The Duck Smith House will delight your every senses! From the moment you arrive you will be greeted by the friendly sisters, Barbara & Suzanne and Daisy Mae (the resident dog). Each of the four bedrooms, with their own bathroom, was meticulously chosen to have its own personality and charm. Breakfast! Come into the sunniest room of the house with each of the four tables perfectly set with lace tablecloths, fine china, crystal and fresh flowers. Enjoy the small sample of the Seagrove Pottery in this delightful breakfast room. There's fresh ground coffee or herbal teas, fresh fruit and one of Barbara's wonderful breakfast specials...stuffed French Toast or maybe blueberry pancakes. Small portions aren't the standard but can be accommodated so don't forget to let them know. Relax at The Duck Smith House where you can mingle with the other guests or just be by yourselves. There are maps and business cards in front of some of the pottery pieces for you to plan your pottery shopping day. Visiting the quaint shops and talking with the potters will put smiles on your face. Don't miss the North Carolina Zoo which is the third largest free roaming zoo in the country and less than 10 miles from The Duck Smith House. Visit North America and/or Africa with it's five miles of shaded walking paths through the woods. Birders be thrilled with Suzanne's hanging bird feeders from the 100 year old black walnut tree. Come stay at The Duck Smith House, be pampered and know that when you stay here you will be spoiled and have memories that last and last.

My wife, Caroline, and I stayed overnight at The Duck Smith House this June. We were on our way to a week's stay in Asheville and had wanted to see the pottery in Seagrove. Our hostesses, Barbara and Suzanne, were so charming and funny and knowledgeable. They made our stay a delight and they made a super breakfast. We felt genuinely welcome in their home. Thanks again, Caroline and Steve

This past spring, a spur of the moment plan had our family of three (based in Raleigh) heading to the NC Zoo and then on to Boone. We decided to stay at The Duck Smith House for one evening. Can't say enough good things about this B&B ... though it's Barbara and Suzanne who were the jewels of our stay. Their hospitality was wonderful and obvious love for their business were very apparent. They made our stay so very comfortable. (We stayed in the The Waverly Room, with two double beds. Lots of room for the three of us!)

Stuffed French Toast
This is Barbara's signature dish and seems to be requested the most. It is Stuffed French Toast on raisin cinnamon bread with cream cheese, blueberries and orange zest. If you'd like it unstuffed just let us know when you arrive. Other favorites are sweet potato pancakes or pumpkin waffles. Breakfast is always served with fresh ground coffee or you can have one of our many teas. With your breakfast is always fresh fruit, like baked grapefruit with meringue on top or baked apple and you will have either bacon or sausage plus a scrambled egg. Sound like too much? We can make smaller portions.
