The Blair House Bed and Breakfast

My wife and I celebrated our 16th anniversary at the Blair House in October. Like so many people, our day to day lives get so busy that we forget to take time for us. We needed a quick break from everyday life and lucky for us, The Blair House is only about an hour from our home. Claudia was so gracious when I made the reservation and made a great recommendation for a restaurant, The Italian Table. We truly enjoyed the get away and look forward to a return trip in the near future. Thank you very much.

This past week my husband and I celebrated our 26th Wedding Anniversary at the Blair House. Last year to celebrate our 25th we went to Lake Lure, North Carolina and decided from that point on that every Anniversary from here on out we would do a “get away” even if it was for just one night and this year I selected the Blair House, as we had visited Uwharrie (you.are.a as Claudia helped me with my pronunciation) National Forest and was familiar with the areas beauty. Nothing, no nothing, could have properly prepared us for the Blair House, Claudia, her family history and the spectacular surroundings of her magnificent home; she shares with her husband Jim. I cannot properly put into words what a wonderful evening we spent there and the fantastic Bluegrass Concert we attended, after Claudia let us know what was going on in the area that evening. I knew even before I left that I was going to have to get on line and let people know about this hidden “Jewel”, which I thank my lucky stars for randomly selecting off of the internet. Have you ever heard the expression “even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again”? Well folks this was definitely our “blind squirrel” moment and I thanked God for it more than once this weekend. I honestly hesitated saying anything about “my home” as I don’t want it to get so overcrowded that there isn’t “room at the Inn” for us, but at the same time hording this place all to our own would be a sin, especially knowing that Claudia and Jim are themselves willing to share their gracious home with all of us. This is an absolutely lovely and grand home. The hosts are delightful and have thought of every detail...from the super comfortable beds to the decor to the scrumptious breakfast! The home is beautiful! There is a national forest surrounding the town and world renowned pottery artists nearby. I will be back!!

great stay. we had the meadow room at the arscott house. large room for my family. very nice and clean. the breakfast at the blair house was great, especially the french toast. will stay and eat there again. very friendly people.

If you'd like to pamper yourself with a great getaway at a very reasonable cost, stay in the Blair House. You'll love the lovely, well-appointed suites with LARGE, modern baths. Each offers an enormous amount of space and comfort for the money. The helpful and friendly hosts and full, hot (and tasty!) breakfast will make you want to stay again or for an extra night!! Have also stayed in their Arscott House just down the street -- also found it to be a hidden gem and good value. Special get-togethers, family reunions or weddings? Reserve one or both houses and your family/friends will appreciate the care you took with your selection!

I felt like I was at a resort. House is beautiful. Bed slept like a dream. Great furnishings and history. Claudia is great.

My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to stay at the Blair House for our anniversary. It is the most relaxing and enjoyable place we have stayed. Claudia and Jim are warm and wonderful hosts and the food...... WOW. We will return as soon as we can. Thanks for the experience.

I have been an innkeeper for about six years and I was beyond impressed with this inn. My mom and I took a trip down and stayed in the other house Claudia and Jim own, the Arscott House. We were the only ones there and had free reign of the place. Our room was huge and had two double beds with a sitting area. The bathroom was beautiful and the whole house sparkling clean. Breakfast was amazing and Claudia took us around and showed us the rooms in the Blair House and told us about her family. If I ever get down to that part of North Carolina again I'll definitely be staying there again!

Just love the beautiful home and spacious rooms. The balcony and porch with rockers make it a relaxing place to rest and recover from our busy lives. Claudia is a pleasure and quite the hostess! Loved our time at the Blair House!

We had such a great time getting together and playing games during our overnight stay at the Blair house. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts were wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a better venue for our night away.

We have stayed here numerous times, and can hardly wait to return. This is the coziest inn we've stayed in. The food is to die for! The innkeepers have a way of making you feel so special and cared about, like one of the family.We have stayed here numerous times, and can hardly wait to return.

My mother, fiance and myself travel each Christmas season to visit the Blair House because it's so close to my brother's grave where we place a wreath each year. This has been our tradition for the past 5 years. This is such a lovely home that seems to embrace you and calm you under any circumstance. Claudia and Jim are so welcoming and such a joy to visit with and are true sweet souls. The rooms themselves are so inviting and decorated with both class and comfort. The wi-fi is excellent and should you not have a computer there is one provided in the house. The different breakfast each day provided is such a treat and proves Claudia's desire to spoil her guests. We love to walk the streets of Troy and admire the lovely homes and quaint businesses; especially Claudia's gift shop located next door. At Christmas, the streets are completely covered in lights and the enormous magnolia at the Blair House is strung from top to bottom. Truly magical like Bedford Falls! We will be back next year as well. And maybe even a visit in the spring!

Excellent SUITES - huge! Very comfortable. Easy to relax. WiFi excellent plus a computer available for guest use. Verizon Wireless reception was excellent. Owners are very friendly, well traveled, and well educated. Breakfast was superb - and memorable even! You are made to feel completely at home. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful weekend to de-stress and recharge your batteries OR a private time with your special one, this is the place. Nice restaurants within reasonable driving distances. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; we've already booked a return stay around Christmas Time.

Our suite (Autumn) was quiet, very well appointed and had a big garden tub and separate shower. The towls were fluffy, the breakfast was a feast and the owners were both charming and informational. Would highly recommend.

I recently joined a friend for a weekend at the Blair House, as a chance to "run away" from life for a few days, and a better place could not be found! We stayed in the Arscott House just down the block, and the peace and tranquility of the town were the perfect side dishes to the main course served by Claudia and Jim in their hospitality. Both the Blair House and the Arscott House are architectural treats with uniquely laid ceilings of wood and molded plaster, the walls are still plank boards in some rooms, adding to the charm you simply don’t see anymore, and if you look down a hallway you may notice a slightly different tilt of each doorway. Should this make you nervous? I’d say not!! Do you think you’ll be able to stand completely straight at nearly 200 years old? Seriously, don’t let the age fool you. Claudia and Jim have seen to every modern amenity you could probably want in each kitchenette, the bathrooms are spacious, contain plenty of electrical outlets, and are well lit enough to apply make up with no problems. They have even had the foresight to provide a large walk in closet and a chest of drawers, ironing board and iron. Claudia lays out a phenomenal spread at breakfast that included fresh fruit, sweet breads, cereals, and a different assortment of breakfast casseroles as well as eggs, ham, and bacon. Her French toast is to die for, and the sweet soufflé that she served one morning was sensational. In all honesty, I didn’t explore the surrounding area much during my visit, other than a trip to the zoo, which is perhaps 30 minutes away. I was simply too lulled by the relaxing atmosphere emanating from the house. The Blair House and her keepers are hands down a delight to the senses and are just what the doctor ordered if serenity and genuine hospitality are the prescription.

The Blair house is beautiful. There is so much to do in the area, but sometimes I just want to sit on their front porch and enjoy the landscape. The owners are very welcoming, and the breakfast is amazing. I feel very relaxed and refreshed after my stay there...either from the great night sleep, the relaxed atmosphere, or the huge breakfast.

I spent Mother's Day Weekend 2009 at the Arscott House. It is the second house of the Blair House B&B. Everything was exceptional. The bed and bathrooms were huge and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Claudia and Jim were interesting and delightful. I will go back and take friends. It is an exceptional value as well.

Recently, my wife and I joined some other friends for a weekend at The Blair House B&B. What a treat! We were so impressed with the interesting and tastefully decorated family home of the owners. The rooms are decorated with just the right "thing" with many of the accents being family pieces from Claudia's grandmother whoonce lived in the house. Claudia has a great flair for hosting and her breakfast meals would be the envy of many gourmands. The rooms are so spacious and exquisitely decorated - interesting, pleasant colors, and just the right accents! Very pleasant...and the bathrooms/showers are generous and comfortable. In addition to the Inn itself being so inviting, there are great antique shops and pottery studios in the area. We highly recommend The Blair House for a quiet, reflective get-away or as a place to reconnect with friends.

A very up-scale B&B with huge bathrooms. A great place to have a family reunion since the main house is only one of another wonderfully restored home which is less than a block away. Cluadia and Jim prepare a fantastic hot breakfast. They also have an assortment of cereals and hot teas. This is the place to stay in Troy!

Quiet, restful night in beautiful surroundings with wonderful bed, comforter, spacious bath, gas log fireplace, excellent breakfast, and wonderful innkeepers. No need for any improvement! Fantastic!

The most pleasant experience. Restful and touching. I would encourage anyone to take the time to give their heart a lift by visiting these lovely homes.

My wife and I have visited at the Blair House B&B one weekend each of the past four years. We have stayed in three different suites, each of which was immaculate and tastefully furnished with a blend of antiques and more contemporary pieces. There are many pottery shops and antique shops within within a half-hour drive, but the Blair House B&B is also a great place just to relax. We particularly like the message stenciled in the dining area: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by doing so some have entertained angels unawares.” The breakfasts are terrific, and the innkeepers, Claudia and Jim, are warm and helpful.

As an avid pottery shopper, I've traveled to the area many times but have always stayed in a chain hotel. I was delighted to find this gem! The home is gorgeous and the rooms are decorated so elegantly, yet comfortable and not stuffy. Everything was immaculate and the rooms and bathrooms had every ammenity. Claudia was wonderful and we left feeling like we had a new friend. Her breakfast was a real treat. She had breakfast ready at the time we requested and it was delicious. We plan on returning!

Claudia and her husband are charming, as the inn is. The house, with the two bedrooms upstairs and common area is extremely comfortable and a fine place to stay!

I traveled down to Troy recently for some training at the Uwharrie National Forest. I decided to book a room at the Blair House and I was not disappointed. The architecture and the history of the house was quite fascinating. The house is located close to Main Street, but it’s wonderfully hidden behind clusters of large, tall trees. After a long day in the Uwharrie, sitting out on the porch and taking in the cool breezes was very relaxing. The accommodations and the food were absolutely wonderful. And, the Innkeeper, Claudia, was so helpful and gracious. Even though I was traveling alone, she managed to make me feel right at home. I can’t say enough good things about my visit to the Blair House. If my travels ever bring me back to Troy, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The Blair House actually consists of two houses, and we stayed in the second house, the Arscott House. Our room was spacious, attractive, and comfortable. We appreciated the "Common Room" on our floor, which provided a full kitchen along with additional living room space. Claudia is friendly and gracious, and her breakfasts are delicious. The greatest disappointment is that Troy has limited restaurant options for evening dinners. Nevertheless, we greatly enjoyed our visit and I heartily recommend the house.

I came across The Blair House website while doing an online search for a B&B outside of the Charlotte city limits. My husband and I have visited TBH a total of three times now and it truly has proved to be a rare find! The house itself is beautiful and we love the room that we stay in (consistently clean, comfortable and quiet). Claudia is very accommodating and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and attractions. Breakfast in the morning is something to look forward to with a variety of choices and on-request items. We always leave feeling refreshed and glad that we made the short drive to Troy once again!

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at The Blair House B&B. It is a lovely home which is well maintained and immaculately clean. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with James and Claudia, the Innkeepers. They were very helpful with suggestions for restaurants in the area, and also with lots of interesting history of the house and surrounding area. The breakfast was delicious! This is a great place to relax after a weekend of shopping for pottery in Seagrove, NC, which is just a short drive away. We will definitely visit The Blair House again!

We were looking for a place to take a weekend getaway and we found a great one. We had no idea that the area (not far at all from our home in Charlotte) was so beautiful. The home itself is gorgeous, with all of the rooms uniquely and elegantly decorated. Jim and Claudia were two of the nicest innkeepers we've met and the breakfast she made was too die for. We will be back!!
