for two nights' stay and for the "wine and roses" dinner package (our actual dinner was paid separately) was over a whopping $1000. Absolutely not worth it, especially since the cabins I mention above run a good $150-250 less per night. I would have been ok had the two nights equaled closer to $400-500 - but I left feeling cheated and angry because of the sub-par experience.

The Inn and the staff were fantastic! And the food was just wonderful ... the best oatmeal ever! We stayed in Nell's room and loved the decor and the sitting area. We look forward to returning.

My husband and I spent the weekend in the Blacksmith Shop to celebrate his 40th birthday. Everything was perfect... From the chocolate covered strawberries in our room upon arrival to the picnic lunch to our wine and roses dinner. Very friendly, attentive staff and the food was absolutely amazing. I hope we can return again soon!

We stayed here a few years ago and fell in love with it. This was a surprise trip for me, and I had no idea we were going until we left Raleigh, and as soon as I heard we were going to Valle Crucis, I knew where we were staying and was so excited. To make things more exciting, we got engaged on this trip. We will be back and now it will be even a more special place for us!

Since this was a new inn for us to visit, we were full of trepidation. From the the inviting wrap around porch to comfortable rooms , from the friendly and helpful staff to the scrumptious breakfasts and dinners, our only complaint, if one could call it that, was that the breakfasts were too large for average stomachs. We shall be back.

We have been coming to Mast Inn since 2007 And always stay at the Loom House Which is wonderful. Wasn't. Sure about bfast though. The server dropped off a tiny slice of terrible quiche And disappeared never to be seen again She never said that this was the meal So we took a bite and left Pretty disappointing after spending 379 on room not sure if we will back

We have stayed at several B&B's in this general area of the country and this is one I'd return to. The place itself is beautiful and well kept. The staff is friendly and low-key. They upgraded our room at no additional charge because they had the room during our stay. The breakfast was wonderful and more than I could eat. We'll be back. Plan to spend most of your recreation and eating time in Boone. I'll schedule a fly fishing trip next time I go.

Mast Farm inn is a charming, well-managed and well maintained historic inn near Boone, NC. The staff is highly adept at making customers feel comfortable and well taken care of for meals, suggestions for interesting outings to nearby attractions, and historic information. the inn is a fine addition to the exquisite beauty of the Valle Crucis.

This was to be a two night stay, but we couldn't bear to leave, so stayed a third. The location in this beautiful little valley, and the hospitality of the innkeepers was perfection.

Stayed here for the second time on a trip to visit my son at nearby Lee's McRae College. Previously I had stayed in the main house -- lovely -- however the room I'd had before was already taken so I was given the outside Blacksmith's Cabin (think that's the name) and it was just so quaint and beyond expectations with full bath, sitting area, coffee pot, fabulous linens---a precious log cabin - I felt like I was away from this busy world but steps away from the main house where the luscious breakfast is served. The "welcoming committee" was so warm and full of historical knowledge about the Inn. I felt as if I had been on vacation for a week instead of one night. Very upscale yet quaint.

We had the best stay at the farm. We have two young boys and the cabin on the hill, Uncle Earl, was perfect for us. Breakfast was amazing and filling! Service was outstanding and attention to detail was beyond! Can't think of one thing that didn't exceed our expectations. We would stay there again and again!!!!!!! Love from Tennessee

Amazing second time at the Mast Farm Inn! We stayed in one of the cottages and loved the feeling of being secluded while having the convenience of the restaurant seconds away. The food is soooo good by the way- don't miss dinner there! The staff at the Inn were all so nice and helpful and we felt so relaxed for our weekend away!

The Mast Farm Inn is well worth the money spent on it. My wife and I were greeted upon arrival, showed to our rooms, and welcomed when we came back downstairs with a glass of sparkling wine. Meals require that you trust the chef, as both breakfast and dinner were single option, prix fixe menus (although the cost of the breakfast is included with lodging). This wasn't a problem for me. To me, the sign of a really great restaurant is when I end up enjoying things that at most restaurants I wouldn't touch (mushrooms come to mind here!). Truly outstanding experience. Looking forward to returning soon.

Our stay at the Mast Farm Inn was fantastic. We highly recommend this B&B. You will not be disappointed. Our room was large, private, and very comfortable. The inn was quiet and peaceful. There are loads of activities in the area both indoors and outdoors. You can't go wrong choosing this inn.

The interactions with the staff are fun setting up the reservation and in person they are warm and welcoming. The atmosphere is charming and the setting lovely. Lots of interesting things around the area too. We were able to dine in the evening and were still almost too full to need breakfast! The meals were outstanding in presentation and taste, with special needs accomodated. There was so much food that neither of us could comfortably finish it, but it felt like a crime to waste it when we couldn't eat anymore! We are in Boone twice a year and plan to keep returning to the Mast Farm Inn. Kathi & Steve

I stayed at the Mast Farm Inn with a friend the night before my wedding being held there. The cabin was perfect, and very cozy! Love the attention to detail throughout the entire stay. Breakfast was incredible, and the wedding dinner was the best meal I could have hoped for. The staff was very helpful and friendly! Danielle (chef/innkeeper/wedding planner) was very helpful and helped make my wedding day stress free and perfect! I look forward to visiting again!! Highly recommend the Mast Farm Inn!! Beautiful property!!

We stayed at Mast Farm Inn for three nights for our honeymoon. For us it was the perfect place to relax. The service was fabulous, the cabin was an amazing experience, and the food was beyond compare. The surrounding area in Watauga Countu is beautiful and only added to the sense of peace and relaxation we enjoyed at the Farm. We will be most definately return again and again. Marti E.

We had a wonderful time at the B&B. Neither of us have ever stayed in a B&B while traveling so we didn't really know what to expect but we were both blown away by our experience this past weekend. From the very moment we stepped foot on the property it felt like a dream. My favorite part of the whole experience was waking up to a basket of coffee sitting outside our door. I also loved being able to sit in a cozy robe and sip coffee by the gas fireplace. (We stayed in the Cherry Room) The super soft bed and linens made crawling in to bed very welcoming each night. My only complaint was that the pillows were so soft I had to use some of the decorative pillows to help with head support. I learned my lesson to always bring my own pillow. Otherwise, we had a wonderful weekend and I would tell all of my friends to stay here if they are in the area!

This was our first visit to Valle Crucis, N.C. Not only was the area beautiful and convenient to several tourist spots, but our stay at The Mast Farm Inn was truly superb and delightful ! Overall, the ambiance and amenities of the property far surpassed our expections. We stayed in one of their newly built cabins (Mama's Refuge) and it was quite relaxing, comfortable, and was like being 'at home'. It did not have a TV, however, being without it was a nice change. The cabin boasts beautiful interiors and it also has a nice, cozy fireplace which we did use as the evenings were chilly. The breakfasts were delicious and certainly lived up to their 'gourmet' status. The staff was very hospitable and they definitely take great pride in their B&B by making sure their guests are comfortable and every finishing touch is in place. We will definitely be returning to this fine establishment for more R & R.

My wife and I have stayed at the Mast Farm in 4 or 5 times. We stayed in one of the new cabins which are beautiful. Probably meant for a family or group of friends since they sleep 2 downstairs and 4 upstairs in the loft but we wanted to check them out. As always, the breakfast was amazing and this time of year is so peaceful and beautiful at Mast Farm.

Stayed 2 nites in Oct in the Gazebo Cottage. The cottage was roomy and well decorated, with an incredibly comfortable bed. Breakfast was outstanding and very filling--we didn't eat again til dinner those nites. Only minor concerns--very little water pressure in shower, no bulb in bathroom nightlight, only 1 robe (not a problem because we didn't use the hottub after all). A little pricey, but overall a great stay.

we stayed at the Mast Farm Inn in Oct 2011. It was our first visit here. Very nice overall experience, a bit pricey IMHO. Our cabin was on the road and there was a lot of road traffic (during the week) so it was not as quiet as I had expected it to be. We did not dine at the inn but the breakfast was superb.

We stayed the weekend of October 7. 2011. When we arrived, we were greeted very warmly by the desk attendant who was very detailed in courteous and seemed like she enjoyed her job! When we arrived in our room, which was Aunt Leona's..which is on the top floor dormer we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it really was. Music was playing, fresh flowers were in a vase, homemade cookies in a dish and a note of welcome! We were told that we could sit outside to enjoy some acoustic guitar music and have champagne before dinner. We made reservations for dinner prior to coming. We are so glad we did! We enjoyed it immensely, although it was tough to stay on our diet! The roasted pepper and tomatoe bisque was to die for, the salad was fresh, and the entree was delectable..consisting of beef tenderloin, augratin vegetables and creamy herbed grits..the homemade bread and cornbread with fresh herbed butter wasn't too bad either! After dinner, we just walked around and enjoyed the grounds and the little village of Valle Crucis. The weather was incredible so that helped so much enjoy the atmosphere. At bedtime, the queen size bed was very comfortable and to say that the sheets were wonderful was an understatement..I love good sheets and these were the best..they even smelled fresh! The clawfoot tub was fun too! We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast which consisted of homemade yogurt parfait with fresh blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries topped with homemade granola..squash quiche and creamy grits..sooo good! The coffee was good too..Can you tell I love this place? This was our second trip to Mast Farm Inn and I promise you will love it if you choose to go there for a little getaway..you won't be dissappointed. We will be back!

My husband and I were somewhat frustrated with the huge number of people at the general store and were disappointed in the cold snowy weather the first weekend in Oct. Mast Farm Inn was a wonderful and quiet refuge. The staff was more than helpful, the room very comfortable but overpriced. Noisy staircase next to our room and noise from dining room was irritating. Setting is only few feet from busy road. Good veggie sausage and coffee delivered to our door was nice treat.

We all loved the old farmhouse/cabin atmosphere. The decorating was very appropriate, the beds were extremely comfortable. It was nice to have a full kitchen, although we ate out the entire time, except for the meals provided there. The breakfasts were delicious and different both days. We also ate dinner at the Inn one night and it was absolutely delicious. We will definitely stay with you, again.

We stayed late in the week so we could have dinner at the Inn. It was an excellent meal and the room in the inn was more than could have been asked for. My husband and I enjoy staying at B&B's when we travel and select them based on the "food" reviews. The Mast Farm Inn is 5 star with dining. Our evening was baked trout and we knew in advance what our entree' would be. Our dormer room was spacious, clean and had the most comfortable mattress, ever. Service was outstanding and our server,Velva, gave new meaning to excellence.

We visited as a family getaway with our 2 kids (ages 4 and 7). We chose the Granary--perfect choice--it makes for a great family stay! Very spacious, yet cozy. The master bedroom has a lovely, big tub (and a great shower and big robes....), the bed is comfortable with great linens and there is an awesome view onto the pasture. Though there was another bedroom with full bath, both of my children LOVED the cozy loft and slept there. (I thought I'd be nervous with my wild 4 yr old near the rail but it didn't seem that scary). DVD players in both bedrooms let us watch movies each night, plus there was a closet with games and puzzles. The best thing about the Granary is how secluded it feels--across from the main house, tucked behind the barn, all you see are the pastures and mountains. There is a deck with rocking chairs off the living room, and the pasture is right there with resident donkey and horse, which thrilled the kids--my 7 yr. old was the first awake and dressed both mornings--out talking to the donkey in the rising fog before anyone else rolled out of bed. Husband was happy to just sit and watch the mountains all evening. Full kitchen was well stocked with anything you'd need to cook. Planned to go out the second night but the setup was so cozy we got steaks and stayed in (I even pilfered a sprig of basil from the kitchen gardens for salads!) and ate at the picnic table next to the fields. Breakfasts were awesome--kids were given fancy waffles that were served very quickly--this special attention was a nice touch. We had an amazing yogurt, fruit, granola parfait thing that was delicious! Also sampled eggs, sausage, grits, french toast with wonderful fruit compote topping and a delicious ricotta strudel. Fresh herbs and heirloom tomatoes decorated the plates. Overall it was a great weekend and we definitely plan on returning. Very relaxing, lovely visit!!

Fabulous! My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and birthdays all together. My husband travels often and we don't usually have that much time together so I thought it would be nice to try a bed and breakfast. I booked the Loom Cottage and found it to be the most wonderful get away weekends we have had together in a long time. From the moment we arrived to the time we departed we could not stop speaking how wonderful the whole experience was. The staff, the food and the accomondations were perfect. This was the total package. We will be back...Thank you for your hospitality.

We spent on night at the Mast Farm Inn. The service and attention to detail was amazing, from the personalized welcome note to the chocolate chip cookies in our room. We enjoyed complimentary champagne and live music on the porch. The breakfast was delicious - far more food than we actually needed. Breakfast was proceeded by an early morning hot coffee delivery to our room. Although not included in the cost of the room, the price fixe dinner they serve was outstanding. If you are spending the night, and even if you're not, make dinner reservations at the Inn. I'm sure we'll be back to stay again.

My eldest daughter and I have very little time for just the two of us. Having been to the inn in the past we decided to have a get away there for just the two of us. We spent two nights in the woodworking shop and they were both delightful. The breakfasts were as we remembered from 5 years ago, the oatmeal and the yougart/granola as good as we remembered!!! We regret that we were there during the week when dinner was not served. The inn, the food and the staff make this a fabulous place to visit!!! I hope to visit again in the near future.

I was looking for something memorable to do on our 37th anniversary and certainly found it at the Mast Farm Inn. From the moment I made reservations until check out, Everything was handled professionally. You felt the kindness from the initial contact. I loved the look, the feel and warmth of this B & B. I can't say enough about it. We were in the Cherry room and it was all that was promised and more. Very clean and old world charm but with all modern convenience. but NO T.V.! How great is that!! Anna (person that checks you in, and coordinates just about everything!) is a love, made us feel right at home and was always ready with a quick smile and directions! :) Sadly we did not get to eat dinner at the restaurant,(we were there when they were not open, so plan accordingly) but the breakfasts were absolutely delish and plenty of food. It's a great place for some R & R. We had a wonderful picnic lunch (it was extra, but soooo well worth it!) The flowers, champagne, all was perfect for our 37th anniversary! I highly recommend the Mast Farm Inn and will plan to go back.....Hey, I've got a birthday coming up!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the inn to celebrate his birthday. We stayed in the smallest room but it had everything we needed and we were amazed at the spaciousness of the bathroom. We both said we couldn't remember when we slept better. Special touches were a note when we arrived wishing him a happy birthday and a thermos of coffee in a basket outside the door each morning. The staff was very helpful with suggestions for restaurants and shopping in Boone and Blowing Rock. Our only regret was that we weren't there on the weekend when the restaurant was open. If the breakfasts were a good example of the food, dinner would be fabulous. We hope to return on a weekend next time.

With the date of mine and my wife's 27th year Wedding Anniversary quickly approaching, I wanted to do something different, something simple, but yet memorable. I did as most executives do, I ask my loyal intern/friend, who (by the way) takes it as a personal "challenge and accomplishment" in life, to find the greatest deal, at the finest place, with the best food, ......all combined with an Architecturally Historic "story" and "atmosphere". Sounds impossible to find that "place", when it falls into the category of a "B&B for the weekend"??!! It's not impossible!! The Mast Farm Inn!! A GREAT B&B, in Valle Crucis, NC. A Beautiful Historic Register Architectural Showcase, with interior rooms appointed in fine decor, each reflecting individual character. We stayed in one of the several cottages (Gazebo Cottage), positioned on the grounds adjacent to the main house. (The ONLY negative for the whole week-end was the water pressure for the shower in the Gazebo Cottage) Please do something!! The privacy was IDEAL! The facilities were CLEAN (spotless), The Staff was like family! The food was Fabulous, unlike any other B&B we've been to! .....and I must say that the front desk reservationist, "Anna" was very courteous, informative, and professional (over the phone and in person)!! We were located 5 minutes from the heart of Valle Crucis, 15 minutes from downtown Blowing Rock, and 15 minutes from AppState, where our oldest son will attend this Fall. At checkout, NO SURPRISES!! NO ADD-ONS, NO PENALTIES!! It was exactly what we expected, and exact in what we had purchased! After everyone had checked out, (Sunday) we requested a quick walk-through, to view a few open rooms, so we could make a list of where we'll stay in the Fall, when we return. All in all, the best "stay" away from home we've experienced. We will never have to "look" again for a fantastic B&B in the Boone, NC area.

We booked through Groupon and got a fantastic rate. We wondered if we would be treated any differently since we weren't paying full price, but we were welcomed and treated royally. The room was great, the staff was friendly, attentive and organized. We had a deer outside our window in the morning - feeding in the garden. Very picturesque. Cute kittens and rabbits, too. We feel the breakfast met our expectations, but could have been a home run with a more focused server.

Incredible B&B in a beautiful area. We stayed in the blacksmith shop which was very cute, cozy and comfortable. The pictures don't do it justice. Breakfast was so yummy and a vegetarian breakfast was served for my daughter who loved it and my bacon (which I call piggy candy) was scrumptious. Thanks you for sharing your special inn with us, we LOVED it!

We were not able to lock our room (you could from the inside while occupying, but not from the outside when leaving); the shower stall itself was small and awkward -- such a large shower head for such a small stall and a hanging soap/shampoo rack that was easily knocked out of place. The soaker tub was awesome! Coffee was not available until breakfast hours -- other B&Bs we have stayed at provide a coffee station much earlier which is a wonderful way to wake up before breakfast. Dinner was FABULOUS and our server personable and attentive and a delight. The breakfast was equally outstanding, but the early breakfast buffet for bike riders was a little scant. It would ahve been nice to have oatmeal on that cool morning before the ride. Nevertheless we had a great weekend despite the two big negatives -- the shower stall and no wake up coffee.

My husband and I spent a wonderful 4 days at the Inn, with no disturbances from the modern world, no phone, no TV, and no internet! We had romantic dinners, hiking, and just spent the time rejuvenating. The gourmet breakfasts were superb, served with a warm welcome, and the special dinners are first class. Our special anniversary dinner came with a personalized menu. We would recommend it highly.

I totally loved staying at this inn. It was a hidden paradise for myself and my partner. We felt completely comfortable and at ease being here. At first I was taken back when I saw there were no televisions but it was perfect without them. I really learned to enjoy quietness and time with my girlfriend. The only thing I did not particulary enjoy was breakfast but that is because I am a biscuit and gravy kind of girl. It was not bad at all just a little fancy for my taste buds. I can't wait to be back at Mast Farm Inn.

My husband and I stayed in the Loom House - on the property of the main inn- for two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The house was perfect - plenty of privacy, quiet and well-appointed. Rocking chairs on the little porch were a perfect way to spend time drinking coffee and chatting or reading. The breakfasts are amazing - so delicious and very filling, so much so, you can easily forgo lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful, even helping my husband figure out how to get flowers placed in our room as a surprise for me. I highly recommend The Mast Farm Inn.

We stayed in the Miss Allie room the first night and the Blacksmith Cabin the second night. Both we VERY clean and nice. It was quiet and peaceful and we sat on the porch and the small pier at the pond and had time with each other, God and the great outdoors. There is the Mast General Store and Annex close by and all of Boone/Blowing Rock to explore. The food was very good if you enjoy Fine Dining. If you're more of a "plain food" type person you may not appreciate the food as much...but it was good! Great service too!

Our one night stay was professional from check in to check out. Personnel was extremely friendly, Ms Allie Room was cozy, and the food was great-compliments to the Chef with the food and the presentation. Breakfast was simple but tasty.

The Mast Farm Inn is a pleasant B+B on a very pretty road which runs through the town of Valle Crucis. We had a pleasant stay, but think the Inn is a bit pricey for what you get. The Inn is located very close to Broadstone Road, which is relatively busy, so you'll hear some road noise while here (if that's something that bothers you). The cabin we stayed in was very cute, but kind of stuffy for the summer. The breakfast was truly outstanding - we received a beautiful two course breakfast that used local, often homemade ingredients.

I have been visiting the Mast Farm Inn for the last 20 years or so. It keeps getting better as the years go by. The rooms are familiar and lovely. The service is phenomenal... you know the staff is there to make you happy. The food is PHENOMENAL. While it is worth a trip just for dinner but I highly encourage folks to spend the night. I live in Michigan now but will surely make the drive again to visit my friends at the Mast Farm Inn.

Over a year ago my husband and I were trying to find the perfect place for our wedding. We visited the Mast Farm Inn on Valentine's Day 2010 and we charmed by the country yet classy feel of the Inn and the grounds. We were so thrilled to have dinner at Simplicity and have been served by the amazing waitress, Velva. We enjoyed talking with her about her family farm and her life in the mountains. The biggest treat was getting to try the fantastic food and meeting the incredible woman behind the food, Miss Danielle. After meeting Danielle we knew that the Mast Farm Inn was the perfect place for our wedding. Over the last year I have had the honor of working so closely with Danielle in creating the perfect weekend for our family and friends. She was incredibly supportive of my vision and worked so hard to make things perfect for our weekend. I was unbelievably impressed by her drive and genuine interest in her guests. When our special weekend for our wedding was final here, she went above and beyond to make sure every detail was perfect. She went out of her way to make me, the bride, as comfortable as I could be. I had no stress because I knew that she would make sure everything was perfect. Having her family so closely involved in the operation - her hardworking fiance Ken and her sweet mother -- was certainly a huge part of the equation. My wedding weekend went off without a hitch. It was the perfect event. Every person at our wedding thought it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I have no complaints. The Mast Farm Inn has the most beautiful location, the most kind people, and the most charming atmosphere. The best part of the whole experience was that my wedding planner became my dear friend and I look forward to going back many times in the future to visit the Mast Farm Inn family. Thank you Danielle!

Unfortunately, my stay was brief as the occasion that brought me to Mast Farm Inn was a wedding that will not soon be forgotten (nor surpassed in fun and excitement for that matter). Consequently, the amount of enjoyment that I had in that short period was in large credit to the great hospitality of Mast Farm Inn. The check in was fast, the staff entirely delightful and laid back, breakfast was amazing, and the grounds were extraordinarily beautiful. If I lived even remotely close, there would be no question that this place would be a cause for frequent visits. My only regret is that I was unable to stay longer. Roxie and the donkey were a highlight that you will certainly not enjoy at any other B&B, especially during the course of a wedding. Kudos for such a wonderful time!

We stayed in the Gazebo Cottage at Mast Farm Inn while visiting relatives in the area. The cottage was very well appointed, had access to a lovely hot tub, was clean, tidy, and overall extremely pleasant. The breakfast that was included with the room was absolutely delightful (waffles on Friday and quiche on Saturday). The farmhouse, which serves as the reception, lounge, and dining area was fabulous, well-maintained and very comfortable. The staff was knowledgable and helpful. A bit of a splurge overall for my budget, honestly, but worth every penny.

Beautifully kept grounds and rooms. Food was just OK, stayed for two nights and both breakfasts were very similar and ultra sweet both times, they also did not pay attention to my special dietary request...I did not make a big deal about it, but I know other travelers who would be extremely upset about something like this.

Mast Farm made this one of our favorite vacations ever. When we arrived we were able to pick from the unreserved rooms and all of the rooms are nice. The staff was accommodating for breakfast, and the location of the Inn is perfect since it is in between three towns - far enough to be private but still have short beautiful drives to go sightseeing. We highly recommend Mast Farm Inn for a mountain getaway.

Following our stay at the Mast Farm Inn in january we immediately made plans to return in spring. that was last weekend. consistancy is hard to find these days but this inn was just as exeptional as our first stay. they even remembered our details without being reminded! next stop is mid july.

It was such a wonderful weekend even though it was stormy and raining part of the weekend. We enjoyed the Friday 5PM champagne and the 8AM wake up coffee. We spent time reading & swinging on the wraparound porch dodginh the showers. The staff was fabulous with their help in locating points of interest and making dinner reservations for us. The food was outstanding and the servings were hefty. The MFI pays attention to every detail to make your stay as great as it can be.

We recently had the privilege of staying in the Woodwork Shop cabin at MFI. We loved it! The cabin was cozy, clean, and roomy! The attention to detail at MFI is second to none with a helpful and friendly staff. Our breakfast was scrumptious featuring more food than we could eat! We certainly will recommend MFI to family and friends and we hope to return!

I booked this trip for my husbands birthday and we loved every minute. The rooms are gorgeous and exceptionally clean. I have stayed in many hotels and the bedding and linens were by far the most comfortable. The innkeeper was very helpful and friendly. We stayed in the Cousin Sarah room and it was beautiful. You are only minutes from town but you would never know it. It was so peaceful and quiet. We plan on coming back in later spring or summer and take advantage of the wrap around porch and the pond out back.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in the Loom House, on the property of The Mast Farm Inn. This historic building had all the modern conveniences, without taking away from the original aspects of the building/location. Breakfast each morning was outstanding! Their oatmeal is seriously the best thing ever... but each course was delicious in its own right. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Mast Farm Inn... whether you stay in the main house, or one of the other buildings on the property, they treat you like family and make you feel right at home!

We enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable, rooms were clean, and staff was very friendly. The only part we were slightly disappointed in was breakfast. The food we ate was good, but we thought there would be more offered to eat. We weren't completely full after what was served.

A stay in the Loom House was my husband's birthday gift to me. We more than needed to have some time to ourselves and some very special TLC. This was a most welcome break, and we completely enjoyed our lodging, dinner and breakfast, the wonderful staff and company of other guests. We live in a log cabin on our farm about 20 miles away yet we still find this a special place for special occasions. Can't wait to return!

We enjoyed a pleasant night at the Mast Farm Inn at the height of the fall leaves. The room was well equiped and scenic. The hosts were helpful in finding local meals and directions to sites. We stayed one night at the inn while on our honeymoon roadtrip through the area. We were in the Maple Springs Cottage. It was absolutely charming! Very tasteful, warm and welcoming. Everything you could want and more. We also had dinner at the restaurant. It came highly reccomended and managed to exceeded our expectations. We had four courses for dinner, all of which were delicious, seasonal and local. I would highly reccomend the inn and restaurant to anyone planning a visit to the area! We only wished we had booked in for more nights!

my husband and i try to take a "leaf tour" weekend each october. this year, i found Mast Farm Inn simply by searching online for inns close to Boone and the blue ridge parkway. i chose it because of high reviews and the southern living recommendation. Mast Farm has a convenient location and is in a beautiful mountain setting - plus it is a gorgeous old home. we stayed in the elizabeth grey room in the main house. the bed was comfortable and the room tastefully decorated in period pieces. the best part of our weekend was the AMAZING breakfasts and the evening meal at their restaurant, simplicity. every dish/course was a delicious treat. the service was helpful. my only complaints are 1) next time i would stay in one of the cabins to have a little more privacy. since the house is old - and there is no TV or other "noises", i felt like we were sharing our room with everyone on the floor. i prefer a more private setting than what we had. 2) we stayed 2 nights and our room was not cleaned or "re-made" during the day while we were out. we returned about 3:30 in the afternoon after our first night to find our room the same as when we left it. about 5-5:30 the maid came and asked if we needed anything and i asked for clean towels. But even with those 2 issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the inn to our friends.

My sister, her son, my wife and I spent a long weekend there quite recently and we are happy to report that this inn has it all: excellent comfort; great environmental charm; quick access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the cozy Boone and Blowing Rock downtown areas; unbelievably good and fancy food (breakfast and dinner) from fresh ingredients, prepared by the truly expert hands and minds of a unique mother-daughter team; unique accommodations that take you back to gentler, less hurried times; and above all the sweetness of the husband and wife managers and the friendliest, perkiest, least invasive but greatly attentive to details, staff (Jen and Velva) you're likely to meet in a grand tour of B&B's. Everyone, not specifically mentioned here, left a distinct but pleasant impression... not excluding Señor Personalidad (a donkey) and a show horse in the field just across the street, next to the most unexpected owner's office, which is reminiscent of another place and another time. I took pleasure in feeding them apples, and while I was a bit apprehensive, I am happy to report that they fed from my hands without a bite! The last thing I will mention, which I can't possibly leave out, is the wonderful jazz repertoire that accompanied all of our meals, softly punctuated by the voices of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and other greats of their era. Should I mention a negative? Well, it's hardly one, but if you read this review you should be aware that if you are on a restricted diet, you would do well to mention it in advance to the management when making your reservations, because otherwise you may have lots to explain to your doctor when you get back to your abode and more mundane settings.

Quaint, historic building; lovely, peaceful setting, and a wonderful relaxing porch. Our room was perfect, and even though we expected a great experience, there were still some surprises, not the least being the morning coffee/tea delivered to our room. And then there's the dining room! Excellent breakfast and dinner, and the most gracious service.

I recently had the great fortune of staying at the Mast Farm Inn for 4 days and 3 nights. Everyone here was so welcoming and made me feel right at home. What a gorgeous place and so beautifully kept. I could feel the Inn's history everywhere. The beautiful mountains of North Carolina envelop the area surrounding the inn. The owners are a dear family whose caring about their guests and the inn show in every way. The exceptional service and attention to detail were always present. And I loved my guest welcome kit. The food at their award-winning restaurant was gourmet, unique and nothing short of incredible. This is a very special place, exceptional in every way. Carol H., Vermont

From the moment i arrived i was sure that i would not want to leave this breath-taking place when my time there was over, and i was right! The location in the mountains in North Carolina offered perfect weather for most of my stay and soothed my soul with it's peaceful serenity. The award-winning restaurant left nothing to be desired with world-class offerings at every meal, nothing less than superb! it was especially nice to walk through the beautiful gardens right next to the Inn where much of the produce in my many delicious meals was grown. The decor was right on point with the luxurious country surroundings right down to the antique wardrobe which held the plush cotton robes for lounging. The Inn and all it's cabins and outbuildings were fascinating and full of rich history, most of them don't even have locks which is not a problem in this quiet place. The real secret behind the success of this place is in the details. Upon checking in i was greeted by name by the friendly staff and given a key to my room and there i found a "welcome kit" that had not only the expected information about local attractions and outdoor activities, but also personalized menus for the duration of our stay! The amount of planning and preparation that is done before you arrive ensures that you have nothing left to worry about upon your arrival except how late you want to sleep in on your incredibly comfortable bed nestled in the super soft, multi-thousand thread count sheets! The cleaning staff crept in only while i was away and reset my room to perfection and the service form the staff was excellent and extremely helpful. Highly Recommended!!!!! -Nolan L in Missouri

My wife and I travel a lot and we've found our new favorite hideaway. The Mast Farm Inn exceeded our expectations in all areas. The peaceful and serene surroundings made for one of the most relaxing trips we've ever hard. The staff is kind and attentive to every detail. We were blown away by the personalized menus. Each meal was top shelf and prepared in a way that made me feel I was dining in the French countryside. Visiting The Mast General Store is a must. You won't regret visiting The Mast Farm Inn.

How do you write in a few lines what was surely one of our best travel experiences ever. From it's setting in the Great Smoky Mountains with all the scenic views in the surrounding area and the many historic places to the unrivaled cuisine and accommodations I can't remember ever being more nurtured, cared for or entertained by intelligent conversations than by our hosts, who now are more like dear friends, the Deschamps family. I guess my best description would be that "Our visit at The Mast Farm Inn was one place and one place in time when we were almost touching heaven from here on the earth".. Bryce Barker

Staying at the Mast Farm Inn is like walking into a painting. We've stayed in many bed & breakfasts and hotels and none compare to it. They thought of every detail and didn't cut any corners. The family that runs it is a bunch of sweethearts and love what they do. I would recommend this place to everyone, and I have.

My husband and I stayed at the Mast Farm Inn the night before skiing at Beech Mountain. From check-in to departure, the staff could not have been more accommodating. Even when we were departing in the morning to hit the ski slopes, we were leaving before the usual breakfast time. The lady at the front desk offered to run to the kitchen to see if there was anything ready yet as she didn't want us "skiing on an empty stomach". She came back with 2 freshly baked muffin tops that we could take with us -- they were delicious!! Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay. The rooms are all unique, but clean, comfortable, charming -- just lovely. We stayed in the Cousin Sarah room. I am an extremely light sleeper and slept through the night without any interruption. It's truly a place to get away from it all. Will definitely be going back.

My husband and I decided somewhat last minute to take a trip to the mountains for our anniversary. We had always wanted to stay at the Mast Farm Inn, and when we called, to our delight, they had availiability! Our room was incredible, the people were more than accomodating, but the true highlight was the food. My wife and I stayed 3 nights for our 19th anniversary. It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever experienced! Never have we had so many people trying so hard so make us happy. Being Vegan can be challenging while traveling, usually meaning I'm cooking while on vacation. But the chiefs were happy to accommodate. We were only fortunate enough to have dinner once, the night we arrived. The chefs prepared an excellent meal for us being careful of allergies and dietary restrictions and everything was served with a smile giving us a glimpse of what was to come. Our first morning it was cold outside but the Warmth, laughter and unbelievable food served with a friendly smile kept us happy all day. We could not wait for breakfast every morning. We stayed in the Maple springs cabin. It’s on the hill behind the Inn surrounded by deer and tall white pines. It was warm and private with a hot tub in the snow. What a great way to end the year. When we checked out it was like leaving family. We are already planning our next visit.

I gave my wife a two day stay at the Inn for Christmas. I selected the Blacksmith's Shoppe because it is seperate from the main house. The room was as advertized in every way. Warm and inviting. There was 12" of fresh snow on the ground so the whole place looked like a post card. We slept with the door open and the gas stove on at night. The restaurant was only open for breakfast during our stay but the recommendations for other places by the innkeepers were fantastic. We ahd two small hickups during our stay. First was during day two breakfast when the corn muffin top and hot(LOL) chocholate were served cold. The french toast served after that was unbelieveable and more than made up for the first bobble. the second miscue was in my opinion unforgiveable. The housekeeping staff removed a coffee mug from our room that I had purchased fro my wife as a gift. These mugs are not used by the Inn for drink service so there was no reason for it to have been removed. It was replaced by the innkeeper but is was a gift and therefore a replacement was unacceptable. We still however highly recommend this Inn.

I stayed one night with my son, a student at one of the nearby colleges. Everything was just perfect from the delightful lady who took my phone reservation to the server at breakfast. Our room was perfectly spotless with comfortable beds with fabulous pillows and comforters. We had a fireplace with gas logs in our room. Their attention to detail was wonderful -- I'd mentioned that I needed to come up to buy a ski jacket for my son and what a surprise to find a list of local ski shops waiting for me on my bed! My son loved being able to be "connected" to the internet and I loved not having a television in my room! It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and arriving back after our evening out was just magical with all of the lights and decorations. Breakfast was hearty and fabulous! I felt as if I'd been away on vacation for a week after having stayed there only one night! We'll be back for sure!

It was a birthday present for my boyfriend. A mountain trip away from the every day frenzy and schedules of normal life. We stayed in the blacksmith shop and our entire experience from our cottage to the breakfast and service was high class, unique, and extravagantly simple. The outside of our cottage looked old, like a photograph of an old barn on the side of a country road, the roof perfectly rusted. The inside was warm, a fire glowing in the corner, and fresh, new wood enveloping a very clean, loft style room. In our loft upstairs, there was a claw foot bathtub to accompany the shower and bathroom downstairs. We used it all. There was an old classic movie sitting in a basket w/ a bag of popped popcorn next to the remote. In the CD player was a mountain string band playing which we swapped out with the newest Norah Jones CD. The bed was soft, warm, big. And right next to the fireplace. Our breakfast the first morning was rich and sinful- chocolate, banana pancakes smothered in syrup w/ bacon and homemade hot chocolate . My boyfriend is a finicky eater and doesn't eat much (quantity or variety). He ate every bite. The 2nd morning, we elected to sleep in and missed our dining room breakfast. Waiting for us on the porch was a basket of homemade iced pumpkin muffins and homemade yogurt parfait. We had our own cofee "station" in our room w/ regular and decaf fresh beans which we would grind ourselves for the freshest coffee. It was just like being at home, only better b/c we weren't. Across the street from our cottage was an old barn with horses and refurbished porsches. It was too cool a scene to really describe well. Some other guests found the carrot stash and we helped them offer up the carrots to the horse and donkey...a little girl fed the rabbits too. It was sad leaving. We will certainly be back. I will recommend this Inn to anyone and everyone I know.

The food was excellent and the inn was beautiful. We felt that is was overpriced for what we got. Our room (the Cherry room) not as clean as we would expect it to be with the price we paid. There was a lot of dust especially on the floors. The "king size" bed was actually 2 twin beds pushed together. The crack between the two beds was uncomfortable. Overall, we had a nice stay but felt we paid too much.
We are sincerely sorry your stay did not match your expectations of value in terms of the 2 reasons you describe. We are glad that you found The food excellent and the inn beautiful. ~ For the dust: I have to say I am surprised by the cleanliness comment because that is the single most important factor to us here. We have a lot of procedures in place to assure cleanliness. Among which, we vacuum the floor after sweeping, and after housekeeping has finished the room, every single day, we have a person whose sole job here is to inspect for cleanliness and prep the room with flowers, water, cookies, snacks, etc... Our sanitation score for the Inn is exceptionally high at 96.5 and for the restaurant 100. Something may have happened and we can only apologize and wish you had brought the matter to our attention at that time. You can see in many of the reviews here very high marks for cleanliness, although significantly more challenging in a Historic Register property ~ For the bed: You are right and that was the result of a mix-up as some guests request the two mattress arrangement, and we will be changing things back to the way they are supposed to be. We would have changed then and there had we known ~ Overall value: I stayed at a hotel recently where Internet was $17.26 a day, parking $27.41, very plain minimal breakfast $70 a day for two, and small bottle of water in the room was $5. That is $117.41 a day in tack-ons. And this was in a regular American city not Manhattan. On Veterans Day Weekend, you paid $219 a day all included. People tend to forget all that is included in B&B rates when compared to hotels rates. Here, all and much more, such as all the soft drinks, coffee, tea, homemade cookies, and snacks, are free, including a Champagne reception with food, and live music if you book on weekends where rates are slightly higher than weekdays. I am not saying this is your case but it is important people compare apples to apples. Again our apologies.

I just wanted to drop a note and tell you how much we enjoyed staying at The Inn this weekend. The absence of the phone, cable, internet and most of the cell phone service, was so refreshing. I've experienced this many times before on camping trips (which I dearly love) but to have the girls around and them be happy campers was so much more better. It was an eye opening experience to these modern day distractions, that we sometimes call necessities (though they aren't really) and how they take precious time away from us to interact with those things of life that we should cherish the most, our family. The food was superb and the service as well. Your staff spoke very highly of having the opportunity to work for such a wonderful family as yours. It was very good to get to share time with your family, getting to meet Sandra, Danielle and Marie, and seeing the love and devotion to service and happiness they afford the guests of your home. Thanks again for helping me to spend one of the best weekends with my family that I have had so far, to this point in life. I know it won't be the last one that we spend together at your place. We'll have to do it again. Take care and God bless you all, Mike
Dear Mike, We cannot thank you enough for the very kind words of encouragement and support. Many things we do and don't do sometimes go unnoticed. So it is truly heart warming to receive a review such as this.

We wanted somewhere to get away and recharge our batteries. Our stay in the Gazebo Cottage was just what we needed. The cottage was lovely, the gas stove cozy and the bed comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Forget Me Nots on Friday evening. The weather was lovely and we enjoyed hiking around the property and visiting the rabbits. The food was marvelous .... slow cooking produces incredible results! We highly recommend it and plan to return again and again.
Thank you so very much for such an articulate and detailed review. Guests such as you make this profession a real pleasure, and as 5 members of our family work here full time it is also very gratifying and encouraging. Thanks again.

Very cozy B&B in Valle Crucis, NC. We were upgraded to the Blacksmith Shop cottage on account of a slower Fall weekend - it was great! Friendly and helpful staff, cozy and comfortable lodging, very good breakfast. Beautiful location in the pasture land of Valle Crucis, just around the bend from Mast General Store. A great, relaxing weekend. Thanks!
Thank you for taking the time to write such a clear review. Hearing things from previous guests is much more important than anything we could have to say, and it enables people to determine for themselves if we are a good fit for their plans. Thanks.

A wonderful 3 night stay at Mast Farm Inn. The Blacksmith Shop where we stayed was quaint, comfortable and impeccably clean. The staff was uniformly helpful, and service oriented. We asked for ideas for places to go for trail running, hiking and bicycling and were steered in the perfect direction each time The food was outstanding. All in all a first rate stay. I don't know how they could have done any better.
Thank you. The Blacksmith shop is indeed a wonderful place to stay for 3 days. You can feel the layers of tension peeling off after about 15 minutes there. We greatly appreciate your very kinds words. Thanks again.

What a wonderful weekend at the Mast Farm Inn! The room was so quaint and cozy. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent! It was hard to leave...
Thank you so much for the very nice review. We know what you mean about hard to leave. This is a magical little valley. Hoping to see you again soon.

What a wonderful destination B&B. We enjoyed everything about our stay. The staff was helpful without being intrusive, the food was outstanding, the setting (rooms, gardens and surrounding country side) was beautiful, relaxing and fun. I would highly recommend the Mast Farm Inn as a place to get away and enjoy the company of someone you love or the peace of nature. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in one of the cabin's which was rustic and lovely. The hot tub was a plus, along with the bath robes (nice touch). The guest bag was nice along with the personalized letter, but to make it more intimate, you might want to add the breakfast menu (since breakfast is included) along with any/all activities going on in the are or at the Inn. The staff was wonderful; the food, good; the stay..wonderful; the colors.......amazing. Thank you! Raleigh, NC visitors

While the Mast Farm Inn had lots of nice qualities, my biggest issue was their failure to advise their customers to avoid the road between Banner Elk and their Inn. The dirt road is loaded with hairpin turns on a rapidly declining slope. Coupled with the long drive to the Inn, a rainy night and thick fog it was particularly treacherous. It is enough to ruin anybody's vacation by itself. Then when we got there we were really ready for a nice meal. There are no restaurants anywhere near the Mast Farm Inn, so we called the number they left us for inquiries. The home number was answered by their maid and she could not help us at all. The cell number they left for us was the wrong number! We had to drive all the way back to Banner Elk to get dinner. Fortunately, our waiter there was able to give us an alternate route back tot he Mast Farm Inn. It was longer, but a much better drive. The waiter told us that the road between Banner Elk and the Mast Farm Inn is treacherous on a bright and sunny day, so he was very sympathetic to our situation. The people at the Mast Farm Inn could have spared us the pain, but failed to do so. I will also mention that there is a single step after you come down the stairs from the third floor that is poorly marked. There is no effort to people aware of the step. I stumbled on the step and my wife fell down completely. The woman who helped my wife up stated that she had tripped in her bedroom as well. Finally, the owner of the B&B proudly sports seven of his nine Porsche's out by the barn. If someone is headed to the mountains to enjoy the simpler life, this pretentious display of excess will do nothing to enhance the rusticity of the mountains. It was disgusting. He even has a Porsche golf cart for show. Our rooms were $250 a night. For that money, I would expect a higher level of consideration of the guest's experience.
The roads to here are all paved. It seems you took a wrong turn and ended up on a dirt road thinking that was the only way here. All three primary accesses to the Inn: Broadstone, NC105 and NC194 are fully paved the entire way. There are 50 plus restaurants within a 8 mile radius; and we have a complete list with descriptions at the front desk. You received an email questionnaire 7-10 days prior to arrival which asked if we could help you with anything, including dinner reservations. The phone numbers are printed, on display several places, and all are correct. It's possible you dialed a wrong number. At home it's also possible a nanny answered but 95% of the time someone is home as 5 of us live on the same property. In fact if you are who we think you are, my wife answered the phone. As she has a French accent perhaps you thought she was hispanic, hence the maid. There is no owner here, there are five. The Porches are not the owner's, nor belong to any of the owners, but to a fleet-sharing club located across the street at the barn. The Porsche Golf cart you speak of is no such thing, but an street-legal electric car made by Chrysler that we use; as we live 500 yards down the road this cuts down on wasted gas going back and forth, eliminates emissions, and hopefully demonstrates that electric vehicles can be of practical use. The reviews here and elsewhere speak eloquently of the very highest quality of our personal assistance and services. While we regret you stay started off on a bad foot due to a wrong turn and fog, and seemed to remain fixed in that state of discontent, we can only help if we know there is a problem. We ask guests almost every time we see them how everything is going and if they need any help. We work hard to provide the very highest quality available anywhere and feel your review is not an accurate portrayal or characterization of our efforts. The Mast Farm Inn

This was our first stay at The Mast Farm Inn. Our son was getting married in one of the oldest church's in the area but we had our accomodations and the luncheon at The Mast Farm Inn. OMG! what a luncheon it was. Excellent food & service. We enjoyed every minute we could soak up. We stayed at the Granary and enjoyed the horse and donkey show. The back porch with the rocking chairs and beautiful sunsets along with the rest of the wedding party. The Porche Club was a plus. Sandra upgraded our family with an extra room at the Inn because of more family members attending unexpectly. What a beautiful weekend. Thanks to everyone at The Mast Farm Inn the weekend was breathtaking!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Woodwork Shop cottage. It was better than I even imagined. We walked into a cozy setting with soft lighting and soft Irish music playing in the background. There were so many beautiful touches. Quilts, a clawfoot tub, the charming loft upstairs. All this made for an unforgettable place to stay. I can't say enough for the food either. We had dinner and breakfast and both were superb. Friendly service all around. The bunnies on the premises were fun too. Highly recommend the Mast Farm Inn.

Our stay at the Mast Farm Inn was a delightful change from the many B&B's we've visited over the years. Our room was spacious with exquisite decor, and included a very comfortable sitting area. The vegatable garden, rabbits, and pond available for fishing, along with the serene location, made it very special. The staff (family) is exceptional, breakfasts are outstanding (gourmet); early morning coffee delivered to our room was especially appreciated. All-in-all, the Mast Farm Inn is a real WINNER!!

My 2 sisters and I stayed at Mast Farm Inn to celebrate birthdays. This was the first trip the 3 of us had ever taken together with out family tagging along! The staff was wonderful. Gaetano upgraded us to the largest cottage at no extra charge so that we would be more comfortable. The view was fabulous from our back deck in the Garnery! The food was outstanding at every meal-including our complimentary breakfasts- thanks to Danielle! Jen served us our meals with enthusiasim and personality...we loved her! Sandra was very helpful at our check-out and even made a deal with us about our next stay ;-) Migel is the grounds keeper and we loved talking with him daily--especially my youngest sister who is a garden enthusiast. We will definatley be returning on a yearly basis!

Mast Farm Inn was the destination for my son's wedding late August 2009. 72 guests came from all corners of the country and absolutely every single guest felt like they had found of piece of mountain paradise and commented that it was so worth the trip. Everything was perfect: the staff, the accommodations, the food, and the setting incredibly beautiful. Martha Stewart couldn't have done better. Organic country elegance at its best!

My partner and I had an AMAZING time at the Mast Farm Inn. Staff was incredible, scenic location, comfortable rooms, fantastic food. The Porche club cars across the road under the most beautiful tobacco barn added atmosphere, as did the organic garden. Can't wait to return!

My husband wanted to surprise me w/ a little getaway and would not tell me where we were going so, I decided to do some snooping on my own. We are B & B lovers and have been to b & b's all over including England and Scotland so, I knew it had to be nice if he was surprising me. I went online and searched all the top rated b & b's out there, but couldn't figure out which one. When we pulled up to the Mast Farm Inn, I was pleased and thought it was very charming. Guytano greeted us and was so wonderful and everything was so organized and efficiently run. I was extremely impressed by how clean and well groomed everything was bc I know how hard it is to keep dust and spider webs under control in old places. We stayed in the Granary and loved it! All the little touches of decor made it so special w/ the old Life magazines, pictures and antiques. We loved the back porch w/ rocking chairs and enjoyed sharing the property w/ a horse and donkey. The beds were extremely comfortable and bathrooms up to date and beautiful. I've saved the best for last... The food! OMG! Everything was so fresh and yummy! My husband and I cook a lot and it was so great having someone cook for us and such flavors! Breakfast was delicious and stayed w/ us most of the day. We were still full at lunch time. Meeting Sandra was like seeing an old friend and Danielle finds time to cook unbelievable dinners, but at the same time make you feel at home and do everything else. I don't know how this family can run such a well-oiled establishment and find time to make people feel so at home, but they do it and very successfully! We will definitely be going back to the Mast Farm Inn and what a great surprise it was!

A long overdue 3-day weekend escape & celebrate a birthday - well, it just doesn't get better than the historic, pristine Mast Farm Inn in Valle Crucis. I led a company management retreat at the Mast Farm Inn. They did a great job in meeting our needs for rooms, flexibility and planning a great dinner. We had the place to ourselves which worked out great. We used a couple of the houses and rooms in the Inn. I would recommend consideration for this type of function as the setting is great, cost is reasonable and food is wonderful. Bank CEO

Valle Crucis is a timeless valley right in the heart of NC ski country. We stayed on the third floor in the Cherry Room, which is large, well appointed, and comfortable. It was delightful to walk in the room and hear local area music playing and see two fresh cookies on the table. The clawfoot bathtub was luxurious. The grounds are lovely -- plenty of scenic strolling area to work off the good food they serve. Although they request dietary restriction information at registration, it would have been nice to know what was on the menu for breakfast before it was served and to have a few options from which to choose. The local products sold there are a little on the pricey side, but they have a nice variety of offerings. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We look forward to future visits.

My wife and I enjoy reading in a quiet serene setting. We found that while staying in the Gazeebo. This was our second stay at Mast Farm Inn, and we will go back. We like everything, from the very comfortable beds, the furnishings, the cleanliness, and the setting. but most of all the food. We had pecan encrusted trout one evening with a Reisling that was a great match. Breakfasts were wonderfully and tastefully prepared and presented.

This "mini-vacation" began as a gift certficate from our daughter and her husband. We were desperate for some quiet time and a chance to recharge our batteries. Our stay was exactly what we needed. The preparation for our visit was impressive, and our exprience only got better after we arrived. The room was very comfortable, the hosts warm and friendly, and the food amazing. We even got a report on the family's fishing excursion. What a delight! We will try to schedule a return visit very soon.

My wife and I have stayed at The Mast Farm Inn four times now and will and will be returning for a fifth stay next summer if not sooner. The Mast Farm Inn is first class in all areas. What we like best is the personal and kind touch of class which permeates throughout our stay there by Ms. Sandra Siano and Ms. Danielle Deschamps. I honestly feel as a guest that I am part of their family! I know they mean that to be but that is very hard to do. Our stays at The Mast Farm Inn remain one of the best travel experiences of the many we have taken. Not only are the accommodations second to none, the dining there is also first class. The menus for each meal are personalized. Now, that is unique and guests get a kick out of the extra time spent on adding tidbits of information from guests’ hometowns to even hobbies to their menus. Moreover, the food is not only very well prepared but served tastefully with a genuine country home grown theme. In fact, every time we return, we continue to be amazed how good the meals are here. I would unhesitatingly refer this superb restaurant and lodging establishment to those travelers out there who want a comfortable stay with these superb innkeepers who truly mean to make their guests feel right at home but at the same time allow the proper space needed by many. Sandra Siano, Danielle Deschamps and their families have done it right. The innkeeper’s sincerity, friendship, consideration and refreshing kindness is very well appreciated.

This was my first time at a bed and breakfast, but if this is how bed and breakfast experiences are everywhere then I clearly need to plan more trips that include them! My boyfriend and I stayed in the Blacksmith Shop, which was stunning (in particular, the large pink claw-foot tub in the loft was a dream come true--no bubble bath was provided as promised on the website, though). The price for a mid-week stay was a little high in my opinion, but we didn't feel that our money was not well spent at the end of our stay. What was worth every penny of our stay: the breakfasts. A-maz-ing. We stayed for 3 days and each morning had a unique breakfast, and the staff remembered our tea/coffee/juice habits and had the table pre-set for us each morning on the second and third day before we even arrived. Between the muffin tops, the oatmeal with raspberry preserves, the chocolate chip pancakes with banana glaze (or the cream cheese and raspberry stuffed pancakes with peach glaze)...I wish I was there right now to enjoy the food! So unbelievably yummy! Overall, great place. And the bunnies raised on the property are adorable.

We came to Mast Farm Inn because our daughter had seen it and fell in love with it and wanted to be married there. We understand now what she saw in the Inn. Her wedding was everything she wanted and more and everyone was so pleasant and helpful it made the time stress free for us. The food was wonderful and the service was great. We had a 2 year old and a 2 month old in our group and everything was done to see that they were taken care of. We stayed in the Granary and it was so nice with everything to make us comfortable. Everyone we met that worked there was pleasant and so very helpful. It was a great experience.

Our first impression was, "Oh my how wonderful" and that remained the feeling the entire stay. The staff were very service minded and responded to all our requests. Our breakfast was delightful and was a very generous meal. I would highly recommend The Mast Farm Inn for a quiet, charming stay. Boone is just a few minutes away for those seeking shopping and night life.

This property has the most outstanding customer service that you can wish for, its location, the presentation of its rooms and its outstanding dining experience make it the best place my wife and I have stayed in North Carolina. The local amenities, most of which can be booked through the Inn are excellent value especially the fly fishing lessons through “River Girl”. The perfect mountain “Get away from it all” with environmentally friendly approach to all they do including the home grown and organic foods prepared in their own kitchens and gardens. We will be back. Jon N Kim

By far, this is one of the best B & B's! The history, the setting, the family/owners, the ambience, the FOOD made this one of the best retreats we have ever experienced. We stayed in several B&B's on this trip. This is a unique, historic place with lots of ambiance. It was by far, the most interesting overall. In addition, the members of this family run enterprise go out of their way (especially Sandra) to make sure their guests are well taken care of. Would definitely stay there again.

For our 10-year anniversary we stayed in the gazebo cottage and it was wonderful too. The breakfast that came with our room was so wonderful. The grits and breakfast casseroles were so delicious. My husband and I have been guests of the MFI several times and are never disappointed with any aspect of our stay. We have stayed in the Maple Spring Cottage all but once when it was otherwise booked. One of the things we enjoy most is the fact that our cell phones rarely work and there is no TV. There are so many wonderful experiences to be had in this world that we are not the types to keep returning to the same place over and over. We prefer trying new destinations, accommodations and restaurants. But Valle Crucis and the MFI nourish us and continue to draw us back.

I booked into the Mast Farm Inn and as many rooms were available they upgraded my stay to the Loom House (smart decision I'm now hooked) as this was closer to the main house. My Garmen gave me incorrect directions and upon calling they were kind enough to stay on the telephone with me to get to there as well as met me in the room to help settle me in quickly so I could get to my engagement on time, even drew a map. The breakfast was amazing and the room was unforgettable. I haven't enjoyed a business out of town trip in ages. Can't wait to come back.

The room was much larger than I anticipated, and it was very cozy. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was fantastic. We also had a great Shrimp & Grits dinner (for a great price) on Thursday at the Inn. All in all a great experience that I highly recommend for anyone looking for some time away from it all.

We were looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat from construction noise surrounding our home. We found it, and more! Sandra's warm greeting set the tone for a perfect stay. We loved the Blacksmith Shop, the quiet, the food, the service, the gracious attitude of everyone. We'll be back for sure. Thanks for such a wonderful stay!

What a fantastic place and a fantastic setting for a weekend...or full-week...getaway! The owners and staff could not be more accomodating and we HIGHLY recommend a visit to Valle Crucis and The Mast Farm Inn.

After looking at many Bed and Breakfasts online, I kept going back to The Mast Farm Inn. After our recent Wedding and Honeymoon there, I realized why. The Inn Keepers and staff of The Mast Farm Inn are absolutely amazing. We did not have to worry about any detail of our wedding except what to wear. The atmosphere in the Loom House was amazing and perfect for our very private and special ceremony. Even though Danielle was extremely busy in the restaurant, she made sure we had our evening meal on our wedding night in our cabin. Special touches like hot coffee and chocolate left by our door the next morning was so much appreciated. The food is outstanding. These ladies are very talented. I highly recommend The Mast Farm Inn if you want rest, privacy, good food, and to be treated like royalty. We intend to visit on our Anniversary every year. Thanks so much to everyone at The Mast Farm Inn for making our special day even more special.

We spent a four day family vacation at Mast Farm Inn to enjoy the Autumn in the high mountain of NC. It was our second stay. Autumn Foliage was not the only exquisite experience. Mast Farm Inn is a must destination for anyone searching for relaxation, great retreat, wonderful service and out of this world cuisine. Culinary experience at Mast Farm Inn is equal to any five star restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Peter & Fafie Frisch

We have been visiting the Mast Farm Inn for at least 22 years, and have just completed another stay. We always choose one of the "out buildings", in this case, the Blacksmith Shop. The Innkeepers are great as is the food and the service. It's the little things that count, and the little things at the Mast Farm Inn add up to a great value.

My daughter and her husband stayed at the Inn and loved it so much that she booked a two-night stay for her and for my husband and me. We loved it just as much as she did!!! The accommodations in the Woodwork Shop room were wonderfully rustic, the bed linens were fantastic, and the service was just outstanding! The breakfasts were SO delicious and had such a personal touch. We hope to come back next fall for a return stay at Valle Crucis! Thank you for making our vacation a dream come true!!

Delightful...another world away from the Wall Street madness and the world-wide malaise. Crisp nights, beautiful leaf colors, soft beds, quiet rooms, no TV, and some great old music to listen to. It doesn't get much better. The personal touch was everywhere. Sandra and her team are excellent. Don't miss this. You (like us) will want to return!

This is our second year coming to the Mast Farm Inn and to the Valle Crucis Fall Fair. What a combination! The Innkeepers are incredible, the food is some of the best we've ever had. Henry and his family do a superb job of taking care of you. Do yourself a favor and stop by, have lunch or dinner (make reservations) and see for yourself. And check out the Porsches :-).

We stayed at the Mast Farm Inn for 3 nights with our 2 children, ages 5 & 7. We had the Maple Spring cottage with 1 queen size bed in it's own room and a Murphy bed for the kids in the living room. We were all together, but not on top of eachother. The cottage was sweet and homey. The kids loved the outdoor hot tub the best! The staff was very accomodating to the children, anticipating they might not have the same taste in food and offered regular panckes and juice boxes. My husband and I, however, thought the breakfasts were out of this world! And the personalized menus were a fun, nice touch. The location was perfect- in between everything you'd want to get to in the mountains. We had the best weekend. We plan to come back again and again!

We really enjoyed our 2 nights. The food was wonderful and service exceptional. Felt like we had stepped back in time with no TV & no newspaper. As a couple, we really felt like we reconnected and have stronger bond. Plan to come back soon.

We recently stayed at the Mast Farm Inn for part of our motorcycle tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Originally, we only planned to stay for 2 nights. We crashed on the motorycle on our 2nd day. My husband had to be hospitalized for 2 days and then was not released to travel back home for 2 more days. The family and employees of Mast Farm Inn were so helpful to me during this time. If it wasn't for their support and help, I don't know what I would have done. They picked me up from the hospital after my husband was admitted, made breakfast 'to go' for me to take him in the hospital, constantly checked on his condition, helped load the crashed bike into our trailer, unhitched the trailer from our truck so that I could drive back to the hospital for visits and to pick him up. When he was discharged, they moved us to the 'Blacksmith Shop' because he could not climb stairs and the room served our needs the best for his recovery prior to traveling home. This family of innkeepers truly cares about making the experience of their guests the best it can be -- even in such extraordinary circumstances as we had. They went above and beyond our expectations of any B&B. We will definitely return again -- only without a motorcycle next time!

My husband & I were fortunate to be able to spend one night at the Inn. We've spent the last year "test driving" several bed & breakfast establishments across the US, and found the Mast Farm Inn to be one of our favorites. Sure wish we were able to stay longer ...

My husband and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary at the Mast Farm Inn. It was our first weekend getaway in over seven years, and our first stay at a B&B. Our expectations were extremely high, and The Mast Farm Inn exceeded them by a mile. The inn is located in a most idyllic spot. I was charmed by the Victorian architecture of the inn, and the beautiful old trees, patches of wildflowers, and mountain views that surround it. My husband was charmed by the nearby line of porsches, available for daily rentals through the inn. Upon arrival, we were upgraded (at no charge) to one of the inn’s cabins for our weekend stay. It allowed us exceptional privacy, and we were very comfortable in this cozy, rustic cabin. We enjoyed one dinner and two breakfasts during our stay. The food was plentiful, filling, and scrumptious. Most impressive was the chef’s conscientious effort to accommodate my severe allergy to nuts. She prepared my food separately and provided me with alternative dishes, when necessary. All of the staff at the Mast Farm Inn treated us just as well. They informed of us nearby outdoor activities to our liking and entertained us in the evenings with pleasant conversations on the inn’s wrap-around porch.

We truly had the most relaxing and enjoyable weekend possible at the Mast Farm Inn. The service was superb, beyond comparison. Our room was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated with attention given to the most minute detail. Then, to top off a wonderful day, our dinner was without doubt the best meal we have ever enjoyed, anywhere. We will most definitely return to enjoy another happy time at the marvelous Mast Farm Inn, and spend time with the very welcoming innkeepers. The experience can only be described as spectacular in ever respect. W & G

We will agree that the rooms are very lovely, and that breakfast was well prepared and presented. However, there were no special comforts provided; no snacks, no afternoon wine (unless you paid extra), not so much as a glass of cold water. By 7:30 PM none of the innkeepers was present. The second night, a bat was somehow able to get into the inn. Since no one else was on site, my husband and I separately called the innkeepers, who told us that someone would come by to remove the bat. We think someone came in several hours later, but no one informed us as to the status of the creature and so we remained prisoners in our room. We contacted the innkeepers by letter upon our arrival home, but have heard nothing in response.
Many of the reviews here speak of our natural generosity, and the great care we take in all things big and small. We hope you will read beyond here to other reviews which are a significantly more accurate reflection of our services and dedication. Dear Sadly Dissapointed, We have socials on weekends where we offer guests champagne, snacks, appetizers, often have live music etc... If a guest wants wine from the bar at other times it is room service and billed as we do not run an open bar for the inn guests. You had water and ice in your room, and there are always fresh baked items near the front desk. When you arrived, you did not have a reservation, as such nothing was prepared for your arrival. One of us is always here from 6AM-10PM 7 Days a Week. We had a family reunion to celebrate our son’s birth and baptism, knew that we would not present, and advised you of this before you checked-in. Because of that, and because you indicated you wanted a bargain, we offered you, at check-in, a 30% discount on our least expensive room and then offered you for that 30% discounted rate a free upgrade to any room; including the most expensive one at twice the price, which you selected. You paid $135 which included breakfast for two for a $259 room, yet you sent us a letter asking for a full refund. When you called about the bat, My husband & I were at the family gathering 30 minutes away. We sent someone who arrived in less than 10 minutes, and we left our reunion to arrive within 30 minutes. We heard the bat in the hall bathroom, removed it, saw your lights off and thought it best not to disturb you because we thought you were sleeping. While in the course of visiting anywhere something can go wrong, it is usually one thing; when we see a litany of complaints and a guest requests a full refund, in a context such as this, we do not provide one.

We dropped off our son at college and spent the night in the Cherry Room. It was a wonderful relaxing getaway for us. We loved walking through the garden and up to the pond. It was nice for us to connect again after all the "family" stress of moving a child off to college. I look forward to visiting again.

I stayed for a week in late July to early August, and had a wonderful time. The Inn is enchanting, and the owners and staff constantly provided exceptional service in a friendly and helpful way; they even went out of their way to help me resolve a problem with my car. The only thing I can't figure out is why they ask you how they can improve: everything is perfect!

The food is exquisite--fresh, innovative and yet so unpretensious. We stayed in the Gazebo Cottege--spacious and romantic, with a wonderful bed....and the outside spa added great romance to the weekend. I can't say enough about the attention to detail--from the daily personalized menus to the friendliness of everyone on staff. Thank you Henri and family, for a wonderful experience. We will be back! How can you say the Mast Inn will be your fondest memory of a vacation? Stay there and then you will drive 150 miles out of your way to return for one more night so you have fond memories of the area. We came to the Blue Ridge Mountains area for a week of Bed and Breakfast's so we could be pampered. Looking through sites we saw the Mast Farm Inn but did not plan on staying there as we thought we would not be near. But as circumstances had it we just stumbled by and asked if there were rooms available. Sandra kindly offered us a few possibilities and we immediately booked a room and made reservations for dinner. Dinner was SUPERB! The waitress was so pleasant and the food so good you wanted to lick your lips. When we had the choice of Desert the Tirasmu and Drunken Fruit Cake were delicious also. The room "Miss Allie" was spotless and enjoying the old magazines provided was a treat. The breakfast the next morning was so good that I had to tell my friend a caterer in Palm Beach about it. We left wishing we would have stayed longer. After having a bad experience in near by Blowing Rock the next day we ran away to a cabin in the mountains far away from the tourist trap place we stayed at in Blowing Rock. But we wanted GREAT food, a good bed , nice proprietors and an ending to a vacation that we would smile at. So we drove a circle of 150 miles to return to the Mast Farm Inn for a night before we had to fly back to the Bahamas. We were lucky to get the last room "The Woodworker Shop" and enjoyed another excellent dinner and breakfast. We so enjoyed visiting with everyone there that we felt like family. The service was the BEST we had in the area and the food was superb. Thank You to the entire staff at the Mast Farm Inn for making our vacation one to remember with joy and a reason to return. We will be back! Ginny & Richard

The innkeepers are just my style: laid back, gracious, and attentive. I guarantee if you stay two nights, you won't lallygag around in bed the second morning. Breakfast will be on your mind; they are great. I stayed in the Blacksmith Shop, which is very comfortable and roomy; relaxing quarters to read on a rain-dripping day.

My husband and I recently held our nuptials at the Mast Farm Inn. The setting for the ceremony was very romantic, in addition, our small guest list enabled us to dine privately within the Inn. We, as with our family and friends, received impeccable service and the food was incredible. The on-site cabins were perfect accommodations for larger families who joined us for the ceremony. Overall, we were very pleased with the entire weekend and can't wait to celebrate our first anniversary with a stay back a the Inn.

Being a frequent visitor of numerous Bed and Breakfast's all over the country, I knew the Mast Farm Inn would be special; however, it exceeded all of my expectations. I was upgraded "free of charge" to a cottage upon my arrival because the hostess thought I would really like it and it would be more private for my getaway. The food, friendliness, setting, and service all were outstanding.

Hi Sandra and Danielle and everyone else at the Inn that made our stay so remarkable, Tim and I cannot thankyou all enough for everything you did to make our stay the best it could be given the fact that Tim came down with the flu on tuesday. I cannot believe that you made us homemade chicken soup!!! How thoughtful was that. The fact that you had all our needs met with things for us to do when we got there was wonderful. I especially liked the little goody bag with homemade sugar cookies and candy and the cute bottles of wine. The brochures ear marked with ideas of things to do was great. And the breakfast every morning...OH MY GOSH... it was scrumptous!!! I looked forward to the coffee basket at my door every morning so I could enjoy a cup of coffe while getting ready. I could go on and on and believe me I have with all my friends since we have been back. I am already thinking about when we can come back again. We have stayed at alot of BandB's but this by far was the BEST!! TandD

I cannot wait to get back to this special place I never even new existed! Valle Crucis is absolutely charming...and Mast Farm Inn even more so! For some reason, it makes you feel as though you've "come back home" to this place, and the visit is too short. It's the whole package... for relaxing, re-connecting, and recharging your batteries. The hospitality is outstanding, and at the same time seems effortless. Sandra and family know how to do it! Compliments to the kitchen! The dining experience is an affordable luxury; fresh, organic, and truly gourmet without being pretentious. We will be back, and take a Porshe for a spin!

My husband and I, along with our ten year old son, stayed at the Mast Farm Inn the weekend of February 8, 2008. We were in desperate need of some time away from our normal schedules and routines. The service, food, and accomodations at the Mast Farm Inn were absolutely delightful, and we will definitely return. We live in Charlotte, and our stay at Mast Farm was like taking a step back in time, but with every comfort of home--minus the TV and computer. We were originally booked in the Blacksmith Shop, but were upgraded to the Granary, a larger cottage. Since we were traveling with our son, it was great to have the additional space, common area, and privacy. We had dinner at the inn on Friday night, and although the meal was not inexpensive, the food was fresh and very well prepared. It put me in mind of a wonderful home cooked meal. The inn also has a really good selection of beer and wine. The atmosphere and service at dinner were also delightful. The breakfasts at the inn was just as good. The food was excellent, and the breakfasts were substantial enough to hold us though the entire day. Without being asked, our server made some adjustments to our son's breakfasts that she thought he would appreciate--and sure enough, she got it right on the money.

Well, I wasn't trully eager for anyone to wake me if it was a dream. My husband and I were given the weekend for Christmas '07 and unable to go before now. It was such a blessing for us to be alone and reconnect. Every aspect of our stay was personalized even down to the menus for dinner. The food was amazing--gourmet, healthy and so fresh. They paid attention to allergies I had and made chocolate cake without nuts just for me! We were always greeted by the inn keepers and staff with smiles. There was such a warm family atmosphere. I can't express how fantastic it was for this mom of four to spend 3 days without making a bed, preparing a meal or worrying over laundry. We felt right at home in the WoodWork Shop- had no trouble slipping right into those high thread-count sheets and cover up with the softest down comforter. Oh, there is really to much to mention. We had such a wonderful time falling in love again with each other and with this new beautiful piece of heaven on earth.

This was our second time to the Mast Farm Inn and we will be back next year. We stayed in the Woodwork Shop and loved everything. Sandra, her family, and staff worked very hard to make our stay feel so relaxed and enjoyable. For instance, my husband is very simple when it comes to food and even though the breakfast was phenomenal he just didn't want to try new things, so the staff offered to fix him a plain breakfast (they even put this on file for our next visit). Don't forget to visit with Mr. Henri over at the Granery and check out the fleet of Porsche cars. He was so sweet to take the time to chat with us, even though we didn't rent one of the cars (maybe next time). One word describes our weekend...Perfection! Perfect location, Perfect accomadations, Perfect Food, and Perfect People that we now call friends!

We needed a quick weekend getaway and The Mast Farm Inn provided us the peprfect place. Being just two hours from Charlotte, NC, enabled us to get there early enough on Friday to check in, enjoy dinner and enjoy a peaceful night of sleep. We stayed in the main house, Miss Allie's room. Each morning we were left a coffee basket outside our door to help get us started for the day. A nice touch. The first day we did not leave the room until late in the afternoon. We talked to each other, read books and magazines, napped and finally bathed and showered. There were no interuptions from our two big dogs or any other of life's special events. Our friends joined us for dinner Saturday night and the dinner was exquisite. The menu is specially amde for each evening and includes the guests as part of the fare. If you do not like the idea of being in the main house, there are also some of the original buildings available for your own separate entity. The food, service and atmosphere provided by this family run inn is just top notch.

Breakfast was also wonderful-hopefully when you come they will have the oatmeal with the cherry sauce!

This is a very nicely restored farm with beautifully appointed rooms. However, there are a few bumps in the road. The evening dining hours are limited and non-existent on certain days. Its easy to make a reservation and not realize this fact. The nearest place to eat is then several miles away. The directions we got from the staff were vague and so we had difficulty finding their recommendation. Breakfast is a one option affair that was decidely odd. Good coffee and a single pastry, followed by a strange omelette with corn and covered in a ? sauce. All of it somewhat cool. Just edible. This was accompanied on the same plate with a piece of fried bratwurst. Strange and inedible by my standards. I asked for and got a single additional biscuit which was good. Jam was not homemade but from the usual single serve plastic. So all in all, quite a mixed review. Dr RH

We stayed in the Loom House, a log cabin set next to the main house. With a fire in the fireplace and the cozy bed upstairs, it was a wonderful setting for our anniversary. The old cabin is very historic and is purported to be the oldest house in the county. We dined at the restaurant, sitting outside in the garden. Breakfast in the dining room was wonderful. The barn across the street was the setting for some live mountain music at night, with wine served at the rustic outdoor bar. What a great surprise that was! Overall, it was a very memorable experience.
