Bottom Line Up Front: Anne and Mark were terrific hosts, the room was superb and the breakfast was fantastic. We have been to a number of B&Bs throughout the country over the years and this was the one we would most like to revisit. As a matter of fact, we already have another reservation.

We only stayed at Lazy Bear Lodge one night and definitely wish it was alot longer. We stayed there to see the fall colors which we missed by two weeks but the view was beautiful regardless. We were the only ones staying at the Inn that evening as it is their slower season, but Anne was a most gracious host and even gave a full tour and let us pick a different room. All the rooms are outstanding and the pictures we saw on the web don't do them justice. The beds are all firm and quite comfortable, the rooms are immaculate and the atmosphere is homey and welcoming. Bo and Bella are great company, especially if you are dog lovers like we are and missing our dog back home. Breakfast was made to order and delicious. The entire facility is well kept and cared for. They even have a store in the lobby which has specialty items and well worth a look. We appreciated the hospitality from the second we got there, until the moment we left. Anne even suggested a great restaurant for us to try in Boone and we were very pleased with it. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely make time to stay at Lazy Bear Lodge.

I loved this place, the warm welcome from Anne and her family, the ambience, the location, and the standard of lodging and food. It's the sort of place you can just sit and drink in the surroundings. As I don't live in the USA I shall have to be content to imagining myself back there often. I hope to visit again one day.

quick little trip to do some wine tasting and just relax. Had a great time and loved the lodge.
5 on October 07, 2013
The Lazy Bear Lodge is truly a mountain jewel. The owners could not be more obliging. They make one part of their family immediately--nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to anticipate every want or need. They are a remarkable pair. The grounds and lodge are gorgeous.

I took my daughter to the Lazy Bear to de-stress for just one night. What a glorious night it was! The view was astounding. Anne, the owner, was gracious and well, amazing. We loved our time there; did not want to leave; and definitely will go back. I highly recommend this B & B to anyone seeking serenity.

Stayed in the Lost Creek room. Comfortable bed. All very clean. Private balcony porch overlooking gorgeous mountains. Great breakfast served by friendly and welcoming hosts. Private and quiet. Lodge ambience of antiques with good photo opportunities. Would stay here again - same room. Can't wait 'til next year! Thank you Anne, Mark, Tracy, Bella, and Beau. We stayed in August...October leaves must be incredible!

The experience at the Lazy Bear Lodge melds together to create the perfect relaxing getaway. The gardens and fish pond are a treat as well as the deer, birds and squirrels. The view of the sunset and the foggy blue ridge in the morning were awe inspiring. The rooms are perfectly appointed. The breakfast is the best you will ever have. It's the kind of place you just don't want to leave.

Breakfast was wonderful and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. The room was very cozy and the bathroom was quite nice. My only negative was the TV in the room was incredibly small.

The room was very comfortable. The two large furry Inn keepers Bow and Bella were a delight. The wildlife out on the back deck was fun to watch. The breakfasts were delicious. Close enough to towns for convenient dining and hiking but in a very natural country setting.

We stayed 1 night in the Black Bear room on the main floor off of the great room. the room is spacious with adequate seating, the bathroom was large and comfortable although there is only 1 sink and vanity. it was nice to have our room open onto the main deck. they have installed a small chain to keep the other guests from wandering over right in front of this room's sliding glass door, but we could remove the chain and sit anywhere on the main deck. breakfast was freshly made and deliscous. we ate dinner up the road at Simplicity and their food was amazing. we had a wonderful stay at the Lazy Bear.

Absolutely loved the Lazy Bear Lodge - Anne was extremely accomodating in setting up an anniversary surprise and the accomodations were wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a more relaxing setting. Breakfast was superb. Definitely plan to visit again in the future. Highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

We enjoyed our stay at the Lazy Bear Lodge. Anne was a gracious hostess, and we enjoyed chatting with her on the deck in the evening. We also loved meeting Bella and Bo! The view is lovely, and the breakfasts were very good. My husband and I especially appreciated the option of a typical breakfast consisting of eggs (fixed your way) bacon or sausage, toast or English muffin, and grits or home fries (I think!!!) There was a nice little plate of fresh fruit on our table each morning and we had several types of juice to choose from. There was also a dessert and coffee in the dining room for evening snacks. Anne and Tracy were very helpful with suggestions for sightseeing and printed directions to several places for us. One suggestion would be a better TV in the upstairs bedroom where we stayed. It was only a 13 inch and difficult to see! The driveway up to the lodge is very narrow and curvy and we found it quite scary coming back to the lodge on a dark, rainy night. Thankfully they do have some lighting along the drive. We are glad to have found Lazy Bear Lodge and have already discussed when we can return. We will definitely be back and I think we've found our go-to mountain getaway!

A gift from my sister that we loved! The setting was beautiful, the best of any bed and bread and breakfast we have been to.
5 on May 30, 2013
We made a last minute decision to get away for the weekend over Memorial Day weekend. The whole place was fabulous! You can tell that this entire property was built with Bed and Breakfast in mind. And the food wasn't too exotic for my taste either. Only thing, if you don't like dogs...you'll probably not like this place as their two dogs are a part of the family too.

When I signed up for the New River Half Marathon in Todd NC, I began searching for a room for the few days I planned to be in the area. After looking at a few local hotels, I went to Bed and Breakfast.com and found Lazy Bear Lodge in Valle Crucis NC. After reading the reviews, I reserved a room for a few days and sent Anne Winkelman, the owner, an email with a few questions about my visit, which she responded to promptly. Anne and her assistant Tracy, were exceptional hosts. She allowed me full access to her kitchen the morning of the race (I needed to be up by 5 am) and treated us like family. While I went off to race, my wife enjoyed breakfast, the fireplace, and the company. Instead of having to head back to an impersonal hotel, I was able to relax and recouperate in a beautiful lodge. Tracy even made our reservations at a good restaurant for the evening! The breakfast was excellent the next morning and while we ate, Anne showed off her well trained dog Bella doing a few tricks :-) ! The lodge and the view are just as pictured! Anne and Mark are great hosts! Go treat yourself with a visit to the Laxy Bear Lodge! You'll love it!

The Lazy Bear Lodge has outstanding and exceptional accommodations, services and breakfasts. Our hosts were very knowledgeable of the area and gave great suggestions for things-to-do and dining venues. We also enjoyed a couples massage - it was nice to be able retreat right to our room afterwards. We had a much needed relaxing getaway to the mountains. And we loved every minute of our stay - will return again!

This is an exceptional B&B. The hosts are genuuine, warm, welcoming people..They have created a perfect environment. Beautiful decor, comfortable atmosphere..the location is breathtaking. Their breakfasts can rival any first class hotel. They recommend places to dine, hike, shop....you name it. They also have a spa salon on premises where you can really relax during a professional massage.

I have been to Lazy Bear on numerous occasions, and every time my stay has been outstanding. The owners could not be more delightful or helpful. Each room has special qualities. I wouldn't recommend one over the other. The breakfast...I just can't say enough about it. It's delicious! Also, you have a beautiful view of the mountains. The front porch looks out on a bubbling brook and towering trees. You can rock in the rocking chairs or sway on the porch swing. This stay gets an A+!

Lazy Bear Lodge was the perfect retreat for my husband and I before he shipped out to Afghanistan. The whole place was so peaceful, and our darling innkeeper Anne made sure we were comfortable and always had directions to anywhere we wanted to go in the local area. And the breakfasts! So delicious with lots of atmosphere. And don't forget Lazy Bear's official furry greeters - two large, friendly dogs with lots of love to share (miss you already, Bella and Bo!) With a stone fireplace in the large living room and gas stove in each bedroom, we were always cozy when tucked away inside this Bed and Breakfast, despite the cold temps outside, and even some beautiful snow. My husband and I dream of returning to Lazy Bear someday soon.

Staying with Anne and Mark is lovely, homey and relaxing. Out of the way and up on a hill you feel like you're in a remote location but the drive into town is less than 10 minutes. The huge windows and lodge feel are inviting. the resident dogs are a sweet addition for animal lovers. We will return.

Lazy Bear Lodge is a wonderful place to visit. The scenery is spectacular. The food is delicious. Sitting by the fireplace in the living room and dining room was perfect on a cold morning or evening. Anne and her staff are very friendly and accommodating. We needed to check out early and Anne made sure we were served breakfast earlier than usual. You must love dogs to stay here! Bo and Bella are delightful if you are a dog lover and we are. If you are a bird watcher this is the place for you. All kinds of birds feeding on the deck. Deer early in the morning feeding below the porch. I can't say enough good things. We will be back for another visit.

My husband and I originally booked a trip at another resort in West Virginia to spend our 2nd wedding anniversary/ babymoon (we're expecting our first in February). Well, that place didn't work out even before our arrival and unfortunately we lost $200 in chosing to book at Lazy Bear, as we had to forfeit our deposit at the other place... SO GLAD WE DID. Ann & Mark truly care about your comfort during your stay in their home, and it truly feels like you're at home when you stay with them. It snowed the whole time, and the first night they prepared a fabulous dinner of spaghetti and meatballs with salad at no charge due to the weather... most places wouldn't have cared or would've charged a butt-load for the additional service. Not them. One night, we were out and were held up due to a wreck so I called Ann to let her know we'd be in a little later and it was like calling my mom, she was genuinely concerned with our well-being and would've come and got us if need be!! They treated us just like family. They have 2 of the sweetest dogs ever, made me miss my puppies even more!! That Bobo is just precious, and Bella is smart as can be!! We loved it there (and I am NOT a mountain person) but I will be going back to visit!! Lazy Bear will most likely be our "anniversary spot" for a long time!!! Thanks Ann and Mark again for everything!!!

Most beautiful house with a gorgeous view of the mountains I've yet come across. Anne is so welcoming and genuinely cares about her guests. The dogs were so funny and had so much personality! Anne I'll be sending you a few photos of Bo that I think you'll really enjoy. Over all the best B&B we've ever been to. Will definitely be back again.

We only had one night at Lazy Bear Lodge and would have loved to stay longer. The lodge is located in quiet nature with stunning views on the mountains. The interior is breathtaking and you feel right at home as soon as you enter the lodge. The rooms provide for everything you need and the bed was very comfy. This was truly a memorable stay and we thank our wonderful host Anne for the great time we had at Lazy Bear Lodge.

This B&B was highly recommended to us and we now know why. A wonderful home with attention to every detail. We loved the rustic "Adirondack" style and the amazing views. The best part as we felt far away from everything but were really close to Boone. The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful in planning our activities.

Thanks Anne for everything you did to make our trip seem like a story book dream. Thanks for the photo's of us with Bo. We got a room for my Mother also so she could forgrt my Dad's passinf a few months ago and the love of her life. She felt like she was almost in heaven. She enjoyed both nights we stayed. We took her shoping in Boone, Blowing rock and your gift shop. She told us she really enjoyed talking with Anne. Thanks again for the unforgottable time we all had. We can't wait to came back. Until then we can only dream of your place and the fantastic views and times we had.

My wife is a lot harder to please than I, and she loved it too. The breakfasts were excellent, with enough choices to suit me just fine. Also, I have been suffering a bit from low back pain. Just so happens, The Lazy Bear has two excellent certified massage therapists on call. I booked my very first massage and it was well worth it. But, the real standout qualities of this B&B were not physical at all. The genuine hospitality of Ann and Mark is the reason I can't give the Lazy Bear Lodge anything below 5 Stars.

We stayed at the Lazy Bear Lodge for two nights in August, and very much enjoyed so much about the place. Our room was wonderful, with the private deck overlooking the trees and grounds, and the personal propane heater/stove in the room. The breakfast was wonderful, too. The owners leave out cookies, coffee, and pie in the dining room, for customers to help themselves at any time. The owners also gave us hiking trail directions, ready to print off, and they have menus on hand from all surrounding area restaurants, which was helpful. The lodge doesn't exactly look the way it does in the picture, because the trees and shrubs have grown over and cover most of the front of the house, but it's still a beautiful walk up to the home, and the size of the fish in the koi pond is just amazing. A very relaxing place!
5 on August 24, 2012
This was our second stay at Lazy Bear, and we'll definitely go again. Beautiful views, wonderful room and great food . Anne and Mark couldn't be nicer. Even their 2 dogs are great hosts - like 2 giant teddy bears.
5 on August 22, 2012
We had not stayed in a B&B in over 20 years. We chose the Lazy Bear Lodge off the internet after reading the reviews and looking at the website (and the websites of competitors). We were not disappointed. We chose this B&B for our 40th anniversary weekend and we could not have had a nicer weekend. The accommodations were super comfortable, the hospitality of the owners was wonderful, the two homemade breakfasts we had were delightful, and of course the scenery - stunning. It was an incredibly relaxing weekend and we felt pampered. We will be return customers!

We enjoyed a everything from the log cabin feel, to the cozy bed and room, and of course the wonderful breakfast. Our room was very comfortable and we loved sitting on the porch watching the fog roll over the mountain side in the morning. The owner is welcoming and helpful. You will not regret this quiet lovely treat.

This was our first visit to Lazy Bear Lodge, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The lodge is wonderfully decorated and so peaceful. The owners Anne and Mark are so courteous and welcoming! We had our own deck on the top floor, where we enjoyed the mountain views as we sipped our coffee. The rooms are so clean and Anne adds so many wonderful touches, such as hand made soaps. We enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast as we sat out on the large deck, watching all the wildlife. I look forward to booking a room this fall and would highly recommend Lazy Bear Lodge!

On a whim we decided to go somewhere cooler on July 5th and found Lazy Bear online. The website was great, but NOTHING could have adequately described the experience. The Lodge is simply put GORGEOUS. We were welcomed with open arms. From sitting on the porch in the evening watching the wildlife with a wonderful view of the mountains, to a restful sleep on one of the best beds ever, to breakfast on the porch, to the warmth and hospitality of our hostess, Anne... I could go on! We hiked to exhaustion and rested to perfection!

Lazy Bear Lodge has got to be one of the most picturesque, beautiful mountain B&Bs in the region. We came back due our wonderful first visit and the owners provided another delightful experience. They were also kind enough to allow our college-aged children who live elsewhere in the area to join us for breakfast at no additional charge. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated; the lush gardens peaking with flowers and comfortable outdoor seating areas. Can't wait to come back again!

This custom-built BB is a first class retreat from the real world. The setting is very secluded and the views are spectacular. You could be a thousand miles from no-where, but you are actually 5 minutes from the heart of one of the great university towns of the nation, in the midst of the scenic North Carolina high country. From the back deck you can probably see for twenty miles and the nearest house you can see is miles away. Definitely will go back.

5 on May 23, 2012
We felt like we were staying with old friends with Anne, she was so warm and hospitable. The lodge is set on the edge of the mountains, so the views from our room (first floor) and common areas are terrific. I loved the log cabin decor and so did my husband. Anne pointed out a migratory grosbeak at the bird feeder and I saw several woodpeckers. We didn't see the flying squirrels, but other guests did. The dogs are laidback and not intrusive. We'll be back!
5 on May 22, 2012
The Lazy Bear Lodge has everything that we could wish for in a B&B: delicious breakfasts, a friendly and efficient owner with two very capable assistants, a wooded and mountain setting with wonderful views of mountain ridges and valleys, spacious and comfortable guest rooms, a well landscaped area around the lodge with a small waterfall and a koi pond, lots of birds and other critters (including some little red squirrels that we don’t see in Charlotte), and even two large dogs who act as official greeters and give the place a feeling of home. We stayed in the Lost Creek Room because it has a private porch with the best mountain view, but all five rooms have something to recommend them. The lodge is convenient to Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but we almost didn’t want to leave the premises. We will definitely return to the Lazy Bear soon!
5 on May 16, 2012
I HIGHLY recommend this B&B. This was our second stay and we have reservations to take our friends with us in September. We love it so much we plan on making it a yearly trip. The views are breathtaking, the rooms are beautifully decorated, the breakfast is scrumptious and Anne&Mark couldn't be more wonderful. Plus a real perk for my husband and I are their sweet dogs Bo and Bella. What a wonderful thing to spend a weekend with the Windleman family in this beautiful home and surroundings. And, I mean it, you feel like your home in the wonderful Blue Ridge Mountains! Please go and enjoy!!!!

This Bed and Breakfast was the best I have ever stayed at. Our room was cozy and clean-the whole place had a very homey feel to it. It was my birthday and Anne made a cake just for me-she is very sweet and a excellent cook along with her husband Mark as well. The dogs Bella and Bo are the sweetest dogs and they will do tricks for you for a yummy treat. We would highly recommend staying here and we look forward to our next visit.

Only had the opportunity to enjoy this B&B for one night, but it was a welcoming experience! Anne offered to help with suggestions for things to do in the area, helped steer us to a wonderful place for dinner and lined us up with reservations on short notice. The porch and wildlife watching was perfect. I only wish we had been there a little later in the season to see all the clematis vines in bloom. the grounds are beautiful. Loved getting snuggles from Bella and Bo. Breakfast was delish! 2 scrumptious options, wonderful juices, fresh fruit...mmmm, ready for another trip!

We stayed two nights at the lodge, and was highly impressed with how the place looked, outstanding staff/owners, and the views from all rooms in the lodge. We have spent time at other Bed & Breakfasts in the past, and we found this lodge to be the best so far. If we go back to that area, we will stay there again.

We stayed at the Lazy Bear for a spring weekend trip. The view was amazing, rooms spacious and comfortable, and food good. We really enjoyed our stay except for the 2 large dogs rolling in the dining room floor and going into the kitchen while breakfast was being made. One of the dogs even put her head on our table. We were told in advance the dogs were there, but were assured they did not enter certain common areas.

We had a great time. Lazy Bear Lodge is a wonderful rustic log cabin escape in the mountains with fantastic views... and we even got snow while we were there. A 4 wheel or front wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended if snow or ice is in the forecast! The owners (and dogs) were very friendly and the service and food was great.

My husband surprised me with a birthday weekend getaway. We had a wonderful experience. If I could sum it up in one word it would be cozy. The bed, blankets, fireplaces, robes, towels, and surroundings all make you feel at home and amazingly comfortable. We have already recommended Lazy Bear to several people.

Have stayed here many times and always have the same excellent experience. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else, I’m afraid this place has spoiled me. The Breakfast is always amazing; the rooms are always clean, cozy (fireplaces/ Jacuzzi tubs) and so relaxing. The beds are so comfortable you’ll sleep forever if you want to. There is a huge deck with a wonderful mtn view where you can sit for hours drinking coffee. You can spend all day just sitting by the fire place in the main room it’s so peaceful. Every time I go there I wish I could stay longer. Anne and Mark are so accommodating everything from getting you set up with dinner plans, local attractions, restaurants and directions. After you stay there you’ll feel like they are old friends you’ve known forever. Can’t wait to go back...

The Lazy Bear Lodge is a great place to stay. Not only for the relaxation, but for the great food, hospitality, and privacy (didn't hear anything out of the other 3 couples, except at breakfast). We stayed in the Garden Room, it didn't have a long-range mountain view, but a great view of the front gardens and loved falling asleep to the waterfall. We will be going back again.

The property was beautiful. Anne and Mark were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. Annes knowledge of the area and her great directions made traveling to our chosen points of interest very easy, and her caring manner was apparent in everything she did during our stay. Mark's breakfast was delicious, and the coffee (an important factor for me) was excellent. The room was spotless, and accoutered in a very comfortable manner. As a matter of fact, "comfortable" pretty much sums up our experience at the Lodge. I have no hesitation recommending the Lodge to our friends who are looking for a quality B&B in the NC mountains. We WILL be back. Thank you Mark and Anne Steve O., Fayetteville, NC

Amazing views overlooking valley from balconies. We stayed in room with two queen beds - comfy and cozy. Arrive early so you can enjoy the peaceful, beautiful surroundings. The driveway is a bit twisty after dark, but we were met by deer at every turn! Delicious breakfast and good service. A little pricey for a week day night - $180 including taxes for two people - it is a place where we would enjoy spending more time.

So fortunate that I found the Lazy Bear Lodge and they had a last minute cancellation. My husband and I are expecting our first baby in just 3 weeks and wanted to get away one last time and continue our mountain tree cutting tradition before the baby arrived. What a spectacular place, relaxing, warm and friendly. We actually started a new tradition-make a weekend out of it and will definitely be back!

Lazy Bear is remote enough to be quiet and relaxing, but not too far from town to enjoy a night out. Great views from the back deck, plenty of amenities, friendly hosts and staff. My wife and I have stayed at several B&Bs in Boone, and this is a place that we will return.
5 on November 01, 2011
wow what a place to stay very quiet, peaceful the breakfast tasted like a trained chef cooked it, but ann said she was not formally trained!, it is a bit far to get to up a mountain and all BUT worth the trip!! bella and bo were the dogs are super friendly sara and ann are super nice the peddeler steak house is excellent steak. we had a small billing error and i was blown away by how anne handled it we were put on speaker phone(NOT HOLD mind you) while she immediatly called the credit card company and resolved the issue then she called the next morning just to be sure everything was setteled properly and the correct charged were applied, WOW WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE,that means so much to us that next year we originally were planning on staying closer to ralaigh BUT now we are planning the trip to include our stay at the lazy bear only! and every year we go back down to the carolinas we are staying at lazy bear, i don't think we will stay anywhere else.anne even held the kitchen open just for us on our first morning there because we overslept, i am sorry we dissapointed her when we didn't eat breakfast there our first morning because we wanted to get to see the city of charlotte.

The B&B is conveniently located to local attractions, particularly terrific hiking spots. It is also close to some really incredible restaurants. Would definitely go back and stay here again.

A great getaway. Close enough to Boone and Banner Elk to venture out for supper later in the day, but tucked away in the NC mountains for a quiet, peaceful, restful vacation. The made to order breakfasts downstairs are a great way to start your day. Then ask Ann for directions to all kinds of places to explore very close by. Crab Orchard Falls is less than 5 minutes away and is an amazing waterfall, within only a 1/2 mile hike. Definitely somewhere we'll getaway to again!

The best vacation experience we have had in years. The Lodge is the perfect enivroment for a cozy, romantic get-away. The lodge itself is rustice and surrounded by nature but the best part is the Inn Keeper. She took care of our needs without needing to ask, the breakfast was fabulous and the pets were a part of the show. Will return soon.

I cannot say enough good things about this B&B. We were greeted before we even got inside the door by Bo, Bella, and Anne, which was a pleasant surprise. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and we loved the Koi fish pond and the wire art. The view was breathtaking. The breakfast was very good. Anne was such a delight and had the cutest personality. Thank you for a wonderful memorable stay. We will definitely be back! :)

The Lazy Bear lodge is near Valle Crucis and is secluded away from all of the highway traffic noise. Anne and her two dogs gave us a welcomed and she then gave us a helpful walk-through showing us all of the amenities of the house and our room. The view from the back deck was spectacular. Anne feeds the red squirrels which are right at the edge of the deck, the deer, and has a coy pond in front. Their two dogs, Bela and Beau are very friendly and are adorable. They add to the home hospitality. There were at least 3 other couples staying there and it didn't feel crowded at all. The breakfast menu is flexible and delicious. The room, garden view was spacious, well decorated, and included a king bed, a shower, and a jet tub. Don't think twice about staying at the Lazy Bear Lodge. We definitely plan on coming back.

My husband and I absolutely loved this lodge! The owners Anne and Mark are so friendly and accommodating. The room we stayed in had a private balcony with stunning views of Grandfather mountain and the valley below. In the morning we saw fawns and in the evening flying squirrels! Their two big dogs Bella and Bobo are so gentle and friendly. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were so yummy. We had blueberry pancakes one morning and stuffed french toast the next. Located in Valle Crucis, the lodge is a great half way point between Boone and Blowing Rock. We will definitely stay again! Loved it!!!

We had a great time at the Lazy Bear Lodge. We arrived a little late but that was not an issue for Anne or Mark. We enjoyed wonderful breakfasts on the deck. We did not stay long at the Lodge as we were going to Bristol for the race on Saturday. They helped us with directions and shortcuts. The stay was too short. We hope to visit again.

We had a beautiful 22nd anniversary get away at the Lazy Bear. The view was breathtaking, location was perfect, and you could see that the owner put so much of her heart into everything at this B & B. The only negative thing was that the window fell out of it's socket while my husband tried to close it so the window banged my husband's head.

My husband and I have just recently starting going to bed and breadfast just to get away from mid life stresses, such as grandchildren on weekends, which we absolutely love but can be very exhausting. It all started last year with a trip to Pennsylvania. That was our first experience. The rooms were outstanding and the privacy was wonderful at the Lazy Bear Lodge. Clean rates high with me and it was very clean. When we got there we didn't want to go out for dinner so Anne called a restaurant and we had it catered to us. We were just content to be there and enjoy our time relaxing. The large front porch was great with the flower garden there to intertain us. The large back deck was so relaxing with the mountains to view. The squirrels and birds were very intertaining. The breakfast was delicious and cant wait til December to go back for another meal, hopefully french toast this time. We brought back a part of our stay from the Lazy Bear Lodge with mugs we purchased in their gift store. Also homemade soap. We are going again and probably it will be an ongoing event.

We really enjoyed our stay. All of the staff at Lazy bear Lodge were very kind and helpful. They helped us make reservations, find great restautants, and find fun things to do. The lodge was such a relaxing place. It was beautiful both inside and out. Our breakfast was excellent and there was a choice of food each day. We definately want to go back again on future vacations. We would recommend Lazy Bear Lodge to anyone who wants a quiet and peaceful gettaway in the mountains. Kim and Perry

Just returned a couple weeks ago from a wonderful stay at the Lazy Bear Lodge. This was a family trip with our two teenage sons, 19 and 16. It was the perfect choice for our family, and we were extremely pleased with our time there. From the moment we arrived and met Ann, Bo and Bella, we felt welcomed, comfortable and very much at home. Ann was so thoughtful and went out of her way to accomodate us. We appreciated her help in deciding where to go, getting directions, etc. The breakfasts, which we enjoyed on the deck, were delicious, and although some people might not appreciate the dogs being so close around while you were eating, we loved it! In fact, Bo and Bella were part of the reason we thought the Lazy Bear was the place for us, as we are dog lovers! They are huge, friendly and very well behaved dogs. The location of the lodge was perfect for us, as well. We were 15 minutes from Appalachian State University campus, 30 minutes from Blowing Rock, and not too far from Grandfather Mountain. Just the right combination of a mountain hideaway that's still convenient for nearby activites. The weather was near perfect while we were there with daytime highs in the low to mid 80's and much cooler at nights. We also enjoyed meeting the other guests there...some really nice people. Terrific place to stay! Wonderful hostess! We loved the area and the mountains!

Our recent stay surpassed our expectations. What a view! We felt like we were in a mountain tree house filled with every variety of woodpecker. Anne was an incredible host. Nightly cookies, brownies, and apple pie were delicious! Her sightseeing and restaurant recommendations made for a perfect 4 day getaway. We highly recommend the Lazy Bear Lodge and hope to visit with her again.

Lazy Bear Lodge is a real gem! It's a beautiful facility with large, well-appointed rooms. You might not spend much time inside since there is an enormous back porch with a view of the mountains and wildlife. We enjoyed watching the little squirrels come to the feeders, especially the flying squirrels in the evening. Anne Winkelman and the staff were great - they made us feel right at home. It's a short drive to Boone and Blowing Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway for dining and hiking.

we just returned from a stay at the Lazy Bear Lodge. The accomodations were excellent, clean and the towels and sheets were better than at a first class hotel. The views were stunning. The hospitality of Anne and Mark were second to none. They made you feel like you were staying at your home and not in a lodge.

What a great way to spend a couple of days! The lodge is great and Anne is an incredible hostess. She is warm and friendly and makes you feel at home. Several other patrons were return guests and were very friendly as well. I was loking forward to a balcony room but we booked to late. As it turned out, I'm glad it worked out that way. We stayed in the Garden Room, opend the windows and enjoyed sounds of the waterfall overnight. We'll stay again!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and LOVED every minute of it! The bed and breakfast is breathtakingly beautiful! The views our spectacular! The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautiful! Everything is VERY clean and well kept. The owner, Anne is such a sweetheart! She works hard to make you feel welcome and makes sure your stay is wonderful. The stuffed cream cheese french toast she fixes for breakfast sometimes is to die for!! It is the BEST breakfast I have ever had! The B&B is conveniently located to Boone and other places to visit during the day, and our favorite place to go...Mast General Store. Also, Anne suggested to go to Damascus, VA for a 17 mile bike ride down a mountain (never had to pedal!). It was during the fall and was incredible!! The scenery was amazing and the weather was perfect! We also were able to have a couples massage at the B&B..highly recommend!! This B&B is quite possibly the most romantic place I could think to go, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!

Totally relaxing holiday weekend! They went out of their way to plan a Crayfish Boil for 15 people. Wow, was that amazing! We are still full !! They helped us plan and make reservations for dinners, shopping, and sightseeing trips in the nearby area. We couldn't have asked for friendlier, helpful, and hospitable hosts. This is truly an amazing adventure, with very comfortably appointed rooms, each distinctive in style and taste. Anne and Mark are our favorite hosts; simply why we keep returning over the years. You must book now, rooms go fast because many woodland outdoor adventurist fans keep returning just like us. The mountain top views are spectacular, with wildlife up close. I have so many beautiful pictures and many heartfelt memories. Thank you once again, to Anne and Mark! SUPERB !!!

The Lazy Bear is a beautiful Inn in a beautiful quiet setting. The views at the back of the Lodge to the mountains are wonderful. We were there in winter, but I would love to go back in warm weather and sit on the deck. The room was spacious, lovely, and comfortable. The only disappointment with the room, which is minor, is that the TV is very small. The owners are very nice. The breakfast was good, and it's nice that Anne has treats and hot beverages available all day. The 2 huge :) dogs that roam the downstairs are very friendly, but someone who is not a dog person, may be thrilled with that. Luckily, we are dog people and enjoyed their company. We had a wonderful time at the Lazy Bear Lodge and I hope we can stay again on another trip to Boone.

This is my girlfriend and my second year going to the Lazy Bear Lodge and it is just an absolutely wonderful place to go for a weekend and just relax. There isn't any need to even leave the lodge and travel around town or hike outside. The lodge also offers massages which are wonderful as well. Anne and Mark are two of the nicest people you will meet in the world and really know how to cater to every amenity. I highly recommend the LBL. The food they serve is also wonderful and how can you resist the late night cookies and snacks they leave out for guests downstairs. Truly a wonderful experience

Just returned from a wonderful stay at Lazy Bear Lodge. We only live an hour away and have stayed at several b&bs and this one is now my favorite. I don't usually go to the same place twice because I like experiencing new places but this one is worthy of a return.

My husband and I absolutely loved this B&B. We have been twice in the year 2010. The Innkeepers treat you like they have known you forever and the breakfast is wonderful. You actually get what you pay for in Breakfast. The rooms are super cozy and the views from the house are gorgeous. We will definately be back again for a 3rd time. This is our new hiding place. When you go, just make yourself at home and don't forget to book a massage. The massage therapist are wonderful and they are done right there in the B&B. ENJOY!

My wife and I spent one night at Lazy Bear Lodge a week before Christnas and had the most unforgettable experience. Check-in was quick; we were led to our room; any sights we wanted to find, Anne printed directions for us. The rooms were immaculate and more comfortable than any hotel or inn we have ever stayed. Even though the inn was full, we never even knew anyone else was there until breakfast the next morning. And speaking of breakfast, we were awakened to the smell of brewing coffee and sizzling bacon. The owners are so personal and personable, it was like staying at your favorite aunts for a holiday. We will definitely make this our "special occasion" place.

We stayed during an unexpectedly snowy weekend. The inn was warm and cozy though. My daughter and I were out shopping the second day when we received a call from the inn checking on us and telling us the roads were getting bad. Anne told us to come back and they'd feed us dinner, it felt like home. The room was lovely with a cozy fireplace and there was always a nice snack downstairs. The jet- spa tub was wonderful. Unfortunately, the water pressure in the shower was sad, but you can't have eveything. The dogs were great and well behaved. Bella was waiting for you when you came down the stairs, she really "needs" to be petted. When I got home my dog knew I had "cheated" on her. The breakfasts are wonderful. Think I'd like to visit again when the weather is better.

I thought this to be a lovely place with amazing views, great rooms, hospitality and an amazing breakfast!!! I would highly recommend a stay at Lazy Bear Lodge, ONLY if you enjoy dogs :) I am a dog lover, but even I was a little taken back by the freedom, the innkeeper's two very large dogs, Bo and Bella have in the B&B. Upon our arrival, Bo, a large lab even at a distance, was barking at us the entire time we approached the B&B. Assuming there is no way they would allow an aggressive dog to greet guests, I treated the barking as more of an "announcement" but for anyone not familiar with dogs or a little afraid of them, they would probably have turned around and gotten back in their cars. They are thankfully not allowed in the bedrooms, but they were allowed in the main room which is not a problem execpt for the fact there is no where to walk around these 90+ lb dogs except to step over them...constantly... as they are lying in the middle of the floor everywhere you turn. I even caught Bella trying to sneak food off one of the tables in the dining room after guests left. I don't work for State Health, but I'm guessing it is a BIG no no to allow animals in an eating area??? Just an hunch. Other than this, Anne was a really great host who might just love her dogs a little too much :) But a wonderful stay regardless and a beautiful setting.

This place is exactly as advertised. Mark and Anne make you feel as if you have known them for years. The rooms are comfortable and well kept. Anne is a most gracious host with a good knowledge of the surrounding area, things to do and places to eat. Bo and Bella welcome you as if you are family for the price of a belly rub. The morning breakfast is a pleasant surprise as you are given a choice of breakfast options, unlike most other B & B's. This was a great place to stay which we will certainly visit again.

John Casson, Susan Casson, stayed at the Lazy Bear lodge in late November, 2010. Everything exceeded our expectations by a mile. The owners immediately treated us like family (in a good way), the rooms were spotless, the breakfast was so fresh I never knew eggs could taste that good (they are brought in from a nearby farm), and the price was exceptional for that time of year. The owner was very knowledgeable regarding nearby upscale dining facilities, and attractions. This will certainly be a regular spot for us when we want to get away for a few days.

Lazy Bear Lodge was the first B&B my husband and I have stayed at and Anne and Mark made sure it won't be our last. The location is perfect, 5 minutes from Boone, just a few minutes to Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns and the original Mast General Store. Such a cozy home away from home. They have thought of every detail. Home made soaps in the bathroom, his and her robes, plush bedding, homemade cookies and brownies with hot beverages available all evening and a movie library to choose from to take back to your room. The grounds are beautiful complete with a front porch swing, hammock in the trees and breathtaking mountain views. Inside is such a warm and inviting mixture of antiques, rocking chairs, stone fireplaces. My husband and I could not decide which spot was better. Outside on our private porch overlooking the mountain or inside our room on the rocking chair next to our gas stove. Warmed my tea in a mug on that stove. And let's not forget Bo and Bella, the furry loveable host and hostess. We watched 10 different types of birds eat from the feeder outside as we enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Ask about their yummy "mystery" butter for your toast. Definitely a little slice of mountain-top heaven. Thank you, Ann and Mark! Roby and Jen from Charleston, SC

My husband and I have been guests at the Lazy Bear Lodge many times. Everything is wonderful and more than anyone could expect. We feel totally pampered and relaxed from the moment we enter the front door. If we could make a trip to the Lodge once a month, it still would not be enough time to spend at a place one could only call,"A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!"

Anne and Mark as well as their staff was wonderful from beginning to end. The rooms and grounds were beautiful, the food and service was perfect. We also had a couples massage in their quaint spa and both Nessha and Michael were wonderful. Even the location is perfect! I plan on going back every year and would HIGHLY recommend it!

We stayed at Lazy Bear Lodge to celebrate our 1st anniversary and couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. The breakfast was delicious, the house is beautiful, the bed was extremely comfortable, and high quality towels in the bathroom. The fireplace in the room was perfect when it was cool at night. The innkeepers are very friendly and helpful. The massages were excellent too. We will definitely make a repeat visit!

We only stayed one night at the Lazy Bear Lodge, but it was great! The owners are very pleasant as were the other guests. The view was amazing from our 2nd floor room. Breakfast was great as well.

I read the "a little disappointed" review and laughed at that Kook's comments.I've been to Lazy Bear more times than I can count since the inn first opened & the rooms, service, value, cleanliness & dining have always been outstanding.I can't count the number of times I have recommended Lazy Bear to others.

Wonderful view of the mountains. The dogs are nice but they were playing during breakfast in a small area that was a little disruptive. Sandy was Very friendly. We left very refreshed!!

Had really big expecatations after reading the other reviews. A little disappointed in service. I was so excited to arrive at the Lazy Bear and have a chocolate chip cookie. There were no chocolate chip. I requested these several times and was told they would NOT be made until the jar of mac. nut was empty. How hard is it to make chocolate chip cookies? Jetted tub was only big enough for 1 small adult in the second floor room with private balcony. View from the room was awesome!

We enjoyed our stay tremendously at The Lazy Bear Lodge. The facility was very warm and cozy brought back happy memories of previous stays in the Mtns. It was much better than our honeymoon- our car had been broken into and most everything stolen! So Lazy Bear Lodge was wonderful!

I recently had the privilege of staying 2 nights at LBL. It is one of the most charming, comfortable, beautifully decorated lodges I have ever stayed in. The rooms were immaculate and every detail was meticulously thought out. Anne and her staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. A gourmet breakfast was prepared and served every morning. The views were breathtaking and the leaves were at peak. Bella and Bo were a pleasure to love on - they helped take my mind off my own dog at home. I look forward to a return visit sooner than later.

Location, location, location PLUS charm. We had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before so were very pleasantly suprised by how much more homey and laid back Lazy Bear Lodge was compared to a motel. Lazy Bear is a beautiful house with beautiful rooms and a pretty mountain view. We will certainly stay there in the future. Boone North Carolina is a great place to visit and, of course, the mountains are spectacular.

My girlfriend and I went to the Lazy Bear Lodge for the weekend in mid october. The mountains are beautiful, especially from our room in and off our balcony. Ann and Mark were great. Ann made us feel right at home the entire weekend, breakfast was great and dinner was outstanding. I wish we could have stayed the rest of the month. I have been home for a week and I still wish I was there. The lodge is beautiful and bella and Bo were great. I highly recommend to everyone.

My husband and I found the Lazy Bear Lodge to be a charming, first class place. The grounds were lovely, and well kept. The lodge was very comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. Innkeepers Anne and Mark were gracious hosts who made us feel welcome and pampered. One thing that made us choose the lodge was the fact that there is a room on ground level. The room was large and could accomodate handicaps. We look forward to going there again.

Enjoyed the mountains view from the room's deck. We brought in wine, soup, and breakfast rolls. Glasses and soup bowls were provided and we warmed things up on the in room gas burning stove. Very relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast serviced at our convenience. Open access to everything.

Warm, friendly inviting atmosphere. Love the waterscape and the Coi in the pond. Bo and Bella are two sweet dogs who are extremely well behaved. Anne and staff made us feel at home, like family. The kingsize bed was like sleeping on a cloud and a Jacuzzi to relax in made it even better. We recommend Lazy Bear to all our neighbors..........

We spent our 4th anniversary at the Lazy Bear Lodge. We chose this place based on all the write ups we reviewed on the internet. We were not at all disappointed. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Bo & Bella - their 2 very large friendly dogs. The staff quickly greeted us and showed us around the place. Our room was exactly as pictured on the internet and was quite clean. The balcony was a great asset to our room as was the view. We spent one day touring the sites then came back to a couples massage in the massage room on site. We walked downstairs in our robes and into the room. After it was complete we went back upstairs to our room. No driving or walking out in the elements. It was wonderful. Our 2nd day we spent touring again then came back for a relaxing afternoon at the lodge. We walked a trail in the woods then came back and rocked on the front porch with a glass of wine. We were able to talk with Anne - one of the owner's who made you feel like family. She's a wonderful kind person and she makes you feel like you've known her for years. Her husband Mark cooked us a delicious breakfast the next morning. The dining room is roomy and quaint at the same time. The fireplace was a nice added touch for a cool morning in the mountains. The location of the lazy bear lodge was excellent. Close enough to the sites but not high atop a mountain to make driving back and forth a pain. The pictures on the site are exactly what you'll see when you get there and the reviews are on point. Mark and Anne certainly know what they are doing and we plan to go back again soon. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I were guests at Lazy Bear Lodge for two nights. We decided the first morning that we would definitely return. The views of the valley were gorgeous, the decor and the ambiance of the Lodge is terrific. The breakfast each morning was well prepared and served with grace in a very relaxed atmosphere. The innkeepers are first rate, and Anne made our stay memorable.

The Lodge truly lives up to the photos on the website. The mtn view from the back deck is wonderful-nourishing to body and spirit. Anne & Mark are very gracious hosts, offering genuine hospitality & delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. We already have plans to return! Just 1 caution: they do have 2 big dogs which are well-behaved; we enjoyed them, but 1 guest there during our stay seemed to be disturbed by the dogs...Wheelers... Matthews, NC

The Lazy Bear is a great hidaway. The quiet mountainside location was perfect for sleep, we heard only the wind in the trees during the night. We awoke to invigorating views of treetops and distant mountains. The porch is restful, and wonderful for rocking and reading or conversation, great for birding. Gardens are marvelous, food is excellent, and the relaxed atmosphere and flexible hours Mark and Anne provide were perfect for a lazy morning. Bella and Bo added to our stay. This is a great getaway we hope to visit again soon.

THIS CHARMING B&B IS HIGHLY RECOMENDED. THE OMELETS THE FIRST MORNING AND THE STUFFED FRENCH TOAST THE SECOND (PREPARED BY MARK THE GOURMET CHIEF) WAS ABSOLUTLEY WONDERFULL. ANNE AND MARK HAVE MADE A PERMANENT IMPRESSION ON MY WIFE AND I THAT WE WILL NEVER FORGET. WE JUST MET EACH OF THEM THIS PAST WEEKEND BUT KNOW THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE OUR FRIENDS. CAN'T WAIT UNTIL OUR NEXT VISIT WITH THE LAZY BEAR LODGE. DAVID & HELEN

We just returned from a perfect first anniversary trip to the lazy bear lodge. It was just what we wanted-a relaxing and romantic retreat from our busy everyday lives! Great service, great atmosphere and a great time. We can't wait to return!

A wonderful place to "get away from it all!" Beautiful views, delightful surroundings, and welcoming host created a perfect stay. We didn't want to leave...our private porch, comfortable environment, and scenic views could have kept us captive for much longer. And, don't forget Bo and Bella...Lazy Bear's sweet dogs helped sooth our homesickness for our left behind dog.

This is an outstanding B&B. It is only 5 years old and was built as a B&B, not a private home. Your hostess, Anne, was born to run a B&B. She loves her work and it certainly shows. The views from the huge rear deck are magnificent. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. Wi-Fi ( which I expected to be slow) was anything but. Her morning breakfasts were terrific. If you are not a "dog" person, be aware Anne has "my kids" which are both large size dogs who mingle with the guests. Of course they are well trained and never enter the bedrooms.

What a wonderful B&B! The hospitality, breakfasts, view and of course Bo and Bella will always make this a memorable place to stay. Until our next stay. Thanks Anne!

We just got back from the Lazy Bear Lodge and I am already wanting to plan a trip back! Only next time, we'll plan a lot less things to do in the area and just hang out more to enjoy the fabulous lodge and hospitality. You are treated as friends and welcomed guests from the moment you arrive until the time you hug goodbye! Every little detail is perfect and we stay at B & B's quite often and this is (by far) moved up to our #1!

My wife and I will vacation at B&Bs a few times a year. The Lazy Bear was by far our best B&B experience. If you are a HGTV junkie, quit watching TV and enjoy a home that is decorated and landscaped better than any "dream home". Anne and Mark have a labor of love because no one would do what they have for a job. Everyone is treated like family, and the food and service is top notch. The view from the back deck is outstanding. I highly recommend a trip to the Lazy Bear. My wife and I will be heading back in the Fall.

Great atmosphere. Clean, neat and very "user friendly". Wonderful food. Marvelous hosts. We've stayed in a number of B&B's and this was the best. Beautiful view. Close to many activities but still away from it all. Highly recommend the available massage, too. Very professional and relaxing. Great place to get away.

We have stayed at the Lazy Bear Lodge many times. It only took one visit to be hooked. Mark & Ann make you feel at home & welcome. The Lodge is breathtaking. Rooms are individually decorated and so plush. The most relaxing stay ever. Breakfast is always wonderful.

My wife and I stayed here for her birthday. Amazing views of the mountains and wildlife. Breakfast was wonderful, as was the cake that's available every evening. Everything was extremely clean and Ann and Lauren were very kind and very helpful. They gave us directions to various area attractions and recommended some wonderful restaurants. If you don't stay at Lazy Bear Lodge, you're missing out ... I'd recommend it to everyone!

My mother wanted to take me away for a weekend to rest and relax. Which means no kids (I have three) and no husband!! Just me and my moma. Best part it was her birthday weekend so we got to celebrate and just relax with a little shopping too.

My daughter and I stayed at the Lazy Bear Lodge for my birthday. it was a wonderful way to spend me special day. From the moment we were met by Cala and the "pups" to the hugs from Anne at the goodbye we were treated like old friends. We had dinner out at a local restaurant that Anne recommended and called to make reservations for us and handed us printed directions to it and her number incase we got lost. The room was beautiful, I loved the fireplace, and the bathtub. The views from our porch was amazing. Breakfast was delicious-stuffed french toast. The stay was way too short. I want to come back and stay 2 nights.

I have the pleasure of staying at the Lazy-Bear thwice and can't wait for the next time! Anne is the most wonderful host we have ever had at a B&B. Mark is a great cook and the two canines who call this home completes a perfect vacation. The lodge is much better in person than any of the pictues. The lodge is like being in another world, yet close to shopping. dining, and skiing. Please consider this a must on your next visit to the NC mountains.

We had a short stay here, but Anne made the trip for us. Thanks again Anne, you will be seeing us again!

The first time we traveled up the winding road to the Lazy Bear Lodge, we fell in love. It was in the spring & Anne was working outside on the grounds. We told her we had recently learned of the Lazy Bear & wanted to see it. She immediately dropped what she was doing & invited us in for a tour. We fell in love again & vowed we would soon return for a visit. We made reservations not long after that & have been back about a half dozen times! We have brought friends with us & have told everyone we know if they want an unforgetable stay, the Lazy Bear is it! The rooms are spacious and comfortable. It is not easy getting out of bed in the morning & would be darn near impossible if it were not for the delicious aromas wafting up from the kitchen. Not only are Anne & Mark fabulous innkeepers, they are fabulous cooks as well. If you stay over on a Saturday night, you must have dinner at the lodge! We have not had better food anywhere! We always meet the nicest people there & enjoy visiting with them. Two of the sweetest dogs reside there as well, Ethel & BoBo! Whether you are sitting on the deck enjoying the exquisite view or snuggling by the fire inside, you will discover you have found the most relaxing place--a little bit of heaven on earth!!

If you really want to impress your spouse you can easily look like a hero by taking them to Lazy Bear Lodge. It is a beautiful getaway. Every aspect of the experience far exceeded our expectations. On the way to Lazy Bear you will pat yourself on the back and give a sigh of relief as you drive past the other B&B's you were considering. This house is amazing (inside and out). Once you're in your room you will debate on whether or not you want to leave or do all the things you planned on doing before you arrived there. The views are awesome so bring your camera. Whether you want to sit out on the balcony and enjoy nature or stay in and warm up by the fire, soak in the jacuzzi, or nap on the most comfortable bed you'll ever lay your head on. I recommend eating dinner at the lodge. Everything is prepared there to order and served in a dim atmosphere by the fireplace. Ann and Mark are two of the nicest people you'll meet. The experience is indescribable. I promise you won't want to leave.
