I didn't realize that this B&B was in the historic district of New Bern. It is a charming B&B in a charming city with lots of little shops and and river and green space nearby. The innkeepers are friendly and the breakfast was very good.

My girlfriend and I stayed here during our first romantic getaway, and we'll come back here every time. The owners were nice, the wine & cheese event in the afternoon was great, and the breakfast was worth not sleeping in. The room was beautiful, and hanging out on the porch swing made this trip just that much better.

Spring at the Harmony House was just delightful. Our room was large and comfortable and the front porch was so inviting and relaxing and we definitely took advantage of the rocking chairs, The host and hostess were kind and the breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be going back for another stay there.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are truly blessed to have so many wonderful guests. We appreciate the guests who openly talk to us during their stay so that we can ensure that their stay is fantastic. Without such great guests, we are not sure how we could keep going. Thank you again, Ed and Sooki

Room was clean, owners were friendly and courtious. TV was a bit outdated and wireless connection was weak but we didn't come to spend the whole time in the room. It was perfectly situated to easy walking distance to all of downtown. The breakfast was out of this world delicious! Most definately will stay again.

I typically stay at hotels, so no other B&B experience to compare to. The Harmony House was a nice historic home, walking distance to everything we wanted to experience. Ed and Sooki were very nice and helpful. The French Toast on our second morning was delicious.

Ed and Sooki are the perfect hosts at their beautiful B&B. The service, food, and accommodations are excellent and the location is perfect. It is difficult to find a room with two beds at a B&B for a girls' weekend, and they offer a room with twin beds. New Bern is a wonderful destination for a weekend of relaxation and fun. I can't imagine a better place to stay and relax.

We were in walking distance of many major attractions, also lunch & dinner spots.Happy Hour needed work, no cheese or crackers with the wine.
When we purchased our Inn over 19 years ago, we deeply appreciated Inns that were affordable for young professionals like we were at the time. Part of our mission statement at our Inn is that we want to do our best to cut expenses as much as possible so that our rates remain within reach of young guests and older guests on a fixed income. Unfortunately, over the past 3-4 years, our expenses have tripled. We held some impromptu meetings with our guests asking them for input about whether we should increase rates or make a few minor adjustments to our services. We listened to our guests who said our rates are fair and affordable. Several guests suggested that we serve only wine during our social hour. After a good deal of thinking about it and discussing it with guests and other Innkeepers, we decided to serve wine and cheese on weekends and serve wine only on weeknights. We regret that we have had to do this, but we chose to act in favor of our mission statement. Some of our most memorable times have been having a young couple get engaged at our Inn. Or having a couple celebrate a first or second anniversary and tell us this is their first experience at a B&B and how much they prefer staying at an Inn rather than a chain hotel. So, we are sorry this guest felt there should have been more served, but we ultimately feel that we have made the right decision.

We had a great night at Harmony House in New Bern. The house itself was from 1850 and in great shape. We were bumped up to a suite and it was very nice. The bed was very comfy and I am a bit of a bed snob. Morning breakfast was fine. Great fruit and the usual fare. Wine and cheese upon arrvival was very nice touch.

This is my second stay at Harmony House. Just love it.
The nicest comment that we can receive is "we've stayed with you before and want to stay again" or "our friends stayed here and highly recommended that we stay with you as well." Thank you so much for returning.

Wonderful trip for the weekend. Have stayed at Harmony House numerous times and will continue to stay with 'family' whenever I can get away to New Bern.
We have had many repeat guests, but it is truly rewarding when we are referred to as "family." Thank you so much. We look forward to your next visit.

Loved Harmony House Inn. Ed and Sooki were very nice, and the room was comfy-cozy. Although the food was not the most outstanding feature of our stay, it was filling and fresh. It was also comforting knowing that Ed and Sooki were willing to go the extra mile and prepare special customized breakfast for anyone with special dietary needs, as they did for one of the other guests on Saturday morning. We would definitely stay there again and have already recommended the Harmony House Inn to friends.

We had a great time and a wonderful experience at the Harmony House B&B. We met some great guest and enjoyed sitting on the front porch just talking with them. The B&B host were very accomadating and helpful and the room and breakfast were somewhat to our expections. The only problem we found was that the package was overpriced.

I stayed here with my husband for one night in September. We arrived early for check -in, but Alan allowed us to check in early, which was great as we were able to go off and explore New Bern a little before getting ready for dinner. As we checked in, he gave us a small map of the town, highlighting good places to eat and visit. We had room no 5 (If I remember correctly). It was a king sized bed. It was very comfortable, nicely decorated and we felt at ease. The bathroom was standard, bath with shower over, all very clean, lovely fluffy towels provided. It was great. Alan had informed us that there was a social hour - I think 6pm -7pm- so we got ready to go out to dinner and called into the sitting room tomeet the other guests. Wine was provided for guests and cheese and crackers. it was nice to sit and chat with others before going out into the town for dinner. Breakfast the next day was great. There were two large tables so we joined two other couples for a sociable chat. Breakfast was a help yourself affair, it was all delicious. I can't remember now what there was but it was sufficient to set us up for a nice Sunday morning strolling around the town. There was ample free parking around the back of the property. I would definitely recommend the Harmony House Inn to anyone visiting New Bern.

We had a great time in New Bern. First B&b for us. Found it online. Did not know what to expect. Proprietors were bascially unseen, assumed cheerful atmosphere. Met good people though, but we'll try another next time.
We're very sorry that the guest considered us to be "unseen." One of us is usually here from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM. We stayed at many Inns before we came here in June 1994. Assuming that the Inn is well maintained and clean, the one thing that can ruin a stay is overbearing Innkeepers. When guests are visiting us for a romantic weekend, we never want to be a "third wheel" that hinders this experience. Most of our guests are, in fact, couples looking for time away from their lives and looking to reconnect and have some R and R. So, we are sorry if there was an expectation that we would be constantly here and injecting into our guests' conversations. Most guests who enjoy talking with us will ask us to join them in their conversations and, when that happens, we do get involved and talk with our guests.

My boyfriend and I stayed 2 nights and had a great time. The bed was very comfortable and the owners were nice. There were only a few guests there when we stayed, so the it was very, very, very quiet. Breakfast is only served between 8-9:30 on weekends. Since I had to be somewhere by 8 the first day, I didn't get to try the breakfast. The second day we had baked french toast with blueberry topping, which was good. Overall, it is a great place in a great location.

Exciting to stay in a house that was built in the early 1800's. Also interesting to see pictures of Union soldiers on the front porch during the Civil War. Our stay was delightful - so peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed meeting other guests during the Wine and Cheese hour. The B&B was located in the heart of New Bern and so convenient to all attractions. We were within walking distance of the charming Old Town business area and also to parks on the banks of the two rivers that grace this lovely place. The breakfast meal was delicious and served on an aantique side board. All in all it was a wonderful and relaxing two days and nights.

My wife and I stayed at Harmony House for two nights so that we could do some genealogy research at the Craven County Register of Deeds, which turned out to be just across the street and down the block a bit, so we didn't have to get in our car to reach it. We also took some time to see the sights in New Bern, an attractive town with many nice restaurants, interesting shops and a pleasant river walkway. Harmony House is in a very convenient location for walking to all of the points of interest in New Bern. Our stay at Harmony House was pleasant. We had a nice large room with a queen bed on the first floor. The regular inn keepers were on a college tour with one of their children, so one of their fathers filled in. He was very pleasant and helpful, making sure we had a map of the town with major sights of interest and good restaurants highlighted. He suggested an interesting area of town to walk through that contains many Civil War era homes with historic plaques. The breakfasts were good, with the main dish being a baked casserole - baked french toast one day, an Italian strata the other, alternating sweet and savory dishes - plus fruit, sweet breads, juice and coffee. We enjoyed talking with other guests over breakfast. We used our genealogy quest as a conversation starter, but were quickly topped by one couple with Danish and Viking ancestry on one side and an author of the Declaration of Independence on the other. The basic amenities were fine. The TV worked well, although it had a small screen and was in a somewhat awkward location, on one side of the bed, due to the constraints of the room arrangement. The WiFi link worked fine. We were missing some soaps when we arrived, but that was quickly fixed.

My husband and I spent the weekend at Harmony House, since we were attending a wedding in New Bern. A local freind had suggested HH as one of the nicest B&Bs in town. We had to agree! the room was quite spacious a well appointed, with a canopy bed and antique furnishings. Everything was clean and in excellent shape. The breakfasts, were served beautifully and were delish! It was such a treat to leave the room, and smell the wonderful odors coming from the dining room and kitchen! We enjoyed the warm and friendly atmosphere. I plan to suggest this as a spot for my girlfriends from high school to gather. We could have great catch up time on the swing and rocking chairs on the front porch! Thank you Ed and Sooki!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Harmony Inn for a weekend and sadly we had to miss breakfast (usually between 8 and 9am) because of work. We had to leave at 6am and told the innkeeper that we would be missing breakfast and the night before our departure he left us a bag full of home-made bread and some apples. The couple that runs the Harmony Inn is so sweet!

This was our first experience at a B&B. So comparing it to another B&B as a standard I can't. Sorry. The house if full of antiques and old furniture. Reminded me of a museum or something. On the negative side of this, the curtains, bed outer covers (bed spread?) were showing their age and dusty. The Jet Bath was nice. The bed was comfortable. I'm not a breakfast person, but it was acceptable. Price was a bit on the higher side, other B&B's near were cheaper, but I have no idea on quantity/quality in comparison. We opted to stay at the B&B instead of a hotel since the hotel raised their rates for the 4July weekend, price difference was not that much so I decided to try a B&B. The gentleman who was running the B&B was filling in for his kids who were on vacation. He was very polite, explained about the house, answered any questions I had. A nice experience. new Bern is a nice little town, probably my favorite town in NC. Wish other towns refurbished their old buildings like New Bern.

Book in the room stated breakfast was till 9:30. We came down at 9:20 and were told it stopped at 9:00 So we didn't get any breakfast. Not even any coffee.
We are not sure who this reviewer is and don't recall anyone recently missing breakfast. If the guest stayed Sunday through Thursday, we do serve from 8-9, not 9:30. However, our practice is to not clean up the buffet until 30 minutes just in case some guests are running late. We are here to serve our guests and are as flexible as we can be with either business people who have to leave early or vacationers who want to sleep in. We wish this guest had talked to one of us while they were staying with us.

We had a lovely stay at Harmony House Inn in one of the corner rooms with a queen bed. The inn was clean and had a lot of charm. It was well located to restaurants and historical sites. The only oddity is that the owners were seldom around, in case we wanted advice on the town. Also, the breakfast was cake & bread pudding with some fruit. I had been in B&Bs before with more options (eggs, bacon, grits), so was a little disappointed. But, overall, as a romantic getaway, we had a lot of privacy and enjoyed the inn. We would likely stay there again.

We cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our stay with Sooki and Ed. The Inn was wonderful and our experience with them was more wonderful than we could express with words. Our children were particularly enchanted with Sooki. When the Innkeepers say that they give you the privacy you need, but are there when you need them, the are being totally truthful. Ed and Sooki have mastered that. My family did not want to leave! We are planning a return trip next year, which we have never done. We love The Harmony House and the Innkeepers that make it so very special. Sooki even mailed our sons woobie and blanket to him after he had left them on the porch. The food and everything here was great! You are missing out on a wonderful treasure if you do not stay at The Harmony House. Sincerely, BH

The history of the house was most interesting. The owners live in a separate dwelling behind the inn and respected our privacy. At our request our hostess took us on a tour of the house and her personal garden. She and her husband are exceptional cooks, which breakfast attested to. Wine and cheese from 6-7 PM is served daily. An open porch overlooking this historic area was right next to our bedroom. Just a walk in any direction offered many sights, little shops, riversides, old historic houses and buildings. Wish we had more time there. A definite do again if we are in the area. Only 17 miles from Cherry Point where our son is stationed.

In New Bern for son’s wedding. He is a Marine. First night came in very late. Couldn't get door open, very difficult lock to back entry door, very dangerous steep stairs. Mother is 78, lucky my son there to open door for us, help with luggage. Rooms had horrible mold smell, small dark room back of house, bed so hard my shoulder hurt next day. Paid same price as our relatives who had much larger, nicer room. But, the mold smell was overpowering. Wednesday night were only people there in entire house. Aunt/uncle came next day, and that was it in house. Decided to leave next day, only stayed one night. Told owner about the horrible mold smell and he sprayed air freshener. That made us sicker, the sweet awful smell. He charged us for 2 nights when we only stayed one night. He stole $150 from us, took advantage of 2 women. I am sure he would not have done that to a man. We stayed one night, that is all we owed. We went to Hilton, a very nice room. Were planning to stay for 6 nights, he said we could change rooms for a few nights but would have to go back to the moldy, little room over the weekend. We didn’t want to change rooms back and forth. If we knew he was going to charge us for the second night we would have stayed in another room there for that second night. But, he didn’t tell us that. He was not going to get another customer to replace us since the town was dead. I think he was desperate to get income and took advantage of us. My suggestion is to stay at another bed and breakfast. Some relatives stayed across the street, it was a lot cheaper, nicer. Check it out before you waste money on this place. Owner very defensive and stubborn. I am sure he will write a long response to this denying everything, and maybe saying things that aren’t true. Mold is not good for people to breath, and something should be done about this. The other rooms smelled old, but not so moldy. The overwhelming mold smell came out of the closet in that room.
In 15 years, we have never had such a perplexing situation arise. On the morning after the guest’s arrival, we both talked to her extensively and toured the Inn. They both enjoyed their breakfast. There was no indication that anything had been wrong. At around 6:30 PM, the guest sent her uncle (who was also our guest) to tell us the room smelled moldy and they didn’t know if they were going to stay. We will do anything to make sure that our guests are comfortable. So, at this point, several options were offered which the guest interpreted as “defensiveness.” We were simply trying to determine if there were any options to make them more comfortable. At approximately 7:00 PM, they already moved their luggage out of the room and they said they were leaving. There was no chance to discuss or concern on their part about whether or not they were being charged. If they truly felt uncomfortable, they should have been honest in the morning when we could have determined to everyone’s satisfaction what to do. As it was, we considered that checking out at 7:00 PM was like using the room, then demanding that they not be charged. This is the reason that the guest was charged for one night she did not stay. Despite our 7 day cancellation policy, we cancelled the remaining four nights of her stay at no charge. She is false when she states the Inn was empty. We were unable to sell her room over a special event weekend and had turned other callers away. If our rooms smelled moldy, then there would surely be several reviews stating this, but there are not. We leave these issues to your judgment to decide. We are proud of our Inn and were recently voted “simply the best” Bed and Breakfast in New Bern. In closing, we only wish to say one more thing. We are not here to be abused or taken advantage of. We will not respond to threats, abusive behavior, or blatant dishonesty.

What a wonderful first experience. Ed was so cordial and had lots of information about his B&B and the New Bern area. Sooki has done a delightful job in decorating the Inn. The breakfasts were wonderful and so much fun to enjoy such great food and great company at the same time. Everyone there was friendly and we all felt that this was a great place to stay. We look forward to going back to their place again in the future. Our room was warm, comfy, quiet and lacking nothing. We slept great and had a relaxing time in the evenings for sheri and times to sit and rock on the front porch. Their wonderful Inn is within walking distance of so much. Our car never left their private parking lot while we were there. Thank you for making our first experience so memorable and we have recommended your Inn to many of our friends. God bless you both!

The overall charm and cleanliness was great, however the bed and breakfast part I thought were below average. The bed was the hardest bed I ever slept in, in fact in the middle of the night I moved to the floor. Most bed and breakfast places I have been to in the past have coffee, tea, etc. available for self service. Here you have to meet your attendant at the front desk to ask for coffee and your preferred condiments. Then you mix your coffee right there and hand your trash, spoon, etc. back to the attendant when done. Then if you want a refill you must go through the whole process again. Breakfast is whatever they serve without any input from you on preferences, allergies, etc. It seemed to me they did whatever was cheapest to prepare. This was my third bed and breakfast in New Bern, and I will not go back.
We are very sorry that this guest feels as he does. We are not sure of the identity of the guest, but have not had any negative comments at check out or during breakfast regarding out beds. We typically ask at least twice if each guest slept well and enjoyed their stay. Most Bed and Breakfast Inns do not, in fact, have coffee service in each guest room. We have many invaluable antiques in our guest rooms. Self service coffee and tea in each room is not a reasonable expectation given the potentially permanent damage to our furnishings. We instead set up coffee on our Front Desk downstairs for all guests to come and prepare the way they wish. When guests come down for coffee, we also ask them if they had a good night's sleep and try to find out how their experience has been. It is unfortunate that someone would fail to talk to us, then sign on to the internet and criticize us and our Inn. At breakfast, we have accommodated all special diets from Atkins proteins, vegan, lactose intolerant, etc. over the past 15 years. Our only hope is that guests tell us if they have any special dietary requests so that we can accommodate them. We do not just serve "whatever is cheapest to prepare" and we stand behind the quality of our food service. This guest failed to tell us whether we met his expectations or not.

We have stayed at many B&Bs over the years and Harmony House Inn was indeed something special. We were immediatley welcome by the owners Ed and Sooki and throughout our whole visit they were so incredibly helpful. Ed makes a great "french toast" for breakfast along with many other breakfast choices ie homemade breads, peanutbutter etc.All of the bedrooms are adorable and the inn is kept immaculate. The inn is located one block from the water and within walking distance from all of the restraunts. If you are looking to get away from a hectic lifestyle for just a few days this inn is perfect for you. You will have stepped back in time when you stay at the Harmony House Inn. My husband and I wished we could ahve stayed longer.

This truly was the first vacation my husband and I didn't want to go home from. The Inn was just wonderful and help was all around. What ever we needed and whatever we desired was offered. The Innkeepers were away on vacation at the time we were there and a lovely couple was Inn sitting for them. The Inn was made to feel as though your were truly home. The food was wonderful, the service was exceptional and I could have rocked all night long on the front porch. Harmony House is close to everything you could desire to see. The Tryon Palace is beautiful and the locals couldn't be nicer. I suggest eating at Morgan's for a nice dinner and we also enjoyed a great lunch at MJ's. Both are within walking distance. Even to walk the neighborhood in the earyl evening you will be greeted with smiling friendly people. I wish we could have stayed longer.
