Bridgewater Hall Bed and Breakfast

We just returned yesterday from a 2 night stay at this fabulous inn. The owner David makes one feel so welcome, it is southern hospitality at its finest!! The accommodations are very comfortable, and I really liked the fact that nice glasses are available for your use. we were welcomed with white and red wine and the parlor was always available for us. Oh, and have I mentioned his yummy breakfasts yet?? Beyond compare with any other inn I have previously visited. Both the food and the table setting were wonderful. This inn would be a nice stay for visiting the surrounding area including Black Mt. and Blowing Rock.

We stayed with David (and Saatchi theTibetian spaniel) at the superbly decorated Bridgewater Hall for 2 nites in June '12. We had a most restful stay while investigating the area for retirement possibilities. David's willingness to share his extensive knowledge of the area was most helpful. It doesn't hurt that he is also an outstanding wizard in the kitchen! We will certainly visit again when in the area.

Bridgewater Hall is a very nice B&B with an easy charm and relaxed atmosphere. David Stevenson is an excellent host and will treat you to an unparalleled breakfast!

My husband Paul, surprised me with an over night stay at the Bridgewater Hall Bed an Breakfast over the Labor day weekend in 2008. WE really enjoyed our stay & the innkeepers, David & Keith were very kind and down to earth. We had a great time discussing the history of the area as well as listening to the live piano concert provided by one of our hosts; I'll let you find out which one! Our stay at the Bridgewater Inn was delightful. Being first time visitors at a bed and breakfast we weren’t sure what to expect but David made us feel right at home. The rooms were immaculate and tastefully decorated staying true to the homes period. The pictures don’t do this place justice. The beds were comfortable unlike most hotel mattresses. David was very accommodating during our stay and recommended local restaurants, wineries, and parks for entertainment. The locals had true southern hospitality and welcomed us with open arms. David prepared our breakfast every morning which was outstanding. We ate dinner at Low-Country and Yiannis, the crab cakes were out of this world, which I would highly recommend. The best burgers in town I would have to say would be at Oak Hill Grill, hands down. Overall our stay was wonderful and we couldn’t have asked for more. We are currently planning our trip in spring to go back to see the beautiful flowers blossom. We can’t wait to go back.

First, I must say that usually when you see photos of a Bed & Breakfast on the internet; a lot of times the photos are not current or the Bed & Breakfast place you stay at does not look like the phots. But, in this case let me say that Bridgewater Hall looks just like the photos in everyway possible. The decor was wonderful and David really captures that ole' school flavor of what a true B&B should look like and feel like. Now with that being said, my girlfriend and I stayed for 3 days and let this be known as I will place this in capital letters. "THE BEST IN THE B&B BUSINESS"! David, you are the best at what you do and I hope that you will keep this place for many years to come. We loved our room, it had all the essentials you would have at home including satellite TV. You allowed us to check in late as we were traveling from Ohio. The food is MAGNIFICENT! That salmon breakfast with poached eggs was wonderful and you can tell that David really loves to make sure his guest are treated the way he would want to be treated. He gave us a key to come and go as we pleased and was just so gracious and laidback everytime we interacted with him. David made us feel at HOME! We were close enough to fine dining but far enough away from everything till all you could hear were the crickets at night. David even played a selection on the piano as we were heading out to meet family. Very accomplished pianist! THE BEST OF THE BEST! David, thank you so much for a wonderful experience at Bridgewater Hall! We hope to get back down there one more time before the year is up and hopefully if your not booked up, we will definitely stay at Bridgewater Hall. To all of those who read this review; take my word for it as I have traveled extensively across the country, Bridgewater Hall is a JEWEL and THE PERSONAL TOUCH that David provides is like no other! First of all, the location for this B&B is wonderful -- walking distance to Lake James and Lake James State park, and with a creek in the back yard! Just 45 minutes east of Asheville. Beautiful fountains, gardens, a gazebo, and porches where we sat and enjoyed the outdoors. Had the weather been cooler, we would have used the outdoor fireplace. Secondly, David was very solicitous -- he allowed us an early check-in and a late check-out, with no problems (nor extra money required). The home is beautiful, and feels very welcoming. We were very comfortable there. Our room had its own controls for air-conditioning and heating (and a different heating thermostat for the bathroom - how cool!), and beautiful views from the windows. Our room also had a small refrigerator already stocked with complimentary bottled water. It was clean, the bed and pillows quite comfortable, and the decor was amazing. Breakfast was great, and David worked around my food allergies with no trouble at all (and he was so very nice about it). All in all, we'll definitely stay here again, and will recommend this to our friends and family -- Such a treasure!

The host was very gracious, the breakfast was excellent, the antique furnishings and decor were very nicely apportioned, location beautiful, close enough to the interstate to be convenient, but far enough away to feel secluded. Nearby Lake James State Park was very enjoyable.

From the moment we walked into the door until the time we pulled out of the drive, we could not have been treated any better anywhere! David & Keith were exceptional host! They treated us like family! The food was out of this world! We didn't want to leave!

The perfect accomadations for our family! The two suites were a great way to for my husband and I to stay at a B&B, even though we were traveling with my daughter and her family. David was very patient with children, even allowing them to play the piano with him. He gave us great restaurant suggestions and useful information on Lake James. We enjoyed the time he spent chatting with us, both during breakfast and over a glass of wine. Both meals were outstanding! Pear soup, blueberry scones, and pecan pancakes are recipes I plan on requesting. Never thought I would be able to stay at a B&B with toddlers, but thanks to the wonderful outdoors surroundings and David's friendly personality, our visit was very relaxing!

We stayed for 2 nights and loved it!! The B & B was lovely but the owner, David, made it special. He is very accommodating and attentive to his guests. David played the piano one evening and during breakfast one morning. On the second evening, he invited us and another couple to join him and his friends in the courtyard where he had lit the fireplace. We hope to return in the future.

This is my wife's and my first time at a bed and breakfast. This was a wonderful place to stay. The host was warm and friendly, the residence was steep in history and antiques, and the excellent dining would be similar to what was served at the Biltmore Estate in the early 1900's. We visited the Biltomre house the following day. The host skillfully played a antique piano as we dined at breakfast. Highly recommend you visit this excellent bed and breakfast.

I came to Morganton on a business assignment and stayed at Bridgewater Hall for a 4 week time frame. I have stayed in many B&B's during my travels. Bridgewater is unparalled in attention to detail, value, quality, cleanliness and service. David was a wonderful, gracious host. He checked frequently with me to be sure I was comfortable and that I had everything I needed. The home is tastefully decorated in antiques. There was such special attention paid to detail when decorating this home. My room was beautiful, clean and had all the amenities I needed. Such a peaceful and relaxing place to come "home" to each day. Bridgewater Hall is in a relaxing beautiful country setting, yet was still close to town. The food was outstanding! I highly recommend Bridgewater Hall and hope to stay there again if my travels bring me back to the Morganton area.

We stayed at Bridgewater Hall in late October. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts and I must say that this is absolutely one of the best B&B experiences we have ever had. So much care was put into the restoration of this home. Our rooms were so elequent and our breakfast was exceptional. David was such a gracious host; we especially enjoyed the good conversation and the mini concert was such a special treat. We look forward to coming back again and bringing some friends with us. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a beautiful clean place to stay with a "homey" atmosphere.

The house is beautifully restored, and furnished with antiques. Our room was more than adequate. The breakfasts were generous. And our whole stay was made memorable by the exceptional hospitality of the host. I highly recommend Bridgewater Hall to any traveller who wants to stop and smell the roses.

My husband and I had our first visit to a Bed and Breakfast over Labor Day weekend. Our experience was relaxing and enjoyable. David made us feel so at home. At breakfast we felt so special with a lovely place setting and yummy food. We also enjoyed our conversations with David. Our room was just lovely with everything we needed. I loved the comfortable feeling of everything in our room. The grounds and setting were also very pastoral, peaceful, and beautiful. Each night my husband and I looked forward to coming "home."

My wife and I had never been to a bed and breakfast before so I thought I would suprise her for our anniversary the weekend of August 6th. I did some research of B&B within an hour and a half from our home and found the Bridgewater Hall B&B. We were more than pleased with our stay. Scott and Keith were gracious hosts! We loved the home itself. The work done to restore this house and make it what it is today shows how dedicated these guys are to making your stay a memorable one. We had a great dinner in downtown Morganton. But the breakfast we had Saturday morning was better than any 5 star hotel. We had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

The food was delicious, the rooms comfortable and elegant. The service was above anything expected. We felt truly pampered during our stay.

This bed and breakfast is the best one I have ever stayed in. The house is BEAUTIFUL and well kept. Clean and very inviting. The owners, Keith and David know how to make guest not only feel welcome, but part of their circle of friends. If you ever make a trip the the mountains of NC, you absolutely MUST stay here. You won't regret it!

Returned once again to find all things as wonderful as they were the first time we visited . We are Innkeepers ourselves and have little time to get away but somehow this place keeps calling us back. Wonderful rooms, service, a great value, meets our standards for cleanliness and the dining was great. The spring flowers were beautiful. Thanks once again to David and Keith for a job well done.

Our first inclination that this stay was going to be special was before we even arrived at the Inn David called us to see if we were having trouble the B & B. He greeted us at the door even though it was snowing when we arrived. Beautiful setting, beautiful house, wonderfully decorated! The breakfasts were wonderful! The table settings superb! Every bit of care was taken to insure that we had a wonderful stay. The evening in the parlor was great with David playing the piano for us. Conversation was lively and interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely tell people about David and Keith's little bit of heaven in the Lake James area. Well worth checking this place out. Thank you both for a wonderful Valentine's weekend with my husband. We needed a refreshing time together. God bless you both!

I came for a night getaway in the mountains with my wife and baby daughter...and what a getaway it was!! Keith and Dave did a fantastic job of making us feel comfortable and at home away from home. The breakfast was incredible as were all the little surprises (brownies, tea, hors d'oeuvres) throughout our stay. I would recommend anyone to stay here and enjoy the atmosphere, antiques, food and good company!

This is a little peace of heaven placed where you can find a little piece of excellance and treated like royalty, The owners go far beyond what they need to do to make sure that you enjoy your every moment there. They outdo everyone on the finest breakfast I have ever had, they also stand out as being kind and helpful to make your stay the best you have ever had. This will not be my only visit there

Oh what a wonderful visit! Bridgewater Hall is so lovely. David and Keith are the soul of Southern Hospitality and can those men cook! The FULL breakfasts were delicious, beautifully presented, and bountiful. We arrived late on a Thursday night, and were greeted with a glass a wine and relaxing conversation. Each morning, the breakfast was abdsolute OUTSTANDING and very generous. Scones, muffins, and breads for an afternoon snack to go. Lovely rooms, very spacious and over the top decor. Keith and David were spectacular hosts and made us feel so welcome. My husband and I stayed here last year for our 20th anniversary. We were very stressed out as we'd made 3 moves within 2 month's time. Needless to say, our hosts made everything perfect. It was a surprise for my husband and it turned out a great place for a celebration! Living about 20 minutes away made it easy for me to cater our dinner there and our hosts set up the parlor for a fantastic evening. It was better than going out (I made a gourmet meal)--I forgot dessert and they came up with cheesecakes for us. The outside patio was so relaxing enjoying a glass of wine with the fire blazing as we snuggled under wraps provide to ward off the chill in the air (it was mid-October). I've stayed at several B&B's but the hosts here really go out of their way to make your stay one you'll personally remember for years to come!!

My daughter was recently married at Bridgewater Hall. I could not be more pleased. The wedding was beautiful. The Gazebo and the front yard worked wonderfully and the courtyard was perfect for the reception.David and Keith could not have been more helpful. Because the grounds are done so immaculately there was no need to do any decorating. So I feel like I saved money. Being from this area , I feel like I have discovered a treasure.

Bridgewater Hall was a grand experience. I attended a wedding at this beautiful place just recently and everything was above and beyond anything that I expected. The Innkeepers/Owners - David and Keith, are exceptional. I plan to go there again real soon!

I have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Bridgewater, David and Keith were wonderful host's, they were prepared for any situation. We stayed in the Veranda Room it was beautiful and immaculate, as was the rest of the house. We were able to relax and enjoy our stay (including the children). The wedding outside was beautiful and the terrace area worked out great for the reception. The breakfast was great, kid friendly, and very fresh including the buscuits. I would definetly stay there again, and encourage anyone to do the same, David, and Keith were fabulous!!!

Staying at Bridgewater Hall is more like visiting friends with a really great guest room and a gourmet chef. Everything was perfect. My only complaint is that now other B&Bs will have a hard time meeting my expectations.

As innkeepers of another B and B, we are extemely fussy about where we stay when we go away. We were looking for a peaceful, quiet and romantic setting to celebrate our 41st anniversary. We found what we were looking for and so much more at Bridgewater Hall. We marveled at the attention to each and every detail of this lovingly restored home. I am convinced that the innkeepers did not just return their home to it's former glory, but made it so much more luxurious than it ever was. Keith and David not only did all the work on the restoration, they reupholstered antique furniture, they custom made draperies and built a beautiful courtyard fountain and fireplace. As if that wasn't enough they are both iron chefs. Fabulous food and presentation was top notch. I thought that I was in heaven when I entered the house and heard David playing the piano and singing. What a treat. The lake is a short walk from the inn. It is a sight to behold . You can rent a boat for the day from a local marina at quite a reasonable rate. I am already telling my guests to check this gem out if they are looking for something in this area. Great house, great rooms, great food , great innkeepers! We arrived as strangers, left as friends and those two wonderful fellows have left their footprints on my heart forever. A return visit is certainly in our near future. I may have holed up in my immaculately decorated and plushy comfortable suite for the entire evening watching TV and relaxing, but that was totally by choice. Therefore, I do not have input as to dining insight for the local fare. I do know that I was greeted by a sumptuous breakfast the next morning and that it was wonderful! My hosts were most accommodating and cordial. They have done an amazing job restoring their diamond in the rough into a beautiful home and garden. (Just ask and they will be happy to show you pictures.). Gentlemen, thank you for sharing your home and hospitality. I plan to come back again.

My husband and I have visited bridgewater twice this past year,just as a getaway from our hectic lives.Our first time was incredible,david and keith treated us like family from the get go.The house and grounds are hauntingly beautiful,full of life and local history.As overwheming as that sounds,the whole time we were there the owners maintained a sense of heartfelt hospitality,and good humor throughout our entire visit.This b&b is a must for couples needing to regroup and relax,an exceptional reminder that you can make great friends just about anywhere.

The food was exceptionally tasty & plentiful & presented so elegantly! I was amazed at how David & Keith transformed the building and grounds...such talent! They provided a place where I felt totally at ease, as if I were visiting old friends. I appreciated their help with suggestions for hiking options and restaurant ideas. I stayed for two nights and I found it very difficult to leave...I will definitely be back!

After reading the reviews on bedandbreakfast.com, our family spent a night at Bridgewater Hall and had a wonderful time, the large suite on the ground floor was perfect for grandparents, and breakfast was worth the trip itself.

We recently spent four nights at Bridgewater Hall B&B at the end of April. This was our first stay and we were extremely pleased. David and Keith were impeccable hosts. Breakfasts were exceptional with main courses of eggs benedict, seafood omelet, pecan waffles as examples. This was accompanied by fresh fruit, starwberry soup, and freshly brewed coffee. In the afternoons when we returned, hot tea or a glass of wine was provided along with some surprise prepared by our hosts. It was not only the great food , but the conversations and interactions we had with David and Keith that really made our stay exceptional. The inn is a historic home that has been completely restored and exquisitely decorated in Victorian style. Our room was spacious and included a gas-fired fireplace that was nice to turn on in the evenings or early morning at this time of year. The location was excellent being the closest inn to Lake James and also within 10 minutes of major roadways. This will be the place we return to on our upcoming visits to Lake James as it truly felt like a home away from home.

Bridgewater Hall hasn't been featured in Gourmet Magazine or Southern Living yet; we found it before the media! It is elegant without being stuffy and formal. Keith and David amazed us with their many talents and attention to detail. We enjoyed very special candlelit breakfasts in front of the fireplace while David played the baby grand piano. Not only were the scones homemade, but the 3 preserves were also; and made from fruit grown on the property! Keith and David have put their hearts, souls, many talents and abilities into making this B & B a place that can best be described with superlatives. We enjoyed a tour of the lovingly restored house, and getting interior design ideas to try at home before we snuggled into bed by a cozy fire.

David & Keith not only did an amazing job of renovating their beautiful, historic inn, their hospitality and warmth are amazing. The room is beautiful, the shower a treat, the food -- oh my, we couldn't eat it all -- and what a gorgeous table they set for us! They lit the outdoor fireplace for us so we could enjoy it when we returned from dinner and just took care of so many details in the most warm and gracious style. We've stayed at many b & b's before, but this is the first time we made a reservation for a return stay before we left. And the area itself is not nearly as touristy as other towns in the NC mountains. Whatta find!

David's and Keith's skills are evident in the way they have turned this historic house into such an delightful B&B. The house itself has been skillfully restored and beautifully decorated. Their attention to guests includes an elegant breakfast that one is likely to remember for providing such a pleasing a start to the day. Learning a bit of the history associated with the house adds to the enjoyment of a stay here.

David & Keith were incredibly thoughtful and gracious hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Bridgewater Hall B&B. Their combined talents include gourmet cooking, interior & exterior decorating, the ability to build or repair almost anything, a gift for music, and more. The food and accommodations were fantastic and we made two new friends. This historical house has been carefully and impeccably renovated into the most charming place for a retreat. The location is nearby Lake James and many other great area attractions. Check it out!

Our wonderful,magical stay here was like stepping into the past. Even the most sophisticated of us could not restrain the "ohs" and "Ahs" as we explored the rooms of wonder with all the Victorian furniture, chandeliers,candles, antique china and beautiful oil paintings so casually displayed.Each bedroom was very Victorian with tapestry,satins, oriental rugs and oddles of vases and other antiques. And the one word that best describes our treatment as guests was PAMPERED. We loved the gourmet breakfast we ate while David played the antique baby grand -so very grandly! We loved the stories as well as the video and history of the old house. We'll look forward to going again.

What an amzaingly wonderful stay we had. On arrvial we were warmly greeted by Kieth and shown our room. It was luxurious and very comfortable with wonderful fabrics, paint colors, and furnishings. We shamelessly asked for a tour the rest of the house. We were not disappointed. The attention to detail and decor makes this house a warm and inviting place to be. What an incredible job they have done bringing this gem back to life. David and Keith are spectacular hosts. We had the most romantic breakfasts waiting for us in the mornings. A table for two by the livingroom fireplace set with crystal and silver. The food was great and more than we could eat. After a long day of exploring the area (it's centrally located to many points of interst) we looked forward to what awaited us at Bridgewater Hall. In the evening David played the piano for us. He is very talented and we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. We then spent the rest of the evening outside in the courtyard where Keith had built a roaring fire in the fireplace. With a glass of wine to enjoy by the fire, and their great company we had so much fun. We came as guest but are grateful to leave having made two new friends. If you want to be spoiled, relax, and have a great time make a reservation you won't be disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay at the Brigewater Hall! The room, food, hosts, all the comforts of home were outstanding. We will be back!

My husband and I just returned home from a visit at Bridgewater Hall and can honestly say we've never been treated so well or had more gracious hosts than David and Keith. The home has been beautifully restored, decorated and landscaped by these two multi-talented gentlemen. They were wonderful guides in terms of recommending what's available in the area for entertainment, dining, attractions etc. If you want to be truly pampered and made to feel special, make plans to visit this B & B. I was vacationing with my two children in their 20's and wanted to be near Lake James. Bridgewater Hall was perfect. We were there for four days. The whole time we were there we were constantly amazed by all that was offered and the beauty and charm of the totally refurbished house. It was my kids' first experience at a B & B and they were hooked. David and Keith were excellent hosts and went above and beyond in every way. They made us feel right at home and by the time we had to leave, we just didn't want to. I can't say enough about the delicious and generous breakfasts, wine and cheese, etc. Upon our request, they even accomodated certain diet restrictions. David delighted us with singing and playing the piano one evening which was an unexpected treat. Both Keith and David were well versed in what to see and do in the area. They recommended choices for local restuarants that were wonderful. It is truly amazing how they were able to transform the old house to its current charming and beautiful presence. Our family can't wait to return to Bridgewater Hall and bring the rest of the family who weren't with us.

I have stayed at many B & B's and this one is the best ever! Upon arriving, the grounds captured our eyes with all the beautiful flowers and gardens while creating a mystical feel with a little stream and bridge to cross to enter the courtyard. The tastefully detailed rock courtyard with numerous plant life; relaxing fountain; and, fireplace encouraged us to settle into one the comfy cushioned wicker chairs and enjoy the view. The house itself is most pleasing with a stately; elegant design; yet warm and inviting. Inside the house you step back in time being surrounded by gorgoeus antiques; beautiful paintings; and, sensational decorating. Our room beckoned us to unwind while the atmosphere revealed class and beauty at it's finest. Our hosts,Keith and David, were most gracious; entertaining ; and informative regarding area dining and attractions. The afternoon start of wine and a delicious key lime pound cake (made by our hosts) for dessert after having dined locally was only the start of the scrumptous food we enjoyed. After a long day, my husband and I were greeted warmly by David and Keith, B&B owners. It was southern hospitality at it's finest. Wine, amazing food and spotless beautifully appointed rooms, made our stay memorable - we loved everything about it! It's a must if you are traveling in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Our stay at Bridgewater Hall was exceptional. From the moment we walked onto the property we knew this B & B was way above average. The courtyard greeted us with a beckoning fountain and garden. A rock fireplace designed & built by the owners inspired us to schedule our Anniversary there in November. Inside the home was beautiful antiques and pictures with lots of history attached. An evening of wine, fruit & cheese with the owners was relaxing and enjoyable. A grand piano in the living area really made our night. We had Christmas in July believe it or not upon our request. Breakfast was the best I have ever had at a B & B. Afternoon cake & cookies with tea,coffee & lemonaide was delicious. What else can I say. You have to experience it to believe it. Thanks David & Keith for blessing us.
