My husband and I were travelling down the Blue Ridge Parkway and staying in a different town each night. Once we arrived at Sabotta Manor, I wished I had booked several nights. The house is so grand and was decorated beautifully for the fall; attention had been paid to every little detail. The house is just a short walk to downtown and the garden and patio provides a quiet relaxing place. The bedroom we stayed in was decorated beautifully and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Robin, our hostess, was so friendly and made us feel very welcomed. She provided a wonderful history of the home and the area, which further enhanced the experience. We enjoyed meeting and talking with the other guests over a wonderful breakfast. Everything was just perfect. Thanks Robin (and Pam) for everything.

Mt. airy is a tiny little town just south of the Virginia/Carolina border. Andy Griffith was raised here although our motivation was simply a quiet place to relax as we drove home from Northern Virginia. Robin was very gracious and the breakfast was superb...French toast stuffed with cream cheese and topped with gingered peaches. I plan to recreate it at some point! Lovely hostess, comfortable bed, wifi and hospitality were all very evident.

This was such a wonderful experience ! I was hoping it would be as good as it appeared in the photos and the reviews , but it was even better !! My husband is very picky about accommodations and he was totally pleased with everything! The rooms are big and beautiful and private, and the breakfasts are stellar. Our hosts Robin and Jr were just lovely. Do not hesitate for a minute to stay at the Sobotto Manor!
5 on September 15, 2014
Our hosts were delightful, and our room beautiful. We walked the lovely garden out back and just wish we would have been able to stay another night. Our phone call inquiring about reserving a room was most gracious and we greatly enjoyed the conviviality of the other guests at our delicious breakfast. We were very well cared for, the décor is gracious and full of history--I learned what a "petticoat table" is! Robin offered dinner suggestions and we were able to walk to the downtown district easily. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

Family gathering of 4 adults had a great time with just chilling out. Robin and JR were great hostess to share their lovely home. The breakfasts were delicious!!!! We were also greeted by their four legged family members who were well behaved. This B&B is a definite on anybody's list to stay. Mt. Airy is a quaint little town with lots of Andy Griffith and Mayberry stuff to see. A definite return for us. Anderson, SC

Within walking distance to downtown "Mayberry". Breakfast was delicious!! Robin and Thurman make you feel right at home and were very informative about the nearby attractions. The dogs were so cute and very well behaved!! We cannot wait to go back!!

There are never enough words to describe Robin and Sobotta House. The feelings of peace and love reign supreme through the beautifully done Manor from the rooms to the food to the exquisit english garden. Always a pleasure to see them and well worth any opportunity that you have to stay there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Robin at her beautiful home. She made it feel as if it were our home during our visit. The rooms were perfectly appointed without a detail overlooked. Her breakfasts were gorgeous to look at and kissed the palate. We were able to learn about this home and the area through Robin's extremely knowledge able love of the area. Don't miss this special B&B.

We visited Sobatta Manor B&B a number of years ago and decided to return this summer, as it is a convenient stopover on our frequent trips from Georgia to the mid-Atlantic. We were thrilled to find that it is just as lovely as it was then--an affordable, comfortable and serene retreat in a picture-postcard town. Robin is a totally gracious and accommodating hostess and goes out of her way to make each of her guests feel cared for and at home for the duration of their stay. We hope to return again and again!

My husband and I stopped in on the way to a wedding in West Virginia. We were greeted warmly, given information about Mt Airy to begin our evening in "Mayberry"Our room was very comfortable and breakfast was wonderful - Robin accommodated my dietary restrictions and made gluten free pancakes. We would stay again if we're traveling through northern North Carolina.

Thank-you so much Robin and Junior for allowing us to spend a beautiful night and morning at your home. This is our second stay and we will return in the near future to visit with you again at your fabulous B&B.

My husband and I just returned from staying in this absolutely charming b&b and it was our first time staying in any b&b and we absolutely loved it. We made new friends and robin and jr were so accommodating. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfasts were amazing! I always take my own quilt and pillow and this was a first as I didn't even use them because the bed linens were so clean. If we are ever in the mt airy area we will definitely stay here again. Actually we may plan on meeting a couple we met here next year same time(4th of July weekend). It was a great experience for us. Leesa and kiah kentucky

A friend and I traveled to Mt. Airy for an overnight before planning to pick cherries at the Levering Orchards just north of town. What a treasure awaited us. The Sobotta and innkeepers were everything and more and made our visit really memorable. We walked to downtown and enjoyed strolling around in a vibrant little place full of antiques stores, little cafes, and many interesting things. The gardens at Sobotta are just lovely and carefully tended, as are the guests at this remarkable B and B. Rooms, breakfasts, hospitality are everything we could have wanted.

They were very considerate and accommodating in preparing a healthy and delicious breakfast that met our needs. Would not hesitate to return

I am so impressed with Sobotta Manor in Mt. Airy. My friend and I visited overnight for a quick visit to Mt. Airy. I was a bit hesitant considering I'd never stayed at a B&B before, but all concerns were quickly eased. The innkeeper is very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the house, and local information. Every attention to detail is addressed. The furnishings are so beautiful and warm, and you cannot help but feel a comfort. It was nice to enjoy such lavish surroundings for a night. The landscaping, and garden out back are beautiful as well. It's an ambiance familiar to days passed. The breakfast was the most wonderful ending to our stay. Delicious and BEAUTIFUL. We had a cranberry muffin, and yogurt topped with apples, pecans, and caramel, and then a wonderful cream cheese filled French toast topped with apples and a berry reduction. I simply cannot express how wonderful this property is. You will have to see for yourself! I cant wait for my next Mt. Airy visit!

Our stay at this B&B was just perfect thanks to J.R whose knowledge of the town and its history. He is so personable! We would not hesitate to return to this place again and again. The only thing missing was a chance to meet his wife, which we hope to do next time. The town of Mt. Airy has to be proud of having this B&B.

When my husband told me we were going to Mt. Airy to spend a week, I pouted. I had to look the town up on Google and dreaded going. I am very demanding and was already nagging on the way there. Yet, once there, my husband surprised me by lodging us at the Sobotta Manor B&B and it was so beautiful that couldn’t help but smile. The rooms are like those if a 5 star hotel, the entire place is impeccable! The owners (Robin and Jr.) were the nicest and most generous hosts ever. They made us feel at home immediately. By then my husband bragging about how he knew I would love it. Then, what I thought would be a problem was the food, as the Sobotta Manor cooks all its food from scratch and presents it at the level of a Michelin Chef, I was eating left and right everything, even when I wasn’t hungry and I started to worry about gaining weight but wasn’t about to pass on everything served ….luckily for me, everything that is fun, interesting and nice is within walking distance from the Sobotta Manor ; you name it, it’s there: wineries, restaurants, town center, all celebrations. I ended up losing four pounds despite all the delicious foods prepared in our B&B …and I can’t even do that at home while dieting! The week went by very quickly with so many things to do and the fact that I loved, loved , loved our lodging and the owners, and basically I just didn’t want to leave. We were able to extend our stay two more days due to a cancellation and by then my husband was so full of himself for providing the perfect vacation and the fact that he had proved me wrong. I recommend the Sobotta Manor to anyone who appreciates quality and comfort. I could no have been anymore pleased and hope to return many, many times more ¿

The owners, Robin and Junior were very accommodating! Not only did they give us an upgrade because of the occasion (my wife and I were celebrating our 41st anniversary!) but went out of their way to make our stay very special! I am very peculiar regarding breakfast and Robin adjusted her menu to meet my needs! Both are very good people persons and we had very good conversations with both! They were very knowledgeable about attractions in area and shared much welcomed advice! We would definitely stay there again and recommend it!

The Sobotta stay was a wonderful experience for us. We've stayed at numerous bed and breakfasts and I must say I would ranked this one as #1. The room was very clean and the service Robin provided was outstanding. She really rolled out the red carpet for us and all other guest staying there during our stay. She is a wealth of knowledge, locally in the surrounding area and globally. The Sobotta is very convenient to walk to any part of tour sites and the down town area. I highly recommend if you are planning on visiting the Mount Airy area. I certainly will stay again and again!!!!

We always stay in B & B's when we travel and this was THE best one we have been in. The rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable, and the rooms have beautiful furniture and bedding. Robin did a beautiful job of making her home comfy and cozy and she decorated for the fall in every inch of the house so it was so nice to be away from Florida and feel like were were in a Fall setting. The breakfast was wonderful. Robin's hospitality was so welcoming and she showed us around the house and let us tour the kitchen and her beautiful new oven. We had great conversation. We walked to downtown in 2 minutes. If we are ever in Mt. airy again we will definitely stay at Sobotta Manor and highly recommend. Steve & Vicky Gale Davie, FL

Very accommodating, friendly, hosts. Robin's breakfast was a wonderful gourmet experience. The rooms are large, luxurious, with ensuite bathrooms. It is located in town so once you arrive you can relax and enjoy all the local features. The grounds are private, quiet and over an acre in size so relaxing on the terrace or back garden in the afternoon was a real treat. The home was beautifully decorated for the Fall season. A very special experience!

Was looking for a B&B in the Mt Airy area and we could not have chosen a better house or host. The room was very comfortable and the breakfasts fantastic. Robin could not have been nicer and more accommodating. We did a wine tour with her on Sunday and she prepared a fantastic lunch we ate at one of the wineries. The house is within walking distance of downtown "Mayberry" so we did not have to move our car once we arrived. Robin also secured dinner reservations for us on Saturday night that turned in to one of the more romantic dinners we have ever had together. I recommend anyone looking to visit this area stay here and let Robin take care of you.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Sobatta Manor for a couple of nights and we were so pleased with the complete experience. The home was warm and welcoming, the garden tranquil and fragrant, the breakfast tasty and plentiful, and the bed soft and inviting. Our hostess,Robin ,truly made the experience one to remember. I felt like I was staying with a good friend, not someone I just met. While we had made the trip because it is the home place of Andy Griffith,I will come back just to stay at the Sobotta. It is that good! Robin gave us many ideas of things to do,places to eat at and even scheduled a massage for me . Zack does a fabulous job so be sure to have one of those as well. My husband and I both agree that this is the best B&B and we will be back.

From the moment we made our reservations, Robin, our hostess went above and beyond to make sure our stay at Sobotta Manor would be wonderful. The manor is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The rooms have gorgeous antiques and modern amenities as well. Beautiful English gardens adorn the back of the manor. Breakfast was the highlight of each morning. The food was amazing and we had lively conversations with the other guests of their adventures in Mt. Airy and beyond. Robin gave us the history of the manor and it is obvious she treasures the memories of the former owner and his family. Robin is such a gracious host and she makes each guest feel special. We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast and will return next time we are in Mt. Airy. Matt and Mary - Williamsburg, VA

Yep, Mt. Airy is the real life hometown of Andy Griffith and his shows (The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD) reflected where he grew up. A few hundred feet from Sobotta Manor B&B is the Andy Griffith Museum and a cast bronze statue of Andy and Opie heading to the water hole. So when you walk into the Sobotta you go back in time - the furnishing, the decorations, the architecture - and you just don't want to leave. Excellent breakfast and a good time - and tons of stories! - was had by all. Definitely a place to unwind!

The food and atmoshpere was great...Would definitely go again.

We had a last minute opportunity to help out at the Budbreak wine festival in Mount Airy and wanted to make a quick get away out of it. Places to stay in Mt Airy are few and far between and not in line with places that we usually stay at. We were very lucky that Sobotta had a last minute cancellation. There is usually a 2 night minimum on the weekends, but since it was last minute, we were very pleased that Robin was able to accomodate us for one night. We stayed in room 3 and it was beautiful. The room was tastefully decorated in warm inviting colors and the king sized bed was very comfortable making it difficult to drag ourselves out for breakfast. As comfy as the bed may be, do not miss the breakfast as it will be the highlight of your stay. The bathroom in the suite was period decorated and made us feel like we were back in time. This room overlooks the beautiful gardens. Although this was an overcast, chilly weekend, we were able to spend some time outside in the garden enjoying a bottle of wine and the serenity of the setting. There are cats that wander around outside as well as a groundhog and plenty of birds that add interest to the area. The house is within walking distance of downtown and several restaurants which makes it super convenient when enjoying a bottle of wine at the manor or restaurant. In the morning, we were able to enjoy a cup of coffee in the livingroom with the other guests before breakfast. The couches are deep and comfortable and the coffee was great. Robin outdoes herself with the gourmet breakfast and will accomodate dietary preferences and restrictions. The breakfast was the perfect pace allowing for both digestion and conversation. Overall, this is a great B&B in a great little town that offers nostalgia, relaxation and adventure meeting the desires of everyone.

This is a lovely old home with wonderful history and beautiful gardens. Was disapointed in the breakfast as I had requested special diet for one guest and it was never conveyed to person in charge, however, they attempted to make do. Quiche was burned on top and served two mornings...just expected more as I know owner writes for a travel magazine and critiques bed an breakfasts occasionally, but enjoyed Mt. Airy and staying in the lovely old home.

The Bedroom and Breakfast were outstanding, could not have been better...after all, isn't that what a Bed & Breakfast should be all about!! However, there was much in the way of a bonus that added to our stay; hospitality, laid back, restful, stories, history, quiet, location, basically, very upscale-small town "Mayberry"!!! My wife and I plan to go back!!

This being our first time to a B&B, it was a very nice experience. Robin the host of the home made it very inviting for my husband and I on Valentines. She made it very comfortable and made us feel very welcomed just like being at home. In the short stay that we had we would definitely think in taking a longer trip next time. She recommended several great places in the area to try even though we were complete strangers to our surroundings. It is an area we would like to visit it in time and with it being not far from home it will be a great weekend getaway and a very inexpensive trip with lots of fun and relaxation. It was a lovely home and wonderful breakfast. We really enjoyed ourselves.

We had a very lovely stay for just the one night we were there. We had to cut our three day visit short because of a death in the family and they were very accommodating about it. We look forward to returning to experience Mayberry in the spring.

We found your Bed and Breakfast to be a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. The innkeeper made us feel right at home and provided many helpful suggestions regarding the attractions in Mount Airy.Needless to say, the town took us back to the years when life was much simpler. Thank you so much.

We actually gave the Sabotta Lodge to our Daughter and Son In Law. New job, active marine reserveist and a 27 month they have never been a way from. They are still talking about the wonderful room, the hospitality, the wonderful food, especially their special "Chocolate Breakfast", and being able to relax. Now I am jealous and want to go there as well. We are looking at booking the lodge for our whole family as a "Wonderul Get A Way Weekend" together. Thank you for having such a warm and wonderful Lodge that lets you sit back and enjoy the moment that God has given us all Sharon Smith

My husband and I along with our "four-legged" child stayed 3 nights at Sobotta Manor and it was the most wonderful B&B we have ever experienced. I had researched many places to stay in the area it online. We were going to visit the NC wineries and needed a good location to make our base We were soo glad we chose this one. It was even more beautiful in person than the website shows. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and felt right at home. This place just felt very homey the minute we stepped in the doorway. Beautiful fall decorations adorned every room and each room had gleaming hardwood floors, lovely antiques, oriental rugs, and all the amenities of home. Our room was warm and inviting with wine color walls and ensuite bathroom. The King bed was heavenly... like sleeping on a soft cloud. It was a welcome retreat after a full day of touring the area. We enjoyed sitting in the parlor each night chatting with the Inn Keeper Robin and her assistant Christy about the area and activities to do. They were very helpful with a wealth of information on the area restaurants, wineries, etc. and we definately enjoyed getting to know them as well. Our four-legged child got lots of love and attention by the girls. Being pet friendly for well mannered pets was certainly a big plus for us as it can be very daunting to find accomodations that allow them. Robin has pets herself and she understands that they are truly family members. Breakfast time is not to be missed! The dining room table was elegantly decorated in warm fall colors and the place settings were gorgeous. We had a fabulous breakfast each morning , both the presentation and the food were outstanding...my personal favorite was their signature collards and ham quiche! I even picked up a delicious new recipe or two! If you get the chance to visit this B&B I highly recommend it...you will NOT be dissappointed! Jan and Steve....and Brinkley

My husband and I utilized Sobotta Manor's elpoement package and what a wonderful experience it was!! We were waited on hand and foot, provided with excellent accommodations and the food was absolutely fabulous. We intend to return each year for our anniversary :) I can't thank you enough for making our special day perfect in every way. You guys are amazing!

Three wonderful nights at this lovely and gracious establishment. Wish we could have stayed longer. Room well appointed and comfortable (and quiet.) Robin conducted two days of wine tours (5 wineries each day) including picnic lunch with linen napkins. Breakfasts were a joy - to the eye and the taste. Beautiful large gardens for nice walks. We will return!!

Your beautiful B&B was a highlight of our trip. Your home is so charming and filled with outstanding design and touches. All the rooms were lovely with cozy and comfortable bedding and warmth. Most of all your B&B is immaculate; staff friendly; and breakfast elegant and fit for a king and queen. Jacques Cajan (Paris, France) and Lois Prybis (Hilton Head Island, S.C.)

What a delightful find! We spent two nights and the owner even baby sat our Shi Tzu so my wife and I could have an adult dinner at Trios in downtown Mt. Airy. The accomodations were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I had a wonderful stay at the Sobotta. Robin and Christy were excellent hosts. They made me feel right at home Their breakfasts were delicious. The inns decor and gardens are very inviting. I had room #1 on the first floor. I loved the marble shower that also has a built in bench to sit on. I loved Sobotta so much that I stayed an extra night instead of heading home. I will ddefinitely be going back to stay there.

This was probably the highlight of our fall vacation . Had never been to Mr. Airy before and I was really thrilled with Soboto Manor. Wish I could have stayed longer. I would rate Christy, the chef, probably a 5-star. The food was fantastic. They were very accommodating in making our stay very comfortable and relaxed. Again, if you have not been, make an effort to stay at Soboto Manor in Mr. Airy, NC. Thanks Robin, Junior and Christy. ..The Smith's.

We stayed at Sobotta Manor for the second year in a row celebrating Mayberry Days, 2012. Sobotta is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. We arrived earlier(11a.m.) than the 3 p.m. check in time, but was met graciously by Christy who immediately welcomed us in and showed us to our second floor room. The room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Breakfast was served each morning promptly at 9 and on some days the time was changed to meet the needs of all of us guests. Breakfast was at least 2 courses and very elegantly prepared and served....a treat all in itself and was looked forward to each morning....(The recipes were even shared with us). We were given our own key to come and go as we pleased. In the evenings there was always dessert and coffee and cold drinks available to us. Robin and J.R., the owners, were very gracious hosts and engaged us all in friendly fellowship with each other Sobotta is within walking distance of the main town, shops, theater, museums, restaurants, and the friendliest people you will ever meet. We booked Sobotta again for next year's Mayberry Days, 2013, not only for the beauty of Sobotta, but for all the new friends we meet each year.

Mt. Airy is promoted as The Friendly City and it certainly was. The people were warm and welcoming. Sobatta Manor was a wonderful stay. The house and gardens were beautiful, very well kept and very clean. Enjoyed visiting w/ the other guests and also had plenty of privacy. The home was an easy and enjoyable walk to Main St. and surrounding areas. We enjoyed great food, wines, shopping and sites.

This was my second trip to Mt. Airy, and my first stay at Sobotta Manor. It will not be my last! This B&B is truly a find. The home is a gorgeous mansion with a comfortable library, exquisite gardens and beautiful, large rooms. I spent several hours on the peaceful porch overlooking the gardens. The breakfasts were delicious and huge. Christy went out of her way to accommodate my dietary issues. I very much enjoyed meeting and sharing breakfast with the other guests. The hosts were extremely gracious. The owner was extremely kind about waiting for me, as I checked in a few hours late and helped with suggestions of events, places to eat, music concerts, etc. Overall, a fantastic visit. I can't wait to come back! Stayed August 2012

Great little B&B in a small town. Perfect for our one night stay over on a long trip back home! Nothing beats a bottle of wine on the side porch before a nice long sleep in the beautiful rooms!

We spent five days at the Sobotta and enjoyed every one of them. We felt as though we were in our own home. The sitting room was beautiful with comfortable furnishings. The patio was delightful and a great place to visit with other guests. Christy's breakfasts were amazing! I wanted to steal every one of her recipes. The presentation was professional and a joy to look at each morning. We would go back in a heartbeat if we just had more vacation time!

Very enjoyable stay. The house was lovely and not overdone. Loved the old room keys and the architectural details. Breakfast was delicious and ample. The garden was a delight as was the side porch for morning coffee. Nice walking distance to downtown Mt. Airy.

I found the Sobotta Manor on the web while looking for a place for my wife and I to stay near the Galax, Virginia area. We originally intended to stay there for two nights but ended up staying for three. Sobotta is a beautiful inn (inside and out) located within walking distance of the Andy Griffith Museum and downtown Mount Airy. Robin's breakfasts were an outstanding gourmet tour de force. Each morning's offerings were different and delicious. Our hosts gave us two of their season passes to see a live performance of a local Beach Music band at the Mount Airy Ampitheater. Being originally from the west coast, our concept of beach music was entirely different than what we found Carolina Beach Music and the "Shag" to be. It was an enjoyable education for us. My wife and I have stayed in many B & Bs including some that are/were lighthouses and we both think that Sobotta Manor is an outstanding value in a remarkable location.
5 on August 19, 2012
Sobotta Manor is fantastic! We have stayed at other B&B's, however Sobotta Manor ranks as the best. The whole house is beautiful, the breakfast is great, and Christy was very friendly and made us feel right at home. We plan to return, and will recommend Sobotta Manor to our family and friends. I have stayed in several B&B's and Sobotta ranks right at the top. The pictures are up to date and accurately reflect the beauty of the house. Breakfasts were hearty, delicious, innovative and beautifully served. The staff was friendly and accommodating......If the light in the bathroom (over the sink) had been working I would have ranked the room outstanding, also. I would definitely recommend Sobotta Manor to my friends!

We had the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation experience. Our hosts became instant friends. We were treated like family even though we were only there overnight. The ambiance was very homey. The room was very lovely and the bed was very comfortable. We were very pleasantly surprised with the gourmet breakfast. The menu was comparable to any high end restaurant. We dined with two other couples and enjoyed each other's company. We will absolutely return especially to take their winery excursion in their Limo.

The Sobotta is tops when it comes to Bed and Breakfasts and was a perfect retreat for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The hosts are gracious, the food is wonderful and the location is very close to downtown Mt. Airy. I enjoyed my stay so much that I wish I could go back again this weekend!

We stayed at the Sobotta over a weekend and had a great stay. The house is beautiful and immaculately kept, and the breakfast both mornings was exceptional. It was also a short walk to "Mayberry". I highly recommend the Sobotta for anyone visiting Mount Airy.

I couldn't bear to just go to the Mecklenburg County Courthouse to tie the ultimate knot and was so glad to come across this little gem in the heart of "Yapa" Valley. Considering the fiancé popped the question in Napa Valley- being a Carolina girl I knew I wanted to take him to the North Carolina version for our wedding night. It just so happened as I was looking for a place to spend that night, I found Sobotta Manor- and they offer “Elopement” packages!!! It basically fell out of the sky- thank you! I all but blindfolded the poor man who was to become my husband; just told him to take the day off and dress for an outdoor wedding. We weren't sure what to expect- the main owner Robin was out of town with her family so the home was left in the care of Christy, the innkeeper and JR, Robin's husband. If you only speak to JR on the phone, you might not get the sense that Sobotta Manor is his labor of love, or that he has the warmest look in his eyes when he smiles. But it is, and he does. I woke up bright eyed and very much enjoyed the specially prepared patio breakfast- complete with our flowers from the day before and a perfectly put together wedding album Christy had made after she got off work the night before. Was an absolute dream, and all thanks to the people in it. Sorry this review is painfully long but it WAS our wedding day, after all... ;) If you made it through- thanks for reading, and do put Sobotta Manor on your trip list.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay and if we return, we will certainly stay again. Very relaxing and the best breakfast ever.
5 on April 26, 2012
Our wonderful breakfasts were served in the dining room with style, and the food was absolutely wonderful. Each morning we treated to a different 3 or 4 course delight, ranging from French toast to Quiche - and all different. We spent 4 nights and never had the same breakfast twice. We thought we'd try our first B&B and so glad I chose the Sobotta Manor to spend our vacation at. It’s hard to know how to start to describe the experience. Staying in this grand old home with JR, Robin and Christy, was like a trip to visit friends. They were exceptionally friendly and very knowledgeable about Mayberry and the wineries and helping us get around, yet giving us our privacy. Perfect is the word! We stayed in room #3 located on the second floor. Our room was so beautiful and tastefully decorated. There was a peace about our room and the Inn, that when we weren't touring/tasting, we cuddled in our room and read or strolled through the beautiful gardens. Our room was very clean, no complaints. Susan

We were fortunate that Sobotta Manor had one room available when we called on Friday afternoon at 2:30 PM. It was a lovely room that was very quiet overlooking the street. Thoughtful details in the room and bath were evident and we had everything we needed for a restful stay. The innkeeper gave us good advice about local dining, and the breakfast the next day was quite special. We only had a short visit and did not have time to enjoy the gardens or socialize as we had to get back to Raleigh with a rental car. We recommend this B&B for visitors to Mt. Airy.

We loved our stay at Sobotta Manor - what a lovely home and we appreciated all of the extras that made it so special! The room was gorgeous and the bed was so comfortable! Breakfast was incredible - we felt so pampered and relaxed. The innkeeper, Christy and the owner, Junior were a pleasure to meet! They were both very friendly and helpful! Excellent service. We will be back!!

Jean and I had the most delightful visit. The Inn itself was most accommodating and the Innkeeper, Christie, was a fabulous host with the most amazing culinary skills - as taught by Robin, the co-owner, of the Sobotta Inn. The Inn was adorned with fascinating antiques and given it was the holidays during our stay included very festive decorations. The breakfast meals were equivalent to dining at an upscale Los Angeles restaurant - each entree was as delightful to look at as it was to eat. A truly wonderful gem in the midst of Mayberry RFD.

My husband and I have stayed in a lot of B&B's and this one ranks high on our list. Christie, the manager, was very friendly and suited to the job. We had some interesting conversations with her. Breakfast was excellent. The location is just right for touring Mt. Airy and surrounding area. One thing I liked about our room was the bathroom. Each bedroom has it's own original bathroom, not an add on. Sometimes bathrooms added later in older houses tend to be small. These are spacious with original tile. Our bed was comfortable as well. We would not hesitate to recommend the Sobotta Manor to our friends and family.

The Sabotta Manor is a beautiful and comfortable inn, run by equally special people (and two small, friendly and very special pups!). Owners Robin and JR are accommodating and attentive, and are very helpful in advising how to navigate the local area, including the "Mayberry" village of Mt. Airy, local restaurants, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the wineries, etc. Be sure to treat yourselves to JR's wineries tour in the manor's luxurious limo; you can see the beautiful countryside, taste all the wines and leave the driving to him. He is a wealth of information regarding the wineries and their restaurants. The manor's breakfasts are exceptional, and innkeeper Christy is an artist in the kitchen. The home itself is beautiful. Our room was comfortable and spacious, with a large bathroom and walk-in closet. The bed was extremely comfortable, as was the furniture throughout the manor. The Sabotta Manor is worth a trip to Mt. Airy. We will be back.

We loved our stay at the Sobotta Manor! We were traveling with another couple, celebrating a retirement and our 30th anniversary. The Sobotta Manor was so comfortable, welcoming, beautifully furnished, and served a wonderful breakfast-southern hospitality at it's best! Staying at bed and breakfast inns while traveling was a new experience for us, and we would definitely stay at Sobotta Manor again.

I travelled solo to VA to visit family in June. I used the Sobotta Manor as my stop over. What an elegant English Tudor home. My bedroom was very spacious; bathroom adequate. The hospitality was over the top and so was the breakfast. I would definitely stay there again. I am a gardener and loved the secret gardens in the back yard. The only negative - I was a little concerned that I had to park my car over night on the main street going into town. It is a small town and not a lot of traffic, so it worked out ok.
4.8 on June 29, 2011
Sobotta Manor far exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful property with outstanding decor, service and dining. Robin, JR and Christy were gracious hosts and our two breakfasts were excellent. Clayton and Cher really made it like home. Sobotta Manor was worth the drive off of the interstate for our road trip.

Stayed at the Sobotta Manor during our driving tour of Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. Christy was very accommodating about our uncertain arrival time. Our room was comfortable and nicely appointed. The covered porch overlooking the gardens was comfortable and a great place to read or do a puzzle. We were encouraged to be at home and it really felt that way. The public rooms are inviting and comfortable. Easy walking distance to "downtown". Christy provided great directions and recommendations for dinner. Breakfast was excellent, just the proper size portions and very delicious. Two small drawbacks, the old fashion key system was inconvenient and I would be concerned if I had to leave the room in a hurry and the parking on street, on a fairly well traveled road. Would recommend to anyone stopping to visit Andy Griffith's hometown.

The Sobotta Manor B&B proved to be even better than expected. The interior is absolutely wonderful. The furnishings are beautiful and the beds were absolutely incredibly comfortable. Each bedroom has its own bath and the suite I stayed in was lovely. We made wonderful use of the lovely backyard garden area, the side covered porch and wonderful living room with fireplace. The breakfast was beautifully presented and very tasty. My only regret is that I did not have most days to spend there. I highly recommend this B&B.

My husband and I were interested in spending a weekend in the Yadkin Valley area to be able to visit several of the wineries. We had recently received a BedandBreakfast.com gift certificate, and wanted to use that as part of our getaway. Our search lead us to discover the perfect gem of Mt. Airy - The Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast. Our stay was PERFECT! Immediately upon arrival, we were treated to fresh baked cookies complimentary soda/water and a walk through the lovely back yard garden. Our room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable, I felt like I was sleeping in a cloud! Breakfast each of the two mornings we stayed was phenomenal! Christy was so friendly and attended to every need of all of the guests. Plus, our use of their Excursion Limo with a driver to be able to visit so many wineries in one day was amazing. When we return to the area to visit more wineries (since you can't possible do all of them in even one weekend) we will definitely consider staying at the Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast for more Southern Hospitality at it's best!

We were asked if we needed fresh towels, if we wanted the bed made up, we had to ask. Not a big deal, but I have never had this at a B&B before. When I go away, I like to be pampered which includes having someone else make up my bed

Our stay was outstanding. It has been years since we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast. We thought we would try it at My. Airy, since it was with in walking distance of the town. We were not disappointed. We were greeted as soon as we arrived, helped to our room and the explained places to visit, eat, etc. We had a great time and both of us believe it was because of stay at Sobotta.

Robin & JR were wonderful hosts. We had never stayed at a B&B before and weren't sure what to expect but their hospitality made us feel as if their home was also ours.Their wonderful personalities shown in the stories they told of the history of the "manor" and it's beautiful gardens. The rooms were BEAUTIFUL, spacious, and clean with a VERY comfortable king-sized bed. We would HIGHLY recommend this B&B to anyone looking to spend time visiting in Mt Airy, NC.

Sobotta Manor was better than our expectations. We had never been to a B&B and decided we would celebrate our 40th anniversay at Sobotta Manor. We are now sold on B&B's we had such a wonderful experience. The house was decorated beautiful for fall and our room was very clean and comfortable. I would have loved to take the bed home with us. The food looked too good to eat and tasted even better. Robin and JR were the perfect Hosts. I would highly recommend on giving them a try and you will be like us, can't wait to go back. I recently stayed 2 nights at the Sobotta Manor B&B and had a wonderful time! The home is absolutely beautiful and everything was done to perfection. Robin is a gracious host and made sure her guests were comfortable and well-taken care of. And the food was outstanding! Every morning it was a treat to wake up to a delicious breakfast. I look forward to my next visit.

We've been to many Bed & Breakfast homes over the years and have found this jewel in the rough. It is a historic home with the most modern conveniences that make it stand out among the very best in the country. The extra special catering to our needs and desires was tops on the agenda for both host,Thurman Hester, and hostess, Robin Hester. Highly recommend this Mt. Airy, North Carolina, home to all who travel in this direction.

...in fact you may fall in love with Sobotta Manor like we did, our original itinerary was for 2 nights but we decided to stay another. Robin, Junior and Christy were the most gracious hosts we could have hoped for. It was our 10th anniversary and we could have stayed anywhere, lucky for us my wife found Sobotta Manor and being the dog lover she is was immediately attracted to due to Cher and Clayton the "Real" furry four-legged owners. The rooms and amenities were immaculate and luxurious, the breakfasts were fabulous and the hospitality priceless. We took the wine tour with Junior and were amazed at the variety of the vineyards Take the tour you will not regret it, but remember finish with the zip line. Will we stay again? There is no doubt that as long as Robin and Junior are owners we will. Rick and Ruth Lewis Raleigh, NC

What a great place to stay. A beautiful house, a great room and wonderful hospitality. The breakfast was wonderful. My wife and I enjoyed reading and relaxing in the parlor area. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was the little touches that made this a special place like making your own coffee anytime in the Keurig coffemaker and the fresh cookies. If your in the Mount Airy area I would highly recomment this B & B.

The photos were beautiful, and the room was great. Comfortable bed, but the t.v was tiny in a large armoire. Bathroom only had a sit in tub with hand shower, okay.....but would have liked to have known it. No wine reception. Owner way to interested in using the blower to get rid of leafs....it was fall, I expected to see some leafs. Breakfast was good.....hostess was very nice and personable.

What a great B&B. The houses is beautiful , the breakfasts were out of this world and Junior, Robin, Clayton & Cher were the wonderful hosts. All the extra touches such as coffee, water and soda available all the time along with the magazines and books made you feel as it you were at home. We loved being able to walk into town. "Mayberry" is charming and everyone is so friendly. With the vineyards and Blue Ridge Parkway so close, there is lots to do. We will definitely be back to stay at Sobotta Manor again.

We enjoyed our second visit to Sobotta Manor and will plan to go back next year. The Inn is relaxing and lovely, with wonderful accomodations. The breakfasts are fantastic and the Inn-keepers are friendly and helpful. Having stayed at other B&Bs before, I would have to give this one a top rating on food, service and rooms. We love being able to walk downtown and feel a part of the small town atmosphere. The location is also great for checking out the Yadkin Valley wineries.

Such a beautiful house. Robin and Junior made us feel like part of their family, providing information abour Mt. Airy and local restaurants. The grounds and house are imaculate. Most comfortable bed ever. Getting to visit with the other guests before breakfast was most interesting, and the breakfast itself was delicious and so well presented. We have visited Mt. Airy twice so probably will not be going there again, but if we do we most certainly will stay at Sobotta Manor.

My first experience with a bed & breakfast, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I had a great time. Robin & J.R. were fantastic hosts and Christy was very cordial & helpful. As my wife said, "I felt like a guest ... not merely a customer." I think that covers it. We also enjoyed getting to know the guests who stayed both nights that we did.

This is our third visit to the Sobotta Manor and as usual our stay was wonderful. You couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Robin and JR. are like family and make your stay extremely comfortable. The place is beautiful and the food wonderful! I always also get the best rest there then the rest of the entire year! The beds are heavenly. I would recommend a stay here for anyone. We are already looking forward to our visit next year! the Parkers

My husband and I wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast in Mt. Airy, so we looked in the internet and chose the Sobotta Manor. We were more than pleasantly surprised at how lovely the grounds were and the home is in wonderful condition. Very clean and inviting rooms. The innkeepers were so warm and inviting we felt as though we had known them forever, and to say that the breakfast was wonderful is just not enough. It was served so elegantly and it was so good you didn't want to leave the table. I truly hope we can visit there again.

We have now been to the Sobatta Manor three times and have taken the wine tour twice and are looking forward to our next visit. The rooms are luxurious, the food outstanding, and the service is excellent.

Recently, we planned a trip with our friends from Ohio; we wanted to meet half way and Mt Airy was perfect...what we didn't know is where to stay until we found the Sobotta B & B. We did our research and agreed it was the place to stay. When we arrived, we were greeted by Christy who gave us the grand tour of the lovely home; she was very helpful for our visit recommending things to do and places to eat. Then we went to our room! Oh my goodness! It was so spacious and beautiful....we even had our own private bath. We felt so at "home"!!! Then the great surprise in the morning....an awesome, filling breakfast!!!! Each morning we were surprised with something outstanding. I also found out that they were pet friendly! The B & B has one room that allows pets:) The gardens were so beautiful and peaceful!!! Thank you for a grand time! We will definitely go back to the Sobotta B & B!

Luckily, my husband and I booked a room at the Sobotta via their website just 5 days before our arrival date, and I have no regrets. The home was beautiful and tastefully decorated. On our arrival, my husband and I noted the warm and inviting ambience of the foyer and parlor - the furniture wasn't antiquated, but rather, a cozy place to just sit and relax or read (there are lots of fairly current books and mags). Our first floor room (#1) has a private entry, and was beautifully decorated in my favorite colors of greens, plums and taupe. Also, did I mention the sheets? They are the softest, most luxuriant sheets this gal has ever slept in! The owners were away on vacation, but Christi (sp?) took good care of us. She was a one-woman show - breakfasts were excellent, as anticipated, and we had great conversations around the table with the houseguests, and Christi chimed in with suggestions for dinner and things to do locally. What else can I say? Of all the B&B's we've visited, The Sobotta is in my top three favorites!

When we decided on taking a trip to Mt. Airy, NC to spend a few relaxing days without spending it in a cookie cutter hotel, we searched the Internet and came across Sobotta Manor B&B. A good photographer can make a dump look like a castle but we felt that this would be a castle and we were so right. The Hesters kept a beautiful home much as it was when built. The woodwork is amazing, everything is spotless and no expense has been spared to make a stay very pleasant. We were greeted at the front door by Cher and Clayton, who thinks he owns the place. Cher especially loves tummy rubs and will allow you to spoil her to your heart's content. The beautiful garden at the rear of the home is tended faithfully by Jr and is a very peaceful spot to sit and read, meditate, whatever. Borrow a book from the library if you wish. Main St and many of the local attractions are within easy walking distance or a 5 minute drive. Each morning's breakfast was made fresh and included fresh fruit and berries as well as tomatoes fresh from their garden. Coffee and tea are always available as well as a fridge stocked with cold beverages. We enjoyed our stay and don't hesitate to recommend you spend some time with the Hesters at Sobotta Manor.

You will NOT find better people or personal service than you will at Sabotta Manor. I stayed there last weekend on a NC vineyard weekend getaway and was blown away by Junior and Robin's hospitality. The inn is absolutely beautiful while also feeling like home. Robin's breakfasts are OUT OF THIS WORLD. I would recommend Sabotta Manor to anyone looking for a special weekend away from home.

I had the most amazing experience at Sobota Manor B and B. I went on a wine tour with 9 other girlfriends and we all had nothing but a great experience and fantastic things to say about Robin and Junior. The food, service, generosity and kindness were outstanding. They catered to our every need. I will definitely be going back soon.

We just got back from a weekend at Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast and the weekend can be summed up in one word...Incredible. Mr. and Mrs. Hester are two of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. They are not only amazing people but run an outstanding B and B. The food was incredible, the decor is impeccable, and the hospitality was first class. This was my first B and B experience, but I know that the bar has been set high and will be hard to top or even come close. I am counting down the days until I get to go back. You are in for a vacation of a lifetime at Sobotta.

I could not have asked for a better place to stay during my first visit to Mt. Airy. Robin and Junior were wonderful hosts and very accomodating to all of my needs. The Sobotta Manor far exceeded my expectations! The house was beautifully decorated and was kept immaculate! I had one of the best nights sleep at the Sobotta, and Robin's cooking was amazing! Robin and Junior were the most loving and caring people. The best part about this trip was getting to meet them! I would recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and enjoyable get-a-way. I cannot wait to go back! Thank you to the Hester's for being such wonderful hosts!

Sobotta Manor provided the perfect weekend getaway for our group of friends. Everything was perfect -- the rooms and the FOOD were outstanding, and Robin and Junior were the most gracious hosts!!

This B and B will meet all of your expectations and more and beyond. We went with ten girls for a Wine Weekend and spent both nights at the BandB. Robin and Junior were quite possibly the most wonderful hosts ever and made our trip more like a vacation. The breakfast they served was first class! Robin helped me plan our wine tours (which she helped include in our cost). After the first vineyard she met us there with a picnic lunch which was incredible. Each morning we woke up to the smell of coffee and home cooked meals :) If I could tell everyone person in the world about my experience at the Sabotta BandB I would. It truly was an experience of a life time. If you want a place where you are in a total state of relaxation, want to enjoy time with friends and family, and eat drink and laugh all day then this place is the place for you. I can assure that I will be going back at Christmas time and every year for a Wine Weekend!

Immaculately clean rooms, manicured grounds, gorgeous home, elegantly-relaxed common rooms. From the time you enter the door to the time you close it on your way out, your are attended with warmth, care and attention. Staff is there when you need them and seeimingly away when you don't. Wonderful getaway....my only regret is I didn't have two more nights to stay there. Some of the best sleep I've had in months. Thanks, Robin & JR.....Allen

We had a wonderful time at the Sobotta Manor! The home is fabulous with all of the original woodwork and the nooks and crannies that depict a prosperous home. Our room was meticoulsy clean with many additional ammenities and the bed was dreamy! Breakfast was delicious, bountiful, and so tastefully presented. We even had live classical music to enjoy while we ate. Our hosts were delightful, took us on a tour of the home and readily shared stories about the house and the community. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. There were many opportunites to sit and relax amongst them. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return.

This was mine and my husbands first time staying at a B&B and Sobatto Manor went above and beyond our expectations. The host and hostess provided us with a relaxed atmosphere that was lovely. I was curious with staying at a house vs. a hotel how loud it would be if you could hear the other guests but the house was built so structurally sound you can't hear a thing. Not only was the facility extremely clean, but the architecture of the home is a site to see. Junior and Robin were down to earth and welcomed us in their home like we were family and provided us with as much and as little interaction that you wanted. My husband is not much for traveling and he already wants us to book a room again soon. All in all a great place to stay to get away from it all.

Sobotta Manor B&B was above our expecations. We are in the lodging industry (deluxe log cabins) and it is often difficult to find a place that is as nice as what we rent to our guests at Hidden Mountain Resorts. We found it here and it was ABOVE our expectations. Robin and Junior Hester are the perfect innkeepers - warm and gracious, wonderful story tellers about the history of Sobotta Manor and the history of Mt Airy - terrific gourmet chefs as the meals were a delight to the tastebuds as well as to the eye. We will be telling people about them from now on and have already reserved a 2-night stay for our daughter & her husband so that they too may enjoy a wonderful stay at Sobotta Manor. May God continue to richly bless Robin & Junior Hester.

Robin and JR were so kind to us during our very brief stay. We were in town to enjoy a graduation of 2 nieces. It was a quick but, wonderful experience to have their very good care. The food was fabulous and the room was perfect! Most of all, our hosts were the best. We wish all of our travel experiences were this great. Cheers to Sobotta Manor B & B ! We look forward to our return.

Our stay at Sobotta Manor was one of the most wonderful experiences we have had at the many B & B we have stayed at. The home is absolutely beautiful and homey and the formal gardens make you feel as if you are in another time. The hosts were very gracious & willing to do whatever to make our stay enjoyable. As my wife said Robin & Junior made us feel as if we had known them forever as soon as we walked through the door. The breakfast was very wonderful & Robin was so willing to work around my special diet.

The owners of this beautiful bed and breakfast were gracious and made you feel welcomed into their home as soon as you walked in the front door. If you get a chance to visit Mount Airy, don't pass on staying at this lovely B&B. It was truly a home away from home.

We couldn't think of a more enjoyable stay we've ever had. The home is luxuriously furnished and set in the most beautiful gardens. Robin & Junior are so very personable and friendly, enrapturing us with such great stories of Mt. Airy and serving the most delicious breakfasts, the kind one would expect in a 5 star hotel. Our most sincere recommendation. You won't be disappointed.
5 on May 26, 2010
Although we met for the first time when we checked in, our 4-day stay was like being in the home of a life-long friend. Coffee & soft drinks available throughout the day -- friendly conversations with other guests in the parlor before breakfast, and in the evenings Robin usually joined in. (Junior was out of town most of the time we were there -- but he is truly a super great guy!) Add to that great advice on things to do and places to see. It was a wonderful get-away for us and we made some precious new friends!

We only live an hour and a half away, but it had been a long time since we'd had time away from home. We needed a place relatively closeby to have a change of scenery and forget our normal routines. We were privileged to find Sobotta Manor. The inn was grand and took us back in time to a nostalgic and relaxed era. Our stay and the hospitality of the innkeepers made us feel as if we were the residents of this beautiful home. We enjoyed the tastefully appointed bedroom and adjoining bath and especially enjoyed the view from our room of the English garden. Our days took us to the nostalgic places to visit in Mt. Airy - the majority in walking distance of the inn. However, the greatest entertainment of the stay was Robin's very interesting stories of the history of Sobotta Manor. The stay was great in every way!

We recently stayed at the Sobotta Manor during a visit to the Mt. Airy region. The grand old home makes a wonderful bed and breakfast and Robin is the perfect hostess. Our room (#3) was peaceful and sophisticated and breakfast was amazing. From stuffed french toast with homemade bread to a wonderful quiche served with fresh fruit, we did not need anything until dinner! Robin's three dogs are angels as well. We plan to return to the Sobotta Manor on our next getaway.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Robin and the pups and given a tour of the Inn. Once we got up to our room, with a beautiful view of the garden we were very delighted by the room's decor and warmth that it offered. The bed was so very comfortable that we fell fast asleep within minutes of lying down and slept right through our dinner reservation at a nearby vineyard. In the morning the breakfast was served in the dining room and how wonderful it was and what a presentation. The atmosphere at the table, which was delightful thanks to Robin and her great since of humor, truly wonderful like a bunch of friends who had gathered for a meal. This was my first B&B and I truly enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for giving us a peaceful, relaxing memory.

The B & B of my choice. I always stay at B & Bs. This was my first at Sobotta Manor B&B. The accomaditions were wonderful and the food great. I have never taken the time to write a review about a bed and breakfast before as usually my expectations are met but rarely exceeded. We had the pleasure to stay in the glorious Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast and our experience was out of this world. The first moment we walked through the door into this lovely bed and breakfast, we were greeted by Clayton the resident dog and Robin the Innkeeper, I knew this was going to be a special weekend. As we walked thru the Inn, I quite simply was blown away with the initial feeling of quality and warmth. We stayed in Room #3 which was beautiful and the quality followed us from the front door and continued in every aspect of our room, it is quite difficult to express in words the attention to detail and quaity we experienced. We can't wait to return. Thank you Robin and Clayton for making us feel so special. THE FOOD, THE GLORIOUS FOOD, I MUST SAY, THE BEST I EVER HAD!

We rely heavily on reviews when booking trips -so it's our pleasure to review the Sobotta Manor with 5 stars. My husband and I decided to book a weekend getaway for my 30th birthday at the last minute. Not only did Robin accommodate us - she made it wonderful! Breakfast was truly gourmet and fabulously delicious. Sometimes places can make it a stuffy affair - not here though...you're treated well, but with a very homey touch. We even chatted it up with Robin for a while. She's a great host! Everything in the house is done right - the decor, the level of comfort with the guest in mind. We enjoyed cheese&crackers fireside in the evening, and watched a dvd that night in our room from their nice dvd library on our in-room flatscreen. A very nice place with a nice pricetag- we will stay here again - looking forward to either seeing the garden in the summer or catching the fall colors!

My wife and I spent our wedding night at the Sobotta Manor after a surprise snowstorm made driving out of town impossible. When we arrived Robin helped us with our luggage then gave us a tour of the house. The house is relatively old and Robin said that she and her husband had made an effort to keep everything in the house original; the house is lovely! Downstairs is a parlor with a fireplace, two large couches, and a gorgeous chess set. As this was only a week before Christmas there were Christmas decorations everywhere and Christmas music was playing in the parlor. Next to the parlor is the dining room where breakfast was served at 9am the next day. The breakfast alone is almost worth the trip to the Sobotta Manor! Robin cooked us an incredible three-course breakfast with chocolate pound-cake, a blackberry & raspberry parfait, and homemade apple fritters battered in eggnog. In addition she had a very nice selection of loose teas and teabags, and of course offered us juice and coffee to go with our breakfast. Though we could only stay for one night before heading to Charleston, my wife and I both loved the Sobotta Manor and are hoping we can find an excuse to go back!

We lucked into a one-night stay at Sobotta as part of a last-minute Yadkin Valley wine weekend - usually there is a 2-night minimum and I am so grateful that this worked out! Everything made for incredibly memorable weekend, especially the innkeepers' hospitality, delicious, leisurely Sunday breakfast and beautiful historic home. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend in "Andy Griffith Town," Mt. Airy, NC at the Sobotta Manor B & B. The most pleasant part of it was that main street in "Mayberry" was just a two block stroll. We parked our car on Friday afternoon after arriving and didn't have to move it again until we left on Sunday. After being met at the door by the "host" and the "mascots," we were introduced to the "Manor" of the Sobotta. Beautifully decorated Room #3 with a beautiful view of the gardens. The host "pulled back the covers" for us as we prepared to introduce ourselves for a relaxing weekend. We walked up the street and ate at Barney's Cafe and returned for a nice cup of coffee before sleeping on the most comfortable bed you could imagine. We wanted to be able to stay at a place that we didn't have to take the car anywhere....and we didn't until we left on Sunday. The breakfast on Saturday and Sunday were each freshly prepared by J.R. Waffles on Saturday and a Breakfast Casserole type dish on Sunday. Freshly brewed coffee complimented the food nicely along with the juice. The location made our "Mayberry" weekend so enjoyable but the comfort and ambience of the Sobotta Manor made it all worthwhile. You couldn't ask for better!!! Thanks J.R. and Clayton and Cher. P.S. Left some articles of clothing. They mailed them to me!! Outstanding!!

October 25, 2009 We have just returned from a wonderful two night stay at the Sobotta Manor B&B, a beautiful, warm, comfortable step back in time. Our hosts, Thurman and Robin Hester were gracious and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. The breakfasts were out- standing and were prepared and presented with excellent taste. Mount Airy in addition to being the home of Andy Griffith is located in the Yadkin Valley wine region and just a short distance from the Skyline Drive. This was by far our best B&B stay. This was my second visit to Sobotta B&B. The first was with my daughter and I loved it so much I had to bring my husband, who has always been a skeptic about staying in "someone's house". Now he is a believer. Robin and J.R. make you feel like you are family coming to visit them in their beautifully decorated home. The accommodations are luxurious with comfy beds that you just melt into, and the gourmet breakfast is always unbelieveable, served with attention to every detail. The gardens and patio are serene and relaxing and coffee, refreshments and treats are always available. They cater to your every whim and if asked, will tell you the interesting history of their beautiful home and of Mt. Airy. They are always willing to make any reservations you might need and to inform you of the wineries in the area. This is a B&B you will never forget.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great hostess with great culinary skills.

We travel with our dog, which presents problems with B&B's not at Sobotta. They were very accomodating.
5 on October 08, 2009
Just returned from a trip to NC, we stayed in five B&B's. The Sobotta Manor B&B was the best. Being dog lovers, we enjoyed the company of the two Bichon's who resided at the Sobotta Manor.

Sobotta Manor is in the heart of the charming town of "Mayberry USA". It's within walking distance of small boutiques and country stores and within an hour's drive from the heart of North Carolina's wineries and vineyards with tasting rooms and vineyard tours.

Our first 2 nights were at a motel which was not a great experience for us (everything was booked so we had no choice) but on Saturday we called and there were rooms available for Sunday & Monday night. The place beautiful, relaxing and you feel like you are home. Robin and Thurman are great. Clayton & Cher adorable. The food was exceptional. Maureen & Bob

The Sobotta Manor B&B is a beautiful, relaxing place to stay when you are in the Mt. Airy area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Our room was beautiful and comfortable, and the food was delicious! The hosts, Junior and Robin, were warm, friendly, and very helpful. We would highly recommend this B&B!

This place is absolutely beautiful and the hosts, Robin and Junior are most gracious! The Inn has been lovingly restored and offers the best in the comforts of luxury lodging. I would love to stay there again and again! The location is perfect for walking the quaint town of Mount Airy! We will be back!

Charming, romantic getaway in downtown Mt Airy. We loved the luxurious Sobotta Manor, the owners were very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area. A perfect vacation stay.
4.8 on September 24, 2009
Our hosts were extremely helpful in directing us to places of interest. Very friendly and the accomodations were great! Located in the heart of town, but it was so quiet inside, you did not realize there was traffic outside.
5 on September 17, 2009
Outstanding, Excellent and Far exceeded our expectations. We would recommend this B&B to everyone.

We stayed at the Bed and Breakfast for three nights. It is easy walking to downtown Mount Airy/Mayberry. I'm a type A and it's hard for me to relax if things aren't "right". Well, things are "right" at The Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast! I've stayed at many B&B’s; this would say this is one of our favorite stays! Breakfast was EXCEPTIONAL. All food was incredible and included fancy French toast, their home-made granola and sausage. Fresh baked goods, cookies and goodies are always available in the afternoon and into the evening; our favorite was the oatmeal cookies. There is a full library of movies - some very current/recently-released movies included. The garden is filled with tasteful and beautiful plantings and they share some freshly-cut flowers in your room. Robin and Junior attended to our every need, they loaned us pre-loaded navigation to area wineries, made amazing dinner suggestions and took care of the reservations. We could not review this Inn without a mention of the dogs, Clayton and Cher, they were well behaved and a joy to love on while we were away from our pups. This bed and breakfast is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway (15 minutes) and in the middle of the North Carolina and Yadkin Valley Wine Region. Worth every penny!
4.8 on September 10, 2009
All of the rooms have their own uniqueness, but we stayed in room 3, which was beautiful! The breakfast is "yummy" and so was the late night kithen goodies. This house is gorgeous. The antiques and moldings are exquiste. In the dining room, the wall paper came from Paris'. Wow, its the best B&B by far!!
4.6 on September 09, 2009
We loved Sobotta! It is artfully designed with exquisite decor and thoughtful touches everywhere. The landscaping is beautiful and the "backyard" is an oasis of greenery in a small town. Breakfasts are delicious and a real treat. You will enjoy this B & B and want to return again!

The Sobotta Manor was a great place to stay. We stayed there for three nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The food was great every morning and there were fresh baked goods available in the kitchen each day. They also provided complimentary beverages throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. TV and A/C in each room. Robin gave us some great ideas for our day trips and also made some excellent dining recommendations. The Manor is a very short walk from the downtown area and is also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and beautiful Pilot Mountain. Robin and Junior are very personable and made us feel like we were visiting friends instead of staying at an inn.
4.8 on August 14, 2009
The owners of the Sobotta Manor were very accomadating & friendly. Our room was tastfully decorated with all the trimmings for a romantic birthday weekend out of town. Robin catered to our every whelm, taking us to the best wine tastings the entire day. In the evenings we enjoyed sitting on the patio with a glass of wine admiring the garden. We will definatly come back to stay again...maybe even make it a yearly tradition. Thanks again Robin!
5 on August 14, 2009
We happened on this beautiful B&B on a recent visit to the North Carolina Wine Country. From the front door to the gardens, this house and host are to be treasured. Thurman and Robin, Clayton and Cher treated us like family. From the daytrip she planned to the Blue Ridge Parkway (complete with a stop at Nancy's Candy) we loved it! Breakfast was the best that we ever have had at any B&B. Don't hesitate to stay here, it is treasure! Also, walking distance to all things Andy Griffith.

Beautiful home, charming hosts, southern hospitality, elegant rooms, delicious breakfast....a delightful respite on our trip back to PA.
4.2 on August 11, 2009
Sobotta Manor is a very quiet, intimate bed and breakfast with a welcoming hostess, Robin, who accommodated a specific breakfast request. The meal far exceeded expectations as each course was elegantly served and tasted wonderful. The entire house was furnished and decorated beautifully, with a very comfortable bed complete with turndown service. A stroll through the gardens was relaxing and the grounds are gorgeous. The only concern that crossed our mind was the lock system on the bedroom door. The doors open with a skeleton key (fine from the outside), but also had to be opened to get out of the room, which could be awkward in an emergency situation. We couldn't find a place to plug in our laptop (a 3 prong plug), but were told after the fact that adapters were in the drawers, so you may want to know this if you need a 3 prong plug. Other than these very two minute issues, this is a beautiful bed and breakfast you will certainly enjoy.
4.4 on August 10, 2009
The inn itself was charming and every detail attended to, the grounds well maintained and inviting for strolls, however the real treaure here is the host and hostess: Robin and 'Junior'. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed and 'part of the family'-yet not imposed upon or obligated to engage. Robin was a font of information about the area and activity options, 'Junior' quick to help in anyway possible. Breakfasts were symbolic of the entire experiece- homey yet elegant, abundant and of course a little sweet to set the tone.
5 on August 07, 2009
The whole house is gorgeous. All of the spacious rooms are impeccably decorated; the bedrooms each have their own special look and included large private baths. Our room was very comfortable. The bed and pillows were soft and plush yet gave great support. The air conditioning featured a remote control to adjust the temperature while still in bed. The beautiful dining room, with the table set with fine china and crystal, made a fantastic setting for a breakfast that was definitely a gourmet’s delight.
5 on August 07, 2009
They treat you like a member of the royal family. I also enjoyed the stories of Mt Airy history, which Robin appears to be an expert.
5 on July 20, 2009
We wanted to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary in a special setting. We had never stayed at a B & B and didn't know if we would like staying in someone else's home. Robin made us feel like family. The decor is exquisite yet welcoming, the rooms were very comfortable and private, the breakfasts were delicious. We had a wonderful experience from the time we entered Mt. Airy until we departed. I would recommend the Sobota Manor to anyone wanting to have a great getaway.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Sobotta. It was our first stay at a B&B, and we were so pleased. We had some of the best quiche and french toast I've ever had, and the service was great. The house and gardens are so peaceful, and there is a lot to do in the area. There are so many wineries to visit and the Blue Ridge Parkway is very close by. Make sure you leave one of your days free because Robin and Junior will have all sorts of suggestions for what to do. We will definitely be back!!!
5 on May 31, 2009
My wife and I were also in Mt Airy for the BMW "Vintage in the Vineyard" over Memorial Day weekend. We like to stay in B&Bs whenever we can; with a few exceptions we've had very good luck. We hit the jackpot with Sobotta Manor--from friendly hosts--human and canine--to beautifully furnished rooms--to outstanding breakfasts... Robin and JR even arranged off-street parking for three prized old BMWs--mine and two friends' so we could sleep soundly knowing "our babies" were safe. The 1931 house was built by a local furniture manufacturer, who kept his factory craftsmen busy by producing all the georgous interior walnut woodwork. Our room was great---nice comfortable bed, big screen TV, vintage furniture...Robin's breakfasts were enough to make me forget about lunch--and almost dinner. All in all, just what a B&B should be. Better make my reservations for next year! Almost forgot--don't forget to check out the gardens in the back yard--they go back several hundred feet--a nice quiet place to just sit down and relax...

Our room was fantastic as was the service, food, gardens, and conversation. Very warm and amiable hosts!

I cant believe I am admitting this on B&B.COM but I dont like B&Bs. I like the anonymity of the chain hotel where I can go about my business with nary a conversation. OK, then why did I love Sobotta? It certainly isn't anonymous - We met a guest as soon as we pulled up front and Robin and JR met us soon thereafter. I have been asking that question for a few days now and I think the answer lies with those two - they have a knack for making you feel "at home". From the moment we arrived and they offered to put our perishibles in the fridge, to the departing wave, they treated us as welcomed guests, much like I feel when I visit a college roommate or an old Navy buddy. Yes, the house is gorgeous and comfortable and YES the food is haute down-home, but it was the welcome feeling we got that made me a B&B convert. I'm not giving up my Marriott Rewards card yet but if I'm ever near Mount Airy again you'll find me at "home".

Robin & Junior did their utmost to ensure that we had a wonderful time. My son & I were there for the 6th annual Vintage at the Vineyard BMW event at Shelton Vineyards. Great time there and enhanced by a superior experience at Sobotta Manor B&B. Thanks so much. We really appreciate your efforts!

Robin and JR were the perfect hosts for our lovely stay in this elegant B and B. Plus the mascots, Clayton a cheerful bichon and Char a ladylike "poochon", were wonderfully friendly and behaved. Our comfortable and spacious bedroom overlooked a beautifully manicured garden. How lovely it was in the afternoon light. Heaps of fresh berries and glazed French toast in the morning just made our vacation stop perfect

This was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast. Our stay at the the Sobotta Manor exceeded our expectations. It was wonderful; the service, ambience, food and the home gives you the feeling of a get away without the hotel experience. I will love to visit again. I will share the experience with my friends. A job well done Junior and Robin!!!!!

My finacee and I attended the Yakin Valley wine festival with some friends. We chose to stay at the Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast and I am glad we did. Not only was the house beautiful but the service was out of this world. I highly recommend staying at this great B&B. We have stayed at many B&B's and the Sobotta Manor has been the best by far.

We chose Sobotta Manor in Mt. Airy for a relaxing 27th anniversary get-away. Not only was there more to do in Mt. Airy than we expected, but Robin also added to our travel plans by suggesting places close by as well as on our trip home. Our hosts were very friendly and enjoyed sharing information on the area and the history of the Sobotta. We look forward to returning to Mt. Airy and staying with Junior and Robin at their newly renovated property next door and enjoying dinner at their restaurant. Although the food was wonderful, the grounds were lovely, and the house was beautiful, the hosts (including Clayton and Cher) are the reasons to stay at the Sobotta.

My girlfriend and I spent our one year anniversary here. Junior and Robin were great. The house is beautiful and in a great location. The limo wine tour they offer is a lot of fun and very relaxing. I really can't thing of anything negative to say about our experience. Even the dogs were perfect. This place is a must see.

We have to agree with the other people who rated the Sobotta with 5 stars. The house really is tremendous. Beautiful furniture, clean, it looked like it had just been professionally decorated with antiques and other first rate furnishings. The dining room was very regal with beautiful dishes and servings. The hosts were very friendly and informative. The breakfast was delicious. The two dogs who live there are very mellow and don't go looking for attention, but leave the guests alone after their initial barking at the door when we arrived. The rooms were first rate. Good TV and DVD player, with WiFi. High end clock radio/cd player in the bedroom. Snacks are readily available, as is one of those brew your own coffee/tea one cup at a time machines, which you can use during the day. If I have one thing that I didn't care for, it's the "European Shower" in our room, which requires you to use a hand held shower head, but provides no place to hang the shower head so that you can stand under the water. At least I couldn't figure out how to do that. The rooms (at least our room) had individual air conditioning units in the wall. Not those noisy in the window units that hotels have, but really nice units with remote controls. This makes it real easy to control your rooms temperature to your liking, independant of the rest of the house. It was too cold to spend time in the backyard during our stay, but they were very nicely kept, and had a formal quality to them, although they weren't overly large. In summary, I would say that this is one of the nicest B&B's that I've ever stayed in. If it was located in the California Wine country or other high end markets, it could easily charge twice the current rates, and be well worth it. We highly recommend it to everyone.

We had a wonderful stay at Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast. The house and garden are beautiful and the house is beautifully decorated. Then hidden away are wonderful 'comfort' items. The hosts were delightful and made us feel like long lost friends. Robin is a marvelous cook - the best breakfast I've had in many a year. They made dinner reservations for us at a restaurant at a nearby winery which was very good. I'd love to stay a week with them.

The Sabotta Manor is one of many B&B's that I have stayed at in the past ten years and I must say it exceeds all expectations. The rooms are elegantly furnished but yet give you a feeling of home. Robin was out of town but Junior was as gracious a host as you will find. We were served delicious meals, given wonderful suggestions for entertainment, given town history and at the same time given much privacy. I definitely will share our experience with family and friends.

This is a wonderful choice of lodging while you are in Mr. Airy. It goes along so well with the friendly streets, shops and people of the town. The house is full of polished wood that makes the home rich. Aromas that fill the rooms say "welcome". It is so tempting to just settle into the house with one of the many books available even though there are many things to do in town! There is a well stocked fridge full of most any beverage you may want as well as a delightful assortment of coffee. Robin keeps homemade sweet treats in the kitchen. She and her husband, J.R. give a detailed history of the house for those who are interested. Well worth your time. Amy & Michael Crump

While in town for work, my assistant and I stayed at Sobotta Manor and found it an incredibly comfortable place to work and sleep (and watch their vast collection of DVDs!) The beds were heaven, which is always the most important thing for a business traveler. Can't work without a good nights sleep! Also, I probably would've turned into a greasy biscuit if it weren't for Robin's delicious breakfasts -- there are no healthy and tasty options on a weekday in Mount Airy, so if fried food is not your idea of breakfast, you should try her omlettes, fritattas, pancakes and more. That aspect alone makes your stay there worth it!
5 on January 24, 2009
The Hester's have made Mayberry and random acts of kindness a misson. When I read the review's, I thought nothing and nobody is that nice. I was so wrong, Robin and Thurman and the pups would make Andy Griffith and the gang proud. The bed was comfortable and cozy and the breakfast, the best I ever had. We are going to tell all our friends of this lovely bed and breakfast and quaint town of friendly folks. Becky and Bill

The house is beautiful and so is the room and decor. The personal attention from the owner, Robin, made it feel like we were visiting a friend's house, not like an impersonal hotel. She very graciously delivers a breakfast in the morning! She is very funny, honest and extremely helpful and attentive to her guests. Her attitude and personal touches made this stay a highlight of our trip. Junior was helpful, insisting on carrying our bags. Clayton and Cher were sweet and well mannered. We enjoyed our wine tour and the personal attention that we got. We are putting together a group and returning in the spring. Best of the Yadkin Valley!

We just returned from our stay at Sobotta and had a wonderful experience. Robin and Junior were excellent hosts and the breakfasts were to die for! Our room was beautiful with a very luxurious bed and everything was very clean. We can't wait to go back in the spring when the flowers were in bloom, although the gardens were beautiful in the winter rain! Guess we had better get our reservations for then before they fill up! This get-away couldn't have been more perfect for us at a time when we really needed it. Completely stress-free. We will tell all our friends to go to Sobotta.

My husband, daughter and Silky Terrier, Abby stayed at the Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast on December 28th and 29th of this year. We came down from Ohio to attend my sister's wedding which was performed at Sobotta Manor. The whole experience was just wonderful! Robin and Junior were excellent hosts and from the moment I spoke to Robin on the phone to make our reservations I felt like I was being treated like family! Robin and Junior went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable but also respected our privacy when needed. The house and rooms were gorgeously decorated. The breakfast was just amazing! The food was presented beautifully, elegantly and was delicious beyond words! We felt like we were being treated like royalty! I'm hoping we can make a trip to back to Mount Airy someday on our anniversary and stay at the Sobotta Manor again. Jim and Sheila

We stayed for our honeymoon. Our room was beautiful! The house was delightful with beautiful furnishings! We never wanted to leave! The food was wonderful! Yummy! Everything downtown is walking distance, so we never had to leave our parking at the house. We toured the wineries with JR as our host and were treated like royalty at each of our stops; he knew all the owners and we were made to feel very special. It was great not to have to drive or try to find these hidden gems. We loved the Innkeepers (all of them) Junior and Robin and of course Clayton and Cher and found them to be very kind and helpful and the last two even cuddly! We would recommend it to everyone we know and plan to stay again! Alan and Debbie - Ocala FL

My husband and I spent a lovely autumn weekend at Sobatta Manor, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Innkeepers Robin and Junior were gracious and attentive without being intrusive. Robin's delicious 3-course breakfasts are not to be missed! Their dogs, Clayton and Cher are just adorable and added a touch of home for us. Mt. Airy is a charming town and Robin gave us great walking directions and restaurant suggestions. We had arranged a wine tour in the area, and Junior drove us around and gave great information about the wineries and stories about the area. If you're heading to the Yadkin Valley, arrange a stay at Sobatta!

My husband, daughter and I recently stayed at Sabotta Manor and were very impressed with the welcoming atmosphere we experienced the minute we walked through the door. We enjoyed our stay very much and cannot wait to return. Robin's cooking was excellent (every dish) and I appreciated the fact that once we were down for the night things were very quiet and we were not disturbed at all. If all of our stays were this nice, I would travel more often!

The Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast was a treat from beginning to end. The exterior was inviting, the shared areas comfy and beautifully decorated - very homey. Our hosts were welcoming and bent over backwards to make our stay rewarding. We welcomed their advice on wineries, shopping and dining. Our bedroom was large and very comfortable. Breakfasts were to die for. One morning we enjoyed a three course spread which concluded with wonderful french toast with a delicious blueberry reduction sauce. The next day's breakfast was highlighed by a spinach feta cheese quiche. (The hosts are nice enough to check food preferences and allergies in advance. ) I recommend this b & b highly.

They spared no expense on the bed it was a dream...The pups that live in the house were so sweet and were quite as they could be just great to get your doogie fix if you left your own pups behind. The breakfast was amazing lots of fresh fruit....yum! We would be happy to recommend it to anyone.

If you are going to Mt. Airy, NC, staying at the Sobotta Manor is a MUST! You won't be disappointed!
4.4 on August 12, 2008
Sobotta Manor is a beautiful B&B! Robin and Junior were excellent hosts and I enjoyed the storytelling about the original home owners as well as the tidbits about Mt. Airy. Being a dog-lover, I especially enjoyed Clayton and Cher! In addition to Mt. Airy and the sights of Mayberry, the Blue Ridge Parkway is only miles away. Be sure to head up to Pilot Mountain (Mt. Pilot) and drive to the summit. The view over NC is beautiful and there are wonderful hiking trails as well!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Sobotta Manor in July 2008. This was by far one of the best Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed at. Not only was the accomodations beautiful but the breakfast's were outstanding. Junior and Robin were great host. I would highly recommend the Sobotta Manor to anyone just wanting to get away to relax and be pampered. We are hoping to return in the future. Steve & Millie Hardeman

Wonderful and engaging hosts in a fantastic location close to restaurants, shops and downtown. One of the best B&B experiences we've ever had; so good that we have stayed here a few times now and look forward to our next visit with Junior and Robin. A "must stay" if you plan to visit Mount Airy or the Yadkin Valley Wine Country. The large and beautiful suites have everything you need and are beautifully decorated.

Sobotta Manor is gorgeous, spotless, and Robin & Junior well trained, superb hosts. Large, comfortable and classical decorated suites. The formal breakfast was incredible! Beautiful location. Ten minute access to shops/restaurants on Main St. in downtown Mt. Airy., NC. A paradise and a marvelous get-away! I didn't want to leave! When I choose it has to be 1st class and this B & B ranked far above my expectations -- A DEFINITE 5-Star! Phyllis B. Patterson, VA

Sobotta Manor hosts are cheerful and perfectly helpful. Not annoying or obtrusive. Their breakfasts were way better than anything we have had at other places!

A wonderfully comfortable, convenient B&B with top notch service. I would highly recommend this establishment. The hosts are excellent, the food delicious, and the accomodations super comfortable.

Imagine beautiful accommodations located in the heart of town, tasty breakfasts every morning mixed with friendly conversation from fellow travelers, and the nicest hosts you will ever met. That is what you will find at Sobotta Manor. Located in a superb area close to everything including excellent wineries you will not feel crowded at this B&B. Each room is tastefully appointed and very private. You know you have come to a special place as soon as meet your host. My favorite part was the great conversation and advice from Junior and Robin who’s in depth knowledge and sincere interest in making the best experience for us was very much appreciated. Their insight into what to see and where to eat allowed us to experience some of the hidden treasures "Mayberry” has to offer. For this we are truly thankful. We have such wonderful memories from staying here and can't wait to go back and see this lovely family, both furry and funny again. We are truly privileged to have stayed here.
5 on July 28, 2008
Staying at the Sobotta Manor for one night was too short. It was that good! Everything I wanted in a B&B they had, starting with a warm welcome by Robin. She really wanted my stay to be enjoyable. The downstairs room I stayed in was plenty big, great bed, tastefully decorated, and had a great shower. After a long drive it was wonderful to be offered a glass of wine and a easy going chat. The entire house is gorgeous, as well as the garden in the back. You'd never guess it was back there! Robin really put the B in breakfast as well. Delicious! She could be a chef at a restaurant. Come to think of it, she is! If you're anywhere near Mt. Airy, you gotta stay at the Sobotta. Nothing is better.
5 on July 28, 2008
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Sobotta Bed and Breakfast. Robin's breakfasts were fantastic, a culinary genius! The room was very clean and nice and the bed extremely comfortable, and the house and grounds were lovely. Robin recommended a restaurant nearby that was beautiful, and the wineries we visited in the area exceeded expectations. I would recommend the Sobotta to anyone visiting the area. Junior and Robin were warm and attentive host and we could never say enough about Clayton and Cher we were well loved. We left rejuvenated and restored. Best Bed and Breakfast Ever!
5 on July 28, 2008
Charming, intimate bed and breakfast in the heart of downtown Mayberry. Robin and Junior were pleasant and helpful. Rooms were nicely and attractively furnished (even the sheets were pressed) and the beds were the most comfortable beds we've slept in since leaving home, with down duvets, fluffy pillows and soft sheets. Bathroom was nicely appointed with magnifying mirror, and unusually generous supply of towels, shampoo, mouthwash and lotions. Robin was helpful and provided great walking directions and maps. The Inn was a haven to return to each evening. I enjoyed the free wireless internet service and coffee bar.
5 on July 27, 2008
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sobotta Manor. Robin was a delightful hostess and a great chef (loved the blueberry crepes). This inn certainly deserves its 4 Star rating. We plan to return with some friends to further enjoy the wonderful ambience of Sobotta Manor and Mt. Airy

This lovely home and its owners are a standout in the world of B&Bs. We chanced on them while driving through NC on a trip up the East Coast and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The owners have lovingly and skillfully restored the house and grounds and are active in the local restoration and historic preservation community. Robin greeted us at the door and immediately made us feel welcome, pointing out the many guest amenities and offering suggestions for dining that evening (which we took and loved!) Our room was large and beautifully appointed, though it did have only a tub (no shower). And breakfast was nothing less than sublime--homemade cream-cheese-stuffed French toast with fresh berry compote! Also, though it wasn't available for our drop-in stay this time, Robin told us there was a pet-friendly room which we will definitely check out on our next stay.
5 on July 11, 2008
A perfect Bed & Breakfast. Beautiful decor, lovely gardens, warm hospitality, delicious breakfast and a great room makes the Sobotta Manor a wonderful place to stay. We will most certainly return.
5 on July 09, 2008
The only thing better than the bed was the breakfast - gourmet at its best. The hosts were as gracious as they come! The BEST experience we have ever had at a B&B - and we have stayed at many all around the world.
5 on July 08, 2008
Rarely do you find a B and B where the gardens outside rival the rooms inside, but that is definitely true at the Sobotta Manor. And for the icing on the cake, the breakfasts prepared and served by Robin are the best that we have ever experienced in a B and B, and we travel extensively staying in B and B's around the Country. We particularly appreciated how loving both Junior and Robin were to our dog, Corky. Robin went the extra mile to make our stay there with a pet enjoyable. We left feeling like we had indeed made two new friends. We were impressed both with our hosts and the truly exceptional house.
5 on July 08, 2008
The warmth, friendliness, and hospitality of the innkeepers. The beautiful gardens and the breakfasts were elegantly prepared and served.
5 on July 05, 2008
It was so relaxing. Just what we needed. They made sure we had everything we could have wanted. The house was quiet, beautiful, and comfortable. Even though the entire inn was booked, it was quiet enough to make us feel like we had the place to ourselves. They were always available to answer questions about activities in the area from hiking to shopping to wine tasting. They even helped us make reservations for dinner on that first night in. It was just lovely. I think we'll go back again next February.

Wow, what a delightful stay in a delightful little town. The Manor was within walking distance of the downtown area and many other areas. The rooms were large and very comfortable. The best beautiful both inside and out. The hosts very warm and helpful and definitely concerned about our comfort. The breakfasts were out of this world.

This was a very nice B&B walking distance to downtown Mt. Airy. There is a lovely side porch to sit on and it is convenient to everything in the area, including a great old drive-in movie theater. The highlight was truly the breakfast. The innkeeper had no problem tweaking her recipe a bit for us (we're vegetarian) and it was truly an exceptional meal, one of the best we've ever had at a B&B. Not run of the mill at all! Stay here for sure.

Robin and JR attend to every detail at Sobotta Manor. The three course gourmet breakfasts, the chauffeured trips to area wineries, and the beautiful, comfortable home and yard made our stay in quaint, historic Mt Airy most memorable. We highly recommend the Sobotta Manor to everyone who wishes to be treated royally!

The word is definitely spreading across the state and country about this gem of a place. My husband and I have stayed at The Sabotta Manor twice now to celebrate our wedding anniversary and tour the Yadkin Valley wineries. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and Robin's culinary heritage shines every morning in her absolutely delightful breakfasts.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful relaxing weekend at Sobotta Manor B&B. The innkeepers are down to earth lovely people. The home is well kept, warm and welcoming. The breakfast are delicious and such that you would find in a five star restaurant. Robin and Junior are very cordial and willing to provide information, directions or make reservations for you. A completely wonderful place to relax and take in the sites in Mount Airy and the surrounding area. The Sobotta Manor will exceed your expectations. Robin and Junior are great host.

We recently visited the Sobotta Manor for second time and had another wonderful stay. We stayed in room 3 which overlooks the beautiful gardens. June 4, 2008 My husband and I spent the past weekend at Sobotta Manor in Mt. Airy, NC and had a wonderful visit. Robin and Jr were excellent hosts with lots of local information and suggestions. We were there to visit the wineries and they suggested we eat lunch at Elkin Creek Winery which was greatly appreciated. They have a fantastic panini sandwich there. Speaking of food, Robin's breakfasts were something else. The presentation was beautiful and the food was gourmet. The house itself is lovely with beautiful gardens. We stayed in room #1, which is on the front of the house and has it's own private entrance. It was amazingly quiet to be facing the street. I would absolutely recommend it!

Traveling with friends, we were on our way to a B&B in Virginia when we were notified that the Inn in Virginia would be closed due to the death of the innkeeper. This was to be our last night in a 10-day trip and wanted to spend the night some place special. Although not in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we were thrilled that Robin said "yes" to our late afternoon call for two rooms! We enjoyed Mt. Airy and hope to return to the Sobotta Manor again!

My husband and I recently stayed four days at the Sobotta Manor Bed and Breakfast ("SMBB") in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary. SMBB is an absolutely beautiful B&B. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with several niches that offer opportunities for outdoor solitude and relaxing reflection. And the house itself is a masterpiece of beautiful architecture (hardwood floors, 10-foot ceilings, exquisite staircase) and lovely antiques. We stayed in the first floor bedroom, which was absolutely huge and had its own private bath with shower. Our hosts (Robin and J.R.) were fabulous. Every request was happily and quickly fulfilled. The morning meals in the formal dining room were superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommed it to anyone who will be staying in the area.

John Sobotta, though we never knew him, had a tremendous influence on our family - the land he donated to the BSA at Raven Knob is "sacred ground" for my husband and son. Both grew up attending camp there, and have served on the Aqatics Staff for years. So, when my husband drove by and saw the B&B, he was eager to spend some time in the home of the man he so admired. Being the wonderful husband he is, he gave 'us' a 2 night get-away for Christmas! We couldn't have enjoyed the experience more...The Hesters' hospitality was gracious; the atmosphere warm and inviting; the food superb. I think Mr. Sobotta would be very proud that his legacy continues in such a personal way!

The Sobotta Manor is top notch, you will not be dissapointed. I'm very picky about decor and even if the rates are good and the location is good, I won't stay at a place that's got too much frilly stuff that looks like a cheap attempt at being historic and victorian. The Sobotta Manor is warm and inviting as are the owners.

My wife and I decided to come to the Sobotta Manor only because it closely resembled our last name, but it was the one of the best decisions that we ever made. We came to Mount Airy for our Honeymoon, and Robin and JR made us feel so at home. We have little experience with bed and breakfasts, but our experience here will ensure us that we will continue to go to them. Robin made the most incredible breakfasts that we have ever had. If you have never toured the NC wine country, you must do so with JR and their trumped-up Excursion. The tour was well worth the cost, and we got to experience the many great vineyards of northern North Carolina. The rooms were clean, taken care of, and comfortable. My wife loved the two dogs, Clayton and Cher. We will definitely be going back someday. Thank you very much, Jason and Colleen Sobota

When you travel you really have no idea what to expect until you get there. When we drove up, the house is so beautiful! Every room was decorated, and every little detail was seen to. You can tell that Robin thought of everything and put so much work into what she thought her guests would want. We had the room downstairs with it's own private entrance, we loved that. The grounds were peaceful and reminded me of an english garden. The breakfast was so unexpected. The food finest restaurant quality and delicious. They were such gracious hosts. We felt at home and welcome. Which is hard for most people to do with strangers in their own home. We are already planning on when we can go back. We had a great time.

Don't miss the chance to stay at the Sobotta Manor. You won't find another B&B like this, guaranteed. It's one of those special finds that will go down in your book of best memories. Of course, the grounds and decor of the home are exquisite - and experiencing the blossoming NC wine country is amazing - but it's the personal touch and care of the Hesters that makes this above an "Outstanding" rating. They made sure every need was met above and beyond our expectation, including hosting a personal wine tour, making perfect recommendations for dining and sightseeing, and cooking exquisite 5 star breakfasts. But mostly, the Hesters provided a warm and friendly environment where genuine care and concern was evident - a rare find today, for sure. After 2 days at the Sobotta Manor, my husband and I made new friendships that will last a lifetime.

We spent two nights here. The bed was fantastic and the bed linens were comfy--down pillows and comforter. We had a private bath. The innkeepers, Robin & JR, are most accommodating. The breakfast was beyond our expectation--gourmet at its best. We will definitely be back.

We were renewing our wedding vows and wanted a quite, relaxing, warm place to get away from the 4 kids for a weekend. This was a great choice! Robin took care of everything for me...the flowers and chocolates for my wife, dinner reservations and even a show at the local playhouse. Robin and Junior are warm and inviting hosts. And Robin is a great cook. The food was wonderful. I ate far too much but loved every bite of it! We will be going back again in the future!

Comfort and beauty inside and out - serene gardens, delightful pets, warm, friendly hostess in Robin who dishes up a delicious meal in a gorgeous setting. A bed to die for - difficult to leave!

Sobotta was a great B&B stay. It's very close to "downtown" Mt. Airy and convenient to visiting all the area has to offer. Robin was a very gracious host, providing insight on wineries to visit and local attractions that we would have otherwise missed. And you have to love "Cher-bear", the wonderful little Bichopoo! The house itself has been wonderfully maintained and the rooms are large - I wish we had taken more time to explore the gardens. Breakfast was out of this world all three days of our stay.

We like B&Bs. This one is now at the top of our list. The house is great, the food excellent, and Robin is a Gracious hostess. We spent three nights, and are eager to visit with her again

The Surry Arts Council hosted directors for a week long children's theatre program. The directors stayed at Sobotta Manor and were in "heaven". They loved the fact that there was wireless internet service along with "the best bed that I have ever slept in". The hosts could not have been nicer and we would LOVE to come back. A treasure for Mount Airy and very convenient-walking distance to the Andy Griffith Playhouse and downtown.

We went a little out of our way to stay at the Sobotta based on the reviews of other guests and were not disappointed in the least. The job that the Hesters did in fixing up the house and turning it into a B&B is first class right down to every detail. Robin is a gracious hostess and a gourmet cook.

We have stayed at Sobotta Manor twice in the last couple of weeks. We've staying in a lot of B & B's and I would put Sobotta at the top of the list. The house is in excellent condition and very well decorated. The rooms are large and as nice as it gets. The garden areas are well kept and beautiful. Robin and Jr. are great hosts and Robin's breakfast has a chef's touch superior to most B & B's. I gaurantee you will not be disappointed!

We came for a weekend at Sobatta Mannor to celebrate our 33rd Aniversary. This house is really beautifully decorated. The accommodations were excellent, especially the bed. The most rewarding experience was Robin's cooking. We would definately recommend Sobatta Manor to anyone.

OUR STAY AT SOBOTTA WAS WONDERFUL! THE HOUSE WAS BEAUTIFUL, VERY CLEAN & THE BREAKFASTS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD!! ROBIN WAS A FANTASTIC HOSTESS!

Our visit to Sabotta Manor while visiting our daughter and new grandchild could not have been more pleasant. The home's atmosphere was like being in our own home; the back bedroom was delightful, the breakfast was gourmet, and Robin was terrific. Any future visits to see our family there will always incude our "home away from home---Sabotta Manor".

Great for our professional staff retreat of 9 people. Because of the smaller room number, we split of lodging between this BB and another in Mt. Airy, but had our daily meetings at Sobotta. Comfortable, clean, quiet, private. Great food. Sobotta arranged catered lunch and dinner reservations. Very professional couple to work with, would highly recommend!!

The manor, 1920's in architechure and in furnishings, and totally in the best of personality thanks to Robin and Junior, is the most outstanding residence we've stayed in "bar none". None expense has been spared and the attention to detail will amaze you. And then when you wake you for breakfast, you will then be floored by the most amazing recipes that the best chefs on the Food Network would drool over as Robin explains each course to you as you literally can't wait to dig in to the servings. You will leave the table fully satisfied and ready for a full day of wine tasting or Andy Griffith site seeing in the nearby sites. And when you are finished, you will have the most relaxing venue to sit back and listen to chirpping crickets in the late spring or early summer evening - the patio or garden area. What a perfect place to getaway from the hectec day-to-day grind and discover the peacefulness of one of the most beautiful parts of this great nation of ours. We can not wait until our next visit to Sobotta Manor and Robin's great hospitality. You should treat yourself to the same experience. Why stay at some hotel when you can experience something completely different and calming and enjoyable and at a totally reasonable price. The B&B experience at Sobotta Manor with Robin and Junior in Mt Airy is the only way to go. Dave and Jamie Gregorovic, Troy OH

Everything was excellent. Your attention to my friend over the anniversary of her husband's death was a very rich blessing and I know we were meant to be there. Thank you sincerely!!!!!

When we arrived we were a little unsure of what to expect but upon first glance, we knew we'd found a winner! The home is a nice combination of understated elegance and comfort. Our room was romantic and so comfortable - the sound of soft, relaxing music along with the amethyst and jade decor were just what we were looking for. To round it all out, Sobotta's gardens are lovely and Robin is an excellent host (she makes a fabulous breakfast too)!

Beautifully furnished home with attractive gardens front and rear. Parking available only on the street, however, which is rather busy and sometimes noisy. Innkeeper is attentive, snacks and drinks are available, and breakfast was excellent. Location is easy to find and convenient to shopping and dining.

My husband and I stayed at the Sobotta. It was absolutely gorgeous. Robin and Junior were so nice and the food was outstanding. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. Robin and Junior really made you feel like one of the family. They also helped us with reservations and wine tours. We will definitely stay there again.

Delicious food, friendly people, lovely home. I was initially disappointed that my room had a tub and no shower, but I quickly put myself in a vacation frame of mind and even enjoyed my forced, relaxing baths!

The breakfast was magnificent. The bed was one of the most opulient one I ever slept in. Robin was a big help with reservations/suggestions where to go and eat. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary and would and have recommended it to our friends.

My husband and I had a fabulous time. We loved the room, the innkeepers, the cute little pooches, the wine tour, everything! We really enjoyed Mount Airy, the quaintness, the shopping and the Mayberry show! This place is worth visitng but only if you stay at the Sobotta Manor!

My husband and I wanted to visit the new NC wine country and struck a gem in the Sobotta Manor. The hosts were fantastic, offering area advice and just chatting about the local vineyards. The 3 course breakfast was fantastic and the room worth telling about! We will definitely return.

The house is beautiful, the owners are very personable, the breakfasts are fabulous! We had a wonderful stay & look forward to a return visit!

We share an anniversary date with close friends and often make plans together. In August, 2006, we decided to make a weekend of it and tour NC wineries in the Yadkin Valley. A B&B on a website was full; they recommended Sobotta Manor. What a break for us! Robin and Thurman are personable and FRIENDLY; they are very proud of their home and anxious for you to share the experience. The house is a wonder; it is warm, comfortable and inviting. Robin is also a goumet cook; our breakfast/brunches were delicious! When Sunday arrived we felt like we were leaving new friends, not just a location to rest our tired souls.

Felt like we were at home but more peaceful. The Inn is gorgeous but my favorite was the stove! Gotta check it out. Now the gardens- you just have to see for yourself.

Sobotta Manor has it all together from the beautifully appointed rooms, delicious food to making us feel so welcome to be staying with you. What a treat for us to relax and just enjoy ourselves. Thanks Berk & Sue

Rolled in a little late, Robin was calmed & welcomed us with aplomb. Beautiful wood & decorations, rugs, tastefully ornate table settings, glittered with silver light -- We felt like Vanderbilts (whatever they felt like!)Robin & Junior couldn't have been nicer. The formal garden was very pretty as the dusk settled in -- next morning the dawn made it live despite the unseasonably cold Spring. Beds were soft & sumptuous & the bathroom good. The breakfast was truly gourmet -- bananas foster over banana nut bread french toast -- this AM I had a banana just to remind myself. The town, too, is worth a visit & Robin knows all sorts of wineries to visit. We recommend a stopover or a long stay. Patrick & Carole

Share your Mt. Airy, NC experience at Sobotta Manor...where you are reminded of visiting old friends who welcomed you as family, where memories of your lives were shared, and privacy was respected. Delight in the delicious breakfast meals! We did...and had a wonderful, relaxing stay.

We took a wild stab and chose Sobotta Manor B&B and we were blessed with a wonderful weekend to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We planned to tour the wineries, so all we knew about the area was that there were several B&Bs to choose from. We chose well! The home is gorgeous, the rooms are beautiful, the staff is so welcoming and friendly, and the breakfasts were fabulously yummy. I am sure, if we visit Mt. Airy again, we will stay at Sobotta Manor! I only wish we had 1 or 2 more days to enjoy the comfy living room and books the manor has to offer. "Hi" to Clayton, Cher, and Paula!

We recently enjoyed a wonderful stay at Sobotta Manor. Robin is just wonderful, and her cooking will make you want to immediately reserve another night just to have one more breakfast. We stayed in room 3 - it was great and we slept extremely well. We loved eating at the nearby Scuppernong's for dinner, and the next day we toured some of the local vineyards. We will absolutely be back.
