A Runner's Review of the Lazy Bear Lodge

    May 08, 2013

When I signed up for the New River Half Marathon in Todd NC, I began searching for a room for the few days I planned to be in the area. After looking at a few local hotels, I went to Bed and Breakfast.com and found Lazy Bear Lodge in Valle Crucis NC. After reading the reviews, I reserved a room for a few days and sent Anne Winkelman, the owner, an email with a few questions about my visit, which she responded to promptly. Anne and her assistant Tracy, were exceptional hosts. She allowed me full access to her kitchen the morning of the race (I needed to be up by 5 am) and treated us like family. While I went off to race, my wife enjoyed breakfast, the fireplace, and the company. Instead of having to head back to an impersonal hotel, I was able to relax and recouperate in a beautiful lodge. Tracy even made our reservations at a good restaurant for the evening! The breakfast was excellent the next morning and while we ate, Anne showed off her well trained dog Bella doing a few tricks :-) ! The lodge and the view are just as pictured! Anne and Mark are great hosts! Go treat yourself with a visit to the Laxy Bear Lodge! You'll love it!

    Truly a one-of-a-kind place!

    May 02, 2013

The Lazy Bear Lodge has outstanding and exceptional accommodations, services and breakfasts. Our hosts were very knowledgeable of the area and gave great suggestions for things-to-do and dining venues. We also enjoyed a couples massage - it was nice to be able retreat right to our room afterwards. We had a much needed relaxing getaway to the mountains. And we loved every minute of our stay - will return again!

This is an exceptional B&B. The hosts are genuuine, warm, welcoming people..They have created a perfect environment. Beautiful decor, comfortable atmosphere..the location is breathtaking. Their breakfasts can rival any first class hotel. They recommend places to dine, hike, shop....you name it. They also have a spa salon on premises where you can really relax during a professional massage.

    Great B and B

    March 30, 2013

I have been to Lazy Bear on numerous occasions, and every time my stay has been outstanding. The owners could not be more delightful or helpful. Each room has special qualities. I wouldn't recommend one over the other. The breakfast...I just can't say enough about it. It's delicious! Also, you have a beautiful view of the mountains. The front porch looks out on a bubbling brook and towering trees. You can rock in the rocking chairs or sway on the porch swing. This stay gets an A+!

    Magical Getaway

    March 24, 2013

Lazy Bear Lodge was the perfect retreat for my husband and I before he shipped out to Afghanistan. The whole place was so peaceful, and our darling innkeeper Anne made sure we were comfortable and always had directions to anywhere we wanted to go in the local area. And the breakfasts! So delicious with lots of atmosphere. And don't forget Lazy Bear's official furry greeters - two large, friendly dogs with lots of love to share (miss you already, Bella and Bo!) With a stone fireplace in the large living room and gas stove in each bedroom, we were always cozy when tucked away inside this Bed and Breakfast, despite the cold temps outside, and even some beautiful snow. My husband and I dream of returning to Lazy Bear someday soon.

As always we had a wonderful experience at the Lazy Bear Lodge. Breakfast was outstanding both mornings, the room was clean, comfy and rustic. The views are always beautiful, even from the 1st floor bedroom.
