The Chalet Club

Welcome to The Chalet Club, secluded on a mountainside with spectacular views of Hickory Nut Gorge. Located in a region renowned for its mild twelve-month climate, our rate packages provide a carefree vacation environment with either a full country breakfast and a wide array of recreational venues or simply lodging. Since 1934, our hospitality formula has been carefully developed by multiple generations of the Washburn family for unparalleled relaxation and recreation. The accommodations are comprised of the Chalet and seven guest cottages or varying size that are secluded, yet mutually accessible. Seven miles of wilderness hiking trails within the new Chimney Rock State Park originate at our private portal just outside the Chalet's front door. Two Plexicushion tennis courts and a platform tennis court are nestled into the mountainside above the main building. At our waterfront facilities, the Club's guests enjoy a flotilla of boats including canoes, kayaks, and motorized boats. Chalet WaterSports provides water-skiing oportunities. Anglers enjoy fishing for bass in the lake as well as trout in the streams. Horseback riding, Golf and the Biltmore Estate are also close-by.

Photo Album

A Fall Sunrise spotlights the Chalet. The foliage begins changing in early September and concludes in November.
Arrange your fall getaway around the activities and climate that you might wish to enjoy during those months. Water Sports are still the rage in September and early October, and Golf, Tennis and Hiking take center stage in November. Touring the mountains or visiting some of the local attractions such as the Biltmore Estate are always favorite pastimes during any season.
In the evening, the Chalet and the cottages are aglow with fireplaces crackling with wood cut from the Club¿s estate.
The living room of the main lodge invites relaxing by a fire with a book, gathering with friends or family after a delicious meal or gazing out across the mountains from the window seat and getting lost in their timeless beauty.
A unique feature of The Chalet Club is our private seven-mile network of hiking trails, which originate just outside the front door of the Main Building. From March through November, the trailside displays of wildflowers and fall foliage are incredible. The trail¿s destinations are five overlooks and a series of waterfalls. Elevation change from top to bottom is 1300 feet with the Chalet in the middle. The Club van can meet hikers at the base of the mountain for those who wish a ride home.If water sports are your passion, then you are going to experience ecstasy at The Chalet Club. The Club¿s flotilla includes Four Wilderness System sit-on-top kayaks, two Old Town canoes, two 8 + passenger Duffy Electric Boats that will enthrall you, a 15 passenger PlayCraft pontoon boat, a Ranger bass boat and two Supra Launch water ski/wakeboard boats. The Chalet Club is also an official Connelly Test Center with the latest F1 slaloms and CWB wakeboards available for you to ride. Our lakefront property includes a recreation house, docks to fish or swim from, a beach, a terrace and boathouse.
